The Egyptian Government has signed an agreement with Germany for the procurement of two Howaldtswerke-Deutche Werft (HDW)-built SSK Manthatisi-class Type-209 submarines
http://www.naval-technology.com/news/newsgermany-deliver-two-type-209-submarines-egypt

Manthatisi class is the class of Type 209 operated by the SAN named after the lead vessel - THE MANTHATISI
http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/sskmanthatisi/

South African version of Type 209 is so impressive that even mighty Egypt wants them!!

FYI: No anti-ship missiles on them

Egypt is buying the new technology Type 209 submarine.

The South African version is now old and inferior.

Egypt is buying 4 submarines of that type, not 2....FOUR Type 209 submarines !

"Two Type 209 submarine as a contract had been signed with Germany in 2011 to build two submarines for the Egyptian navy in a deal worth €920 million that will be armed with Boeing UGM-84 Harpoon Block II missiles and will be delivered in 2016. Egypt will also sign another contract with Germany for two additional Type 209 submarines bringing the total to four.

On 31 August 2012, the Egyptian Navy commander General Osama Ahmed stated that a contract has been signed with the German side to build two type 209 submarines for the Egyptian Navy including the latest technology this type has reached. The first vessel is scheduled to be delivered in 2016. Egypt is planning to exercise an option of the contract for another two type 209 submarines"

So you completely avoided responding? You running away from comparing what the Nigerian navy has aquired in the same period of time??

Egyptian subs have no harpoons - AND ARE BASED ON OURS

Kilo is inferior to Type 209 - Russian diesel subs are notoriously bad

So much so that Korea and New Zealand turned down FREE ones from Russia

Shilka has 4 barrels and are radar guided to pin point target, even if the target is speeding 1,000 km/h like Hawk jet.

SANDF does NOT have any CRAM anti-missile defence as at today 2015, the project is slowed down by lack of funds, and the target date of 2017 will be further delayed.

SANDF has NO SINGLE CRAM defence today. FACT !

Nigeria has 16 Roland launchers, 2 missiles load each, 8 more missiles inside cabin with rapid automatic reload in 10 seconds.

10 missiles x 16 launchers = 160 missiles.....SAAF will die in seconds
.

Still keeping a 50 years old grandfather Roland. Please let go of that malfunctioning old hack, it won't save you from the wrath of SANDF.

I see that the SAN's foul swoop to aquire an entirely new Naval task force of 4 Frigates, 3 Sub's, 3 Frigate Sized OPV's and 3 IPV's (which can perform de-mining duties) in less than 20 years is causing allot of Nigerian tears.

Even if your navy robs a bank, they won't have enough money to buy one stealth OPV, talk less of that dream list above

We feel a great deal of pity for you South-Africans. Flying an obsolete Helicopter, your government cannot afford and has been roundly rejected!!

"Denel COO Jan Wessels outlined the company's thinking to IHS Jane's , saying the process is taking the form of a "two-pronged approach".

The first is focused on the "life extension of the existing Rooivalk Block 1F fleet, dealing with obsolescence and adding some functionalities". Denel, Armscor and the South African Air Force (SAAF) are working to "establish the breadth and depth of the upgrade" that should be undertaken.

While not yet confirmed, this has to include the replacement of old computers. It would also make sense to integrate the Denel Dynamics Mokopa semi-active laser (SAL)-guided missile, which was developed for the Rooivalk, but has not been acquired by the SAAF as yet."

LOL....LOL...LOL, the ranges are in nautical miles not miles you M0RON.....this guy knows next to nothing about warships !

Nigeria does NOT use Type 056 OPV.....we have P18N OPV.....Show me a source that says Nigeria uses Type 056.

Type 056 frigate = 1,300 tons

P18N OPV = 1,800 tons

Now show us a citation for the range of P18N OPV.....show us citation for the 2,000 nautical miles range.

LOL....you have trapped yourself....LOL.....show us P18N range
.

A minor typo - stop nit-picking

Regardless of the size of your opv it's range will have to more than double to meet that of the warrior class

Warrior class is a better opv in terms of range

Unfortunately you haven't done project management to understand that there are short and long term project in any organisation. Project Biro same as other long term projects in SAN only started as envisioned dream and now everything is starting to materials with companies already about to start the project. The project will be win-win project since it will as well boast the economy in the country.

SA is not in a hurry with the project, yet the project is becoming a reality. It is better that matter how long it takes we are finally heading somewhere and we will once more built our own ships.

Better late than never.

Yes, it's a 450 ton MPV with long range to patrol only near home close to South African coast, it is too small a boat to do OPV work or else high sea storm will sink it with high waves, or the high seas turbulence will make your sailors so sea-sick they will vomit out their intestines.

So, your 4,000 nm range will be used to perambulate around homeland waters while pirates are busy in the high seas robbing and ruling.

Now we see a 450 ton SAN patrol boat that could not dare go to Mozambique channel.....ZERO force projection.....reason for struggling to revive project biro.

Enjoy your 4,000 nm range patrol boat sailing round and round in circles only near home land coast Cape Town . LOL. Toy boat
.

Warrior class is the primary San patrol asset in the Mozambique channel

VHF and UHF transmission, old school Doppler Radar, FLIR, AM and FM radio....what? What da fvck are you writing on that shiity long list ?

FVCK . LOL.....Fvck !

You have a long garbage list you think will deceive people here? FAIL !

The only modern thing is Top Owl Helmet sight and that is used for the NOE flight.....it failed, the Rooivalk crashed in broad daylight, the sights failed to sight anything o !

FAIL ! Rooivalk is obsolete 30 years technology

.

Augustus

Why are you avoiding the majority of the capabilities of the Rooivalk?

Rooivalk Specifications:

Thales TopOwl Helmets
- A Thales Avionics TopOwl helmet-mounted sight display (HMSD) provides the crew with a head-up display of information for nap-of-the-earth flight (NOE).
- TopOwl incorporates an integrated measurement system for directing an articulated weapon such as the cannon, or air-to-air missile seeker heads (look to kill capabilities).

Electronic Warfare
- Rooivalk's electronic warfare suite is the fully integrated helicopter electronic warfare self-protection suite (HEWSPS)
- incorporates: radar warning, laser warning and countermeasures dispensing system.
- The system is flight-line programmable and in-flight adaptable to match the threat library with the mission's area of operation.
-radar warner features low-effective radiated power (ERP) / pulse Doppler radar detection beyond radar detection range, ultra broadband frequency coverage, high pulse density handling and internal instantaneous frequency measurement.
- laser warner provides broadband laser frequency coverage to detect and display rangefinding, designating and missile guidance laser threats.
- the countermeasures dispensing system, which is operated in manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic mode, is charged with chaff and flare cartridges.

TDATS (Target detection, acquisition and tracking)

- The TDATS sight is equipped with a low-level television sensor
- Forward-looking infrared (FLIR)
- autotracker
- laser rangefinder
-laser designator.

Navigation
- Doppler radar velocity sensor
- Thales Avionics eight-channel global positioning system
- heading sensor unit and an air data unit.

Communication
- two VHF/UHF transceivers with FM, AM with digital speech processing
- one HF radio with frequency hopping
- secure voice and data channels
- and an IFF transponder.

You know what do I like the most. Let me put it in capital letters

SA HAS MANUFACTURED HER OWN GUNSHIP, UNLIKE NIGERIA WHICH HAS NEVER TRIED. WE ARE ONLY ONE OF ONLY NINE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD TO HAVE EVER DONE SO IN AFRICA. DOES THAT NOT SOUND FANTASTIC ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE MANAGED TO ACHIEVE AGAINST ALL ODDS?

The west still perceive Africa as doomed continent that would look at others to do everything for them, from the cars they drive to the shoes they wear. South Africa is the only country in Africa that does not fold their arms and wait for the west to invent something for them, though I have to admit that we cannot make everything as we are still dependent to their technology to greater extent, but, they all know that we are the one and only ones in Africa and constantly challenge the west in the world of technology.

I am not wasting time with this argument.

The 20mm guns on the Drakensburg are manually operated.

Look at the name of the weapon: "20mm Oerlikon"

Look at the caption of the picture: "A Gunner operating a 20mm Oerlikon"

Look at the armament of the Drakensburg "4× Oerlikon 20 mm cannon"

This is fact, end of story.
