150k? She must be high on TIN alcohol, may i know the branch/state where u went for this? Databoy247 has said it all, u should'nt pay more than 25k for VAT. Maybe the lady noticed ur new into this.. There is no way she will backdate to 3yrs ago is she mad? My Dear TCC/TIN is free after you must have paid for VAT. naija i hail o
hehehehehe, hustlers everywhere. In fact if she registered in April, she may not pay 25k at all. The whole process will be free. The rule is that if your CAC registration is less than 6 months then you get everything for free (apart from the 3k or 4k tip for the whole process to be faster). But if it exceeds 6 months then it attracts 25k. From the next year, the payment then drops to 20k annually.

If you registered your business this year, you are not supposed to pay more than 25k. The lady is trying to exploit you.

Yes I registered it this year april 18th to be precise. According to her, its a business name that means I must pay personal income tax for the past three years.

Utako branch Abuja. Yeah I think she noticed I was new. She was like, there is no way that I wouldn't pay that amount. Its for personal income tax.

@Databoy247, @Scantee, I registered a business name in April this year with my wife's name and my name.
She will be the one managing the business.
I already have an e-tcc from lagos state and pay PAYE through my employer.
Hope it's only my wife that will pay tax from the business?
We intend to get the TIN, TCC & VAT before starting the business.
Are we required to pay for anything?

The tax your paying is for your company not base on indvidual, and it will determine by your company annual turnover, as your company is less than 6 months your to pay for the Vat, Tcc and Tin are free. So your likely to pay between 5k-25k not more than that, but if your company have done any project withing the period registration it might be evaluated base on that.

Thanks scantee, I meant that during the registration of the business name, I included myself and my wife as the owners of the business but it's practically for her.
My question is since I am registered as one the owners of that business, would I be required to pay PAYE on it even though my PAYE is deducted by my employer.

Talking about VAT, the business will start operating from next month. On what are we going to pay VAT and how will that be calculated?

We want to fix/get to know all the government rates and taxes before starting.

Pardon my plenty questions.

your not paying it individualy, any tax paid by the company covers for everybody, assuming you have staff already is the duty of the company to deduct their tax indirectly with or without their notice, talking about how they evaluate the amount to pay by a new company like yours which is less than six months and have not done any job, you know Nigeria system that they must find a way to make you spend money on everything, for me on legal ground i don't think your company suppose to pay, but lets assume their initial charge might be for admistrative/processing fees which i believe should'nt be much.

Thank you very much.
Armed with these info, I should be able to get a very low cost for the VAT or whatever they want to charge.

After you registered your business name, you need to register with Firs for VAT purpose as the a business name which could be a venture or an enterprise. The only Tax required to pay to FIRS is VAT. if you have commenced business operation, you need to file your VAT monthly to the FIRS office where your TIN number is located which usually depends on your company address. Failure amounts to penalty of 5,000 every month. Now for TCC, FIRS don't issue Tax clearance certificates to Business names like ventures or enterprises. TCC is issued out to companies i.e limited liability companies....

@ Dieumerci

VAT is just 5% charge on all goods and services. Now i dont know what kind of business you are into but what ever it is, when giving the final price to your customer, you are required to add 5% vat on it which is borne by the buyer/customer.I.E take a look at MR biggs or any of this fast food joint, take a closer look at the receipt and you would see evidence of them charging VAT. You take out your own money from the final price paid, then the 5 percent on it, you go and remit it to firs by filling the Vat returns form and take it to the bank and pay it. Most banks collect taxes on behalf of FIRS

Nope. Tin is free in all FIRS office. Work in to any of the FIRS office with your business certificate, means of id, utility bill, and on your company letter headed paper, you write an application on it. Do not pay for any fee. I know sometimes they give Tips maybe to quicken the process which is normal and but its at your own discretion. Now to register and get your own TIN, it depends on your company address which then determines where and which of the FIRS you would be getting the TIN
