I think you have some points there, but you cannot ignore the activities of these traders and how they are the ones making the dangotes going forward. Without distributors I dont think dangote will make a headway. However, the activities of these traders have kept them business and that is why they should be called businessmen, cos from their activities money change hands, as well continues to alleviate poverty among them. Though, they might not be involved in all the places you mentioned but the fact remains that they are directly or indirectly in the equation and hence their relevancy in the economy of Nigeria! And moreover, most of these "top businessmen" who are into manufacturing started like the ones in Ladipo, so they are businessmen, that is the way I see it.
That is the beauty of democracy everyone has their say

I heard d Oba tendered an apology 4 wt he said. We Nigerians r takin ds 2 far, esp d Igbos in Lag.
we have been taking shit from almost every tribe so long a time, if we dont react this way someone else will say worse another time or go as far as taking action on his threats. this has to stop. shay you can hear your fellow yoruba boys fuelin the issue here. thats what we are talking about, they preach one nigeria but they dont do what they preach.
fact is an ibo man can survive the most extreme conditions, we never had an ibo man lead this country but yet we dont complain, we go about our business happily. as long as their is life an ibo man will find a way out with or without any tribe. eliminate the ibos in this country and watch how its economy will die. as a final note we need each other in this country, i cant remember an ibo king or even politician say hurtful words to any tribe because of politics. we are always quiet to avoid the haters, but yet de find a way

not in the north but in the south.
Yoruba are so accommodating, you think this recent drama can happen in the north without your so called "fearless" blood been shed.

Stop beating your chest and forming superman.

One Nigeria
say no to tribalism
Can you fight an igbo man one on one mr bloodshed ? Not in a million years. Now you're even dead in your very north. You will all soon be running down south in years to come. You're only displaced yet you haven't seen nothing.

Pls the yorubas should emulate the north and stop making mouth like their mad king

See what a whole Oba has caused now in this Lagos. Truly some people are not meant to be where they are now if Ambode loses this election APC should hold this Oba fully responsible for his unwarranted utterance. If you want to solicit for the vote of a people must you use threat like all those area boys do to obtain peoples property. Nobody can force another to vote against there will and Lagos is a home for all Nigerians because this place was the federal capital and a lot of people have built there investments here.

Aside the excessive audacity which breeds arrogance and pride with Igbos, This is the part i like about Igbos...Everything is business...let truth be told. Igbos are way ahead in business in Nigeria.

I entered Ladipo market one day and couldnt find one shop owned by a Yoruba man in the two hours i spent there. I think business is genetic for them. can you remember the ''my oga at the top stuff'' while some of us typed on the internet, Aba boys were thinking business. Mbaka spoke against GEJ, few days after, (Mbaka but why T. shirt was all over the market). They seem not interested in white collar jobs like every other tribe. If we have more entrepreneurs, the faster we come out of the corruption in public and civil service.

When i finished NYSC, i was retained in the bank with one Emeka boy..I remember during the interview, one of the panelists said, Emeka, you are supposed to be in Aba or Alaba, what are you doing here? the Igbo jokingly said, its capital am looking for..six years after, the Igbo boy resigned, we never knew he was combining banking with real estate business..on saturdays he was a house searching agent. he told me he sold two houses in Ikoyi and resigned...

Till i left the bank, his salary account was in millions...doing so well in business, the latest he told me last year was that, one of the panelists in that our interview is now his account officer...I just love the business part of them and maybe the way they adore their wives and children. They take family very seriously. Emeka is so wealthy and lavishes his wealth on his wife and 3 boys. Needless to say he inspired me into business and i am doing well too, but not anywhere near Emeka.

Throw them into the Lagoon and see the potentials of that water developed by them.

1st he sold yoruba right to Speaker to a fulani, not so?

Now he has sold us again to the fulanis. I hope he will not end up like the other Aares before him like, SL Akintola, MKO Abiola who did similar alliances like Afonja.

Please point out where I said he was RIGHT about supporting Jonathan in 2011

I PITY SOME IBO BROTHERS.ONE WOULD THINK THEY CAN DO SISI WHEN THEY ARE BEING LYNCHED BY THEIR HOST COMMUNITIES.There was an incident that happened in my presence at Coker Village in Lagos. Two yoruba guys-home boys-alighted from a bike,I think the Ibo man was the rider, all of a sudden one of the Yoruba boys began to hit the rider seriously that the rider had to run for his dear life onto the other side of the road saying some kind of Ibo words. Some Ibo people came to his rescue as he was biting his finger and shaking his head and murmuring to himself.Alas, his brothers that came to his rescue were only able to console him as the two Yoruba boys walked away...I felt bad and then remember that some of these our Ibo brethrens according to an Hausa man know only lynching then they will fear you as they fear the Hausa people but does a tribe has to hit or maim the other tribe before the discernible amongst them would warn their fellow kinsmen...?

while you are laughing, kindly educate me on how Otedola began in business and how he made his money... and where he was in 1999 before OBJ.

Bros, I believe that Omonnakoda has already replied you on this point. In case you have forgotten, here is his response again:

omonnakoda::

Please do not talk stupidly .Try to comprehend before talking. One of the biggest businesses in the world Walmart is made of stores so I am not speaking against stores as a business. If you do not understand that that is not my problem. Trading however is different from a business. Everyone knows that Dangote started as a trader so spare me the sermon. The fact is not all traders are businessmen. There is a huge difference between the two which your Ladipo brethren have not grasped. We are talking of a scrap market selling parts of dismembered vehicles and FAKE parts.

SERIOUS BUSINESSMEN DO NOT SELL FAKES. That is the difference. A serious businessman does not seek to exploit you today and damn the consequences. He wants to build a REPUTATION

What we have in Ladipo is a hybrid of criminality and "trading" selling butchered stolen vehicles and laundering drug money such things do not grow into Walmarts or Microsoft.Ask yourself this question.; Alaba market has been there for over 30 years why have they not progressed to manufacturing. Why have they not grown to the size wher they can offer warranties as you get in places like South Africa. The Eboes in Ladipo are in competition and do no wish to see each others progress and so you will never see them come together to form a joint venture or company. Bil Gates today owns less than half or Microsoft ditto for Wal Mart and the Walton family.

Do you folk think we are that silly that we don't know these traders by day are armed robbers and drug dealers by night. That many of these stores are fronts for drug money? We know how to deal with you ruthlessly but are accommodating. There are laws that allow government to confiscate unexplained wealth or proceeds of crime. We are tolerant but your boastful nature can push saints to villainy

But since you need more information on Femi Otedola the Chairman of Forte Oil Plc, here it is. It also mentions what he was doing in 1999.

http://www.forteoilplc.com/f/board_of_directors/PROFILE%20OF%20DIRECTORS.pdf

PROFILE OF DIRECTORS

MR. FEMI OTEDOLA, CON - Chairman

He was appointed the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Forte Oil Plc (formerly known as African Petroleum Plc) on May 25, 2007. Mr. Otedola attended the famous London College of Printing from where he bagged a Diploma in Printing Technology in 1985. He then took over as the Managing Director of Impact Press Limited in 1988, growing the company into one of the foremost printing presses in Nigeria at that time.

In 1999, he ventured into the Oil and Gas sector by incorporating Zenon Petroleum & Gas Limited, an indigenous company engaged in the procurement, storage, marketing and distribution of petroleum products. In 2001, he incorporated Seaforce Shipping Company Limited which currently owns and manages modern tanker fleet of vessels that transport petroleum products. Mr. Otedola is today the President and Chief Executive Officer of Zenon Petroleum & Gas Limited; Chairman, Seaforce Shipping Company Limited, Atlas Shipping Agency
Company Limited, F. O. Transport Limited, F.O. Properties Limited, Swift Insurance Brokers Limited and Garment Care Limited.

Mr. Otedola, a former President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, and the immediate past Chairman of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was appointed member of the governing council of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council (NIPC) in January 2004, and in December of the same year, he was appointed a member of the committee saddled with the task of fostering business relationship between the Nigerian and the South African Private sectors. Mr. Femi Otedola was further recognized for his immense contributions to the growth of
the Nigerian economy when in May, 2010 he was awarded the prestigious National Honours of “Commander, Order of the Niger - CON” by President Goodluck Jonathan.
