Well, i want to use this medium to testify...
I used to have a very high spending rate (still do) but have been able to reduce it although not to the extent i would like.
Some 3months ago, i had to check and balance my life and found out my extravagant lifestyle was becoming way too much and leading me no where because i had no savings . I realized i was an impulsive buyer who bought shoes and bags just because they were fine withouth thinking . So i said to my self. Enough! I want to testify that i have reduced the price of my hairdo... from btw 7k and 10k to 3.5k(strictly for the past 3months) and i even looked better in the hairstyles i made. i only bought a wristwatch and one gown i couldn't resist for the past 3months.
I have also reduced my junk food strictly home made food and fruits...(although i still buy lots of drinks from shoprite that are not good for my health). I have not gotten to where i want to be but i am happy with myself and look forward to this month's expenditure christmas chai! God. Help me. Amen!!!

the major problem of an average Nigerian is inability to manage money . the schools only taught us skills needed to b a professional but not how to harness power of money. you can b earning 80k plus n live better than someone earning 150/ 200/ month.

70k per month is a lot for food oh, if your combined salary is 140k, you cannot spend 70k on food haba. By the time you set up for the month by buying bags of rice beans etc I see no reason why a family of 3 would spend more than 40k on food.

I wonder when Nairalanders will start answering questions based on the topic......its stated here a salary of 80k the wife is not inclusive so lets assume the wife is not working....from my own perspective its possible to settle down with that amount but it depends on the couples.if the wife is not the competitive type that will always measure up with other colleagues yes it can work for them if also they can minimize their expenditures and invest with their little saving...one thing we dont seems to get in life is that if you dont make a move you might not achieve anything.

To be honest the wife of a man earning 80k monthly has no business not working that would be daft will she just sit down Yakata. She need to be doing SOMETHING to be bringing in an income. Whether it's hair braiding oo, (needs no capital to start), tailor(can be done from home), petty trading, etc etc

we are on the same page. Its a very bad habit and sometimes I feel liked someone cursed me. Anyways starting from December I'm going to save more and cut several unnecessary spending..

You didn't sound that way in your initial post. You made it seem like 80k was something you could blow under an hour on anything. Anyways, what good and services are you paying 80k on when you know you earn 80k per month?

One can actually marry with 80,000 a month salary, but I am damn sure the marriage will not last 2 years if that Salary is not increased. You have to factor in rent, electricity bills, gas bill, transportation to/fro work, money for condom (considering no kid is welcomed yet), brazilian hair for new wife, DSTV bill has just gone high, money set aside for Blood pressure pills, and for mosquito drugs as well as mosquito repellant if you live in Lagos. Now you know when I said the marriage will not last more than 2 years without the wife cheating on the beloved husband for extra coins to meet her need for bleaching cream, considering the fact that the Nigerian Sun is NOT merciful to those who jump into danfo daily, a bracket which the wife of a man on 80k salary belongs.

It depends on the type of life u wanna live. Even wit 20k u can marry. U'll only be living as a poor couple. With 80k u'll still be a poor couple. Add kids and it becomes poor family
