Tension In Anambra As 47 Boko Haram Prisoners Arrive Ekwulobia Prisons by Rilwayne001: 8:09am On Jun 30, 2015
Awka—THERE was tension in Anambra State yesterday, following reports that 47 Boko Haram suspects have been relocated to Ekwulobia Prisons in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

When the rumour of the alleged relocation broke out weekend, hundreds of youths stormed the streets and all markets in the state were shut in protest.
A visit to Ekwulobia Prisons, however, did not show any sign that new inmates were brought there and the prisons officials said they had not received any signal to that effect.

However, Vanguard gathered last night that the 47 Boko Haram prisoners were brought to Ekwulobia prisons in the dead of the night of Sunday, June 28, amid tight security.

Yesterday, agitated people in various parts of the state were seen making telephone calls and Ekwulobia, the fourth largest city in the state, has been getting renewed attention, with those whose relations are serving sentences in the medium security prison expressing worry over the development, which they said would put their relations there at great risk, in view of the antecedents of Boko Haram suspects.

The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Uju Nwogu, could not confirm the development, even as she said Governor Willie Obiano had gone to Abuja to meet President Muhammadu Buhari over the matter.
Following the governor’s absence, the weekly state executive council meeting, which holds every Monday, could not hold yesterday.

Obiano’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. James Eze, had in a statement, exonerated the governor from the relocation arrangement.

Eze said further that Governor Obiano’s efforts to establish understanding and achieve speedy and peaceful resolution of the matter went to the highest authorities, adding that he was given assurances that the matter would be looked into, with a view to resolving it.

There were also feelers that traders in the commercial town of Onitsha have vowed to continue their protest, following alleged relocation of the prisoners from the Northern part of the country to Ekwulobia Prisons.

We are still on this issue,

If true, this is not cool at all, but at the end of the day the Federal government calls the shots.

South East people how market? Na only 47 waka come Anambra and una dey complain, expect more of them in a short time grin grin Lwkm.

But, on a more seriou note my ndi Igbo friends, there is no cause for alarm. Boko haram prisoners can't do u any harm, as they are under chain, lock and key. The goverment is just trying to decongest the prison in the North.

On Saturday,
More than a hundred of thousands youths protested in anger... I witnessed a hold-up at Onitsha-Owerri Express road from the early morning till 1:43PM before movement was allowed... More than 15,000 Vehicles where trapped in a terrible hold-up...
Even the soldiers were powerless..

Well, it was all futile after all. Now that they have been relocated, what are you going to do?

I hope Obiano's visit to Abuja yields something positive. .. Ekwulobia is densely populated for God's sake... Why should terrorists be brought to live amongst innocent citizens when they should be kept in a desert. ..

This isn't about Igboland or not, it's simply not right.. No state will be comfortable with such. ..

I don't see the reason for any tension. You don't concentrate them where they will easily be set free, and we can always contain their madness here when it starts.

Improve the Prisons....PMB

Modified.....As I said earlier....the issue is that our regular Prisons in Nigeria are not in good shape.

What's stopping an infiltration attack by the same evil Bokoists....to free their comrades (They tried it in Abuja too).

In my opinion....keep the Bokoists in more secure prisons....not in jails that are sitting security risks...like Nigerian jails.

Send them to Kirikiri(our only really ''secure'' jail)....or build a new and improved max security prison.

I hope PMB has a plan for making our prisons better. He better!

Am sorry to say, Anambra ppl are cowards! Unarmed prisoners been feared. I bet the ppl in Bornu will laugh at dis!

I knw mentally unstable ppl wil quote me nw
You don't fully comprehend the implication of this move.
Even a dead animal is to be feared. Why? Because it attracts flies which can spread bacteria.
Relocating these guys to anambra means bringing the action down south because there will be attempts by their brothers to rescue them.
And you would be naive to think that their BH brothers will come and seat down to demand their release over cups of coffee with the jailers. No! It will involve violence thus disrupting the peace of the region.

Those Boko haram guys deserve to be imprisoned in a forest far away from other humans.

Suddenly Buhari loves us so much to give Anambra his first ever dividend of democracy to any state in the country. When it comes development infrastructure the East will be least considered. When it's about sharing political posts in the National Assembly, the East is least considered but when it's about prison matters, the East swiftly comes to mind.

In the words of Lucky Dube "they are not building schools anymore, all they are building are prison prison".
