Introverts enjoy (and crave) the company of the self. So even though the innate instinct to 'mingle' and 'have personal close relationships' kick in, we are soon back to our default and hence running away from others eventually.

But introverts too need friends. So we must learn to carefully pick a few trusted ones who will also understand us and allow us retreat into our shells when we want. And if it's a romantic relationship, God help that other fellow to not be co-dependent else.... Frustration. But we must learn to be considerate in our friendships.

I've had a couple of failed friendships where the other parties got frustrated about me. One minute I'm super kind and going out of my way to help them, the next minute I'm turning down lunch or movies or hugs. It freaks them out but I can hardly help it.
So for an introvert, it's just the way it is.

Introverts and the Social Networks:

Social network can serve both as a bane and blessing for an introvert. As an introvert, I have been able to weigh my "comfortability" with different social platform and have reasons to back my findings.

FACEBOOK: This particular one is a nightmare for introverts including me. From the word "FACE", there is already fidgeting on the part of most introverts. Secondly, considering that most people found there are your friend in the "real" world and will not hesitate to make post especially to your new post or picture. It is incumbent for you to acknowledge their post at least with a like. Anyway, I realize the facebook platform shakes my wit and render me "less happy" most time. I first off all deactivated for a time then finally deleted it totally. So far so good, I am glad I took that decision.

NAIRALAND: Ok. Honestly, you have more control on what you want to see. One good attribute of this platform is your identity is hidden under a username. Your friends and family will hardly find out your next post. Also, It is a faceless community which is an "Introvert El-Dorado". So far so good for me

TWITTER: Another social platform paradise for introverts. Faceless and intuitive best qualify this platform. Most introvert like deep and short thoughts penned down in writing. So this is an opportunity to grow our intellect by following only those things that matters. In summary, we have the key in our very own hands.

WHATSAPP: Our phone numbers is likened to our physical address. Meaning it is very personal to us. So we take good care to involve only those that will make us comfortable and not necessarily draw us out from our comfort zone. For example, I have not been in touch with a colleague since when we parted ways in the University in 2010. But recently, he got my contact and was throwing the "what", "where" questions all around me. How am I to deal with this situation, I asked myself? But anyway, I handled it well.

INSTAGRAM: This is "hellish" for introverts. It goes against the introvert tenets of humility according to my understanding. The platform was designed to show, or should I say, intimate the rest of the world with what you have or as the case may be, what you dream of having. I have never opened that platform personally, for I see no attraction.

These are just my thoughts. Some may be flawed and some may pass the validity test.

Ain't trying to be bossy, but Nairaland is a better Community and whereas not every body uses WhatsApp and few people like me dislike using WhatsApp. Are you currently in any WhatsApp group, what's your experience?

I perfectly understand your concern about whatsapp group as most times it suddenly becomes redundant. This is based on my experience but lets see what useful idea others might bring. Between lets do something that we make this thread more fun.

I suggested that everyone should go and do a personality test and post the result here so we get to know each other better but no one replied Disappointed though.

The problem is that majority of the introvert's who come into the lounge see it as a platform to just post their experience being an introvert and do not see the need to improve in certain areas. The introvert weekly challenge would have helped alot of us, but as you said the response is always damn disappointing. Don't really know what to do now.

people are always complaining, they don't understand y I love staying indoor.i always tell them am happier that way. sometimes I want to step out, go and see the world just move around atleast spent seven lecture free hour outside still haven't succeded in doing that.
my family members have resigned, they have tried still didn't work.
am quiet, and somepeople just love taking advantage of that fact. I hate being close to people because if I become close to them icant tell them to their face how annoying they are

It is more fun to watch them exhibit their annoying side than to avoid them completely. I had issues with my boss who happens to be a talkative bordering on my too much silence, she was of the opinion that I don't have people's skill and it may affect my career growth.

First thing she did is appointing me to preside over a meeting where there are seasoned professionals with donkey years of experience than mine. I had to re adjust myself and face the challenge head on.

It was not easy at first but now I am fairing better and thank her for that single move. So try in your capacity to mingle with people, if you can't take them all at once, talk with an individual at a time, trust me they are going to connect at a deeper level.

Being an introvert is cool when you mix with people and later come back home to recharge.

I guess u were terrified, am still wondering how I will do my seminal or project defense in final year, I pray I don't faint, I have never addressed a crowed before. and I feel I cant.
my roommate is a chatter box, always talking which drains the energy out of me, sometimes I wonder if she doesn't realize that am tired of talking. we are friends so I can't tell her to shut up cause it will hurt her and I will end up feeling like a bad person.
she is a complete extrovert and sometimes walking with her is frustrating she is either jumping, singing or talking and I keep wondering wts wrong with her.
so far only the only person growth I have achieved is being able to walk on the street alone without having someone I can walk with. when I recently gained admission missed some lectures cause I had No one to walk with. when I walk alone I feel like the attention of the world is on me and I can't stand attention.
my next step in personal growth is going to the market alone. wish myself success

It was quite terrifying during my project pre defense, I nearly develop brain block, my mouth nearly lost it saliva but I didn't let that get to me as I drove home my point cos I had adequate preparation before hand.

The first 30 seconds might appear like the whole world is crashing on you, those eyes will be pinching, you just have to keep your cool and learn to control your breadth, you should talk loud so they don't ask you to repeat yourself, see your supervisors as human with their own flaws and don't fear at all. Just prepare well and don't cram everything.
