One of Rochas Okorocha's official acts in office was to order the closure of nuuude dancing brothels in Owerri. But he was tongue-lashed for that by the landlords.

Take your insults to your state. At least show us what improvement your state has recorded thus far. Imo may not be a paradise, yet it is still a work in progress. A state solely developed by the people is a state worthy of emulation. Owerri as a capital from the days of Dee Sam Mbakwe is the only non-federal state in Nigeria that still has its master plan intact. At least it's on record that all the key infrastructures in the state emanated from tax payers money - to the extent that even my grandmother volunteered her own little quota to make Imo what it is today, the same goes with other families. From the Imo airport, to the first state university in the Igboland (now ABSU) down to every major infrastructure, all came from the sweat of Ndimo. Hence, as Imolites we love our state and its developmental pace; nothing, not even you can change that fact. So please take your hate somewhere else, or die with it, if it makes your soul be at rest.

May thunder strike you there. Where in Nigeria is free from Prostitution. Even the nude club you mentioned, does it only exist in Owerri. Are they no nude clubs in Lagos, Abuja, Benin, Asaba, Calabar, Uyo and even P/H its main division. Why is it that you are so pained whenever Owerri is mentioned? Why does the name Owerri give you sleepless night? Did any Imo man snatch your wife. You son of a woman. Since you have made this thread your home, may all your children and grandchildren build and invest all their fortune in Imo state. May they marry Imo wives, and may all their children become Imonized in future. Iseee.

Let me analyse what most Igbo PDP affiliates do. They pray hard for Imo State to fail because Okorocha is in APC. Each time they are in Owerri and see the development, cleanliness and beauty, it pains them in the heart and they start looking for one fault or the other to over-emphasise on to feel good. It is indisputable that Owerri as a city is one of the most beautiful in Nigeria and the most modern in the Southeast by a wide margin. Modern in the sense that the buildings were erected mostly after 2000 unlike other places that have buildings of 70s,80s,90s en-mass. What these haters do is to find the remotest parts or any single fault to use and talk down Imo State. They are everywhere including twitter and facebook. Right now I have more than 500 pictures out of which I have unveiled only about 70 to 80. If Imo has as much bad roads as other States we won't have space to even say one word here. The bad roads or flooding pre-date the emergence of Okorocha and he has worked hard with the little funds to the amazement of these haters. Right from his 1st month, they termed all his projects abandoned.

Finally this thread though portrays much of Okorocha's contributions does not in any way insinuate that the beauty of Owerri is solely Okorocha's doing. That's a fallacy.

No matter how you tried to paint it, what you just wrote above smells of attempt at calling white black. Writing that Okorocha who is in almost every rural area in Imo with roads, schools, free education and hospitals is not impacting grassroots is lying to yourself. There is no basis for comparing Chime of 7years with Rochas of 3years. Chime has tried in his capacity but he didn't build 305 schools and he didn't build 27 modern standard hospitals and education is not free in Enugu either and other cities were not upgraded as done for Orlu and Okigwe.

Like I wrote earlier much has been done and a lot is left to be done. The World bank area which has had its challenges from time has not been transformed but a lot of factors including land dispute is inhibiting Government and private infrastructure in that area. IMHO, facing the rural areas is more important at the moment than World bank. Let the projects in the rural areas be completed 1st and in the next tenure, Umuguma people should try and be peaceful to get Government presence. Same with Ohaji people who are busy importing Dee gbam and Dee well into Imo State.

No doubt !!! This is a new road

Abagworo:

While it will be absurd to attribute everything in New Owerri to Rochas, it is rather wicked to say nothing was built by him despite seeing pictures of Hero's square area, Heros apartments, Ochiedike Road area, Multiple bridges linking old and New Owerri, Dee Sam road and dozens of new dual roads within New Owerri area which some are still under construction like the one I posted above. Let your conscience always be the judge. Owerri today is leaving the typical Nigerian looks and it takes a good leader to do that. Imo State has little resources to work with but someone did wonders with the little in less than four years and it is not limited to Owerri but all nooks and crannies of the State. A wise man will accept that much has been done while a lot is yet to be done but the improvement is very positive and rather miraculous to me.

Group Rates Imo Best State on Road Construction

By Anolu Vincent Senior Correspondent – Owerri

Imo has been voted the best state in road construction in the South East with its Joint Monitoring Committee recommended as a model in the attainment of quality roads through prudent management.

In its mid-term assessment report released in Enugu, a global performance group, “South East Democracy Watch (SEDW),” described the processes of award of contracts, monitoring and execution of roads in Imo State as the best not only in the South East but the entire federation.

National Coordinator of SEDW, Chief Emeka Nnamani, who read the report, disclosed that the 300 kilometres of asphalted roads in Imo were of the best quality, yet with “competitive cost”.

“We were amazed that while other governments were using between N40 million and N60 million to construct a kilometre of asphalted road, Imo used only N21 million and yet the quality is fantastic”, he submitted.

He said their investigation showed that the monitoring committee headed by Hon Stan Dara of Imo State House of Assembly was able to save the people of the state a whopping N12 billion from the exercise.

According to Nnamani, the activities of the committee had shown that when officials are diligent in the execution of their assigned roles, contractors always complied with laid down procedure.

Said he, “when we interviewed contractors, they confirmed that the committee members were always at their neck but that when once a job has been fully completed, payment was promptly made”.

He noted that the transparent manner the Stan Dara committee handled the road projects was responsible for the high quality job and speed with which they were executed.

He commended Gov. Rochas Okorocha for the wisdom in setting up the committee which he said has impacted positively on road construction in the state.

Chief Nnamani who said his group would write to other state governments in the South East to adopt the Dara committee as a model, urged the members to remain focused in their service to the people of the state.

He also announced that Anambra came second in the assessment, Enugu third, Ebonyi fourth while Abia came last.

Tinubu’s camp lines up three men for Buhari’s running mate

on October 20, 2014 / in News 7:40 am / Comments

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor

Associates of All Progressives Congress, APC leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu are lining up three possible running mates for Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) should the former head of state prevail in the forthcoming presidential nomination convention of the party.

BUHARI DECLARES: General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) declaring his intention to seek the All Progressives Congress, APC, nomination to contest next year’s presidential election yesterday.

The synergy between Team Buhari and the Tinubu camp was formally brought to public light last Wednesday when many of Tinubu’s political associates, including his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu got prominent presence at Buhari’s public declaration for the presidency in Abuja.

The three prospective running mates, according to Vanguard sources are Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a former commissioner in Lagos State, Senator Ajayi Borofice presently representing Ondo North in the Senate and Mr. Wale Edun, a former commissioner in Lagos State.

Two other choices in the consideration of Team Buhari, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and another former governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo were said to have been taken off the radar by the Asiwaju forces on account of political differences.

The intrigues in the relationship between Dr. Fayemi and Tinubu reached a crescendo last week when Tinubu absented himself from the commissioning of the Ekiti State Government Liaison House in Lagos.

On the scheduled day of the commissioning, the APC leader was said to have become invisible, sources close to the development told Vanguard, a fact that seemed to underline the increasing political disconnect between the once close men.

The projection of the three men, Borofice, Osinbajo and Edun by the Tinubu camp follows the rejection by the mainstream of the party of a Muslim-Muslim ticket that would have seen a Buhari- Tinubu ticket.

Sources say that Tinubu may have lately withdrawn himself to that fact and is now believed to be preparing himself to position his own man to be a possible number two man for the country.

The consideration of Osinbajo Vanguard learnt is based on the twin factors of his relatively clean character and respect in the Christian community. Osinbajo, who served as attorney general and commissioner for justice in the Tinubu cabinet has won a respectable image as a senior pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

He is said to be fairly close to Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the RCCG. Those rooting for him say that positioning him on the ticket would balance any insinuation on the country drifting towards an Islamic path as some critics of Buhari have sought to assert.

The consideration of Senator Borofice, it was learnt, was aimed at strategically breaking up the hold of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Ekiti/Ondo axis, where the PDP is presently known to have set its foothold.

“By bringing out Borofice, who is about the only APC senator elected official in the Ekiti/Ondo axis, we can push for presence in the two states given that the PDP is in control of those two states,” a close associate of Tinubu said at the weekend.

Edun, who is reported to be the third person under consideration served as commissioner of finance for the two terms Governor Tinubu between 1999 and 2007 and he is said to be in position to bring relative youth to a presidency under Buhari’s watch.

“Our consideration of Edun is on the need of young blood given that Buhari is now of age and would need, young savvy men to keep him in track,” a source said.

Both Osinbajo and Borofice were acclaimed at Buhari’s declaration. Edun’s presence at the event could not be confirmed at press time. One other prospective nominee, Senator Olurunnimbe Mamora Vanguard learnt was like Dr. Fayemi not being favourably considered by the Tinubu camp ostensibly because of his independent trait, which reportedly came to fore in the testy days leading to Governor Babatunde Fashola’s certification of a second term ticket in 2011. Mamora was also present at Buhari’s event.

You're wrong. The victory is not his but that of Imo people. Imo had never elected a popular candidate until the entrance of Okorocha which saw the end to few individuals choosing our leaders for us. It has come to stay as our political culture today that the people have the final say.

It is the same with Buhari winning in 2015. The level of joy in Nigeria will be unprecedented and all the people that looted and killed Nigeria will cease to dictate who leads us henceforth as the voice of the masses will start to matter.

America and England achieved that feat many years ago and that is why the people's choice rule.

Please stop being partisan and be rational. I was beginning to hold you in higher esteem until I saw your pathetic stunt in the Enugu thread and now this.

I'm going to say it again. It's barbaric and undemocratic to make a statue celebrate your own electoral victory. No matter the circumstances around it. I know most Nigerians aren't used to democratic thinking and thus it doesn't work well in our country but it's very despotic and outrageous to do this. If the people build one of you, that's fine, but if you build one in the glory of your own electoral victory it's not. You can like Rochas without pretending everything he does is just and right.

Again, if Obama, the first black president if a country built on slavery, made a statue to himself he would be impeached and the people would be outraged by such a despotic action. Why? because If you look at the people in the world today and recent history that have made statues to themselves

Mummar Ghaddaffi
Kim Jung Il and Kin Jung Un
Saddam Hussien
Joseph Stalin
Mao Tse Tsung
Vladmir Lenin
Rochas Okorocha

You will notice a pattern. Regardless of the circumstance of his election, it's a hideously barbaric and despotic act. I don't know why our people must be so crude and tactless in their bombast.
