I ordered for 50 noilers online from www.poultryplaza.com and received my order the third day after the order. It was due to my booking late on Wednesday 26th.

Everything was smooth. Total cost for 50 noilers including transportation to Lokoja cost N4,400 and N65 for access bank gateway charge for using the atm platform.
Grandtotal=N4,465.00

Though the cost of noilers rose sharply on friday to N120.00

Attached are some pictures of the poultry house.

I will be summarizing the cost so far outside the housing and hope to see the performance of noilers over the next five months.

Before arrival i purchase the following drugs and feeds
a. Keproceryl (Antibiotic) =N1,100.00
b. Prococ (Anti-Coccidiosis) =N1,100.00
c. Powervit (Multivitamin) =N960.00

d. Vitalfeed Broiler Starter = N3650.00

Day 1 and 2: I have applied Keproceryl (Antibiotic) and Powervit (Multivitamin) at the rates of 2ml of each to 2 litres of water
This will enable the chicks to overcome the stress of transportation and change of environment

you are doing a great work, but I have some little observations though, first of all I that space is too much for the number of birds u purchased, I will advice u demarcate it from the middle, then the feeder at this age, I will advice it should be tray for easy access to the feed, the feeder that you are using will not permit them to feed freely and easily, then once the space is bn reduced, maybe the u can also remove some of the lanter as 2 or 3 should be enough. Pls this is just an observation. thanks

Thank you for your observation.

The poultry house dimension is about 25 feet by 6 feet and was demarcated into two places.

Temperature of the room average about 35 degrees and the lantern there are just three. The chicks sleep in between them.

The space is relatively large but since the chicks are very active, I left it. The papers were put on a rice husk but I will be removing them today. The chicks prefer to stay directly on the rice husk and will scatter off the papers whenever they have access to the rice husk.

I will upload some videos later on this.

I notice the chicks are taking too much water and sleep a lot especially during the evenings.

Well if they sleep a lot, check the temperature to be sure..
To me the brooding room is too big..

The brooding room was designed for 100 chicks but since the temperature of the room is still within the 35 degree temperature, I left it that way. I will get another room thermometer to be sure.

I have changed the feeders to trays this morning and these chicks could be stubborn. Scattering the feed by their legs and still scavenging for that elusive meal.

What I did with when I raised my broilers two years ago was that I expose them to sun during the day by raising the sack covering the house.

I see these young chicks sunbathing in the sun. It's the same with this noilers.

Day 3: powervit (1ml) and keproceryl (1ml) administered in 750ml of water

Late in the afternoon, I will change to ordinary water when this drug mix would have finished.

My goal is to domesticate these birds when they are four to five weeks old.

I would be switching to organic antibiotics then by feeding the chicks with grinded dry moringa leaf incorporated into their feeds at the ratio of 600g to 25kg feed.

So you go them at 88 Naira each? That's great. I had to go to the next town from me to get mine at N80 each, and spent like N1,000 on transportation. Next time, I will just order. Thanks for this thread.

lol! That's the problem I have with my Noilers too. Noilers are scavengers, so it is in their system. They would scatter the food...looking for food, when the food is right there in front of them.

They love sunbathing. I love watching them. Overall, they are very active birds. Have they started running like vampires in True Blood? And they also would start flying up and down around the second week.

That's great. You got them at the price I usually get mine when I go all the way to the hatchery. I wonder how your suppliers make money then. Maybe they buy at a reduced price at Amo though.

My chicks are doing really great. They had coccidiosis about two weeks ago, but that was totally my fault. I was looking for money for feed up and down and neglected cleaning their cage for a while when it was due for cleaning. But other than that, they are super great. They are very active.

That means you didn't treat coccidiosis on time. Noilers are normally treated against coccidiosis and Newcastle.

There are as strong as the local indigenous chicks. In various studies, they have a higher survival rate than the local indigenous chicks even without any form of care.

Late in the afternoon, I will change to ordinary water when this drug mix would have finished.
I observe the 51 noilers consume about 1500ml or 1.5 litres of water in 24 hours. Its incredible. So i just mix the drugs for half (750ml) of water which will be consumed and finished by evening and then give them ordinary water which will take them to the next day.

Their feeding is high like broilers as they eat overnight if there is electricity light or even lantern light. I normally power off my generator by 11pm to sleep as Lokoja does not have power supply overnight since June this year. Its so annoying.

Lokoja gets an average of 4 hours (10-2pm) in the day and 4 hours (6-10pm) in the evening. Some days just 4 hours and other days none at all. On another note, I will be getting a 10kva dual carburetor to cushion the high cost of petrol used in powering my generator. It consumes about 5.5 litres of petrol in about 4 hours.

Below are pictures of the measuring spoon.

Studies show pawpaw, bitter leaf and neem tree can be used to treat coccidiosis in poultry but not as effective as the chicks treated with anti coccidiosis drug like anticox.

Summary is below
Effect of Leaves Extract of Carica papaya (pawpaw) , Vernonia amigdalina (bitter leave)  and Azadiratcha indica (neem tree or dogoyaro) on the Coccidiosis in Free-range Chickens

Parasitological Results
The survivabilities of V. amigdalina (64%), C. papaya (72%) and A. indica (61%) treated chicks were statistically similar; but significantly lower than the coccidiostatic group survivability (84%) and higher than survivability of the control group (59%). The post-mortem of dead birds revealed hemorrhages or thickening whitish mucosa and cores of clotted blood in the caeca which specific for Eimeria tenella infection. The number of bloody diarrhea and the lesion score followed almost the same trend.

I will try to go organic after five weeks especially on the antibiotic area by using some dry plant leaves like pawpaw, bitter leaf, scent leaf and moringa oleifera.
This should be given from time to time.

These noilers will be freed into the compound after five weeks of age.

I asked this question on the Xmas Broilers Broading Thread "Anyone know the difference between white vs black/white cockerels?''

I found this out from one of the hatcheries

White cockerels are Isa Brown Males while
Black/White cockerels are Bovan Black Males
Brown cockerels are Bovan Brown Males

Why the difference in prices? The answer is
1. The Bovan breeds (black/White or Brown cockerels) are heavy breeds and are larger in size than the Isa Brown Males (White cockerels)
2. The Isa Brown Males are much more in numbers than the Bovan Males

What i now know is that All cockerels are just male version of layers.
Maturity is 6 months with good feeding but some farms sell as cheap as N10-N20) for the white cockerels.

Okay. How much do black/white cockerels go for? Do you have an idea? I wanna get like 300 and try selling them off at 4 weeks old. I wanna do this every month from January.

Some top farms in Oyo State sell the white at N10.00 but the black and white are normally gotten through Zartech and Chi farms. The cost i see online is currently at N70.00 each. It should be cheaper if you have a direct source.

Noilers are highly susceptible to coccidental from week 4 -12. I know this cos I've raised them, supplied to my clients, and they all had the same cocci issue. They're not as disease resistant as we think them to be between the ages of 4 and 12weeks. once they go past that mark, they become highly resistant to any disease. Trust me, I know. I subjected my birds to a very dirty environment for experimental purposes; I allowed them feed and sleep in a very unkempt environment just to induce cocci but nothing...They were as fit as a fiddle. Saying they're very disease resistant from day one, to me is like counting your eggs before they hatch; they'll surprise you. At the very tender age, you need to boost their immunity; not necessarily with antibiotics cos they'll need it in the nearest future.

There was a power outage about an hour ago and the noilers were scared to death with chorus of sounds.
I immediately put a rechargeable lamp for the time being while refueling the kerosene lantern they were used to.

They ran away to the other end of the house when I drop the rechargeable lamp on the room floor. While I was trying to put on my generator, Phcn restored light. I meet the chicks on the rechargeable lantern when I came back to the house.

I now see the need to buy a rechargeable bulb so that when there is a lights out, at least the chicks will not be thrown into darkness.

I saw one in an electronic store yesterday which lasts four hours after power out.
