Politics / Re: Why Do Yoruba And Igbo Love Marrying Themselves by cjrane: 11:56pm On Jul 02
gidgiddy:

Igbos and Yoruba love marrying themselves? This is news since it's a rare thing to see a Yoruba woman in Igbo land

Rarely have I seen an Igbo man marrying an Yoruba woman, and the Yorubas who marry Igbo women are those they met in Yoruba land, and have been 'accultured' to Yorubas

In reality, most Igbos don't know much about Yoruba culture, and most Yorubas don't know much about Igbo culture

However, it is important to note that Yorubas and Igbos have been age-long political enemies, and that's why both tribes have no business being in one country together

You are so pathetic!
Emeka Anyaoku’s wife is likely a Cameroonian woman! I don’t even want to mention young Igbo men like Peter Okoye that at a time, it seemed they were competing among themselves. Go to your own village now and ask the tribe of any non Igbo woman. She is likely to be Yoruba, Igala, Idoma, Erik , Ibibio or Edo. A few are Hausa or from other countries but not as numerous as these tribes mentioned.

Blind Hate is a mental sickness. You can’t just hate a woman that loves you merely because she is Yoruba or Igbo.

Very true but I blame the governor's. They politicize the ministry of works since it is responsible for the bulk of capital spending. They push projects through without feasibility, environmental assessment and proper design. They focus on short quick wins instead of long term large scale integrated infrastructure that outlasts them.

Ministry of works that for last three years cannot fix the high traffic city road that leads to their ministry but are celebrating building low traffic street roads in anawbia.

Incompetence has serious consequences.

I don't think the Ministry of Works was politicized; I believe we had governors who never ensured that workers did the jobs they were paid for. A competent governor would have questioned why the state government always had to hire road construction companies for even minor repairs or to merely open blocked gutters while there are people receiving salaries monthly as "Ministry of Works staff". The Commissioner of Works should be called out for dereliction of duty when these things are going wrong and could be quickly fixed by palliative measures. They will mark the bad portions and go to sleep indefinitely. It will always take them forever to react meaningfully to an emergency. Until the emergency becomes too late and beyond their capacity to handle.

Watch the video below to see how the roads in Onitsha are rapidly deteriorating due to new potholes after the rains. These are potholes that could be quickly fixed now before they will require billions of naira to reconstruct the entire road. Do we need journalists to cry out before the state Ministry of Works mobilizes their team to open the gutters and perform patchwork? Of course, they will do nothing but demand their salaries. Meanwhile, the government will have to hire a road construction company to fix the roads or open the gutters.

This is why I have very little sympathy for Nigerian civil servants when they are owed salaries. Most of them are guilty of dereliction of duty and why nothing works in the society.

Another good thing about the current Anambra State Government is that all Agencies, ministries, contracts are working... No ghosting.
Even Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ARMA...has never been this proactive.

One reason that I advocated for the scrapping of state ministry of works was because they neither patched the roads, streets or even small gutters. Every small repair on any street or gutter had to be a big contract to construction companies and at huge cost to the state . So the question about what the hundreds of salaried workers in the state ministry of works did was always a recurring anti-corruption question.

The state ministry of works will watch a tiny pothole develop and will not patch it until the entire road collapses and the state is compelled to award a total reconstruction to a construction company! So what is their work if they cannot even patch a very small pothole?

I’m so glad to see the state ministry of works patching something. No matter how small. At least it justifies the huge salaries budgeted every year for workers emoluments in the state ministry of works.

Governor Hope Uzodinma and other self-serving politicians from Orlu LGA are pushing the "Orlu State" agenda for their own gain.

Their scheme aims to create a personal fiefdom to plunder and establish themselves as warlords. The most outrageous part is their plan to forcibly annex huge parts of Anambra State (Ihiala, Uga, Amaeshi, Umuchu, Achina, Oneh, Nkpologwu, Uli, Akpo, Azia, Umunze, Ihembosi, Okija, Lilu, Nnewi South LGA communities Ukpor, Ebenator, Ezinifite, Unubi, Ekwulumili, etc) into their corrupt agenda. This move would marginalize these communities and permanently brand them as "Ndi-Anambra of Orlu State."

It's a blatant power grab with no regard for the people's will or welfare. This madness must be stopped!

Anioma community in Abuja passes vote of confidence in Ned Nwoko
Guardian NigeriaJun 16, 2024 3:52 AM

Indigenes of Anioma resident in Abuja have passed a vote of confidence in Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for outstanding representation at the National Assembly.
This was the highlight of an interactive session with Senator Nwoko representing Delta North senatorial district, held at the weekend in Abuja.

The event, attracted over a thousand Anioma sons and daughters, including serving and retired civil servants, as well as Anioma President Generals based in Federal capital territory
In a address,Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude for the indigenes’ support and said their presence signified a positive step towards realizing his vision for the people of Anioma.

The lawmaker said he convened the interactive session to unite all Anioma people in Abuja and its environs under one umbrella and inform them about his duties in the Senate and his responsibilities to them as their Senator.

He noted that it was also aimed to encourage them to share information about budget placements,capacity-building initiatives, job opportunities, training programs, and career development within established agencies and ministries,to enable him facilitate access to opportunities for Anioma constituents.

Senator Nwoko also renewed his call for the creation of Anioma state and stressed the importance over regional classifications.

“Whether Anioma is South-South or South-East should not be the focus. What’s most important to discuss is that Anioma is poised to become a highly significant and viable state. We already have six out of nine local government areas producing oil and gas. In addition, Anioma boasts numerous talented and important individuals. Despite current challenges, Emefiele will continue to be a prominent figure in Anioma. We also have people like Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia, and other notable personalities. We have all the talents we need to excel in all areas, be it sports or academics.

“The Ekwumekwu war exemplifies the strength and resilience of the Aniomas. Historically, we fought the Europeans to preserve our identity and autonomy. We are continuing the legacy of our forefathers, and I assure you that I am dedicated to this cause.

“You must know what we are doing in the National Assembly. You need to understand my duties and the services I owe you. Whether it’s unjust job termination, health issues, or community matters, you have someone in the Federal Government to attend to your needs and concerns,” Senator Nwoko said

Earlier, Chief Godfrey Odogwu, the President General of Asaba Development Union, Abuja branch, emphasised that the creation of Anioma state is long overdue.

Patrick Obi, Branch President of Ogwashi-Uku Development Association, leading the vote of confidence in Senator Ned Nwoko stated, “We have been assured that we have a Senator. Doors have never been this open for us.”

Notable Anioma dignitaries at the event included Dr. Anthony Achuzia, Deputy Comptroller General, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services; Onwubuya Henry Ngozika, Director, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs; Mrs. Meg Okpala, Assistant Controller General, Special Services; Chief Anthony Molokwu, Ogwuluzame of Asaba; Chief Mrs. Bridget Molokwu,Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Finance; Beatrice Eboka, Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service; and Mrs. Felicia Uzuakpundu, retired Director, Power Training Institute of Nigeria, among others.

All Igbo-speaking people, especially the Anioma, should be united in the same region as their Southeast kinsmen, just as efforts are made to bring all Yoruba-speaking people into the new Southwest region.

Labeling Delta Igbos as Yoruba-Igbos or Ijaw-Igbos is unjust, similar to how Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi are not called Fulani-Yorubas; the proposed new regions unfairly divide Igbo-speaking areas while cleverly consolidating Yoruba areas.

Anioma people, though not historically part of the Southeast, are still seen and treated as Igbos by Nigerians, as evidenced by their treatment during the Civil War. Denying Anioma's Igbo identity is ineffective and weakens our position; unity among all Igbo people is essential for collective recognition, and allowing people to be with their kinsmen. Similar to how Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi are being united with their kith and kin into the new Southwest region.

National Ranches Commission Establishment Bill Proposes Jail Term for Defaulters
advocate.ngJun 15, 2024 5:08 PM

The National Ranches Commission Establishment Bill, 2024, which has passed the second reading in the Senate, proposes a five-year jail term and a N50,000 fine for defaulters if it becomes an act of parliament.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Titus Tartenger Zam of the APC from Benue North West, aims to establish ranches for herders in their states of origin, replacing the current practice of open grazing to address the issue of herder/farmer clashes in Nigeria.

If enacted, the National Ranches Commission would be responsible for managing, preserving, and controlling ranches nationwide. The bill faced opposition from Northern senators but eventually passed the second reading on June 5, 2024.

Part 1V, Section 23 (1) of the bill states that anyone who contravenes any provisions of the Act or regulations made under it shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of N50,000 or imprisonment for five years, or both.

Part 1V, Section 22 (1-7) lists actions that would result in imprisonment, including alienating any rights affecting land constituted as National Ranches, making improvements without approval, encroaching on National Ranches, bush burning, hunting, using chemicals, felling trees, destroying the ecosystem, and allowing livestock to wander, roam, move, or graze outside National Ranches.

The bill is intended to regulate the management of ranches and promote a more sustainable and peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers in Nigeria.

The only good thing about this bill is that it allays the fears of local communities that foreign herders would be brought to forcefully takeover their land under the guise of “ranching” as it was previously plotted by Buhari and Miyeti Allah Ruga bill. Since ranches will be provided for pastoralists in their own states.

The idea of arming herders to take cattle from Niger Republic to Iseyin and kill all the farmers enroute has brought the current high cost of food and hunger in Nigeria. Not to mention that it ruined the hitherto peaceful relationship of farming communities with the pastoralists.

Anioma people and other Igbos have been reacting to an purported plan by an Afenifere chieftain to balkanize Igboland and expand Yorubaland in his restructuring proposal.

It is crucial for all Igbo-speaking people, especially the Anioma people, to be united in the same region as their kith and kin from the Southeast. Just as efforts are being made to bring all Yoruba-speaking people into the Southwest region, it is unfair and destabilizing to continue dividing Igbo-speaking areas into other regions.

Whether Delta Igbos belong to the Southeast, South-South, or Midwest, you cannot call them Yoruba-Igbos or Ijaw-Igbos. Just as you wouldn't call Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi Fulani-Yorubas. The proposed new regions cleverly include all Yoruba-speaking areas of Kogi and Kwara into the new "Western region" to prevent any Yoruba from remaining a minority in the North Central region and being marginalized. Meanwhile, Igbo-speaking areas are being divided into a new "Mid-West region" and a new Southern region, where they will always be minorities.

As an Anioma person, I fully agree with Senator Ned Nwoko. Though we have never been part of the Southeast, Nigerians still recognize our Igbo heritage and treat us as Igbos. During the civil war, even though we were part of Nigeria, we were the only "Nigerians" massacred by Nigerian troops for being Igbos. If Biafra existed today and we were in Nigerian territory, do you think we would be treated as anything but Igbos, even if we never declared war on Nigeria?

Denying Anioma's Igbo identity is futile. As a child, I vehemently denied being Igbo because my mother told us so. I have since realized the folly in denying who we are. It makes us unacceptable to both Nigerians and our Igbo kinsmen. This is precisely Nigeria's plot to weaken Anioma people. In 2024, I can tell you that the trick used on our people in the 1960s is now stale and futile. We must stand together as one Igbo people for our collective strength and identity.

Anioma is an acronyms for different subgroups, it comprises of multi-ethnic groups across the nine local government.
Anioma is not an ibo-only dominated areas, Iglala, yoruba, Ika, Isoko, and others who are not identified as ibos make up the whole of Anioma. More importantly, Asaba which happens to be the capital of Delta state is untouchable, in other words, the state capital can never be carved out to somewhere else. Also is the fact that areas of a region cannot be carved out into another region, it is politically impossible. therefore, Anioma cannot be submerged into SE.
If Anioma would clamour for a state, it would make it the 7th state in the SS which would be resisted by other SS stakeholders. The location of a 7th state is a tough debate in the SS region, in any event, there would be public debates across the region.
Finally, Senator Ned was only flying a kite on facebook, he has the floor of the senate to move the motion but he knows there would be pandemonium in the senate

Peppermaster:
ANIOMA STATE AND SOUTHEAST: MY REFLECTIONS ON HON NED NWOKO BILL - PART TWO

On a humorous yet instructive note, in the spirit of the celebratory June 12 Democracy Day, which presupposes symbolically, in a way, that democratic representation without consultation is a recipee for 'totalitarianism and anarchy'.

Did our representative at Abuja, the mover of this contentious bill for the creation of Anioma State to be lumped in the Southeast Region consult his fellow elected members Viz:

All the three Delta State House of Representatives who are Hon. Ngozi Okolie, Hon. Nwokolo, and Hon. Ezechi?

Did he consult all the Delta North House of Assembly elected members?

Did he consult all the elected Local Government Chairmen and Councillors including our registered corporate pressure groups, notable ruling and opposition partisan cum leaders ofb thoughts?

Where the traditional rulers, Community Development Associations, Union leaders, Youth Leaders, Women leaders, Anioma Pressure Groups and our people in the Diaspora consulted consulted?

This question arises because historically, when the likes of late Sen Nosike Ikpo led the region particularly, the Movement for the Creation of Anioma State during the Second Republic, from the historical documents available, he secured the concurrence and signatures of Anioma elected cum traditional rulers, leaders of thoughts, including the opposition party elements.

For instance, Sen Nosike Ikpo a true grassroot democrat and Anioma son consulted the UPN elected senator, leader of the NPN, former Premier of Midwest State, Rt. Hon Osadebey and many other opposition leaders before proceeding to secure the National Assembly approval.

In a similar fashion, movers of the Anioma State creation after the Ikpo leadership era did wide consultations.

May our Honourable Delta North elected members at the national, state, Local Government levels, their authentic Aides and media consultants, please speak up.

Where you consulted before this bill on Anioma state creation that intends to lump us in the Southeast Geo-political Region as proposed by our representative at the Senate?

Philip Elueme, Izu Anioma Patriot, writes from Abuja, the nation's state capital

June 12, 2024

Whether Delta Igbos are part of the South east, southsouth or mid west, you simply cannot call them Yoruba-igbos or Ijaw-igbos. The same way I cannot call Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi as Fulani-Yorubas. Infact, the new regions suggested cleverly made great efforts to incorporate ALL Yoruba speaking areas of Kogi and Kwara into the new “Western region “ to prevent any Yoruba from staying as a minority in the north central region and be marginalized as a minority group. While leaving Igbo speaking areas divided up into a new “Mid-west region” and a new southern region! Where we shall perpetually be a minority and in servitude.

Now to the issue at hand, as an Anioma person , I totally agree with Senator Ned Nwoko. Yes, we have never been part of the south east but it has not stopped any Nigerian from seeing our Igbo blood and treating us as Igbos. In fact, although we were part of Nigeria during the civil war, we were the only “Nigerians “ massacred by Nigerian troops in that war against “Igbos”. Do you think that if Biafra existed today and we were in Nigerian territory that we would be treated as anything but Igbos? Even if we never declared any war on Nigeria?

You are just wasting your time hyperventilating for Anioma land. As a child I was one of those that vehemently said I wasn’t Igbo because my mother told us so. I have since seen the folly in denying who you are. It makes you unacceptable to both Nigerians and your kinsmen the Igbos. Which is exactly Nigeria’s plot to weaken Anioma people. So again in 2024, I can tell you that the trick used on our people in 1960s is now stale and futile. Try something else.

Finally, I do not care where additional state is created or the name so long as South East is given an extra state.

You made a good point that an additional State in any location in the southeast would make for a balanced equitable federation. But you spoilt your argument by LYING that Buhari asked the south east to name any state he would create for them! Also that Ihiala is overlooked as a Fringe LGA in Anambra? Incase you don’t know, Dr Mbadinuju is from Ihiala LGA! Even Nnewi LGA has not had the types of benefits of Ihiala LGA. So they are also overlooked as fringe people too?

I would personally oppose regional government structure. Unless there is a clear provision to allow people to eventually move into which regions they would like to belong. For instance, the current South-south region is highly amorphous.

You cannot reasonably leave it as a region where some are deliberately made a minority and expect peace. There must be a clear way of moving into another region if both people agree on the boundary adjustment. Even in the present Delta state alone, I know the wahala we undergo just to keep the state peaceful and united. Talk more about adding Bayelsa and others to Delta state inside one entity.

Anyway, what will scatter Nigeria is not electoral malpractice or corruption. It is HUNGER that will eventually ignite the revolution that will scatter Nigeria. Unless the farmers are protected from the herdsmen to feel safe to farm and produce enough food in this country.

There is already a decision to use herdsmen as a weapon to starve the country. Otherwise, nothing explains why they will deliberately graze into corn and yam fields to use the cash-crops as grass instead of allowing the animals to eat grass

It's exciting that Gov. Peter Mbah is determined to make Enugu the top destination for international conferences. I hope he truly believes in this vision because our leaders sometimes doubt they can compete with venues abroad. His commitment could transform Enugu and show the world what the city has to offer.

Gov. Mbah must ensure he leaves no stone unturned in planting flowers and trees throughout the area. The ambiance created by proper landscaping is just as important as the buildings themselves. The ambiance should match that of international conference centers abroad located near 5-star hotels. The atmosphere created by abundant trees and flowers is crucial. Like the Abuja ICC, which isn't a spectacular building but feels world-class due to its beautiful landscaping, Enugu's international conference center can achieve the same standard. By focusing on creating a welcoming environment with lush greenery, Enugu can rival international conference centers and attract global attention.

I love those palm trees!
If they are serious about landscaping to make it a truly 5 stars venue, they will start the landscaping next month (June). So that the grass, trees and flowers are already planted in this rainy season to maximize their chances of survival.

Just like Soludo already planted the trees and flowers at the Awka Solution Fun City in this rainy season, even while construction is ongoing in the location.

By the way, Ex-Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should be prosecuted for stripping the building of the glass facade and marble before he left office. The building had high-quality glass and tiles on its wall throughout the 8 years of Gov. Sullivan Chime, then Ugwuanyi stripped the building of these expensive materials and perhaps sold them or used them for his own private buildings.

Thank God for this thread, we can still see what the building looked like in 2014 before Ugwuanyi stripped it down completely of every valuable material and glass.

At the commissioning of the University Road, Green Avenue & College Road in Aba

Yorubas in the southeast are generally very good and hardworking individuals. Their mentality and worldview is so close to how Igbos believe in the value of hardwork and progress. Thus, they are so different compared to Yorubas who have never left the southwest that have an entitlement mentality to life. All the negative comments in this thread does not apply to Yorubas in the southeast. They are the LEAST tribalistic people you can ever meet unlike those in especially Lagos.

Very nice new suburb of Onitsha city. I love how they restricted the buildings to just one story level in this part of the city.

If you cannot control the depreciation of the naira, then ensure that the current printing of more NAIRA NOTES is distributed to the PEOPLE and not to the politicians in government as its currently happening!

Next is to change from the bogus presidential to parliamentary system of government.

If they had changed to a parliamentary system that is way more efficient and cheaper, then it would make sense. If they had adopted the regional system that ensured rapid economic development of Nigeria, then it would have made sense.

But they wouldn’t adopt regional system nor parliamentary system because it would create prosperity for the masses and reduce corruption of politicians which they would never allow.

May the revolution see their end in power.

Is the recently-rejected anthem the reason they have been looting? Will the new anthem prevent them from being corrupt? So be it.

Why not also redesign the national flag?

There is NO NEED for redesign. Just adopt the flag given to us by the British. The same way we adopted their anthem.

All the heroes of Nigeria's independence struggles will be turning in their graves today. It is finally clear to those killed in the struggle for Nigeria's independence that they died for nothing. As their children are today begging the British to recolonize us. grin grin grin

This is beyond amazing!

I pray soludo dualize 3-3 - Aguleri road...construct flyover at Nkwelle junction by express... development within this area is massive

Hopefully, Soludo will see the great need for that road to be dualized as well as directly linking GRA Onitsha to the Anambra International airport via that road. A lot was discussed about that road during Obiano's era that i thought Obiano would use the opportunity to award the road. It will greatly improve the accessibility and viability of the Anambra airport. not to even mention the massive development of hotels and other infrastructure that will follow that strategic road.

The beautiful thing is that the "Airport Road to Nsugbe" is about 5.5KM, but it would make such a great difference in the development of the airport and the entire area.

Tinubu is the worst

He should be arrested after 2027

Why would you arrest Jagaban, when you haven’t arrested Buhari?

Nobody must touch Jagaban! Unlike Buhari that masked himself as a fake messiah, Jagaban told Nigerians exactly what he would do and didn’t mince words about it.

The place is not along the shoreline of the Niger. The shoreline of the Niger lies in Anam and Nzam. I discovered that Anambra population zones are always far away from Niger shoreline except Onitsha city. Ogbaru and Anambra west which control the longer shoreline of the Niger remain sparsely populated

If Nsugbe isn’t along the coast of the Niger, it is your village in Osun that is along the coast. Mad people everywhere.

You're absolutely right, a lot of people want to setup an industry on that axis because of its proximity to Onitsha and the much availability of lands on that area. But the problem here is that the road is yet to be dualised.
From the boundary bridge between Nsugbe and Umueri down to Aguleri Junction will be filled with Industries once the road is dualised.
This road dualisation will also uplift the face of the newly Ikenga Umueri International market that's currently under construction.

Apart from opening the area for tourism due to the massive beaches along the axis as well as new industrial estates, the area also holds the key to maximum food production in Anambra. As that area lies along the shore of the River Niger.

One of Obiano’s greatest achievements was translating his love for rice production into tangible steps to prioritize and kickstart the commercial rice revolution in Anambra state through attracting massive private sector investment in commercial rice farming. To the extent of making Anambra a leading rice producing state in Nigeria today.

One also prays that Soludo’s agricultural agenda will prioritize another area where Anambra has huge comparative advantage. Such as fish production due to abundance of big rivers in the state. Like Obiano did to achieve rice revolution, Soludo could try to attract private investors in commercial fish production to drive development of integrated commercial fish farms along the axis. This will create massive jobs and wealth as well as turn Anambra into a leading fish producing location in West and Central Africa.
