I don't think folks in SS/SE will contemplate having two muslim rulers. Why not two Christian rulers and then watch as dozen new boko haram movements spring up. The Northern/Muslim hegemony has been broken and long may it remain so.

I'm getting the impression that many people think the elites divided the country into religious camps. This notion is largely flawed. The elites didn't, to a large extent, divide it rather the society drifted and evolved into bitter ethnic and religious camps.

Before we put the blame squarely on elites feet we need to take a look at other nations that have highly visible and defined differences. How are they faring? Are they also divided much like we are?

The elites are good at pauperizing the masses but that's more or less about it. To attribute all the bitter differences emanating from our different political and historical evolution to the elite is simply seeking for a scapegoat. Even the British knew we would not work so why are we blaming phantom elites for our un-bridgeable ethnic and religious bickering? Go to Spain, UK, China, India, CAR, Congo, Yemen, Indonesia, Philippine, even in the US Texas is always threatening to leave the Union. The list is endless.

Today we see the carnage going on in Ukraine and Chechen, Iraqi and Turkish Kurds at each other's throat - these are realities of modern nations that aren't really nations in true sense. Nigeria is not from another planet, we're part of humanity and as such we reason and act like the rest of mankind. Each time we wake up and read how ISIS beheaded this and that, or that a bomb exploded in Tel-Aviv or Baghdad we flinch. It reminds us of the threat our perceived enemies or opponents pose. Each time we mourn the loss of lives from Boko Haram insanity or Fulani cattle herders we flinch again. By the time we're through with soaking all these bad news whether true or fabricated we're half-way done or, sometimes, completely through with our desire to keep our camps from incursion from other camps. We become un-malleable to reason and even to the plight of our perceived opponents.

There's enough blame to go round but at the end of the day I believe its disingenuous to think that its only the elites that ruptured our oneness whereas the experience and news we got and continue to get has nothing to do with our un-bridgeable gulf. A nation is much like a living breathing being. It possesses memory and as such can tap from it. This sole reason is why a nation should do no wrong to a section of her population because once its done its done - the notion or sanctity of nationhood from that moment becomes violated, memory refuses to be erased, and things go downhill.

ratiken:

With the recent holier than thou attitude being put forward by Gov Fashola, It has become pertinent that we remind ourselves what manner of man he has been in the past 7.5 years.

1. It is on record that Tinubu is one of the most corrupt individual this country ever produced who went on an accumulation spree of every viable state asset. However, I wonder how a 'non corrupt' Fashola can seamlessly work with an extremely corrupt Tinubu for 8yrs without friction while they both accumulate all state assets to their personal names. Two cannot work together except they agree. It seems Tinubu accumulated more state resources under Fashola's tenure than his own tenure. One can categorically conclude that Fashola is either more corrupt than Tinubu or just a plain dummy/ foot soilder

2. There is still no justification to installing toll plazas on existing roads. The Lekki- Epe expressway that serves the fastest developing area of lagos state should have received fair and untolled attention but out of the dirtiness of heart of the corrupt duo of Fashola/ Tinubu.... it was tolled to their own company. When the masses trooped out to protest against it, Fashola's touts were unleashed on them even to the extent of death of a protester. If every state governor tolls roads which is a basic necessity like Fashola did..... ours would have been a mortgaged country

3. Till date, Fashola have refused to open up the state books to the public consistent with the Freedom of information bill adopted at the federal level. He has consistently and categorically refused to be accountable. For the records, LASG with monthly IGR and allocation of 29B and 19B respectively have managed approximately 4.5trillion in 7.5yrs. Unaccountability is the hallmark of irresponsible leadership.

4. How on earth can a sane governor deport non-indigenes within same country at the wee hours of the morning and dump them under a bridge. Every Nigerian indigene has the right to live in an part of the geographical location called Nigeria without a visa. It is also on record that this inhumane act have been carried out by just on governor in our history. .. which is Fashola. This act currently ranks as the highest breach of human rights in Nigeria.

5. Fashola adamantly approved a 1000% increase in the school fees rates for LASU students without any corresponding increase in wage rates. It took wide spread protest and unending strikes that forced the govt to its knee. This is the record increase of school fees in Nigeria and ranks the height of insensitivity

6. Lagos roads are repaired at 2billion/ km by the crony companies of Fashola/ Tinubu. Better roads are built allover the country at lesser rates. Height of lootocracy

The ease at which he criticizes the central govt without acknowledging any single achievement by same govt makes him a mere opposition figure who stands for nothing but mere propaganda.

Now I ask..... What are the highlights of Fashola's govt?
Lagos was a federal capital and Tinubu's govt was the height of hopelessness and such any any road repaired receives lots of hype. What key achievement would Fashola be remembered for?
Korrect

Just look at Yoruba politics. How many Christians have become governors in Yoruba states since 1998? Compare that to the number of muslims that have become governors.

Yorubaland is at least 60% Christian. Why are Christians not voting Christians into office? Have they being told to back down. Muslims seem to love the political power than the Christians.

Fashola is a bad leader. This is the same man who wanted to tax church donations but was stopped from carrying out the dastardly act.

Christians now feel inferior to muslims when they see muslims controlling things. Christians if you want to see Christian governors and officials in power vote for Christian candidates and don't vote for muslims.

You beat me to it.
The SW have more political influential muslim figures then christains, hence why they are always willing to align with the North who has more muslim political figures.

Even if the Sultan of Sokoto and Sanusi (the Emir of Kano) become President and Vice President of Nigeria respectively they cannot islamize Nigeria, yet for me Nigeria's problem is not just about who becomes the president as we are trying to present it. Many of us don't care about what is happening in our states, senatorial districts, LGA etc but we keep on shouting about the central govt as if the people in the other tiers of government are not there to do for the people at the local and state levels what we are demanding from the president at the Centre. I feel Nigerians should begin to give serious attentions to who becomes governor, Senator, LG Chairman etc in their States, Senatorial districts, LGA etc. Everybody is talking about who becomes President as if everything starts and ends with the president. Who told you that the dividents of democracy you looking from can not come from your state governor if the guy is set to work and not to loot. There are governors that didn't do anything tangible in their states for eight years and are now warming up for senate but nobody is talking about them. All we talk about is "Muslim/muslim ticket", "GEJ till 2019", "power must return to the north", "South-south must finish their 8 years", "Sai Buhari" etc as if whoever becomes President in 2015 will magically transform Nigeria down to our respective communities even if our governors, Senators, Rep members etc refuse play the roles.

Let me tell you something you people don't know, SS and SE HAVE SEALED THEIR DESTINY WITH JONATHAN. Even you adopt Mohammed/Jesus or Jesus/Mohammed, SE and SS will still vote GEJ 100%. Now let's do some analysis...half of Lagos population are SE and SS, the vote will be divided half and half, now Mimiko of Ondo just joined PDP, that state will go to PDP, Guy man of Ekiti Fayose will deliver Ekiti to PDP and most likely Akala or someone will win PDP and Oyo will deliver for PDP. Only Osun will tip towards APC. North central...Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Plateau and Kwara (all he needs is to have a meeting with Dr. Saraki; laugh, smile with him, give him oil block and assure him Kwara will forever belong to him as long as he is re-elected...he will not interfere in his state; he can run it like his private enterprise. Sarak will say really? GEJ is will say yes. Saraki will deliver Kwara for GEJ). Now, Adamawa; all the politics going on there lately you think it's movie, this is a well engineered plan by PDP to gobble up that state. Kaduna will go for PDP, so will Gombe. Bauchi and Kebbi with PDP governors and GEJ supporters will go PDP, Jigawa will go PDP...Sule Lamido just need a little love, will deliver Jigawa for PDP. Modu Sheriff is likely to join PdP and will split the vote in Borno with his followers...Northerners vote with followers; that's something unique about them. Same will happen in Kano as Supporters/followers of Shekarau will split Kano vote, at least by 40% for PDP. Ibrahim Shema of Katsina will deliver PDP. The only two Northern states that will be difficult for swing are Zamfara and Sokoto...these are core northern states. Zamfara will support whoever APC/ACN pick....Must be a northerner. For Sokoto, the governor is immensely grassroot, self-made and stubborn. He is a PDP, though with the exit of Tukur whom he swore never to have anything to do with, he is more likely to work with Muazu and deliver PDP. A lot of people don't understand that Atiku is a planted Aspirant by GEJ in APC to cut down northern votes...trust me, Atiku is in cohorts with GEJ. He did this in the last election...his supporters ended up voting for GEJ. As I said earlier, northerners vote in line with someone they follow irrespective of party or candidate.

Lastly, reading a lot of these posts here, I think a lot of SWs have this Utopian idea that SW still belongs to APC/ACN; it may in the minds of SWs, but in reality it now belongs to PDP...I'm speaking factually now...Ekiti is PDP, Ondo is PDP, Oyo will likely go PDP, Jonathan just dashed Aregbesola Osun to salivate the people tongues so that when he gobble up Ogun and Oyo, people will say it's also free and fair like Osun...politics 101. Come 2015, All SW states except Osun and maybe Lagos will remain APC/ACN; Lagos could swing to PDP If they present a good, solid candidate like late Funsho Williams that will yield supports of yorubas and non yorubas...Obanikoro has strong support and base. So technically its all PDP as Lagos vote will most likely be divided half if it remains under APC/ACN. Very unfortunate that a lot of SWs here don't know what's happening in their backyard. You people clamoring for Buhari/Fashola, let me tell you something you don't know, Nigerian elites...IBB, Gowon, Atiku, governors; present and past, Banks CEOS, Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga, e.t.c.; WILL NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER want to see Buhari smell the presidency. Trust me...with Buhari in there, they are going to jail and they know it. I love Buhari and Fashola but Nigeria politics is played in Nigerian way...give and take!

So ladies and Gentlemen, save this post and I assure you 100%, my analysis will be the reality and GEJ will be re-elected come 2015]

No we have voted for christians as governor and let down. Oyinlola Osun state was a christian, Alao Akala of Oyo was a christian. Ondo, Ekiti are core christian states. Lagos is ruled by Fashola.

We Yorubas dont reason through our anus. We vote for change. I voted for Aregbesola after considering what Oyinlola a christian did to my state.

Are you a supporter of APC? If you are not you may go for PDP that has a christian/moslem ticket.

I will cast my vote for GEJ is the choice is Buhari. But if APC fields Fashola, Ribadu, Utomi, Fayemi, etc - I will vote for APC. I will not vote for Muslim-Muslim ticket and certainly will not vote for any man that has openly supported the implementation of Sharia nation-wide.

I can count how many body-bags I saw from sharia implementation during OBJ's tenure. I'm speaking from what I saw not what I was told - my innocence as a youth was shattered by the Sharia in the north and its reprisal in the EAST.

How a supposedly national leader would support such evil, knowing the edge Nigeria was on, is beyond me. It only explains that such leader is a dangerous and sectional individual that's no better than Milosevic and his likes. If APC fields Atiku I might consider him - might, no guarantees. My reason is simple: during Sharia crisis Atiku stood up and demanded it be stopped, but Buhari went with northern Islamic flow. In fact, not only will I not vote for Buhari I shall go the extra length of sponsoring, inducing, and remorselessly campaigning for a separate state for my people should Buhari wins.

The Muslim believe that they will rule the world in their foolishness(they will convert the whole world to Islam)
In Nigeria, the northern Muslim believed that the western Muslims are semi infidel, they don't allow them to lead in prayer,
they also believed that it's their right to rule over and exploit the complete infidel( the southern Nigerian people) and kill them at will if they resist,
their primary mission is to convert the whole Nigeria to their almighty demon Alla, they believed that the western Nigerian people are their political slaves and can be use successfully for any political mission, they believed that it's their right to rule Nigeria and their right to decide who will or can rule and the person must be subject to their control, what is going on now is that they are in a mission to return the power to the north in order to enable them accomplish their Islamic mission for Nigeria ( to convert Nigeria to Muslim Nation)
many western Nigerian people know this truth but they can't help because as slaves of the north they don't have any choice than to obey their master, they know that power in the hand of a northerner will not do Nigeria any good, they know that the north have been controlling Nigeria for over 40yrs of Nigerian existence and are not able to do any good to Nigeria, they know that their quest for power is not for good but to only accomplish Islamic mission of turning Nigeria to a SHARIA state
