You can try and Google it up too. I know of a Mama here dat only used Aspirin to manage her BP thruout her pregnancy.

why do stillbirths happen?

Hmmmm why do still birth happen?
It's easier to break it down like this
Mother factors (diabetes, obesity, age(above 35) high bp, lack of nutrition, infection etc)
Baby factors(cord round the neck or cord prolapse, lack of nutrition due to iugr, chromosomal abnormalities)
Placenta factors (don't know where to group it) but more like when the placenta detaches early from the uterine wall.
Hospital factors (majorly lack of monitoring)

Summary ; cord, infection ( kinda common), diabetes (baby is used to the high level of glucose imagine the abrupt cut in supply of that glucose he or she is used to), post date etc
Others are smokers or being around chronic smokers, alcohol.

There's something called economic class syndrome... One of the Reason why pregnant women are asked for fit to fly. It leads to pulmonary embolism which can lead to still birth.

Is there a way you can detect if your baby is under duress?

Yes... Fetal kicks. Usually when she has passed due date, or are at risk for still birth, it's best she grabs her jotter and start with the fetal kick counts. Or by the use of sonicaid. that's about it in our country.

Is there a way you can know if negligence from the medical personnels caused it?

Yes u can know... But only very very sensitive women do. If she's being induced especially for someone long pass her due date... it means there shld b some form of fetal heart monitoring... Because the woman have close and very painful contractions she might not know.. So constant monitoring. The sonicaid will beep it's d heart rate is low or high.

(During contraction the baby is squeezed thereby cutting blood to the placenta. For a normal healthy baby he or she will cope well)

Now mrs A might have still birth cos she's obese, doesn't mean Mrs B will.

Other Drs can pls add or remove.

@mama Zaynie, the thing tire me. The heart rate must hav shown something was going wrong. I wonder if baby wasnt monitored effectively during labour. Then ubth will strap you with CTG whether you want it or not.
May be birth asphyxia, cord wrap, placental insufficiency in post term, infection (esply in those that drained liquor days ago without going to hosp), even birth trauma and a host of other things that i don't know.
It's only God that can console Lightedpath but the hosp has alot of explanations to do.

@neks31, Low dose Aspirin is safe in 1st & 2nd trimester for those with/predisposed to preeclampsia. It thins the blood and prevents fatal clots from forming. Cheers

. Not at 28 weeks oh.i stopped mine at 35 weeks cos my delivery was planned at 37 weeks.Meanwhile my oda hospital had a plan of stopping at 36 weeks.

@neks31, yes at late 3rd trimester because it causes premature closure of a vessel in the heart of the baby which we don't want. Your doctor knows this. Best wishes

My advice is once she has passed her due date, she shld b vigilant.
There's indication for induction. Not every woman can b induced.

I agree with poor monitoring. But let's b aware that not everyone can afford "5star" hospitals.
I've worked in a hospital where monitoring a pregnant woman was by the grace of God.
How many women can afford the extra cost of induction sef. Or can endure the pain.? Remember in naija epidural is for selected hospitals

My advice is be aware of ur foetus. I know they teach fetal kick counts during antenatal. We shld practice it.
If u can afford a sonicaid buy it
Ensure u have a hospital close to u, if she feels the kicks ain't like before.. She knows where she can run to or check.

Ps the kicks reduces D closer it is to due date. Cos there isn't enough room like before.

My baby was a pretty calm baby inutero. I had to practically try to tickle him to get him to kick. There are times I wld almost cry because he refused to kick.
