Yes. Thanks for the heads up. Someone already gave me a website to check through. And I was impressed with what I saw. The plan now is to raise about 3.5m between now and Sept. I am sure that will enable me pay for rent and get settled.

I think a policy is coming up to make it one year. Overall Ghana is a nice place to stay and not as stressful as Nigeria buy you must have work legit work doing to keep afloat

Judging from your profession,I will advise you maintain a cheap mini apartment in Nigeria and a semi comfortable apartment in Ghana, and shuttle between the two countries.

This calculation is misleading and wrong. I dont want to sound pessimistic about the guy moving to Ghana ,but I think it is advisable he goes to Ghana for a week before moving and of which I am sure he will change his mind. I am off to my politics section

If you can raise 3.5m here in Nigeria between now and September, why are you bothering yourself with relocation?.Do they pluck money like a leave from tree in Ghana.?.

OUR BELOVED NAIRA IS GRADUALLY TURNING TO ZIMBABWEAN DOLLAR!! EVEN GHANA CEDIS IS WORTH MORE TGAN NAIRA!! MEHNNNNNNN! NO WONDER MY TANZANIAN FRIEND WAS BOASTING TO ME THAT OUR NAIRA IS CLOSE TO THE LEVEL OF THEIR SHILLINGS!
celestialAgent:
you are welcome.

I see you asked about exchange rate, don't be misleaded bro. The exchange rate is not friendly presently.

Yes, it used to be as AzontoGhost said (3000cedi = 152k) but now, the ish is different.

The truth is: as Naira fall against major currencies, it also fall against cedi.

3000 cedi now is equivalent to #270,000 (Withdrawal via ATM).

It sell cheaper at parallel market. You may get 3000cedi for 260,000 if you buy from local money changers.

Your best bet now is MoneyGram (Although ristricted to use for transfer now). Money gram charge 72naira to one cedi. And with that 3000cedi will cost you 216000k.

Caveat, do not rely on exchange rate provided by Google. It is inaccurate at the moment.

Reporting life from Accra

Peace.

Hello guys,

With the current situation of things in the country, I am thinking of shifting base to Ghana for now and watch how things pan out.

I have some questions I'd love travel experts in the house to help me tackle (if you currently leave in Ghana, all the better for me)

1. What documents will I be in need of in the course of this travel.

2. What's the estimated rate for getting good accommodation in Accra - like for over a six month period?

3. We have heard a lot about the power situation over there... is it really all that stable? (because I am into internet marketing).

4. How friendly and peaceful are the folks over there? (very essential as I no like 'kata kata' any day grin)

Please I'd love people familiar with life in Accra, Ghana to drop as much details as possible, so I can make an informed decision and know how to prepare myself. I'd be really grateful for your valued input.

God bless in anticipation.

P.S. Please no snide remarks/comments on this thread, please. Thanks
Sorry OP,but I really have to say something on the cautioned side remarks.......please and please again ,anytime you start feeling and telling everybody you've fallen in love with a local damsel.... please and please again, come back to naija go for deliverance and return back to GH and confirm if the love was with clear eyes.... #my50kobo

I explained the reason to him but he has explained his reasons for moving. Accra is an expensive place to live and if care isn't taken you will spend all ur income on living without any savings.

Bros, I lived in Ghana for four months. Things are very expensive in Ghana. Just change the Cedis to Naira equivalent and you will realize this. Apart from that, Ghana is very peaceful, better Electricity (although cost of Electricity is quite expensive) and very low crime rate. The people are also very friendly. Fuel cost is also expensive, hence transportation. After my Ghana sojourn, I started praying that God should help Nigeria. For me, staying in Nigeria is far better.

@OP,your plan your business!! I make close to $2700 a month doing one online business or the other...So how much u make doesn't matter, before relocating always think about the pros n cons instead of just jumping in a bus n say you're relocating without proper research.Enough said!!

Na wah. Remember when Ghanaians full Naija, were treated as second class citizens, and finally many were forcefully sent back home(Ghana must go). Now Nigerians are seeking solace at Ghana what an irony!. 3000 Ghanaian cedi = N250-270k shocked God!

It shall never be well with the people that messed and are still messing up this great country.

am enjoying this thread and congrats @op for your boldness in relocating from Naija
I see more evil days ahead in this Country

Am also like you, I run an ebusiness that enables me work anywhere in the world.
Though am already married with a Kid.
Am also thinking about relocating to a closer African Country like Ghana or Benin.
My question is what is the security situation like in Accra.
Do they also have area boys or Agberos as we have in Lagos?
If am speaking English with a Ghanaian, would it be easy for Him/Her to know I am a
Nigerian(Yoruba) from my Intonation?

With my experience, been an ECOWAS citizen you can legally reside in Ghana for 90 days and to extend your stay, you must get a resident permit. Life in Ghana is not always rossy as many people thnk, and cost of living is very high. You might have accommodation problem except you have someone that can accommodate you. Options of hotel is never wn option, as it cost a lot. I can only suggest travelling to Ghana for just a tourism purposes and not for permanent stay. I have been there more than four times. Anyway for your trip, you only need your valid international passport and vaccination certificate (Yellow card) and some cash.

Light is good here in Accra but the bill is expensive.

Accommodation is reasonably cheap if you earn in Cedi. It also depend on area.

Ghanians are friendly. Lot of girls..

Good road, reasonable security level.

And lastly, the sun is hot here..
but Gh is a lowlying area prone to flood, despite their good drainage system.

Why not go to South Africa if you make that amount in a month and enjoy your life. Stable light, good road, good weather (no heat), quiet environment etc. South Africa is better if you have stable source of income to live in the city.

1. To travel to Ghana, you need only your international passport.

2. Just like in Nigeria, Gh landlords generally won't take 6 months rent. Most of them will ask you to rent for 3 years upfront, 2 years if you're lucky. Unless you will stay in a serviced apartment which is way more expensive.
When you get to Ghana, just walk along the streets of Accra you will see small sign boards with phone nos of accomodation agents and the costs of the apartments. I can't say how much for the apartments because I don't know what you like. visit www.tonaton.com (website like olx) and search for apartments. Don't worry, Gh is not like naija, 98% of listings there are legit. You can search here from naija and make your arrangements before coming.

3. When I first came here we had 24/7 power, but since like last year, the economy became very bad and light started NEPAing. Although unlike naija, they actually released timetable online so you will know when the light will come and go in your area. Well, since November last year, the light offs have stopped. there's now constant light but unlike before, they may take the light for a few hours like twice a week.

4. Ghanaians are friendly. Very friendly but are skeptical about Naija people (understandably).

3years upfront rent. WTF is that. shocked

Thanks for your input. But please, what exactly do you mean? I am ready to hear from different sources; that's why I put this up here in the first place.

What they didn't tell you is that feeding in Ghana is hellish. Trust me, you will remember your homeland. A can of Amstel Malt is 4 Ghana Cedis, can you beat that?. Bathroom slippers is 4 Ghana Cedis, Big Eva Bottle water is 2.5 Ghana Cedis. I can list it on and on. Ghana is not what it used to be, things has changed. I don't like Ghana and I mean no insult. Nigeria economy is still very much prettier than that of Ghana. The only country you can compare Nigeria with in Africa is South Africa and I stand to be corrected and open to be instructed. Just prepare to eat their Okra soup with Tilapia fish, Palm nut soup, Kenke, Banku, Tuna fish, etc. O boy, naija food cost wella. You go miss home die, couple with the sun eh! Kwame and Nana go use you eat their breakfast in the morning, even Kojo and Mensa go do fake resident permit for you if you wan open bank account there. Naija boys don spoil GH. Beg no go Circle, Osun, Kole Gono, Labaddin beach, Adabraka, etc for night oo! Achama is a dangerous place for a cool headed guy like you. Let me greet you in a Phanti language, "Akwaaba!".
