Ferrari needs to ensure Vettel takes his meds this season. What in heavens name was he thinking with that brain fart. Terribly unfortunate for Bottas, though I doubt he has a chance of being involved in the DRC. Raikonnen is already pretty unpredictable and unreliable, Ferrari can't afford Vettel doing the same. Constructor championship lead still intact thanks to bad luck for Bottas. |

Ferrari better be learning from last seasons mistakes and not trying to get Vettel to the end on those tires. |

it's clear LVG has given d players a lot more breathing room tactically and the result is we aren't playing comatose attacking football for a change |

chrisley024: We have a large number already in Morgan, Bastian, Carrick, Ander, Mata, Perreira. The issue is the philosophy, LVG insist on a possession, possession, yet even more possession philosophy and if any midfielder takes chances in possession that don't pay off immediately, they are quickly punished by being benched or pushed out of position e.g Mata, Herrera even Blind. Meanwhile our existing strikers don't have discipline or composure to bide their time, watching numerous backward and sideways passes, waiting for the once in a blue moon, when an incisive pass in behind is attempted. When we do try to play in behind, we have spent so long with over elaborate possession, that we have allowed the opposition to setup, giving the striker a mountain to climb with a defense already expecting the pass. http://metro.co.uk/2015/11/02/manchester-united-have-had-second-fewest-shots-in-the-premier-league-this-season-stats-show-5475673/ http://metro.co.uk/2015/11/26/manchester-united-make-more-passes-per-shot-than-any-other-premier-league-side-stats-show-5527308/ http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/30/louis-van-gaals-manchester-united-have-played-more-backwards-passes-than-any-other-premier-league-side-this-season-5471544/ This isn't mostly the attacking players, its LVG instructions, tactics and approach. Funny enough i completely understand LVG's desire to build a solid base, then expand it from there. Just look how Brendan Rodgers over focus on attack, failed Liverpool woefully eventually. Though, LVG has to understand that United, both fans and players, aren't accustomed to this type of deliberately drab and dour football, particularly when attacking is still a viable option. He had better hope that his system delivers results soon, else he could find himself in trouble. |

Why do so many coaches play left footed wingers on the right and vice versa. Lingard hasn't looked effective all night on the left. Mata struggled terribly on the right. But the second right footed Lingard is shifted to the right, he is finally effective. Inverted wingers sometimes do more harm than good |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by montelik(m): 10:30am On May 23, 2015 |
I believe I said it a while back that if Valencia didn't get his act together, he was destined to have his career at United follow the Quinton Fortune route. Quinton Fortune went from left wing to left back to defensive midfield before eventually leaving, never really making a lasting impression, despite his qualities. And this is exactly what has and is happening to Valencia. A player whom you have no confidence or belief to play in his supposedly natural position, but whose qualities mean you can use him as a stop gap to fill certain roles and squad deficiencies, but will never command a true starting position. I was also vehemently against playing Jones in midfield because I felt not was he not suited for the role, but most importantly we were impeding the much needed development and improvement he required as a central defender. Now look at Jones, for all his natural ability and gifts, he is still making academy style mistakes 4 years since signing, plus stupidly getting himself injure with terrible overall technique (tackling, running, positioning, you name it), stuff that should have been all but been eliminated since 2013. At least Smalling has cut down on the high school defending errors, even though he still makes a good amount of mistakes. You can very easily see his strengths (physically capable) and weaknesses (terrible on the ball). We need a new right back, someone who can come in and start, as well bring added stability. Then we need a central defender with leadership capability. One who can lead and assist the relatively talent we already have to finally step up a few levels. |
Sports / Re: Floyd Mayweather Vs Manny Pacquiao - Boxing by montelik(m): 5:47am On May 03, 2015 |
Honestly Pacquiao of now, is not the Manny of 5-6 years ago and Mayweather is too obsessed with protecting his legacy these days, unlike years back when he wasn't so focused on running up the Vegas scorecard on the way to a huge paycheck. Had this fight happened years ago, it would have at least been entertaining enough to match the preceding hype, whomever won or lost. Now it's quite boring, which would suit Floyd's overall approach.. 9 Likes |

Pacquiao has responded well, so long as he doesn't suffer a catastrophy in the rounds to come, this will be a contentious decision either way. Which suits everybody, because Rematch means everybody gets paid to do it all over again. |

Okay that was a tough round 7. Could go either way, but knowing Vegas that would likely be scored for Floyd |

Okay round six for Pacman. I have it 4-2 in favour of Mayweather. |

This one is over. Mayweather will win if it goes the distance. Pacman no longer has the tools to threaten Mayweather on points and Floyd will not be knocked out. He needs to shake up Mayweather's plan soon. |

If this fight had happened when it was first wanted in 08 & 09 or even 3 years ago, I would have put all my money on Pacman. But by all measures you have to make Mayweather the favorite here. This fight will be decided by the judges, simply because Mayweather is too perfect a defensive fighter too ever get knocked out and too smart too get into the ring with anyone who still carries a seriously genuine threat to knock him out. Mayweather can't lose at Vegas with his style, the judges will always go his way, he has perfected the art of winning the judges scorecard and he will never let himself get knocked out. You want to beat Floyd, you have to be able to do it on points. Forget the idea of knocking him out, or scoring knockdowns at least until you can first prove a big threat to him by leading the scorecard. The reason why some boxing fans and a lot of insiders were actually confident of Pacman's ability to defeat Mayweather when this fight was first proposed, was because Pacman was the only boxer with the style (southpaw), heart, energy/workrate and most importantly discipline, to take Floyd out of his comfort zone by actually making him worry about losing on a Vegas scorecard, plus the added bonus that he had the ability to knock him down and even knock him out, if Floyd tried to switch from his base approach. But enough time has passed now and incidents taken place, to have diminished a lot of what would have made Pacman a nightmare opponent for Floyd. Meanwhile time has been a lot kinder to Mayweather and his own strengths and weaknesses. 2 Likes 1 Share |

You can argue that wasn't a penalty, but no way can you say it was a dive. Herrera had no obligation to avoid Cahill's over eager challenge |

We are in a bad corner. In situations like these, u go back to basics. DDG stays in goal, Shaw comes in for Blind and one of Blackett or Mcnair in defence for Jones, try not to make too many changes to the back 4. In midfield we have no choice but to go with Herrera, Rooney and Fellaini across the middle. Young switches to the right to assist Valencia in taming Hazard and Di maria returns on the left, while Falcao gets to start up top. ------------DDG------------ Val----Smal-----McN-----Shaw You--Roo--Fella--Herr--Maria ----------Falcao------------- |
