Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 10:12pm On Jul 16, 2014
@ noncy21, for novice it's best u cut on pattern paper if u are not sure or calico (teru) before cutting on ur fabric.

We have not started cutting dress pattern yet, wat we are doing now is preparing d fabric ready for cutting cos it's a colour block panel dress.

Lay your brown paper in a landscape format, start your measurement from your right hand side.

Measurement to use

Length
Shoulder 15 into 2
Armhole into 2
Bust into 4
Waist into 4
Hip into 4
Shoulder to nipple point
Half length

We are dividing most if our measurement into 4.

Starting from d tip of d paper, measure ur shoulder e.g. mine is 15, I will divide by 2 and measure out then mark, from d same point starting from d tip, measure ur neck in width / length, I use 3 by 3 on mine paper, notice d slat on d shoulder in d pix? Remove 1 inch down, from dat point measure out ur armhole e.g. mine is 16 l measured 6.5 from up down, reason is wen u shape out it like it's on d pix it measures up.

From d shoulder measure shoulder to nipple point and rule, then measure out ur busy from day point mine is 36 +1 for ease divide by 4 then measure and add 1.5 seam allowance, from ur shoulder again measure ur half length and rule again, divide ur waist by 4 and add 1.5 seam allowance then mark

To get d distance from d waist to d hip u can use by 7-9 depending on ur figure mine is 9, measure 9 and rule again then measure ur hips and add 1.5 allowance then shape down to d length using ruler for accuracy.

For experts in d house u know wat to do.

If u don't want to shape ur dress use ur hips measure to cut d pattern and shape at d bust area your underbust or leave loose, I like mine shaped a little.

Any questions?

@cheries use ur own measurement, d figures I gave is for explanations ok....
Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 5:43pm On Jul 18, 2014
Also, u can achieve 8 by measuring 6.5 from down then shape out, to confirm bend d tape in d position of d Armhole to measure.

Like I said from d beginning, use ur method if u can sew it's a sew along for those who has knowledge and beginners are as well.

@OP...pls I wi draft mine on mon. Am too busy dis wkend. Pls I av a question. Why should we lay d brown paper landscape instead of portrait? I think laying it landscape wi not contain d pattern for d gown. Just thinking sha 'cos am a total novice on sewing. Lol
Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 10:50pm On Jul 19, 2014

I av drafted my front ma but the pic is not uploading. I wi keep on trying to upload. Pls ma how did u measure ur neck lenght and width 'cos I assumed me as 3.5 by 3.5? Tnx ma
Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 3:15pm On Jul 23, 2014
Sorry peeps been very busy with training.

To measure ur neck just place d tape on your neck or use ur clothe at hope to get it but 3.5 by 3.5 is perfect.

To get ur back, while ur fabric is on fold, place it on the joined panel for your back and leave 1.5 for zip allowance if u want ur zip at d back but if u want at d side cut d back as d front and if u don't want zip at all then don't shape it at d waist to make (this works for normal busy o), making sure you align d joining well

OP said "Remember it's a shift dress u can choose to shape it a bit like I did or leave it straight." I guess there are no darts...
