What lead to the coup? Then Nnamdi Azikwe is the President and Tafa Balewa prime minister, this fool kill all Yoruba and Hausa leaders then and spare all the Igbos before he was arrested and killed.

No wonder their cannot be trusted again.
Truth is the IBO man's greed for total control somewhat led to some F up's, But the northerners have taken it too far. The northerners are the most greedy and sentimental sets of individuals you would fine in Nigeria Today. I see no reason whybthe IBO nation shouldntbbe granted BIAFRA if a referendum can effect that, cos Murtala Muhammed wanted to opt out of the union before, but he couldn't succeed. We need each other, but if we would keep having endless arguements, fights, issues, isn't it better to go our seperatenwaus after all couples divorce if they no longer fancy the marriage. Food for thoughts

We all know that Kaduna started the coup because of the deep seated corruption in the north and west, he wanted a better nation for his people but the stark arrogance with which he went about the whole coup incited hatred in the north. Weldon, corruption was only in d north and west? and all d Easterners re saint?. Even till now all d corrupt leader re from north and west

Justdulla, how dare you call an unstable man as Nzeogwu the hero of democracy. A man who lost it and went on a shooting spree and leading the bloodiest coup the country ever witnessed. And who told you everyone killed in that coup was corrupt? He even killed the wife of one of his targets. Nzeogwu was mad. He wanted to change the corrupt system but he took it too far. There was too much killing in that coup. Too much senseless bloodshed.
he wasn't the only one that pulled the triggers nah. Even he lamented that some overzealous officers took matters too far.

Madam which my people. It it cos am defending Ibos, you now assume am Ibo as well. I laff. Am from the north, a dull fledged one at that. But thats doesnt mean when i see the truth, i shouldn't say it.
Do you know the Idea of the counter coup was to seperate Nigeria, Murtala Muhammed was supposed to assume leadership and do that, but since Gowon was ahead, they settled for him. But power got to his gead, he disrespected the Aburi Conference, the British and westerns wanted the oil, they gave him left over weapons from world war to and he went to a needless war that should have been settled amicably.

You have just given yourself away. cheesy You are definitely not from the North. wink Maybe you come from one of those border communities near the Middle-belt states, that share the same footpath with the SE communities. You are also a very poor student of political history, as your conclusion about Gowon's handling of the Aburi conference shows. Now take your keyboard, go and sit in one corner and watch your cartoons. undecided

Do you know Buhari as well is secretly pursuing the Northern Agenda. He is the helmsman he showcases oblivious attitude as one who isn't aware of what's going on,but he is the masterminded, his the one that sends the hatchet men and when it boomerangs they take the fall.
That's how some people were saying that in 83 Idiagbon was in charge,I just laff. Buhari has always been in charge but lurks in the shadows.

No, you are the one that needs to shut his trap! angry Gowon came back from Aburi and enacted Decree 8 which gave Ojukwu 80% of his demands in Aburi. A wise man would have grabbed it, accepted its implementation and gone back to ask for the remaining 20%. That decree gave legal backing or legitimacy to most of the demands made in Aburi.

But what did your Ojukwu do? He rejected a decree outright that would have led to the implementation of the greater part of what was discussed at Aburi, ignored all entreaties to be reasonable, annexed or appropriated all FG resources & property in his region, and declared a war that ended up taking over 3 million of his people, to the other side of eternity. sad

the reality you avoiding is that it is that same power of the gun that will eventually destroy Nigeria. 46 years after the war we have not gotten anything right. We are still playing politics of 1960. If you think this democracy would last forever. Then your Alice in wonderland

A coup organized by majority Igbo military officers targeted and killed ONLY Yoruba and Hausa political leaders/officers, and yet our Igbo brethren want us to believe that the coup was not motivated by tribal sentiments. Think about it for just 5 minutes and tell us what you would think (in ALL HONESTY) if the REVERSE was the case.
