Hello,

Bow Valley College is a very good college and I would suggest that if you have your way do not grad in Niaja as Canada do not recognize most of our courses. For example,I was at U of Calgary to make inquiries about a program and the woman asked where did I obtain my first degree? I told her Nigeria. She replied sorry we do not accept some courses offered like Use of English is not recognized. And other courses, I need to provide the syllabus/ outline for the course. You will be so mad with the Nigerian educational system when you get here. I will suggest you apply for the Diploma program which is a 2 year course compared to a certificate program which is a year. As for me, I am to start in Spring 2017, though I hold both first and second degrees but I need a Canadian certificate to achieve my aim. However, note that BWC is in Calgary Alberta and it is a little expensive compared to Toronto.

Good day Bro, I assume you are in canada already. Please I have some questions to ask and I'll be very grateful if you can do justice to them.

Firstly I was of the opinion to use an agent for my visa process, but according to things. have read online, i guess agent are not trustworthy, but I'd like to ask your opinion..did you use any agent or otherwise?

Secondly,if I'm going for the winter program(2018), cos I really want to take my time, am been skeptical about using an agent, and if am doing it myself, i have to take my time..My question when do i start the processing? as against starting in MAY for the Fall program

Thirdly, how do you receive money over there from nigeria..I cant just say i've searched the whole internet..but belive me have done a great deal of searching on this..but Its not just clear..

Please dont mind my use of english..there is no way to just express myself best than the way i've done..

I'll be looking forward to your response. thank you

Mississauga is boring. I heard Toronto is the place to be

For those that have sucessfully applied and gotten spousal work permit, please can you list the documents you used. Someone is seriously in need of it.

Is change of name mandatory for the woman?

Change of name is not mandatory

Good people of Nigeria, I haven't posted here in a while. I'm happy to see that many people are still going the route of studies in their quest to live the Canadian dream. Studying here does not guarantee a good job when you graduate but it sure makes it easier to fit into the system. I've said this before, please only study relevant courses where you can get a job.

A little update on my journey. I came in Jan 2015, studied IT project Management at Seneca for 1 year (8 months plus coop). Got a good job in December 2015 before i graduated and I've been working there till now. Got a pay raise so now in the 6 digits but that's not me trying to brag. It took hard work and dedication. I have kept my eyes on the ball.

Even though you are a student, know why you are here. If the goal is to remain here then make sure you have all the information you need early. Don't wait till you finish school to start running from lawyer to lawyer and wasting money. Like i said, i arrived Jan 2015, I completed IELTS in April 2015 (scored maximum points in each area), completed WES by June 2015, applied for Ontario nomination by November 2015, got nominated and have now successfully applied for my PR.

Stay focused, stay informed and study/work hard. I wish everyone success in their journey and a big thanks to all those who responded to my questions and gave advice along the way.

God bless

I am guessing you have previous experience in IT before taking the program. Scoring max in ielts is also not an ordinary feat. You have really done well for yourselve despite ontario being a very competitive province..this shows that everything is possible for those that are focused.. Goodluck for the future!

Thanks. Here's the tricky bit. My first degree is in IT however i chose to go the marketing route as my career. I spent 12 working in marketing as an Event Manager before coming to study Project Management. So, yes i had a first degree in IT but you don't need IT experience to work as a project manager. Another lucrative career here is Business Analysis and you need zero IT background for that as well. Your resume and reality are two different things so it's all about packaging smiley

Brilliant. 12 years as a manager; you be oga madam. I have always heard about the business analysis career with a lot of Nigerians and Indians making good money from it. Just hearing about IT prj management. Thanks for your response.

In addition, all future student should endevour to take programs that have a coop option. Canadian work experience no matter how small in a professional field is very valuable.

It's not guaranteed. There are tons of people who studied here still on minimum wage. It's a bonus but not guaranteed.

Nothing is guaranteed anywhere in the world. A degree/diploma is no longer a meal ticket for life, but it still works with good preparation, making informed decisions, luck and prayers. Like she mentioned, there are indeed lots of graduates (even canadian born) combining part time minimum wage jobs, but that does not necessarily mean everyone's case would be like that. That is why I mentioned earlier that joj has done really well for herself in a very competitive economy (note canadians are not pushover-studywise, they are smart).

I dont think the type of degree matters with most IT related jobs; except the job type is highly specialized like some careers in software engineering or computer science.

Nice one. I have cbap business analysis professional. What do you think are my chances. Go the study route or just apply. Which schools will also pay for a diploma like course?

Good. I don't know if anyone hired from Nigeria so far. You can try Express entry and the provincial nominations. SINP seems to be on fire now. Else the quickest way to land here physically is as a student. There are a few colleges teaching business analysis but since you have cbap might as well do something different like business intelligence or data modeling. Those are the hottest roles right now.

All the best

I am sorry for the late response. It's quite expensive as the 2 years Diploma program is C$29,150 and each semester is roughly C$7,500. You have a deadline to complete your tuition each semester
Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by faskare: 3:08am On Oct 24, 2016
So sorry bro for my late response. I won't advice you to use an agent it's better you fill the form yourself and this you can do by going through the site to gather your info. Also, I would suggest you start your application next year Jan or Feb so that you can have ample time for your study permit application.

Lastly, I have been sending money to Canada even before I moved it and there was no pressure on the dollar as at then. I'm sponsoring myself

Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by bolajibreeze: 6:03pm On Oct 27, 2016
Hello, please I need an urgent response. I was in FUNAAB for 2 years before I transferred to a college in Canada. I was looking to go to university but would need to transfer my credit. I didn't inform the school before I left because I had no time, I sent my mum to the school and they told her some ridiculous stuff that I had to collect relief letters before I had left and I have to now write jamb again after keeping a 3pt gp not owing fees and paying all dues, what do I need jamb for in Canada, I just need to transfer my GP from one school to another. Is it legality for a school to withhold your transcript. I am not only irritated but completely annoyed by what's going on. Any experiences or advice will be appreciated.

Thank you
