The Reason? Education. That's the solitary reason. And this lack of education— Western education and not Islamic education— is being enabled by the Northern Elites.

Because with education, the Northern elites and politicians will not be able to mentally subjugate the masses especially during elections. With education, the Northern masses are more likely to become economically empowered and hence less dependent on this politicians and elites. Sanni, simply put, your people, culturally or genetically, have consistently lacked the traits of resourcefullness and self reliance to measure with their southern counterparts. Part of the south that had nothing after the civil survived and became the cynosure of all eyes in Africa.

When you educate the youths, they are empowered, and can't be brainwashed by neither politicians nor religious bigots/ extremists to take up arms, they will know the value of human live.
