This is an old post but I would still contribute.
I appreciate all the calculations and suggestions of population of sicker per plot, per acre and per hectare of land but I must be honest with you, having 150 suckers planted on (100*50)ft is not pragmatic.

This is a kind of article that encourage novice to go into farming after he must have done the calculation on paper, see the possible profit without having understanding of the principle behind successful cultivation of plantain.

All this is google farming, get a piece of land, practise before you can pen down the outcome of your experiment.

If your plan is to have about 12.5 dozens of plantain on a plot of land, it won't yield - they will be overcrowded.

It depends on whether you are intercropping or not
If you are intercropping plantain,the spacing of 3m by 3m or more should be used but if its plantain only,900 suckers on 4000sq m (150 per plot) is okay.

Making use of good suckers is very important and can make or mar your plantain business venture.

This Top.bunchy virus disease were spread by the use of the traditional suckers so next you are using the traditional suckers,you might have to think twice of the disease it can transfer to the farm.
If you have plantain farms in ogun state,check for symptoms ( i am going to be showing you what you need to look for on your farm) and if you are establishing your plantain farm in Ogun state,you must factor this into consideration before venturing into this business.

If you use the standard spacing 2m by 2m and proper management (manure application,adequate weeding, etc) are done,yield will continue to increase.
