So which is true? The Nigerian government ceased his body and prompt that it is going to be mandatory burial by them or that there is no money to bury Ojukwu because no other eastern governor is coming forth with money.

So many stories written about this, which one we go believe

Na wa for the Yoruba bigot on here

Back up it. Kindly tell us all this Igbo leaders begging SW for help and money.
List them one by one. List the Igbo leaders behind it, list the Yoruba leaders they asked for money and the state this yoruba leaders govern. Abeg, don't force unaselves on people that does not want your help. olodo.

They asked Fashola, one yoruba, to provide security and contribute a tiny bit on the Ikemba Day that was scheduled for Igbo's in Lagos.
Isn't it his job to safe guard people living within his city?
The money bit, he claimed he'll contribute but we aren't even sure if he did.
The only other contribution by him was pledging to provide transport for foreign dignitaries from lagos to enugu. Nobody asked him to do that either, na him volunteer to do that

Don't add salt in an already salted food especially when that salted food is online for everyone to see.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Friday hosted the National Funeral Committee of the Late Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, pledging the support of the state government to the committee to ensure a befitting burial for the former military governor of the defunct Eastern Region.
Late Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, who died in a London hospital in the early hours of Saturday, November 26, 2011, will be buried on February 30 after a 40 day funeral ceremony which will be held in various parts of the country including Lagos, Kano and Enugu between February 14 and 29, 2012.
Addressing members of the Committee led by its Deputy Chairman, Senator Uche Chukwumeruje, Fashola said his administration would be more than glad to do all that would guarantee a befitting burial for the late Ojukwu including providing venue and adequate security for the Ikemba Day scheduled to take place in Lagos on February 24, 2012.
The governor, who said the Late Ikemba Nnewi was as much a Lagosian as he was a Nigerian, also pledged to handle directly from his office the logistic challenges of transfer flights from Lagos to Enugu of foreign dignitaries for the final funeral event of the deceased on February 29, 2012.
Noting that he had earlier received official communication from the committee requesting him to send in a tribute, Governor Fashola promised that the activity would be coordinated directly from his office for adequate and effective execution, assuring that his team would be able to cope as long as it gets “reasonably sufficient notice on the arrival and departure times as well as names of guests”.

Islam is beautiful!

Late Umar Musa 'Yar'adua, former president was buried with plain clothes worth less than N1000.

Late Ojukwu, wannabe president is drawing a debt of N500m for his burial.

God is Great! He never meant to force hardship on us, but spending N500m on a dead person is outrightly super insane.

I can build and maintain for 5 good years a world class state of the art University with N500m, with theater hall, 15 lecture halls, 30 offices, laboratories, and even sports center equiped with all amenities. But, this N500m is going to a dead person. undecided
Re: Ojukwu's Burial Runs Into Trouble by Osiris211: 5:47am On Feb 20, 2012

Cant even give him a befitting burial? Thesame way they left Peter Obi with huge medical bills after openly making pledges.

Re: Ojukwu's Burial Runs Into Trouble by DuduNegro: 5:55am On Feb 20, 2012
Auwal,

Yaradua was buried within few hours from getting back to Nigerian soil. It has been three or more months since Ojukwu died. He is rotting already, the embalming makeup and chemicals cost a lot. . . . you have to spend a lot to keep maggots out.

Why South East Governors Refuse To Fund Ojukwu’s Burial

The embarrassing intrigues surrounding the funeral arraignments of the leader of the modern Igbo society and Nigerian strong man, Chief Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, Ezeigbo Gburugburu which had neatly been tucked away underneath a veil has begun to uncover itself into the public arena.

This is as 247ureports.com has gathered information through principal sources within the involved South East governors indicating reasons the south east governors [except Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi] changed their minds over the financial pledges made to the Ojukwu Burial Committee towards the funeral arraignments. The four South East governors, comprising of Gov Rochas Okorocha, Gov Sullivan Chime, Gov Theodore Orji and Gov Martin Eechi were reported to have backed away owing to financial distrust on the burial committee.

Available information indicates the five south east governors had earlier sat with the funeral planning committee and agreed to finance the entire burial cost. The preliminary budget was pegged at a little above N500million. To this, each governor made their pledges which covered the preliminary budget. This was in late December of 2011.

However the troubles began in early January of 2012 as the members of the burial committee began to jostle for the expected payout from the pledges. It began with the tussle over who to be named the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretary of the committee. The Imo State Governor was given the slot to chose a Chairman, the Enugu State governor was given the slot to chose a deputy Chairman and the Anambra State governor given the slot of Secretary. The Imo Governor chose Emmanuel Iwuanyawu for the post of Chairman, Enugu Governor chose Jim Nwobodo for the post of deputy Chairman while Anambra Governor chose Sen Ben Obi for the post of Secretary.

Immediately following the selections for the three positions, one of the sons of the late Ezeigbo Gburugburu [Emeka Ojukwu Jnr.] in tandem with one of the committee members [Chief A. B. C. Nwosu] raised alarms against the persons selected for the position of Chairman and deputy Chairman. The alarms were followed by protests letters to several media houses – calling for the choices of Iwuanyawu and Nwobodo to be reversed.

The move by the junior Ojukwu and A.B.C. Nwosu caught the South East governor by surprise and they were not happy with the manner they exposed the matter to the media. Nonetheless, the Imo Governor changed his choice from Iwuanyawu to Chief Oputa and Gov Chime changed his from Nwobodo to Onoh.

And with the change of the Chairman and deputy chairman, the planning of the funeral took a new and sustained downturn for the worse. The governors of Imo and Enugu shruck away from their earlier pledges – and the governors of Abia and Ebonyi followed also shruck away from their pledges – leaving the governor of Anambra State who told the funeral committee to continue with the planning of the funeral arraignment – and to consider a downward revision of the budget from N500million to N150million. Some of the planned activities were cancelled as a result.

Independent inquiry by 247ureports.com indicates the committee found themselves forced to carry out a fined tuned audit of the planned expenses. This is because it was discovered that there appeared more reasons why the governors decided to pullout of the planned funeral arrangement. It was gathered that the committee members had engaged in practices that irked the governors into believing that the pledged funds will be looted. Chief A. B. C. Nwosu was reportedly cornering monies meant for the burial for private use. The nuclei family of Ezeigbo Gburugburu through Emeka Ojukwu submitted a bill for drinks and entertainment for N65million. The request was turned down. Other similar bills/requests for payment are abound.

Further inquiry uncovered a chilling aspect of the burial arrangement – revealing that no indigenes of Nnewi have contributed money towards the burial - neither have the Ojukwu’s contributed money towards the burial.

Rather, the Ojukwu’s were recently handed N10million cash courtesy of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Akpabio -who contributed N10million towards the burial – when  the committee came to solicit for monetary contribution. The money [N10million] was handed over to the Ojukwu’s for “pocket money” – to be used for private matters and not for the burial. The State government of Anambra has on its part undertaken the responsibility of refurbishing the home of Ezeigbo Gburubguru in Nnewi for the estimated sum of N18million. This, according to sources close to the Anambra State government, will enable for the home to “look presentable” to the general public.

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha who had pulled out of the committee arrangement has since proceeded to hold a separate burial arraignment in Imo State – which the Imo state government will fund.

In all, there appear a free for all attitude on the part of the burial committee members. It is feared that in the quest to divert the monies meant for the burial of Ezeigbo Gburugburu, the rightful honor due to the leader of the modern Igbo society will suffer an irreversible injustice. Perhaps as the day of the burial nears, a natural solution will emerge to help avert a pending embarrassment.

You people are just too hopelessly shameless when to comes to money.

lol @ 65 million for drinks,

Shey na Dom Pérignon una won take do faaji or na ojuku una won bury,

I dob't believe the authenticity of this story and even if it were true, it was bound to happen because different selfish groups will see this an an opportunity to sell themselves. I think the money should have been given to Ojukwu's family to organize the burial. When you bring politicians into this kind of thing, there's bound to be problems.

Okay, let me say this now because I think it is time.

That story is as FAKE as they come.

Here in the US when we wanted to organize a funeral event for Ojukwu, there was a HUGE fracas because my (Nnewi) towns people started organizing it without involving anyone. When I heared about it, I basically warned them to back off. Before anyone knew what happened, other Igbo and Eastern groups threw a HUGE fit about it, and warned us Nnewi folks to back off. The event was eventually organized and funded by ALL Eastern Nigerian groups (and even some SWers).
Fact is that Ojukwu is HUGE. That is why no one can reduce his burial to Nnewi affair.
So, tell that liar reporter that he has made a fool of his website. cool

When it was spontaneously announced that Ojukwu's burial has been upgraded and NA will give him military honor burial. . . we all wondered how they came about that sudden change in direction.  There was a missing dot!

This report is that missing dot and if you connect it with the before and after of the decision, it fits very well in place.  This is no fake story, it's authentic.

Its our business because we are Nigerians.  MASSOB and all agitators of a Biafran sovereignty should be banned from the ceremonies.  Let me warn you, NA is going to be there in their full ceremonial uniform.  It will be an unpatriotic act and a disgrace for MASSOB and Biafran veterans to be at the same venue in their Biafran uniform and flags.  So tell all your Biafran soldiers if they dont want to be arrested and locked up not to wear their uniform or flag in presence of those NA guys.  Nigeria pardoned Ojukwu, not Biafra. . . so this occasion is about Nigeria. You hear me?  No yeye Biafran stuffs.
