Josephine Chukwunonye was the first choice right back. I guess she was dropped due to a dip in form.

thx boss

Bros let us not compare USA with Nigeria. There are more technology involved in the USA team than Nigeria's, if any, at all. Few players on USA team are married and even given birth yet play football. In Nigeria ordinary getting engaged, the player will eat herself out of shape.
The US captain has 2 kids - a 9 year old and a 5 year old.

Chukwunonye has not been dropped. In fact, I think she will make the team however it appears the coach seems to push her toward central defense.

going forward (attacking),the falcons look comfortable..pls can we brainstorm on how to tighten dat defence?

let's pick holes and try to suggest fixes,I personally am not comfortable with njoku..she has good long passes though, but her recovery is suspect, her tackles aren't too neat..n I also feel her temperament too might need attention.

I feel we should try out other full backs, pls who was d falcons no 1 right full back n why was she dropped?

Njoku is a tough young girl and Falcons need her in that position. Yes sometimes her tackling is a borderline reckless. Again, this is where the coaching comes into play. In fact, I think the team is missing Helen Ukaonu on the left side of the field including the dynamite she packs on legs.

Central defense would suit her only because she's got pace. Standing at 5'7'', she could get beaten in the air by Swedish and American players who are 5'10"/5'11", especially Abby Wambach.

It would be a good idea if Peter Dedevbo is drafted to the team as an assistant to Okon. Dedevbo really knows how to read matches, and he is tactically flexible too.

If she can out jump them, she will be fine. This is the reason the team should include players with height as midfielders.

She would have to time her jumps earlier than the taller players.

Helen was one hell of a player,i personally wished she could have held down the left back shirt for the falcons, she gave us options with dead balls, and her overlapping really did make sense.

Imagine Ngozi Ebere, Ukaonu, and Gloria Ofoegbu all challenging for one spot. That's a heck of a competition.
Me thinks the coach will go for Ebere and Ofoegbu. Ofoegbu delivers free kicks and corner kicks well.

Our central defence pairing isnt the best in the world too...i think Ohale is a bit average for me,and can be caught napping on a good day.

Onome..,positionally she has got it,but like i mentioned earlier against pacy strikers, she may be beaten for it.

Another thing i have noticed is that our central defenders dont look too assured when they have the ball,i rarely see them trying to play out, always too quick to release the ball to a teammate or clear to safety. That calm assured presence that a confident defender has when on the ball,i would like to see it at the world cup.

Sharp strikers know when defenders are trying to play safe, they are like sharks, when they smell blood, they will zero in on you.If you try to play safe as a defender, the opposing attacker will force you to make errors and they will punish you for it.

I think Falcon will include Mariam Ibrahim on the squad. I do not know her height and besides Falcon will have Ohale too.

The one weakness in the Falcon lies with the central defense. I had thought the coaches would have invited Gladys Abasi as they did with Mariam Ibrahim. The exposure would have helped to improve her game. The two players are the young, up and coming central defenders for the Falcon.

The problem with the defence is not about the players, it is more about the tactics. The defensive midfielders are not disciplined, and the full backs as well. So when the ball gets pass the half way line, there is chaos. People do not hold their positions any longer. You may have Njoku coming back from her foray upwards, and no midfielder covering for her.
The solution is NEVER to play a high line of defence when you have intelligent opponents. The team is balanced enough to play a 4-5-1 with the ability to break into 4-3-3 when the opponent is on the backfoot. Asisat's backtracking is key to this formation.

Umotong came off the bench to score a hatrick, and an assist for her club on the weekend... With her current form, I think it will be difficult for Okon to drop her. Three of Uchechi Sunday, Ihezuo, Sarah Michael or Courtney Dike might have to be dropped for her, because Oshoala, Oparanozie, Ordega and Esther Sunday would surely be on the plane to Canada.

Six forwards should be the maximum, anything more than that would cause some serious imbalance in the squad.

I wouldn't put my money on Esther Sunday making d team, with d calibre of players she is up against,I personally won't pick her in my team,I think it will be between Uchechi Sunday n Sarah.Dike may be dropped sef.

With all due respect, the games in England are not as tough as the games in our local league. Oshoala said this after playing few games in Liverpool colours.
I will think the six strikers are : Oparanozie, Oshoala, Sunday Ordega, Sarah Michael, Perpetua. The last spot is up for grabs amongst the newbies.

Nigeria have dominated women's
football on the continent since the
African Women's Championship (AWC)
was first staged. The Super Falcons
have won seven of nine tournaments
and the two times they have not won the competition it did not double as a
qualifying tournament for the FIFA
Women's World Cup. Their overall
record at the AWC is a remarkable 36
wins and five draws in 45 matches. They secured their ticket to Canada by
winning the ninth AWC in Namibia in
October, winning all five matches they
played, scoring 16 goals in the process
and conceding just three. They topped
their group after comfortable victories against Namibia, Zambia and Côte
d'Ivoire, before beating South Africa 2-1
in the semi-finals. In the championship
match they secured a 2-0 victory
against Cameroon. In Africa, the Super Falcons have
achieved success playing an all-out
attacking style of play

I must say that Esther Sunday is one of the most gifted soccer players on the Falcon team. Sometimes she is carried away by the moment of the game and would want to score rather than pass the ball to a well positioned team mate. She should be on the team.
