Literature / A Concept To Market Our Creativity by andrewdg(m): 4:35pm On Dec 01, 2009
I am Andrew Simon, a screenwriter. Here in nairaland, we have so many talented people in different fields of creativity; but not many are known names and i wonder why.

In trying to know why, i discovered some like-able reasons; the strongest which is that we are not yet shown. since the name of the game is show business, one needs to be shown to be in business.

I have come up with a concept. Since we all need an entry to the market and a point to start from, lets forge ahead together. I have written a wonderful soap opera to be shot. I drop my script for free and get others to work for free too in order to bring it to the screen. The team is growing strong as we already have an editor, some cinematographers and few actors.

if u are interested in being part of our crew in order to market yourself in the areas of acting, screenwriting, continuity, directing and others; send an email to asproduction2009@yahoo.com, stipulating your interest.

remember, when you are shown, you will be known and thereafter you can be contacted for the next big job!

TV/Movies / A Proposed Competition For Nairalanders by andrewdg(m): 1:11pm On May 14, 2008
Since everyone thinks his job is off the hook, lets have a friendly competition aimed at evaluating one's self, to know exactlly how good he or she is. We do it like this; all interested movie writer should post anything that best explains his skill, synopsis or scripted scenes, whatever your heart could carry. After this, every one votes his best, just like 'big brother'.
Seun try to elaborate the idea, it could be fun and educative to us all. Lets help ourselves!

Religion / Re: Can Prayers Change Nigeria? by andrewdg(m): 3:16pm On Apr 21, 2008
A woman complained to her doctor of being tired of the exercise given to her to reduce her weight; she said she is not seeing any improvement, and that she always regain the weight she had lost after some time. When the doctor calculated all the weight she has lost on different occassions and plus it to her present weight, she realized how extremely fat she would have been, and went back to exercise with vigor.
If not for prayers, only God knows what this country would have become. Nigeria needs prayer! but also, the citizens needs to change their towards this great nation. stop being pessimistic, many countries have had their bad days; including USA(the great depression). Keep praying and working.
TV/Movies / Re: How Do Nigerian Movies Make Money? by andrewdg(m): 1:08pm On Apr 16, 2008
Seun i would try to answer your questions, one after the other.

1. The first release is usually by the marketer of the said movie. Immediately after that pirate may come in.

2. The exporting of the film to yankee is done the smartest; the marketers or the bootleggers. When the movie is out in nigeria, they have an acess to the job and that leads them to exporting it to various other countries. To counter them, you need to conclude arrangements in the major countries you want your movies to go, before ever luanching it out in nigeria. keep the original copy till you are set for general release. I would also want you to know that that is what is obtainable in the global market: there are pirates everywhere!

3. Considering the amount of movies that come out everyday and its effect on consumers, the case is almost completely turned. There is a huge developement in the industry, the marketers are now on strike over these issues:
a. part 3 and 4 should be scrapped.
b. each producer should have just one slot a year, to make a film.
c. the case of having a single disc as one film.
d. excessive adverts.
The arguements have not been easy but it is leading to a breakthrough into professional filmmaking.

4. Tracing the financial success of your movie depends on your calculated format of doing that and also, it depends on the strategy of distribution you adopt; there are many.

5. Oprah Winfrey says the only way to deal with racism is through excellence. Drawing from that, making your movie stand out, you have to make an outstanding movie. Secondly, if you can think very well, you will come up with the perfect distribution network. In other words, you have to know what it takes to make a hit movie and then, research on a medium to sell it. Think hard!

6. Casts alone does not make a hit movie, point of correction! My friend travelled all the way to liberia to shoot his epic movie, the editing is on now. He used their stars and and very few nigerian stars. How many stars are there in 'passion of christ'? Its the uniqueness of the story and the brilliant shooting, coupled with the perfect marketing strategy that made it blow.
If you can think well and have strong hands and haeds as crew, $50000 is enough. Get a story that stands out on its own, well screenplayed and then a thorough shooting and editing. When this is achieved, classy adverts begin(not the noisy scrab). Travel to the countries you have in mind or find a way of affiliating with their distribution company in contract. You can also try the theatres before release is done. And of course, this depends on the output( the film)- Kinsley Ogoro does it.You can also do some internet marketing and promotion on it; that is your field.

There are many ways i could be of help to you but the surest aspect is giving you a superb story and screenplay that will begin the process of making a hit movie.

Call me on phone so we can talk on it more; 07034819433- Andrew Simon.

TV/Movies / Re: What Can Be Done To Improve Nigerian Movies? by andrewdg(m): 1:40pm On Jan 10, 2008
it pains me that people dont semm to understand that the problem is the script. lets face it; nigerians cant make a film like titanic or troy but what about a film like last don? lets face the writers the have writing prowess to make films like that. low budget story with sense will do much. good directors too. i am a writer with this quality, try me
TV/Movies / Re: 80% Of Nollywood Films Are Wack by andrewdg(m): 9:12pm On Sep 14, 2007
aside from the wack editing wat baffles me the more is that they have to stretch each scene to enable them get a part 2 movie. why cant they contract a writer for a 2 part job than turning a short story into a part 1,2,3 movie. we need to think straight
TV/Movies / Re: 80% Of Nollywood Films Are Wack by andrewdg(m): 8:10pm On Sep 13, 2007
comparing the woods is wrong but what nigerian film makers should understand is that we have weakness in production cost. it takes millions in dollars to make a film like titanic but it may cost less producing 'the pursiut of happiness.' since we cant spend money on stunts and effect, why cant we focus on dramma with superb story and plotting? our movie makers mistake d priorities in making a good film. they steal story here and there and try to make a miracle out of it. a good script is the bedrock of a good film.
TV/Movies / 80% Of Nollywood Films Are Wack by andrewdg(m): 6:38pm On Sep 11, 2007
every one is discovering actors and artists through reality shows and compititions but we are leaving the fact that we need to discover exceptional movie writers that will make our nollywood movies watchable. 80% of nollywood films are wack. i am a good writer but none of my brother is a marketer and that bars u in nollywood.

Invest In A Movie That Would Change The Face Of Our Movie Industry

i have a movie that i would like to invite investors to. I am a writer and this movie would blow the mind of nigerians. People would wonder what jobs i have done but the answer is none. This is as a result of the nature of our industry, nobody would buy a script from a none relative and their lack of professionalism makes me afraid of having a debut with them. If you have interest in investing in the production and general marketing of the movie, please indicate.
