Oga osita, you can see what I meant that banks will pump thr price before they come to market. They have started rolling the balls.i hope it was you we had that discussion in the past.what do you think will happen to bank stocks with this kind results we are seeing. Let see how the market reacts before they begin thr offers

I don't see any pumping here. The dollar has increased in value by more than 60%, so it is normal to record huge paper gains and substantial interest income on foreign investments. That is precisely what we are observing, nothing more.

If I were asked to present my own version of "hopeville", I would say that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) already anticipated this situation, which is why they made such substantial requests, and the banks did not object because they knew the results would unfold in this manner.

In other words, once the Naira plunged in value, it was a near certainty that these excess gains would materialize. undecided

lol... Based on this your explanation, failure rate go high.

Why is that so? Did you catch any inaccuracies in my mini-lecture? It is simple enough. All over the world, when purchasing government treasury bills, you don't pay the face value; you pay the discounted value. Then, at maturity, you get the face value.

So, paying the face value and getting a discount on the bid day in Nigerian banks is actually what I explained. The other point is about yield. Whether it's a treasury bill or any other form of investment, the yield is the return divided by the investment.

Don't come here and badmouth my consultancy business if you don't have any reason to do so. You don't need to like me, okay? grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy wink wink

I get the concept it’s still not making sense tho how they got the calculation, reason I asked

Now, pay attention to my mini masterclass in personal finance.

You invested 100,000 in Treasury Bills at a 16% discount rate. They pay 16,000 upfront (that is, at the start of the tenure, they return 16,000 to you). Effectively, they collected 84,000 from you, and at the end of the tenure, they pay you 100,000 (they call this the face value).

Now, pay attention very carefully, I am about to say something very important.

Yield is the extra money you get divided by initial investment. You invested 84,000 for the tenure and got an extra 16,000. The yield should be 19%, while the discount rate is 16%.

There will be a final exam on Monday. wink cheesy

Read the notes and you will find out that it is still due to foreign exchange losses, about 7 billion naira.

I noticed that companies that avoided reporting the foreign exchange losses in their annual results did so in this first quarter. I mean manufacturing companies. Service companies like NAHCO and some others didn't have this problem.

One exception is MTNN; it reported these losses in both reports.

No, that was not the issue. Revenue increased by almost 40%, while gross profit increased by 60%. In my opinion, NASCON performed very well. The problem lies with the exchange rate losses.

Education / Re: My Review Of Utme 2024 Utme Mathematics Examination (they Set Sin40°) by ositadima1(m): 9:54am On Apr 30
Mrshape:
On Tuesday morning, April 23rd, 2024, was set for my UTME examination. My center was close to my house, so at 6:20 am, I came out from the house hoping to catch an auto rickshaw . I left with my ATM card, ID card and my JAMB examination photo card. On getting to the junction, I observed there was no auto rickshaw, so I had to run down to the road before I was able to see a vehicle. I appreciated the running because it was an opportunity for me to do some exercise, which people had been advising me to take because of my sedentary nature due to work.

When I got to the center, it was not very crowded as I thought. I proceeded to the queue, and a man asked me if I could have my phone. I said no. After the thumb printing, we went further to the hall to sit down. Although there were not enough chairs the People organizing it were kind enough to release their chairs to students to sit down. I applaud them for that.

As I was about entered the main hall for the computers, it was advocated that ID card and ATM cards was not allowed, that it was part of the rules sent to us, so I had to go down and check for one of my fellow proprietors I saw around and I gave him my items so that I could pick them up when I'm done with the exam. I really appreciated that

I began with English, I was trying to navigate to find where to shortcut to transit it to mathematics, but I was unable to find a way out (maybe I it isa available but I don't know how to navigate it,but I later found out that I can move to the next by selecting the last question of the subject and clicking on next, this was when I was stuffing through the system in my third subject) The computer screen was not as big as I expected, so scrolling up and down was challenging. In the English section, I went to choose Hakini instead of Hakini because I didn't read the novel, I only listen to the audiobook,. I checked it up later, and it was Hakimi not Hakini, I failed that question, so UTME student sould listen and read the novel to be able to identify correct spellings as it is one of the aspect to be tested as outlined out in the English syllabus

Next was physics the physics was ok , *Next Mathematics I did well in this, except for a question asking to find the area of a triangle, given the angle between the two sides 40° which formula was 0.5 * a * b * sin 40°. It was unfortunate that 40° is not part of special angles. I was racking my brain on how to solve this. I know the sine of 30° and sin 60 = 0.8660, The option to the question was have same whole number with only a difference in the second decimal place, . This was the challenge was a challenge to identify the correct option. JAMB should stick to the agreement set questions using special angles only and if they are to go variant the options should be distinct son that a student should obviously be able to choose the correct option with knowledge of special angles and trigonometry graph visualization,
There was a question in my mathematics binary operation using LCM, I applaud JAMB for that question whoever set question is very smart, after solving it I smiled.

After my mathematics I was left with about 12 minutes for chemistry maybe I fell in love with the mathematics questions trying to look at the reason why each questions was set, well it was fun.

When I saw I have just 12 minutes remaining for chemistry I know this is not the time to start calculation in the chemistry I hurried move through the questions to find the ones can easily I identify the answer I click on then why the others I just used possible elimination to choice a possible answer
In total I am expecting
Mathematics around 98±2
English around 85±10
Physics around 89±8
Chemistry around 70±10
Total around 330 to 360

For the record I applied for BCE Mathematics I might go and study the course but I would have prefarerd Mathematics and Artificial intelligence but no school in Nigeria is offering it.

I think they may have wanted to test a few skills, even though there is no standard sin 40°, and it is not easy to get it with a trigonometric identity either. Then, you should have calculated for sin 30° and sin 45°. The area should be somewhere in between but closer to sin 45°. After that, go through the answers to see which one satisfies these inequalities.

To make the statement "Alhaji will not allow the price fall because he wants to retain his Forbes ranking.....Even when it is glaring that the NS/DS price is falling rapidly" evidence-based rather than blind hopefulness, several things would be required:

1. Factual evidence that "Alhaji" has the power and mechanisms to directly influence or control the price of the assets in question (NS/DS).
2. Clear documentation or public statements from "Alhaji" explicitly stating that retaining their Forbes ranking is a top priority that would motivate actions to support the asset's price.
3. Data showing "Alhaji's" past actions successfully arresting price declines of this asset (or other assets) when their wealth rankings were at risk.
4. Analysis of "Alhaji's" current net worth position and how preventing this particular asset's price fall is critical to maintaining their Forbes ranking.
5. Information on the specific strategies, financial resources, and legal means "Alhaji" could employ to prop up the price despite market forces.

Similarly, to make the hypothesis "The Brewery industry did not rally upwards in 2023, when compared to other sectors on the NGX.....So it is already down and needs fear no fall" evidence-based, the following would be required:

1. Factual market data showing the performance of the Brewery industry stocks/sector on the NGX (Nigerian Stock Exchange) in 2023 compared to other sectors.
2. Analysis and quantification of how much the Brewery sector underperformed or "did not rally upwards" relative to the other sectors.
3. Research on the typical behavior and patterns of sectors/industries that have underperformed the broader market in a given year. Do they tend to continue underperforming or recover in subsequent years?
4. Fundamental analysis of the Brewery companies to assess if their current stock prices/valuations already reflect the underperformance in 2023. In other words, are they now "already down"?
5. Examination of the overall economic factors, consumer trends, competitive landscape etc. that could impact the Brewery sector's prospects going forward.
6. Study of historical cases where underperforming sectors saw either a continuation of negative returns or a rebound/recovery.

This response is to you and Ositadima1

What i wrote up here was not hope. It was me drawing my own objective conclusion based on what i am seeing from a company's AFS, the brewery industry and the economy at large. That is an analytical conclusion. It may pay off or blow up in my face.............

The HOPE i always object to on this NSEMPA thread is backed by nothing other than mere wishes and pipe dreams. Here are a few of those hopeful analysis and emotional outburst advice:

1. Wale will not delist because he is seeing how much money Tony and OTE is making on the NGX
2. Let's just hope and pray that a certain CEO of a certain O and O company does the right thing
3. Alhaji will not allow the price fall because he wants to retain his Forbes ranking.....Even when it is glaring that the NS/DS price is falling rapidly grin grin grin
4. Why will company B hastily release a Press release about suspending a merger. They must be investigated grin grin grin
5. Don't sell, wait!!.........Company A has not said anything like company B about cancelling a merger, so therefore something is cooking
6. Tony is working hard to make Forbes list this year... grin grin

I understand your logic that we have "well-reasoned speculation" (informed, logically-derived forecasting) and "blind hopefulness" (baseless wishful thinking).

The problem is that you are not doing any better. Read these two statements carefully: "Alhaji will not allow the price fall because he wants to retain his Forbes ranking.....Even when it is glaring that the NS/DS price is falling rapidly" and "The Brewery industry did not rally upwards in 2023, when compared to other sectors on the NGX.....So it is already down and needs fear no fall."

They both belong to the same category...

grin grin grin I guess you missed the sarcasm. I respect Locotrader..Why? He has a large heart to come and say: "Hey! Everybody, look at this stock and do your due DD."

Only this 1 kiss and tell wey we do for ChampionBrewery, everywhere just dey hot grin grin Why did Locotrader show his ChampBrew holdings? Because he was accused of luring people in so he can exit. Same reason i have been issuing disclaimer for this 1 ChampBrew wey i buy and reveal.....Before person go tell me say him sell him father house because of ChampBrew....

I no dey invest in Hope..........After analyzing all the brewery companies, i chose to put my money in ChampBrew for 3 reasons:

1. Low Free Float of 3% of Outstanding share
2. A possible buyout from Raysun, since they have made a move for such in the past.
3. The Brewery industry did not rally upwards in 2023, when compared to other sectors on the NGX.....So it is already down and needs fear no fall.
4. Possible turn around of the company given the dominance in its region if NO 2 fails to happen,......Any positive news or slightest sign of recovery will push the price of ChampBrew at a higher rate because of reason number 1 above, Low Free Float.

Why don't you take the time to look up the meaning of hope in the dictionary? I don't blame you for not understanding the word.

Out of the four reasons you gave, only number one is factual (though I haven't confirmed this); the rest are based on hope.

Reason 2: "The Brewery industry did not rally upwards in 2023, when compared to other sectors on the NGX.....So it is already down and needs fear no fall." This reason assumes that because the industry did not rally in 2023, it is less likely to fall further. This is more of a hopeful assumption rather than a fact-based analysis.

Reason 3: A possible buyout from Raysun: While Raysun's past acquisitions are a positive indicator, there's no guarantee they'll target ChampBrew. This reason relies on the hope that a buyout will happen.

Reason 4: Possible turnaround of the company: This reason hinges on the company improving its performance, which is uncertain. You're hoping that ChampBrew's dominance in its region will translate to a turnaround.

They key points of the DS announcement:

*Previously Announced Merger: On July 31, 2023, DSR announced a proposed merger with NASCON and DRL through a "Scheme of Merger."

*Merger on Hold: The announcement states that the merging entities have agreed to suspend the merger "for the time being."

*Reason for Suspension: The Securities & Exchange Commission's (SEC) recommendation regarding the status of Dangote Rice Limited (DRL) is cited as the reason for the suspension. The nature of the SEC's recommendation is not specified.

*Future Communication: The announcement assures the investing public and regulators that further information will be provided "in due course."

This is where reading between the lines comes in. For those who bought in at 60 naira or higher, Pa Ema, myself, and a few others were advocating for this stock way back when it was at 18, 23, and so on. The key is to act sooner, not wait until a stock has already risen 50% before jumping on board.

What the heck are you saying, my friend? What is the certainty in that champion brewery that you have been parading here?

You see hope that the price may go up if XYZ happens, the same way people in DS/NS saw hope when they heard about the merger. If you claim that the merger would not have sent DS/NS flying upward, then I don't think you are a good investor either.

Now, the merger is on pause, not canceled, pending when the issues holding it back get cleared. I understand Dangote is quite busy with his refinery, which is why he hasn't pushed this one further. I can assure you that I haven't seen a project of this magnitude abandoned by Dangote; the rice mill will come, as he has invested quite a lot. The merger will happen; it is not a matter of hope, it is a matter of when.

So, don't talk as if you know what the market will do next, besides hoping that your permutation is right. If you were a pro, we would know...

Why should NB pull out in a healthy company is the question?

Champion can only get better at their exit.Let their exit price be #10 self let's have another breathe of life.

Remember you still never given any answer to my question. I want to know the worst that can happen to champion as NB a fellow competitor is pulling out.....

Funny question you're asking, what is the worst thing that will happen to you tomorrow? You'd better sell your Champion now and invest it in DS.

Forget the brouhaha that is going on now, Dangote Foods will come, and we will see #180 and above. Worst case, Dangote will throw in his pasta and tomato paste to sweeten the deal. I am trying to sell some of what I bought higher to buy again lower.

I have seen the structures Dangote has put in place for rice production and milling, and I know he doesn't do things halfway; he is not a slacker from what I see and will follow this through.
