Hello all, reporting live from Atlanta. I just want to thank GOD for his favour through out the trip. Following kween's advice I asked for extra legroom and I got a good seat , aisle and quite near the toilet so I didn't have to walk far. Hostess were real nice. Then I decided to change on the flight before landing. We met a long queue but it moved quite fast. While on the queue an officer checked my border form and asked a few questions.

Then I met the CBP and this is how it went
CBP: good morning ma
Me:good morning
CBP: Why are you here
Me: vacation and to have my baby
CBP: which is more important
Me: both of them
CBP: do you have a doctor
Me: yes
CBP: have you made any payments
Me: no but I have been registered and will pay once I start using the hospital
CBP: how much cash do you have
Me: 9.5k
CBP: what do you do
Me: ..... For xx company
By this time he had told me to fingerprint and stamped me in till April next year. He refused to check any documents even when I showed them to him.
CBP: you can go and wish you success
Me: thank you and I left.

I went to secondary inspection where my foodstuff was checked and okayed. Now waiting for my connecting flight.
I just want to thank all the regular contributors on this site. I learned so much from you and wish you all the same smooth POE. Sorry for the long post.

Are you sure about this? So what about those of us using dropbox to apply for childbirth? I'm guessing we would need to include supporting documents for that.
Please help confirm if you know.
Thanks

Phema:

Sweetg, long time. How are you and LO?

To your question; drop box does not require you include any document. All they will ask for is your international passport, Passport photograph and DS 160 confirmation. They will likely not accept any supporting documents.

I understand why you are kinda concerned wink. You shouldn't be. You will be just fine.

Its same procedure for anyone using Drop box. No one I know has been asked or even allowed to include supporting documents. Your best bet is to fill your DS 160 form diligently to carry the 'medical' undertone and send the Embassy a mail afterwards.

My people pls what's d pregnancy restriction for united airlines again becos i'm getting conflicting informations.
. Same here, the customer contact person told me 32weeks max when I called the contact cente. I almost bought Delta when I heard this but decided to cross check one more time. I went to the united office at the airport today (the office is opposite the BA check in counter). The guy I met there said there's no restriction as long as you have your fit to fly. Some goods news for me.

Dzizz:

abeg teamtanny, how much exactly is it for normal delivery and planned CS at JPS. U mentioned $4k and $5k respectively. Are these amounts just only the hospital's charges for delivery or for everything including OBGYN, Paed fees, lab work, epidural? How much grand total do i budget for an elective CS? Also after how many weeks of pregnancy do they stop accepting a new patient. Please reply and help a sister

@dzizz, JPS package is actually btw 4-4.5k for virginal delivery and 5-5.5k for CS and it includes all doc's visit, 2 sonograms, 1 emergency visit, 1 pediatrician visit cant rem others if these are not all.it doesnt include anesthesia and some other. Their form states what the package includes and what it does not.

temmytanny:
normal charges is 4k but birth tru c n s is extra 1k.your package covers some lab tests but not all,I think just 2lab tests.it doesn't cover epidural. They accept new patients all the time provided you make your payments before delivery. For c n s, please budget 6500$

@temmytanny, plz does your friend had an appointment with JPS before coming or what paper work did she show at POE if she did show any

Shelly23,
I renewed my US visa by dropbox in June, and I did not submit any additional documents, except for the required ones (international passport, one passport photo, DS-160 confirmation page, and my dropbox letter). So you do not have to worry.

Also waiting for answer to this question...though I quiet understand that with ur hubby being the sponsor with all necessary document and of course a pretty statement of account that can cover ur bills...its ok...but wat abt a new enterprenuer or housewife but also with the help of hubby...can dere be any issue?..
Vivi14:
Thanks for responding.

Do you think I would have issues as a housewife/ new entrepreneur, I see that they keep asking people where they work. I hope that won't affect the chances of getting a visa.

Also, how long do people usually plan to be in the US for when having a baby? Is 3 months too short? Considering you have to get a new passport and Nigerian Visa to travel?

Thanks again

Many Housewives have gotten their visas approved. You've got nothing to worry about if your hubby has enough fund to sponsor the trip. You can indicate on your DS 160 form that you do business, briefly explain what the business entails and quote your average monthly income.

They will prolly focus on your hubby's finances though once you indicate he's the one sponsoring.

Hello All,

Had my interview this morning with my wife and son but unfortunately was denied. My VO was a white woman with glass. Not sure the window number but its the second window by the exit/entry door beside her is a black woman with braided hair who looks like a naija woman though

Below is the manuscript. i may have missed out one or two questions and there are not necessarily in the sequenced they were asked

Me: Good morning
VO: Good Morning Sir, Can you please place your fingers on that please
VO: thank You
VO:Madam, Can you please place your fingers on that please
VO: thank You
VO: Why are you traveling to houston
Me: My wife is traveling for childbirth while myself and my son for vacation. We were also invite by a friend
VO: what do you do sir
Me: I work for ABYZ company as a TTT
VO: Have you travelled before
Me: Yes to india,SA,ghana and my wife traveled me to india on an occasion
VO: Madam, where do you work
Wifey: I work for ABYZ company as a TTT
VO: who would be paying for the trip and hospital bills
Me: myself
VO: Sir, how much do you earn
Me: 123 amount(gave monthly after tax and all deductions)
VO: looks at a sheet pasted on her board and types
VO: Madam, how much do you earn
Wifey: 123 amount(gave monthly after tax and all deductions)
VO: looks at a sheet pasted on her board and types
VO; Why did you choose Houston
Me: Because of its affordability yet qualitative service and also since I wont be going immediately, I needed her to be close to some i know to check up on her
VO: She types and types and types and after she says she is sorry that we cannot be granted visa at this time. puts in a letter and she states we would see the reason why we were denied but looking at the letter, its just a generic sheet

She never even asked for budget, hospital confirmation or even if i had paid nor the invitation letter nor the load of evidence I carried. She denied quite a number of people before me as i only noticed her approved only two persons.

I am not sure i want to re-apply but should i decide, what do I have too look out for and how long does one have to wait before re-application.
Also if i would re-apply, i would do so without my son as the only thing i kept thinking in my mind was like from the application and the question set she answered,She may have thought "Oh yea, these guys are definitely not coming back home"

bloggerina:
Hello TemmyTanny,
As you rightly said, birthing centres are always cheaper than hospitals but the truth is that when you use a birthing centre you must be aware that it is best for uncomplicated deliveries. As a patient, you are taking a huge risk because you can never really say how things will go during delivery and when you are transfered to a hospital you'll be billed as an emergency case.
There are no hidden charges in the US. Nobody will send you a bill if services were not rendered. Most of us don't really read package plans & agreements well, we just look at the figure, smile (esp when its quite pocket-friendly), append our signatures and walk away but they ALWAYS state what it covers. That means any other service not listed will be paid for separately. All package plans cover just "well mom & baby". That means that for your friend's baby that had some complications, you should be expecting a bill from both the hospital and the NICU Pediatricians. All you can hope to do is to negotiate as you have been doing but pls advise your friend to pay all the bills and get her account to zero balance for every service provider otherwise each of her accounts will be transfered to a debt collector and the US embassy will see it everytime her name is queried on their system for visa renewal and she won't be granted one until she pays the all.

The onus lies on each and everyone of us to read well b4 signing anything. Some mummies have signed for medicaid after delivery just because they didn't read. Then visa renewal became a problem. They just signed all the forms given to them because the hospital staff said so. I don't know why we just don't like to read and ask engaging questions. If there's any form you don't really understand, set it aside and ask questions b4 you sign. We also need to do our homework well b4 choosing a hospital. If the charges are all-encompassing like MIHS, Elpaso & co, they will write it there. If they don't put it there, then you should know they will bill you separetely for everyth. Do you know some hospital packages don't even cover pharmacy? Lol. So if you ask for pain medication, suppository or anything, dem go bill you. Look b4 you leap and as much as possible, try to speak to pple who have used that hospital b4. They'll have a. Few pointers that can be useful when you are trying to choose a hospital.
Just my own advise according to my experience sha.
Who send me msg to be typing long post sef. Lol
Cheers

do you know there is discharge fee?(143$)
once you give birth it is mandatory for jps physician group doctor to check your child, complication or not. there is charge for that.
you are only eligible for 2 sonogram before birth but they may do up to 4 for you and that is extra cost.
Those are some of the charges i am talking about.by the time you summed it up,its going to over $500.Thats why i told you all to always ask them if wat they are giving you is part of your package. bear in mind that you may need taxi for your trips in you dont have good or reliable source help in dallas.depending on location to the nearest JPS,you could be spending up to $300 in all for tfare to move around

To God be the glory!!!!...I got my visa approved on Friday.

Indeed it was a(25mins) drill and unexpected questions. Here is the transcript...

Me: Good morning
VO: Good Morning
VO: Reason for travelling
Hubby: Vacation and childbirth
VO: Which state in USA
Hubby: Philadelphia and New York for vacation and then New Jersey for Childbirth.
VO: have you been there before?
Hubby: Yes, for a training
VO: For how long
Hubby: Three weeks
VO: how long is your marriage..
hubby: Bleep
VO: When was your traditional marriage?
Hubby: last year
VO: what is your mother-in-law's name
me: Mrs...(VO: I'm not referring to you, the question is for him (hubby))
Hubby: Mrs...Bleep
VO: what is your father-in-law's name?
Hubby: Mr Bleep
VO: Your wife's home address before she got married?
Hubby: (hubby mentioned the location..the VO asked him for the full address) thank God hubby remembered the add.
VO: Where did you do you wedding
Hubby:Bleep
VO: Do you have your wedding Pic
Hubby: He showed him our wedding pic (we only brought one copy)
VO: looked at the picture and asked (Who was that and the name?)
Hubby: the Priest and Fr.xxxx
VO: have you travelled before together?
Hubby: Yes...Bleep
VO: For honeymoon?
Hubby: No.
VO: Do you know her two years ago?
Hubby: Yes
VO: What where you to her then?
Hubby: Friend
VO: Have you been to this country Bleep (one country in African)
Hubby: Yes but on transient
VO: for how many days
Hubby: for I night
VO: Where do you work
Hubby: Bleep
VO: (nodded)
VO: what is your job role
Hubby: Bleep
VO: How much do you earn together with your wife monthly
Hubby:Bleep
VO:How Much do you planned to spend?
Hubby: Bleep
VO: Why that hug amount?(with a surprised look)
Hubby: for vacation and Childbirth
VO: Oh! I see (he nodded)
VO: How old is your pregnancy ?
Me: 13 weeks plus
VO: Which Hospital?
Me: Infact the name don comot for my head...i just heard myself saying..Hackens..Hackensack..thank God for hubby)
Hubby: We have email correspondent with the doctor /Agent
VO: let me see (hubby showed the letter to him)
VO: when do you intend travelling?
Hubby: Early January
VO: Do you wish to travel before then?
Hubby: The plan is for January
VO: Pick up your passport after the break...

This was just too much....Hubby was already getting tired of the questions. I thank God, that the drill was not in vain.
Infact the name of the hospital no come fit me pronounce Hacken..Hacken..lol..I was not so sure of the name, because his email correspondent has been with the agent/doctor and he is the initiator., Hubby was a bit worried as per..where did my wife see the name of the hospital, hope she knows what she is saying...lol.

(Maybe the questions about me was because of my first denial when I applied for a training sometime last two years while I was still single. My company sponsored but the VO wanted my account statement too, back then I had little or no fund then..lol..thus my denial).

We really have to be prepared, they can ask the unexpected.

So glad I joined this forum. I was able to convince huuby to prepare a spread sheet and to take our wedding photograph...he managed to take just one. He believed that nothing can make them deny our Visa since he is a frequent traveller ...Omo..me I no wan take chance at all....they don deny me before and I don't want to go unprepared... I reduced cost of personal spending to boost my bank account details (hubby would asked are you the one sponsoring yourself, why are you giving yourself headache for nothing (in my mind i would say you don't know this witchy witchy VOs..dey fit come again come ask me the same question.. i no wan third chance for this good condition we i dey so....lol).

When he saw the drill, he confessed to me that at a point he got confused..lol

My husband learnt a lesson from this...never to be too confidence about yourself....all through his trips interview has been so easy for him little questions without stress.

I thank God for His favour and this wonderful forum for your contributions.

One love.
