The devil actually lives inside his belly- no consideration for the poor at all. If they had a Way of wiping out the poor, they would have done it. They believe Nigerians are cowards, that all we know how to do best is complain, when we are tired we keep quiet.

70% of electricity users on the grid DO NOT pay at all, it cost less than 1000naira to bypass your electricity meter, yes of course rarely any consequence other than you enjoy free electricity for years to come.
Now 30% pay their electricity bills, sometimes they run out of units and look out at the neighbours who do not pay at all enjoying power supply( they probably plead with them to o help charge their phones). Same 30% change all bulbs to energy saving bulbs and turn off light not in use yet watch their neighbours leave the bulb permanently switched on.
Fashola is fully aware of this ratio and even expressed his frustration. What baffles me is the decision to increase the burden of the unwise 30% who pay their bills. What he demands is that 30% should pay the bill of 100%. This is indeed very silly. I need some common sense hence forth.
Reason why pre-paid meters should be made compulsory, they should distribute it to eveyone, and the associated costs for payment be deducted through recharge mode over span of years. The 70% that you claim do not pay, actually pay unofficially to some officials pockets. What the discos need to do afterwards is to throw out monitoring officers accompanied by law enforcement officers to arrest those who bypass the system.

Why should they pay more? Everyone should pay for what he consumes.

Methinks somehow the downtrodden who are put through the squeeze as a result of the unconscionable and thieving ways of the larger number of our policy-setting civil-servants, politicians and the conniving elite deserve some closure. Admittedly, though, my argument may not have put it sharp right.

About Fashola, you have a point and I quite agree with you.
About "satanic administration", you're wrong. Remember that Jonathan was the one that sold power sector to individuals who have stolen enough money from the National pulse to be able to buy power sector.

Thanks for giving me a good idea...elemi lo ma last grin

In previous years we heard all these business smarts bamboozling us about how increasing the rate will make the sector attractive to investors, how everything will fall in place once the rates are increased citing American example like wages are the same...we re now on probably the fifth rise now and still darkness; they probably all disappeared after chopping their own 'consulting' for Nerc, discos and transcos

Dr Amadi even went on national TV requesting Nigerians should call him directly if they are asked to pay for their meter...2016 zilch!
People are still struggling to get meters, still 'contributing money for transformers

It's one of d reason I dislike dis Fashola of a tin, he's less concern abt the masses, just d way he did in Lagos. Burning down Tejuosho market and building a world class market calling it it's meant for poverty alleviation, tel m if the masses can afford the price of each shop in tejuosho. The place is still empty after a year.

Let me start by saying u don't send a musician to carry out surgery on a patient.

Nigeria tried this b4 with Late Bola Ige (SAN) under OBJ, he made promises he could not keep for lack of Skills needed in the Power sector.

1. It is a Known fact that HYDRO power stations (HYDRODAMs) are a cleaner and more profitable source of power generation.
2. It is a know fact that Nigerians mai power dam (Kanji dam) has never performed to its optimum output (under 70% efficiency) from inception.
3. That thermal power plants have become our main source of power and this negates Mr. President's promises @ Paris on Climate protection and greenhouse gas effect. Also the cost of Gas for powering these thermal plants is an avoidable cost if we revive our HYDRO-dams again.
in turn saving the masses that cost of fuelling Gas added to the cost of power, as the case is today in Nigeria.
4. The list of HYDRO DAMs in Nigeria is listed in the link below
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dams_and_reservoirs_in_Nigeria
its worthy to note that with about 6 Hydro electricity dams, we still cannot get power generation to 10GW(10000MW) which hopefully when combined with the thermal plants would ideally yield 20000MW.

My advice purge yourself of the thought that DISCos and Transmission is the problem with power in Nigeria, as you cannot transmit what you dont have. Face the death in GENCOs,by procuring modern HYDRO electricity power plant and turbines to improve or rebuild our dams as the case maybe. These technologies are functional in countries like China, Brazil,USA, paraguay, RSA etc.....

2. other dams for irrigation can be upgraded to modular hydro power dams of 500-1000MW to supply its host community with electricity. This will help provide jobs to our large number of engineers, drop our demand of gas for poweer generation, reduce or give an affordable cost of power per KWh.

3. This can be achieved without tarriff hikes, via effective billings, by regulated foreign investment,Note; u can have a controlled tarriff of 2-4 cents in a system with Private power generation company....ask the USA, pakistan......

i wish to stop here ........4 now

What Fashola have told you guys is the pure unadulterated truth. No investor will invest anything tangible on the ground under the current tariff regime. It's a bitter pill, but if you want stable electricity in the next few years, then the sacrifice must be made now. Like he said, it will be cheaper than Inverter, Diesel generators etc... in the mid term

Fashola no one is taking any painful pill, Nigerians deserve a fair deal in Electricity tariff, STOP STEALING FROM THE MASSES !!!

I agree.

Nigerians deserve a FAIR DEAL in the post-Jonathan era. Fash isn't ministerial material, he would do better in the private sector as the capitalist he truly is.
It would be a shame If PMB will allow this Fash guy to alienate his government from the Nigerians who voted him in.
Capitalist masquerading as public servant - smh.

Pls call me when electricity tariff don come down. I'll be fine with local concoction (alternative energy) than taking a pill/poison prescribed by this government.

Until all streetlights starts working effectively on electricity, I won't take any government serious.
Re: Accept Electricity Tariff Hike As Painful Pill – Fashola by YaksonFCA(m): 2:07am On Feb 09, 2016
My concern is the efficacy of the current estimated billing system. Though the increase is much the effect on the consumer won't be much because the fixed charge component of the tariff has been removed. Fashola should ensure that the Discos immediately distributes meters to all consumers.
Re: Accept Electricity Tariff Hike As Painful Pill – Fashola by October1960: 2:41am On Feb 09, 2016
Well said below. The group of people in Government and politics in this country for the past 30 years are like vampires and locusts. They have bled this country dry. Now they want the masses to pay to fix it. Why can't they bring the stolen monies from overseas, liquidate their assets overseas and use the proceeds to repair the mess they made!!

ochukoccna:
Not surprised the least by Fashola's comments on the reactions to the hike
If you lived in Lagos when he held sway, his achievements were more elitist than populist
While we might have to pay more for electricity due to the MYTO, how come the tariff went up by 45% in one fell swoop? undecided
In the lead up to this increase, figures of between 20-40% were bandied in the press, yet 45% is now been forced upon us
Let us not forget that the ruling Nigerian elite and their cronies own the energy infrastructure cool cool
This are the very people who have impoverished many with their rape and pillaging of this land
Shame on you if you think it is about Fashola or Buhari
Nah!
It is about an elitist structure who get fat on you and your generations while they perpetuate and replenish on the good of the land. cool cool
Re: Accept Electricity Tariff Hike As Painful Pill – Fashola by tempest01(m): 3:27am On Feb 09, 2016
Why can't they increase the charge, and government subsidize power?

Only for metered connections.

This will force the discos to supply meters to the populace, then the subsidy can stop when the light is steady.

An increase in price without accurate metering is failure.

We have to improve certain deliveries and that is why we have these meetings with the DISCOs. They have to roll out meters, install lines and transformers, among others,” the minister said

Fashola............... Hmmmmm. I'm giving him benefit of the doubt.
