what are the affordable and reliable ways of receiving gifts from UK or US here in Dubai?

DHL and the likes are above my budget.

From U.K, use Parcel Monkey. Their rates and charges will blow ur mind. The parcel will be picked up by them amd delivered via DHL most likely. U will however have to do the boxing, measurements, etc urself. Everything will be done online. They can deliver within 3-5 days.
As for U.S, the cheapest option I know of is the post office. May take some days depending on many factors but I'm certain that parcels meant for these parts from the U.S goes to Dubai first. From there, they sort for other countries around. Give it about 2 weeks

Go with DrDre thats the Cheapest or you call Aramex Courier on 600 544000.

Got a package from US lastweek in Dubai. It took 10days to get here, it was sent through priority mail from US to my office P.O Box Addres.

NOTE: Make sure you include P.O Box No. not only address else Dubai Customs will send your package back to where it came from even when your mobile number is boldly written on the package, no one will call you.

Get the tracking number and call Emirates Post on 600 599999, after a week call and ask them to track your package if it has arrived Dubai. If they say yes, then forward match with your Emirates ID to Al Karama Post Office, Present your ID you will be charged i think 6 Dirhams or thereabout before your Parcel is scanned and handed over to you.

No need for Yellow card.

First if your passport is Virgin, make sure you hold like #1,000 for those Immigration guys because they won't smile with you at all, they will even request for 100 Dollars cheesy, Make sure you have your hotel booking, thats another avenue they ouse to extort money from first timers.

Make sure you have your BTA and Credit card with you to show them in case. But hotel booking is very important to avoid any delay from those hungry immigrations you will meet.

If it fits into your budget you could wrap up your vacation with a half day trip into the desert to ride camels and go four wheel driving. Your hotel can organize that for you.

At night consider going to the gold souk even if you don't buy anything, it's incredible to stroll around and witness bartering and the hundreds of stores, if you haggle you'll surely get a good bargain.

At Dubai mall which you can definitely spend a whole day at, make sure to catch the Dancing Fountain shows which begins after 6pm I believe. The wafi gourmet on the promenade offers good views over a traditional Arabic meal.

However, we would advise you stay close to the metro. You get to spend less on transportation if you use the metro. Ensure your hotel is close to a metro station.

You can get the metro cards at any station and also use it to visit any of the malls. The metro saves you on a lot except you are on a very fat budget then you can even go ahead to book those taxis or better still, call a cab anytime you want to go out.

You should definitely shop in Deira (things are cheaper in this area) but try to avoid fellows Nigerians hanging around. Am sure you know why.

You can visit the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Marina Mall, Ibn Battuta Mall etc. In some cases, you might have a tour agency attached to your hotel.

Take the big bus tour of Dubai, the starting point is at the Deira city centre. You can also buy your Desert Safari ticket from them as well as

the Wild Wadi Water Park at a much discounted price.

Whatever you do, do not miss Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates! grin It is sure gonna be a fantastic experience if you try it. Another place is the Atlantis (The Lost Chambers) which has a beach nearby. Your kids would sure love this, if you are going with your kids.

For African food, you can visit African Home Restaurant at the Mezanine floor Al Hili Hotel on Al Sabka road Deira. They also have a branch

near California Hotel Naif Deira or better still my best African Restaurant is at Bur Dubai called KIZA LOUNGE,very conducive, classy and also free from the whole up and down market noise and too many Nigerian ish..... wink

You can also visit Dragon Mart at the International City, a Chinese mall with very cheap stuff. You should also try the Karama Market for cheap designer replica that most boutiques in Nigeria sell.

Here is a picture of Ski at Mall of Emirates....Its fun smiley smiley

Thanks for this. I'm going with my wife for a visit in two weeks. Will $1000 be enough for both of us? We're spending just 4 days. Hotel and flight has been booked already. What exactly is BTA? Do Naira dominated cards work at the ATM?

Your BTA is Basic Travel Allowance.

$1000 is around 4000 Dirhams which is okay for 4days provided you ain't gonna shop or maybe just few items and no tour because thats gonna drain your BTA if you are on a tight budget.

African meals for each person ranges from 20 Dirhams to 30 Dirhams around Deira (Rice or Semovita) smiley

Yes your Naija ATM can work here but not on all machines so you just test them on several machines to know the bank that will accept it. As for firstbank(Noor bank,Rak bank) accepts the ATM anyday.

Thanks a lot. I can always increase the money I'm taking along. Do I buy dollars or can I get a place to change my naira if I go with naira? Lastly, how much is expected to be my BTA?
Sorry for all the questions. I just don't want to be taken unawares.

It's not easy like many other jobs. You'll be competing with other nationalities who might be considered before you. It's also about selling yourself well to the prospective employers.

I guess so. But you'll have to live in shared accommodation with that amount.Besides you can move on to something with a better pay probably after a year or two with 'GCC' experience. Don't limit yourself. Some sales jobs pay better. I believe there was a time du telecom mobile was offering 3000 aed as salary for their sales position. Maybe it's even more now or less .....with Dubai you never know.

Let me just add that you can't live a luxury life with that salary. Dubai in particular is an expensive city. Its going to be tough mate surviving. Is it worth leaving what you have now and coming over here

From my calculation, it pays off to be there... M a graduate that has been on 45k job over a year, I can only save 20k/month with so much work stress. Av also learned to live a low-key life. I can do well with a job of 90k ovadia which I can move onto somtin better later. M also open to business ideas which I can do from there... My coming back home will be to establish after some years if I don have the capital.

Hey Man, yeah I already did, thanks lots. I have subscribed to some sites online. Anyways u didn't answer my question of "where u applying to hospitals ith intent of sponsorship?" or u applied normally and they suggested it to you.
Also, I hear there is a doc that's needed from MOH to start the licensure exam thingy, please help confirm, as I might have to sponsor myself.
Thanks a lot

If you are hardworking and have plans, you can make it as long as Accommodation and Transport will be provided. You can still save like #50,000 every month from your salary that's it.
