A major general took a decision that will affect security, I think he knows better than many people who cry here. The soldiers should stop harrasing the civilians they see on the road. They should go to their camps and strategize better on how to stop book haram, oil vandals, and other more security challenges. The road block should be left to the police. Simple!!!

Wrong Move.
How empowered are these policemen?

Mr President should be aware that the masses feel a better aura of protection when the military is around.
There is a deeply entrenched psychological norm that you do not mess with the military.

Is he trying to prove to us that he has nothing to do with the military anymore, and as such allaying our fears that he is out to militarize Nigeria?
Mr President ought to be reminded of the decay in the institution called the Nigerian Police Force.
A people who are not co-ordinated enough to build better living conditions in their barracks?

I do not support this move.
These policemen will exchange our lives with 50 naira stipends.
It's a big NO!.....imhosmiley

Thank you.

How many military check points do you know pre BH war?

Military incursion in internal security has been a norm since a long time ago. Most state governors even use them to beef up the police through joint taskforce.

Do we need military on Nigeria roads even when the police is constitutionally empowered to do so ?
Re: Buhari Orders Removal Of Military Check Points by creekmayor: 5:39pm On Jun 22, 2015
Finally, I think this should have happened long ago. However, I do not feel the police are adequately funded, trained and equipped to handle the job of securing the lives and property of Nigerians. Also they need to be purged of the bad eggs more like 60% of them. In any case good move.

When I visited Northern Nigeria, so many military road blocks scared me. So boring to drive from one state to another. What irks me much was that the military personnel do not check vehicles but keep on collecting money from motorist especially commercial vehicles. I then asked myself what is the essence of keeping people hours waiting and allowing them go without searching what they carry?

Kudos to Mr President. An excellent relief to northerners. Really, CHANGE has come!

How many times have you seen the military doing the work of the police in developed countries ? The fact that it has become the norm over time doesn't make it an acceptable standard. Just admit it was a wise decision and stop tripping.
Is nigeria a developed country??

Clearly this man is not thinking of our safety.
He is more security conscious than you, I guess. A former General in Nigerian Army who went to trainings all over the world Knows far far better than ordinary school teacher or car vendor. Police should be given chance to exercise their civic duties. Military should be taken away from the public except during chaos. God bless Nigeria.

Eyah! So no more cheque points for these 50 naira loving soldiers. Hope some of them won't go into armed robbery after a week of no extortion from bus drivers. Even though I hate the nigerian army and it's men I must say this is a wrong move,BH will move to their strike points without anyone intercepting them.

Look bro, constitution said police should protect you. Experience has shown they can't protect you in war time like this.

Do you stick with constitution or go with experience?

Nigeria beside the NE is not a war zone. Why should it be heavily militarized ?
You're right my brother but I tell you some parts of Nigeria are as unsafe as northeast.

How many killings perpetrated by 'Fulani' have you heard being reported from north central and some parts of Taraba. Scanty or none. Because people only talk about northeast.

But I tell you the killings are going on and some have to leave their homes. Can our police manage that level of crisis?
The withdrawal should be gradual not abruptly.

Jorussia:
.In a Democratic system of government, Its the police, that is empowered by law,to be solely in charge of internal security, the military is only called in,in a very serious security emergency. However, in our own case, the military has virtually taking over the functions of the police and this not a good development in our nascent democracy. This recent order by Mr.president, is a good development, but i believe that it will be best,if the withdrawal of our military personnel is done gradually because of the current ill equipped State of our police force. If our police is well funded, and equipped, there will not be any internal security challenge that won't be able to handle.I was surprised during the unfortunate Boston bombing in the US that it was the police handled the situation, in contrast to ours here where the military will be immediately deployed.
