Health / Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by babestell(f): 11:30am On Aug 28
My sister there is poverty in the land. Folks are doing their best to manage. That her descision is probably driven by cost as opposed to the drug working better.

Tover:
Good day everyone... I am curious, I saw a mother giving her 10-month-old baby a paracetamol tablet, which was cut in half though. I challenged her, saying it's too much for the baby, but her reply was, 'When you start having your own child, you will understand.' I'm curious; I hope the drug isn't too powerful for the 10-month-old baby."

My condolences on your experience. Its a terrible experience for anyone to go through. I thank God you and the family are in a better place now

Acidosis:

Congratulations to you and your family. I can’t imagine what you’ve been through! But, I have a few thoughts about your experience at the government hospital.

The same frustrating and bureaucratic system you mentioned is the reason I still can’t forgive myself for my wife’s death at a government (teaching) hospital. My wife and I initially started at a private hospital, where everything was going smoothly until an issue arose, and we had to switch hospitals (that’s a story for another day).

While we were still at the private hospital, we went through a few episodes of threatened miscarriages, intense vomiting (no food stays in her stomach for weeks), and bleeding at different times, yet her pregnancy remained intact. Her experience was tough, and we had to undergo a cervical cerclage at 16 weeks, which was successful at the private hospital.

Because of "that issue," we had to move to a government hospital at 24+ weeks, based on her consultant’s advice and other people's recommendations. On the day she was to deliver, I was, as usual, given a prescription to get Vitamin K1. I searched the entire hospital (which has more than 10 pharmacies), but it was nowhere to be found. I then went to some of the largest private pharmacies in Ikeja, Opebi/Allen, and Ogba (Alpha Pharmacy, Boluke, Healthplus, etc.), but still couldn’t find it. By the time I returned to the hospital, about 2-3 hours later, my wife had already delivered our babies. One of the babies came out pale and needed a blood transfusion. Meanwhile, my wife was still in pain and hadn’t recovered. But thankfully, the husband of a friend my wife made at the ward was able to help with blood test and all. Like my wife, his wife was pregnant and also admitted.

Anyone who has used a government hospital knows that they won’t give a patient even basic medication like paracetamol unless someone is there to pay and get the drug. Throughout the time my wife was admitted to the government hospital, every blood test required me to go get the collection bottle from one location, find a nurse to draw her blood, take the sample to another location, and then return hours or a day later to get the results and bring them to the doctor. I did this every day for a week—I suffered ehn! This was something we never experienced at the private hospital; all we had to do was pay. I hustled for every single thing myself: the blood we needed in case of an emergency after the C-section was gotten from another private blood bank, the RhoGAM injection she was to take after delivery 'cos of her (-) Rhesus factor, and more. It was a horrible experience.

I can’t write out everything here, but one thing is certain: some of the people who advised us to use a government hospital for the "best care" later admitted that "private hospitals are better." The only advice I can give anyone is to follow their heart.

My wife had already delivered our babies before 4 p.m., but they kept her in bed over 5 hours later until she died. During my research, I later learned that the global standard for women who undergo C-sections is to get them moving/walking as soon as possible to prevent blood clots. Want to know how my wife died, according to the hospital? Pulmonary embolism (a blood clot). And guess what happened to the other man’s wife, the friend my wife made? She died two days later in the same hospital.

I’m sharing this here because my wife was a devoted follower of this thread.

Another thing I’ll point out: doctors in both private and government hospitals are often no different. Many of them work in private practice and are rarely available to check on their patients' progress. The consultant who attended to my wife throughout our stay at the private hospital was the same person who performed her C-section. This same doctor works in four additional private hospitals. So, what they do is deliver your baby and then leave. Maybe that’s standard medical practice, I wouldn’t know. However, one thing I’m sure of is that my experience wouldn’t have been as bad in a proper private hospital. A private hospital also wouldn’t have abandoned us the way they did my family. Two nurses who were friends with my wife (she was extremely likable, and everyone loved her during her stay) called to check on us and couldn't hold back the tears. One even laid heavy curses on the doctors cos she knows how they operate. But there was no follow-up regarding the babies’ health and progress. Dem no send anybody papa. Well, I have since moved my family elsewhere. Lessons have been learned in the most painful and devastating way.

Sorry for the long post, and congratulations once again to you and your family.

Just saw this and it reminded me of this forum. It’s good to be truthful about our intentions and have enough money to cover the cost of birth. This lady was turned back at Detroit Airport.

My own bill from Pediatrix is $5k. I don’t know what to do. Nobody said anything about these hidden bill from them
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by babestell(f): 11:51am On Dec 12, 2023
I had this same experience when using Memorial hermann. In fact their own is that you cannot bring in another pediatrician while in the hospital. My hidden bills came up to $2850. I wan mad. we finally negotiated a discount of 10%.

Unfortunately you will have to pay as it is a hospital policy. Your doctor should have informed you about it. The pediatrix issue has been on for a while and even the american moms are comlaining. The Drs literally do nothing and they charge $700 ish per child visit.

Nnekkyneks:

Hmmmm I just came to share my predicament with pediarix Medics. I uses west houston medical center DrZi and Dr Chamkur. I never knew Pediatrix offered a service other than hearing test, they asked me if I wanted the test done and no. Apparently their PD attended to me so did DR Chamkur. No one asked my consent from Pediatox medics so I had a rude shock when I got a bill for $760 after I had engaged Dr Chamkur and paid him $500 and subsequent hospital visit of $250. Initially we didn't where d bill was coming from till Dr Zi investigated and found out it's a double bill for the same service. Now no one wants to back down.I called Pediarix medics they asked me to send a mail which I did 3weeks agp. But this week they sent another reminder 4 d outstanding bill. Infact I just got off the phone with Dr Chamkur and he said I shud not pay but show them the zero balance he gave me. Pls when u deliver specify u already hv a PD o if not u may hv double bill. I don't know howto get out of this mess.
Romance / Re: In Defense Of Polygamy, And How It Benefits Women The Most by babestell(f): 6:26pm On Aug 08, 2023
Well written article.

My personal experience is that most children from polygamous homes actively seek not to recreate such in their own homes. They tend to be the ones most likely to end up as baby mamas or dyfunctional husbands

Also my experience is that Polygamy doesnt reduce promiscuity in men but it increase promiscuity in women especially from wives who do not feel satisfied.

To each their own. My own is that of you want to be polygamous be upfront about it and marry a woman who agrees to it. its dishonest when one partner gets up in the middle of the day and decides they want to be polygamous after commiting to a monogamous relatonshiip.

I travel at 35 weeks. Never had an issue with Delta or Air France. But it depends on your body.

Pls check pg 410, i dropped my own bill breakdown from Memorial hermann there. My own advice is that you hold plenty money. they have many hidden charges that the folks at the front desk don't know about

Good morning , Happy Eid Al Fitr!!

Please who has the current bill for Memorial Hermann Houston TX and their direct contact email. DR LA has now moved from WHMC to Memorial Hermann though his office has sent the proposed bill for Memorial Hermann but i want to try and re-confirm cz i have been hearing they have increased prices.

Also what's the latest time an expectant mother can fly international (is 34-36 weeks too late?)

I didn't get my baby passport before I left. I travelled with Emergency Travel Certificate. However make sure you apply and do the biometrics for the passport before you leave, if you can get an appointment at an agency, pls do so. its same day there. A bit expensive but its better to hold it in hand.

You cannot get a first time passport in Nigeria

I have been in the flight with someone who was carrying a 3 week old.

Thank you babestell,

How many weeks was your 1st baby when you returned to Nigeria for the remaining Vaccinations. I'm thinking of doing same at 6/7 weeks. Just wondering what the effect would be

I used sunrise pediatrics and the day we took all that plenty vaccine, my total cost (Dr visit + vaccine) was around $250. (TdaP, IPV (Polio), Rotavirus, HiB and Pneumococcal)

it also depends on your Dr. The cost for daily visit is different from cost of vaccines. my first child only took the one at birth and then we started vaccinations when we returned to Naija at 3 months.

Toritse321:
Good day all.

Please for those of you who have had your babies in the US, did you vaccinate your newborns? If yes, what vaccinations did you take and what were the costs?

Thank you

Hi everyone
Just a follow up on drop box. It's not so bad as some people think it is. Infact if your appoint is 8am and u get there 7:30,u would have submitted by 7:40am and woild be on your way out. And it's very very organised, thank God the u.s embassy did that on their own cos if it was DHL or it was outsourced,it would be very very crowdy
Just 4 things needed, your passport containing your old visa, not less than 2yrs expired or 3 months to expiry, your confirmation page that has your appointment date and time, your DS 160,your bank receipt of payment and finally 1 recent passport photograph (U.S visa standard).
Heard that it's not 2month per say, that some are already getting their passport with visa back. You dont need any document to support. The crowd for drop box is way more than normal interview o.
As at 7:30am yesterday there was no queue for normal interview,it was so free that only 6 people came and walk inside in 3mins and u can actually submit for 1 person.
Goodluck to all the drop box renewal

Hello House, time to share my story

I got my visa early last year before the who0le issue with dates started. I wasn’t pregnant then but we thank God for his gifts.
I used Memorial Hermann and Dr Z. My cost breakdown is below

Dr Z (include ultrasound): $2550
Memorial Hermann sugarland; $3969
Anesthesia: $2000
Sunrise Pediatrics: $500
Hospital Labs: $300

The hospital labs is not a round figure as above, I rounded it up0. When we got home we received an additional bill from the hospital. Apparently the hosp0ital only allows their own p0ediatrics team attend to baby after birth. Instead of allowing the external child pediatrician attend. They charge the p0arents for the service and boy its not cheap. My bill when sent was

Child Initial Birth: $750
Circumcision: $821
Baby discharge examination: $535

So pls if you are using this hospital, put all these in plan. Covid has dealt with the system so even all those freebies we used to get from hospitals are no longer available. They claim this was in response to Covid .
I applied for baby passport last week of November. Even paid for express. Unfortunately, the passport is not out. We travelled with ETC, which my husband helped process.

I did my covid test at CVS and that’s what I used to travel.

Thanks to everyone who shared their journey.

PS Dr Z is Nigerian...I know there was time people were arguing over it here.

that said there was a very long queue and only 2 officers on duty so I guess thats why he didnt stress me much

I used VOA 4 years ago and there was no issue. I.paid with cash at the airport. Heard years down the line, there were issues though. But I called the immigration officer who helped me then, and he said the issue has been addressed, and now you won't need to pay at the airport cos the officer would have made the payment for you while doing the processing.

I know someone who travelled with VOA few months back, so I think the issue has been sorted now
