Was that supposed to be a joke? Hmm I'd be coming back to laugh.

Paedophilia is alien to us here in Akwa Ibom.
Here, we let our crops grow to the right stage before we harvest them, after all, the creator blessed us with fertile soils (beautiful women). In that aspect, I can't think of any solution to a foreign disease. Those affected should investigate themselves and repeal any law that condones paedophilia.

Our children were to be protected and not penetrated. Anything that goes against nature is not normal and should be treated as such. If shaming and jailing cannot curb this act, maybe they should take it up psychologically.

And with the parents playing their parts, the media house creating more awareness, the government enacting strict laws to punish offenders and sticking to it.... Slowly, this crime, if not totally eradicated would be reduced to the barest minimum.

Homosexuality has come to stay, let's not add paedophilia to the list.
You are funny. grin grin

Nigga just shutdafuckup.

I ignored you at first because you dont know what you are talking about.

Only last year, there was a big brouhaha in the news about the town of rotherham here in the UK where over 1500 underage girls had been molested between 1999 and 2013 by a gang led by 5 men.

3 years ago, the story broke about Jimmy Saville who had molested over 600 underage girls....that number is even a conservative estimate

Jimmy Saville's reign of rape was started in the 60's and spanned over 50 years, so the 589 rapes/molestation are not so impressive. And his case was unusual as he was 1) a rich celeb and 2) had access to young children in the NHS. I was actually in the UK during the height of the scandal in 2012/2013.

I dont know much about your rotterham rape gang. So I can not say much

I never said that rape didnt happen in the UK. I clearly said that rape of minors in the EU is relatively rare- people know that it is difficult to get away with such.

Nihilist:

The rest of this statement is just more uninformed nonsense. I cannot help you of you think that NGO promoting contraceptives can also protect against rape. I cannot help you if you think villagers sexually molest underage girls because they are illiterate.

Ever since you were educated on Standd's over thread, you have been looking for a way to get one over Nihilist. You have made personal attacks on Nihilist and avoided his points that were not even addressed to you at all. Nihilist doesn't send you mate. Nihilist doesn't give two. grin grin

You're better off promoting your failure of a blog with it's lack of comments and advertising than you are getting Nihilist's attention because this is his last post to you.

cool

I dont need my blog to blow to make money. I write for other magazines. This is how I know that you are a beggar in the UK. Everything is about money for you.

Oh, and Nihilist if only you knew who I am.......we used to be good friends. The only reason why I keep trolling you, grin

So don't think you are special.

There are different kinds of 'old men' that are worth sleeping with. He might not have been in that category... Abi do women sleep with everything they see?

Our customs, tradition and common sense doesn't allow any room for paedophilia.

It's rare because most people do it in their closet mostly in southern Nigeria.

It's their culture in the Northern Nigeria and Arabic/Islamic countries.

My point is people who get raped do not deserve it no matter their choice of clothing. You keep talking about the ladies, what of the little children, boys and girls, toddlers?
You saw on FP today, cases of children who were raped by grown men. Was that 9year old not decent too?

Maybe you should read the Op again. Thank you.

Thank you for being so sensible.

I think part of the problem is that the offenders would always find a way to justify their actions by blaming the victim. They would say the woman was dressed 'indecently' or that 'children these days know too much'. It's pathetic.

Not to mention the shame put on victims of sexual violence is used to silence them, so their abusers aren't brought to book.

First, protect the underage girls. From the age of 5/6 my nieces already know that no one is supposed to touch them anyhow. Also, they never go out alone. They are also told to report any teacher or any guardian or relative behaving funny to them.

Parents too are needed. My parents gave us children close marking. They hardly left us in the hands of others

And your little nephews?

But they will need legal backing to do anything like that. That's where it is dicey.
Nigerians, the whole freaking populace need to be schooled on empathy. I like the idea behind this discussion. I also understand that the younger ones are more vulnerable than we are. But I'd like emphasis to be spread evenly. Too many psychologically and emotionally damaged women maketh not good mentors or good guardians to these youngsters.

Pls its important not to buy into the narrative that grown ass women are to blame for the rape that happens to them. Dressing is subjective. No human should be constrained by the wants or needs of another except consent is granted or there is a mutual agreement. Yesterday I wore a skinny jean, a long sweater and a grey veil around my head. Yet I still had men ogling and whistling "sister you no go come my shop come greet me".

If there is anything to be done, I would like to help.

p.s men also get molested too. Let's fight this together.

Naming and Shaming does not work. We've seen all the articles posted online with names and photos of the pedos and rapists. What has happened to them afterwards? Do you even remember the names of the perps or the victims? I certainly don't.

The ideal thing to have is a sex offenders list...but even that wouldn't work in Nigeria for obvious reasons.

The only thing to do is to protect yourself.

Look at it this way, I live in a country where fences are ornamental rather than functional, and windows don't have bars on them. The average person here does not need a 6 foot fence with barbed wire to protect him from burglars and the police are well equipped to rapidly respond to any calls for help. Consequently it is illegal to use deadly force to defend yourself in your own house

Now in contrast, I was born in a country where the fences are very much functional and all the windows and doors have bars on them. The average person needs a 10 foot wall topped with barbed wire, spikes and broken bottles, in addition to burglary proofed iron bars on windows and doors, and their gates are padlocked. The police system does not work, and you are encouraged to defend yourself if and when you can.

That is the key thing here: Self-Defence.

Now one _idiot quoted me to ask who would defend a 10 year old girl. 10 year old girls get molested even in advanced countries. If I have to explain that my post on self-defence also extends to guardians defending their wards, I might as well just give up on having an intelligent conversation.

Finally, Standd Nigeria is broken, no two ways about it. Idealism is misplaced when talking about the utter clusterfuck that is that country. Nigerians must be pragmatic realists on all occasions. There is really nothing else to aspire to.

Summary of your post:-NIGERIANS JUST LIE DOWN AND DIE.

All convicted rapist and other sexual offenders should be placed in a nationwide data base; and be barred from working in educational institutions.

Exactly rape can happen anywhere. Does a father need education to know that maybe he shouldn't rape his own daughter?

Does a principal need education to know that he shouldn't rape his students?

in my own understanding, dressing plays a major role among d adult(a dress can be decent, also a dress can be naughty)
The use of an online database system to check if your collegues, neighbours, friends nd relatives s a rapist will mk the enivornment save for our children, adults etc.
Furthermore, every rape must be reported to d approipate authority( to get punished nd get their names nd details registered) online)

Wrong. Capital punishment doesnt work, especially when a person can't be 100% proven guilty or 100% convicted without doubt.

What we beat/castrate an innocent man?

Here are the steps to be taken

-First produce material (Videos, pamphlets and conventions) that inform men and women about their rights and ra.pe. This should be done in many languages for all Nigerians to understand.

-TV stations and health workers around the nation should be educated and also themselves educate the masses about ra.pe and pe.dophilia

-Laws regarding ra.pe and pedop.hilia should be ratified. Also, false rape allegations should carry heavy penalties.

On the grassroot levels
-educate your sisters, children, nieces and nephews on ra.pe and pedophilia
-get nairaland admin to promote anti-rape and safe-sex threads on the front page
-don't be a molester grin grin grin
you have spoken my mind.... Aggressive media sensitization

I feel that I finally need to speak up since I now know that merely creating threads, pointing fingers and name-calling will no longer suffice. I am plain fed up with the hundreds of Rape cases being published in my country.
How do these cases end?
We even hear of pastors and elderly men begging the parents of the victim to withdraw their case against an offender who raped their child. And victims being shamed and blamed and at the end of the day, the rapist could relocate and commit the same offence all over again. Then some men now say that 9year old girls seduce them and witches push them to rape. So pathetic and shameful.

Okay, you may feel that it doesn't concern you but then what goes around comes around, and one day, it will finally concern you, directly or indirectly.

So, my question is.. What is the most viable way to curb sexual offences, rape and abuse of any form; against women, men, girls, boys and helpless children especially.

Do we begin to publish names and pictures of CONVICTED sexual offenders and paste them in public places?

Do we start a publication, blog, website where we put up the details of every sexual offence plus details of the rapists, then send the link to everyone we know?

Do we solicit any of our dailies to help publish these notices profiling sexual offenders and their addresses?

What do we do?

P.S: Pls, let us not talk about the NPF, or prison sentences or even any sort of law put in place that never favours the poor or the voiceless masses. Think about the physical and psychological effect on these helpless children subjected to rape by adults who later bribe their way out.

I plead that if you have links to dailies or ideas on things that can be done to proffer an effective and lasting solution to this evil debacle that has befallen our society, kindly let us know.
It is my belief that when a rapist sees his picture and name in public, it will stop him from committing the same offence again, and also serve as a deterrent to others who plan on abusing anyone in the future.

Disclaimer: My post do not cover those who were/are/will be wrongly accused of a crime they know nothing about. And only CONVICTED rapists should be exposed and punished.

Thank you.
Pls, send me a PM if you do not want to comment on this thread.
Looking forward to positive and lasting solutions.

I don't believe in cutting down unwanted trees as much as in rooting them out.

That said, it is expedient that we address the root cause of the matter, which is the rapist or paedophile or whatever fancy name they are called.

It is said that everybody has a drop of greatness in them. Likewise everybody has a drop of villainy in them. ... of çourse, everyone is a potential rapist/paedophile etc

The problem today is because of the activation of this potential, and the alarming rate at which it has increased...

To solve this problem, we need to stop/annihilate/eradicate the activation of the rape potential. We can achieve this with the help of an activated rapist/paedo...

We have them here on Nairaland. They should volunteer for this great cause. If no one does, then I, myself, will volunteer. But I must warn you, my rape potential is 0. (zero to ñothingness)
