This is probably in the same series of signings that never ever come to fruition. Didn't Medvedev come to visit sometime in '07 to establish Nigaz? Anyone seen a Nigaz office, website or bloody signpost anywhere??

Nigerian leaders are desperately wicked, greedy and downright foolish. The Nigerian population which we all are members of have a majority that has been beaten down for so long that it has reduced us to circus animals.

This circus will continue until perhaps our own 'snowball' appears undecided

Our Government definitely has a degree at this point in signing MOUs . . . . but not much in the way of substance afterwards. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

^^ Just in case you didn't notice, Nigeria already has an Atomic Power Agency with an active Director General and what the President just commissioned is a "N650 million worth Nuclear Researchers’ Hostel". Nigeria was the first country visited by the current IAEA president and with good reason.

ekt_bear: Russia is good at certain things. But if you want to do nuclear power, partner with someone who has a track record of SAFETY.

France might be a good choice.

Not somebody who almost wiped out his entire country due to mistakes (Russia)

Are u sure u know what you're talking about? Like seriously, do you have any idea?

This thread just sums up †нє short sightedness of nigerians and how succesive govts have managed to loot our treasury blind with fragrant impunity, how can any educated person suggest that nigeria in its current situation should dabble into nuclear generation when even †нє united kingdom have serious reservations about it, there has been countless deliberations about safety due to d volatile nature of nuclear energy and nigeria as we know it can't survive mere natural disasters †нє likes of hurricane katrina in new orleans that would stretch †нє emergency services of †нє most developed countries to its limits, meanwhile people actually believe that involving russia makes its ok ansd acceptable to put nigerian lives at risk and in †нє hands of †нє russians because they have managed to succesfully implement and maintain a nuclear generating programme in their country? Seriously nigerians need to sit back and think about this nuclear issue very well because no nation that cares about †нє welfare of its people ignores †нє risks associated with nuclear energy and delves into it when they have a non existent emergency service, let's think about what our emergency protocols are in a situation where †нє worst happens like what happened in japan, can †нє govt succesfully evacuate people from their homes in time and provide alternative accomodation? Or are we so inept that we can't take reference from †нє russian chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986, that entire region was evacuated since then and is still inabitable till date.
Anyway my bottom line is that developed countries have managed to provide electricity to their citizens for many decades without using nuclear power so we ought to start from there and @ least walk before we attempt to fly. Thats just my opinion, and i should add that abuja occupants and anyone around †нє proposed nuclear plants should protest against this for †нє sake of their childrens lives incase there's a leak which is inevitable.

nanizle: The day NIGERIA starts operating a nuclear power plant is the day I'll relocate to another country. I very strongly believe that NIGERIA cannot maintain a nuclear power plant.

NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY IS NOT CHILD'S PLAY!!!!!

WE ARE NOT READY FOR IT!!!

tpia@:

We are one of the richest countries in Africa yet nothing works, we do not have good roads or electricity while majority of the countries in Africa do not even have that problem, our Govt can not succesfully manage anything from sports infrastructure to media or communications and all the public services can best be described as a den of thieves, although to an extent i can understand why nigerians think things are ok and we arent doing too bad because they have not had the opportunity to live outside nigeria and compare the nigerian way of life with the way things are meant to work under a normal functioning system, which is why the ones most angered by the excesses of the nigerian govt most times is those of us that live outside nigeria in europe and america etc
The problem with nigeria is people are actually buying the deception that we are actually developing when in essence we lack the basic framework for that to happen, we are simply a consumer based set of people with a very narrow mind scope which again has to do with the govt imposed poverty which should never have been, due to the vast amount of resources available in Nigeria so we end up with a large majority of nigerians that lack innovation as a direct result of being ruled by succesive govts who lack vision for its people. How do you explain a country that does not have a fully functioning R & D department with absolutely no plan for the brightest minds in our country, instead we wait for the U S or any other forward thinking country in the west to snatch them away with impuity on various scholarship programmes and harness their knowledge for the good of their country, and those are the ones that even have the opportunity to get some level of education before being discovered, so just imagine how many inventions we could have had if we cherished our top scholars and fought to keep them while fully funding whatever research they needed, (iam sorry i had to deviate a little) but my point is simply that nigeria has unprecedented issues and we can best be described as an infant with no worries about the future at all because all the developed countries of the world are all about planning, preparing and building their cities and economies for the future so when you talk about nuclear power, we ought to leave such a volatile subject in the hands of the people that can and are equipped enough to handle it, the only problem is that even those countries are running away from nuclear as only 3 days ago the residents of japan took to the streets to protest against nuclear power due to the fukushima nuclear plant disaster.
My advise to the nigerians in support of this nuclear endeavour is to do some reading up about past nuclear accidents and maybe that would fine tune your thinking.
