TV/Movies / Re: Multichoice To Appeal ₦150M Fine By Tribunal by CuteTj(m): 10:29am On Jun 08 |
I don't understand the fixation of us Nigerians with Multichoice. Cable TV is a luxury and not a necessity. If you do not watch DStv, you will not die. Kindly watch Startimes or NTA. Do you guys even know how much it takes to run a business in an hostile country like Nigeria? Government increased fuel price, Consumer protection did not do anything. Prices of food increased, Consumer protection did not sanction market women. Government increased electricity tariff, Consumer protection did not prevent them. All these things with it's ripple effects has an impact on Multichoice and other businesses but it's Multichoice which it's the minority of the populace that use their service of which it's a luxury, we are fixing our eyes upon. 2 Likes |

Travel / Re: Nigerians In Oslo, Norway by CuteTj(m): 12:03pm On Apr 15, 2022 |
KillerBeauty:I agree to some extent that you cannot easily learn the language before you get to Norway. The best way of learning a language is surrounding yourself with speakers. And I also disagree that you cannot fully learn it until you arrive Norway. When I got here, two people testified about a lady that learnt Norwegian before arriving here. I got to meet her last month and she said she learnt it to a degree she could make herself understood and to a very good extent understand people all under 9 months. Let me share a story. I went for an interview just 7 days I arrived here and after a smooth exercise, the Norwegian said it was unfortunate he couldn't hire me despite he being interested in my skill set but me not speaking the language made him reach the conclusion to not offer me the job. He then advised I take my time to learn the language and get used to the system. When you get here, the locals will tell you to take your time. Unless you have all the money in the world and can afford to not work. Then you may take your time. But If you are like me who slightly regrets not making the move to leave Nigeria at a younger age and now has a family to take care of, you won't take your time. You have to hit the ground running. If you are student and at the same time have to work alongside your studies, the 2 years you estimated might turn out to be prolonged. As the stress of daily life might prevent you from mixing with Norwegian speakers. You won't realize the seriousness of this language matter until you get here. Aktor: For all of you advising him to take up the offer, I will advise him not to take it if he does not feel comfortable with it. We here know Norway is a great country but its not a country for everyone. Jobs are difficult to get not to talk of professional jobs. Hence people use it as a transit country. When I left Nigeria for Norway, a friend of mine also left for UK at the same time and he got a job after one week (even though it was not a professional job) while I was still searching for a job without success. Since I had a family to feed and was under financial stress, i had no choice but to start searching for any job and that still proved difficult. Eventually I got something to do and my financial stress ended but it was initially tough. A lady also on this thread got admission to study the same course as my wife but she turned it down and headed to the UK with her family. Her husband and her were able to get basic jobs early. A Ghanian friend I have in Stavanger has a job with Schlumberger waiting for him in Italy but he his reluctant to leave Norway and is trying his best to get a job but its been difficult. Getting a professional job in Norway is difficult after studies as our names, colour and inability to speak Norwegian is a disadvantage. So my friend, go to an english speaking country if you do not feel comfortable with Norway. Norway is not everyone's destiny! Although It is one of the best countries in the world with a system better than America or England but getting a job is difficult unlike those english speaking countries. Norway or English speaking country?? The main thing is leaving Nigeria for a western country!! 1 Like |

Cornrows:Truly its a funny one which I have never seen before. Do you have in excess of N12m to send to Norway as per the POF for both schools? And if you do, you may succed in getting the visa but where you will run into roadblocks is when you have to renew your study permit. The school through which you were granted a visa has to send a document to immigration showing that you are still a student but in your case it wont happen therefore UDI will most likely reject your renewal request & your dishonesty will be laid bare. Its a sharp suggestion to game their system but one which will collapse when the time comes. 3 Likes |

@ Ajibolaoi I can't say learn it to Level A1, A2, B1 or B2. Just learn it to a point where you can understand and respond when engaged in a conversation (be it broken Norwegian). How many months will depend on how fast you learn new things and desire to learn it. |

The most important advise I will give prospective students and applicants is: LEARN NORWEGIAN BEFORE COMING! I can't stress that enough. That is what will open doors for you in Norway. |

Exceldamsel:I am doing great. Thank you. If your family has EU citizenship, yes you can travel immediately with your family but If you have Nigerian citizenship like I and my family, perish the thought of going immediately with your family. Waiting time for a spouse to join a partner who is a student depends on many factors e.g your nationality and if you have children or not. If you have children, you must do a DNA test. Realistically budget between 2 - 6 months from the time your spouse student leaves for Norway (and not when you apply) to join them. |

uchechukwu007:Schengen countries share the same database with regards to applications, refusals and visa issuance. When you apply to Norway, there is a part they ask if you have been rejected by another Schengen country. State yes and the reason (that is what I mean by clearing it up). Since the reason for the refusal was something mundane and not crime related (false documentation, forgery, false information etc.). A refusal by another country does not mean an automatic rejection by Norway. Only a ban from another Schengen country will mean an outright ban from Norway. |

Easternheart: Students and their spouses do not pay the same visa fee. Their visa categories are different. Find attached the visa fees for family immigration and for studies. I am currently in Norway on a family immigration permit. After foreign exchange, what I paid as visa fee amounted to N640,000 for myself and N280,000 for my wife. This was before Naira:Dollar became 570:1. So I can bet that that amounted would have further increased. Another look just before posting this and I discovered that study permit visa fee has increased. When my wife applied for her visa, it was 4000 and something NOK but I can see that it has now been increased to 5,900 NOK. Prospective students should brace up!
