Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 10:34pm On Jun 23, 2015
@bimbam, missed u dearly. How are u doing and business...let's chat on BB.

Yeah you bet I will post pix as soon as they are fully ready, however we did an atelier test shooting during fittings and all, I must say they are not bad. Will psot a pix of one of the piece though not finished yet.

The theme is organised chaos and after the brain storming section I chose Nepa pole and my inspiration. The neckpiece and hair accessory are actually electrical wires. Keep ur finshers crossed for the complete collection when it's ready.

So guys bear with me as I push this brand to the next level.

For a start, 1yr is great if u learn well, do ur research well before u take that leap. But you will still have to keep learning to meet the standard and learn new skills, u never stop learning really, but 1yrs is good enough if you are opportune to learn in a good place.

Make sure u have a good foundation then the rest will just follow, constant practice and ur attitude should be after God, duty next, don't joke around, fashion is not cheap so u will constantly have to spend money on practical to equip urself, it's constant learning and practising.

Good luck dear.

To insert a godet (which is what the triangle piece is called), you sew it to the skirt pieces before you sew the skirt.

Take one skirt piece (SP), and at the hem line, pin one side of the godet to one side of the SP (right sides together). Now, with the godet facing up, sew a seam from the hemline all the way to the end of the godet and make two or three stitches extra on to the SP.

Next, take the next SP of your 6 piece skirt and pin one side of it to the other side of the godet you just attached (right sides together). With godet side facing up, put your machine's needle as close to the stitching on the other side of the godet as possible. Make sure that fabric from the other side of the godet is not under your work. Sew your seam towards the hemline. Once done, pin the two SPs together and then stitch a seam that is starts exactly at the tip of the triangle or the godet.

If this is not clear, you can google "insert a godet".

Many thanks to arakulture, kemesty and bimbam. I combined the several tutorials on this thread to make this outfit. I wanted to have the band at underbust but it almost got to my waist . Any idea on what I didn't do right? Thanks.

Having the band underbust would not have been flattering on your nice figure. But if you really wanted it underbust, you would measure from shoulder, over the bust apex, to right under the bust. This would make the top into an Empire style.

You did a terrific job on the entire outfit...great work!

How many pieces is the skirt? It fits beautifully on you.

Thank you very much bimbam, it's an 8 pieces skirt. I used rope at the band.band . waist and hip is same width 6"/panel and 18"/ panel for the end ( inclusive of seam allowance).
Do you think a bodice of 11" and inch seam allowance making 12 will be ok for an empire waist? Also how many inch band will be appropriate?
Also I feel the flare part of the blouse is short. What do you think?

Thanks.
Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 11:10pm On Jul 04, 2015
@-class well done, I love your choice of colour.

To cut a top with empire and a band, it quite simple, all u have to do is measure your shoulder to your half length 1inch or 2 before your navel or right at your navel where ever is flattery for your shape. Then measure your shoulder to under bust, to get the band measurement, subtract the difference of your shoulder to under bust and shoulder to half length. That will give you a normal band but if you want a very wide band then you are adding an inch of two from the difference of your half length and full length.

E.g.

Shoulder to underbust = 14 inches
Shoulder to half length = 16 inches
Diff. 2 inches = band
Full length = 24

Flare = 8 inches

Is it clear?

If not let me know.

That depends on how wide you want the base of te skirt to be. If your skirt pieces are already cut with a flare at the bottom, the godet will add even more width at the bottom.
