my sister in law had the same problem and after she sent the embassy an email, they said she should cancel the appointment and reschedule and still she can not edit the ds 160. let me know if you are able to resolve it. because you have a limit to which you can cancel and reschedule.

You cannot edit a submitted ds 160 form, u can retrieve it and update which will generate another ds-160 confirmation number. The issue is that the new confirmation number will be different from that on your profile and appointment letter. To edit one's profile is the issue. I sent an email and got response as follows:

Hello Sir/Ma,

I have booked an appointment with my Ds-160 confirmation number (xxxxx). However, I just realised that I filled in a lower monthly income (net monthly income) instead of gross monthly income.
Please advice on how I can update the information on my application without resheduling my interview appointment.

I understand that updating my application will generate a new Ds-160 confirmation number that will be different from that on my appointment letter.

I got a notification mail saying from Dec 1, 2014, applicants that do not have the correct DS-160 number on their appointment letter will be turned back.

Please advise on what to do as my interview is xxxxx.

Regards,
xxxxx

***RESPONSE***

Dear XXXXX,

Thank you for writing to the U.S. Visa Service Desk.

With regards to your query, please note that you will not be able to retrieve and modify information in the DS160 application once it is completed. If you wish to correct and/or update information, please disregard the old DS160 application and create a new application, then bring the new DS160 confirmation page at the time of interview. You can access the DS160 form in the website https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

If you created a new DS160 application with existing appointment, you do not need to cancel their appointment and/or update the DS160 confirmation number in your appointment profile. Just follow the instructions provided above.

Please make sure that the DS-160 barcode number in your profile on www.ustraveldocs.com matches with the barcode number on your DS-160 documents. The Consulate will not permit you to enter or be interviewed, and you will be responsible for rescheduling your appointment on another day, if they do not match.

Yours sincerely,
U.S. Visa Service Desk.

Their response is very confusing. I don't know if it is possible to send the new confirmation number to the support desk to update one's profile and appointment letter.

SisiOlu:

Their response is very confusing. I don't know if it is possible to send the new confirmation number to the support desk to update one's profile and appointment letter.

This little insight I have on this. For interview dates before December 1st,2014 i.e from January to November 2014, it is possible to edit an already filled DS160 form while still using the appointment date that you already booked. So it means you could go for your interview with 2 different numbers on your appointment page and DS160 page.

However, there is a new policy which requires you to book another appointment and fill another DS160 form if you want to effect any change after December 1st. Which means they now require you to have the same number on your DS160 and appointment confirmation. You can't edit your profile on the appointment confirmation.

And about the income declaration, you are supposed to declare your net income after tax so you ain't far from the actual thing. The help desk cannot help you fill your form. The options open to you Is what I have written above. So you might as well leave your form the way it is or else you will schedule a new appointment and pay new fees.

Hi Mimibe,
Congratulations on the birth of your LO.
I am particularly interested in your bill because you had a boy and i want to confirm if Gwinnett has a max bill of $3,600 like we have been told here.Did you circumcise?Did you have Epidural? If Yes,was that prepaid or you paid after the service? How many days did you spend in the hospital?
i am guessing Dr Oduro did it?how much was his fee for that?Is Dr Oduro Nigerian?just wondering randomly because of his name(not an important info)? At this junction, you will be able to tell us the total fees for Dr Oduro since you are done with him.please what did it come to?
If i may correct you, what you received at home is a birth notification not a birth certificate, you go to pick up your BC and you pay a fee for it
Since you are in ATL, you can also get a Nigerian passport instead of a visa. Its cheaper and has a longer duration
Please keep us posted and rest as much as you can

Hi, just saw your msg now, been so busy with my LO, oduro is a ghanian, his total bill was $2150, excluding the circumcision, which is $250, hospital bill was $3,433 after discount for me my LO was taken to NICU, so his bill came up to $5k or there abt, so other bill came from neonatal pedritrician, cardiologist, which can to $2k gwinnett bill is not straight forward at all. I think anyone that want to birth in ATL, should use northside or Emory, fixed price of $3,500.

Hi iyawotobe it's only been a week since I had my baby so I only want to get on the county website today to check if his bc is ready or not, it as well as the SSN was filed for at the hospital the day after I put to bed and I was officially told it takes 6-8wreks but from other pple's experiences, the bc should be out in less. So I can only give you that much info about the documentation process but nevertheless, I'm expecting to smooth sail through it as I have garnered the step by step process of what comes after what from previous posts on the forum and other moms I met at Intown suites.
Talking bout Intown suites, the accommodation is ok considering the circumstances. I'm here with my mum and hubby just came to join us after I had baby and do far, so good I guess. It's generally a safe living place and really quiet and apart from some guests with really serious smoking habits, I think it's an ok place.plus there are always lots of other NAija mums n dads around so company is almost never in lack.
Some of the challenges I have personally encountered will be the transportation system. Luckily there are lots of stores around Intown like Walmart, Burlington, Ross, Payless and food places as well within walking distance but if you have to go to other stores and places in town, it's gotta be a cab and the meter rates are usually not smiling. Good thing the hospital is also close by but when it comes to processing baby's documents, it's mostly downtown which is quite a distance from Intown.
I hear ramada suites are nicer but I chose Intown cos its cheaper than ramada.
Hope I've been able to answer all ur questions.m

@ babe16. Am currently in Dallas, I flew inn over a week now and Av been searching for hospital and obgyn. Today I had my first visit in Dr Dennis Abbas office who usually delivers at Doctor's Hospital, white lake. He charges $2400 and hospital is about $3000 for normal delivery. The doctors charge include all the tests and sonogram. Like I am a rhesus negative and they are not charging extra fee for my anti d Rogan injection. You can google him and make your decision.

@Mrsfad2014 Do you have a breakdown of the hospital fee of $3,000, the fee quote for CS (both Doctor and Hospital) and other charges that are not disclosed here. My wife is also heading to Dallas in late December. Also, kindly share Dr. Abbass email address if you have it. Is he a Nigeria?

She should also go with doctors coresponde o, and enough cash o.

Thanks @ Babatwi. She wrote to them and they responded. see response below. Thanks for the assistance.

Thank you for your email.

There is no legal requirement to inform us that you are seeking medical treatment in the United States. The Customs and Border Protection, a branch of USCIS, determines a traveler’s eligibility of entry to the U.S, you should be prepared to demonstrate to the immigration officer at the port of entry why you are seeking medical treatment and that you have logistical and financial plans for the treatment.

We recommend that you review the regulations on non-immigrant aliens entering the United States for purposes of childbirth at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/882/~/visit-the-u.s.-while-pregnant-and-the-risks-involved and plan accordingly. Please you should not stay in the U.S. longer than you are permitted by Customs and Border Protection at the port of entry. The Department of Homeland Security at the port of entry will determine your eligibility to enter the United States on any travel.

If you choose to give birth in the U.S., we advise you to bring evidence of payment, both when you enter the U.S. on this visit, and at your future U.S. visa interviews.

Hello Tvegas,

Can you clarify on your source of confirmation of the above information. I say this because I applied with net monthly income and was denied.Part of my denial reasons i believe was because of my income. i researched this further after denied and even mailed the embassy on what they require in this income field and they responded in a general manner with no specifics. On my research, i found on US embassy official pages such as Mexico ,dubai and I think Indian that the citizens should input gross monthly income before some certain deductions

So I would be really be interested in your source as I my wife would be re-applying soon

Hello Tvegas,Can you clarify on your source of confirmation of the above information.
It's a personal opinion because you don't go home with tax, you only take home your disposable income. Gross or net income isn't something to worry over because the tax amount is minimal. But if gross income makes you more comfortable use it. Like I told you before there are no hard and fast rule to establishing financial ties. Cheers.

Thanks bro but only if you knew how much tax I pay, you go know say , e dey significant in some cases not to even come put in pensiongrin
I was praying you were not going to tell me your source was US embassy.

I am planning to use gross for my next application as I even tried to research the general view of monthly income via Google and the feedback i received was that when not explicitly stated such as net or gross, what is usually required is the gross monthly income as this includes money you are entitled to access in some circumstances such as pensions ,housing funds etc. you can even get rebates for taxes sef

A colleague of mine used gross monthly for application and got visa with this. and also a friend based in the US advised i used gross since not explicitly stated

Well , enuf of my story. thanks for the clarification bro

Hello everyone!! This is Phema reporting live from Phoenix, AZ!! grin. How are y'all doing? I don miss una wella kiss. From the newbies to the "question answerers" to the groundnut eaters. grin Sorry I've not been participating actively for awhile now. Didn't have much going anyways, so there wasn't much to say.

Got into Phoenix tuesday night (Phoenix time). Flew BA and POE was Phoenix. Infact, make I start this gist from the beginning. . . grin

I flew from Lag and the experience with those Immigration officers wasn't bad at all. I already prepared not to tip any body, so didn't go with any naira. My big belle was all the "egunje" they needed. I weighed all my bags at home before setting out. So I didn't have any that was past the 23KG limit. I made sure of that. The lady that weighed my bags was surprised both were 23KG on the dot. grin

Then I got to the people that search bags. They were quite courteous and barely searched my bags. One of them helped my take the boxes to the check in counter. Checked in and was asked for my fit to fly. I gave dem a copy and they filed it. I chose my seat online, so i had my boarding pass ready.

We were two preggers that planned our trip together so it was not so exhausting or boring cos we had each other's company. We requested for wheelchair services for Heathrow during check in at MMA1. Didn't even know that could be done. So, the officer included it on our boarding passes. Preggers with layover should try and request for it. It turned out to be a life saver at Heathrow.

Like Tvegas advised, we didn't queue at immigration in Lagos. We used the fast lane and they gave us priority treatment till we got to the boarding gate. Everything went so smoothly without any hassles or delays. All we did was put on our "preggy faces" and behaved like we were going to pass out, or worse still, go into labour if we had the minutest of all hassles. Lol

We boarded at the right time. No delays whatsoever. Got to Heathrow and waited to be driven to the terminal where we would be connecting to the US. While others walked and were asking for direction, all we did was present our boarding passes. The driver knew exactly what to do and where to take us. So we were driven to go sit at a very comfy and warmer place to wait for our connecting flight. The experience was awesome. Everyone gave "wheelchair" passengers priority treatment. We didn't have to bother about sleeping off and missing our flights cos they would always call your name when it's time for you to board. Time came and they drove us to the boarding gate. We didn't join the queue. We were the first set of passengers to board. Yea yea, we are special like that. grin smiley

Now to POE. . .

Do u tink that wld suffice at d poe without the receipt frm d hosp?pls I'm open to ur suggestions. Thanks.

We got to Phoenix at about 6.38pm. Not so busy airport with very calm atmosphere. The officers were very friendly. This time, we joined the queue. I got called up to meet one female officer and the following ensued. . .

Officer: Good evening
Me : Evening Ma'am
Officer: What are you doing in the US?
Me: Came to have my baby
Officer: Looked very surprised and said "Say that again Ma'am"
Me: I retorted in my very igbotic accent " I came to have my baby" grin
She called on another male officer and narrated what I told her. The male officer smiled and said "that's fine, as long as she's got the cash". Asked how much I had, I said 9k5. He nodded, smiled and said "hope you know you can come with much more money running into millions". I said, I'm aware and that I had more in my master card (which was a lie though, cos shishi no gum my account) tongue. For my mind, I say, see this thief. No be only millions of Dollars. I tell you say na human beings I dey sell? cheesy. Then he left and I continued with the female officer.
Officer: What do you and hubby do back home?
Me: Told her
Officer: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No Ma'am. This is my first time.
Officer: How did you get to know about the hospital?
Me: I did an extensive research online and found this hospital that suits my budget and need.
Officer: Do you have any agricultural products or Food?
Me: Yes ma
Officer: Have a safe delivery Ma. Stamped me in for 6months

Picked my bags and headed out. The secondary/agricultural inspection people stopped us and asked what we came to do. We told them and they asked which of us will be having the baby. We said both of us and they laughed and said "two pregnant friends expecting at almost same time, did you two plan it?". We all laughed. They counted our money, asked same questions the immigration people asked. Repeated we could bring in more money if we wanted and all we needed do was to declare it. Asked how much for the hosp bills and we said $5,400 (the reviewed price). One of them said "yea, i heard they have reviewed it upwards".

Was asked to pass our bags through the scanner. We did. The man at the other end opened one if mine, did a little search and said i was free to go. I was cabashing cos that was same bag I had my precious palm oil. grin . Fortunately, the man didn't notice cos I packaged it wella that it looked likeo one imported Chinese food. Lol

My friend's chopped fried beef was seized though. She was told it was prohibited. The thing pain us eeehh, cos we been don plan how to use am take do sharp jollof rice on getting to the hotel room. grin

No document was asked for and the officers were quite professional and friendly.

Tips and lessons learnt

-Most foods are allowed. All you need do is dry them properly. I went with any and everything you can think of. Apart from meat. My friend even came with fried snail. They saw it and didn't flinch. Just dry or fry them and make sure your beans does not have any weavle or insects.

-Know exactly what you are doing and be armed with info as regards your trip. It helps to be very confident and not look ill prepared at any point.

-Do not go with a heavy hand luggage. I will advise you have a very small shoulder purse where you can put your money and phones. And then a small carry-on rollable/trolley bag for other items. This is easier to move with as all u need do is roll. I went with a bag I couldn't roll and had to carry on my shoulders all through. If not for the wheelchair services, e for no funny at all.

-For bush people like moi that donot like airline food, please go with snacks in your hand luggage. I had bread, biscuits, plantain chips, coconut chips, meat pie, sausage roll, doughnut etc. These came in handy during the whole trip especially during my 9hr lay over at Heathrow. Just kept requesting for juice, water and drinks and was jejely eating my snacks. They managed to serve us what looked like jollof rice on our Lag - Heathrow leg. As the saying goes "if e no be panadol, e no fit be like panadol" grin

-Request for wheelchair services if you are far gone and will be transiting at a busy and huge airport. You will be glad you did.

-Weigh your bags before leaving the house. It helps to avoid unnecessary hitches.

-If you can, plan your trip together with a friend who will be due at almost same time. Not only does it kill boredom, it also reduces cost as both if you will go for appointments together, shopping and all. Reduces cab fare by half.

Will update as I remember. . .

-Most foods are allowed. All you need do is dry them properly. I went with any and everything you can think of. Apart from meat. My friend even came with fried snail. They saw it and didn't flinch. Just dry or fry them and make sure your beans does not have any weavle or insects.

Will update as I remember. . .

Nice one @phema....congrats on that POE...wish all expectant mum same...wish you safe delivery of your American baby...
