Is the atheists mind free enough to question atheism.

This is a question which I've thought to be valid for a very long time. I decided to create this thread because atheism seem to be partial in its popular slogan "Question everything".

Atheism is usually portrayed as "true freedom" by its adherents. It is ususlly promoted as the most rational worldview, as the default worldview. Some atheists have claimed that "we were all born atheists".
This could be due to the idea that "true freedom as well as progress comes with the rejection of dogma, questioning long-held beliefs and the benefits of criticism".

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4014016_1203889711153861451720936240045213250362501o_jpeg4f6aff35b721e5ac3edf7cf4c753f218

Atheists usually claim that their conversion or worldview is solely based fields such as: reason, logic, scientific findings, rationality e.t.c (never emotions), because they know these fields are usually validated by almost every human and are the baselines for development.
These fields thrive best when "nothing is protected from criticism", in other words, when " EVERYTHING IS QUESTIONED".

Except the meaning of EVERYTHING has changed, everything could imply ALL things, all beliefs.
There are several beliefs a lot of humans have held from birth. Many of these beliefs have shaped the way we live as humans. As the popular saying goes "You are what you believe", many humans have acted out both good and evil based on what they believe. Casualties, slavery, racism e.t.c have been blamed on certain specific beliefs.

As a matter of fact, majority of the casualties in history history have been due to what certain people believe and hold to be true. Many atheists claim that religious beliefs held by certain religious people have been the cause of several deaths in history. Religious people also argue that atheistic beliefs have caused much more deaths than all religion put together and fortunately, historical evidence seems to be on the side of the religious.

Atheism and religion however are not alone in the accusation of beliefs that have caused problems throughout the course of humanity, there have been other spheres of life that have been used to justify evil. To make my post shorter, I'll mention a few:

1. Politics: Perhaps politics and the struggle for power has been the biggest cause of evil throughout the history of humanity. Several lives have been lost and is still being lost in the name of politics. In Nigeria for instance, peoples lives are toyed with in the name of politics. A lot of Great people who naturally are interested in governance have dissociated themselves from the dirty game of politics.
When theists put it to atheists that atheism has been the cause of the biggest atrocities in human history, atheists cast the blame on politics. They claim political ideologies such as "communism" was responsible for those atrocities. However, I proved here that atheism under the guise of communism was responsible for the worst atrocities in human history.

2. Marriage: A lot of people have been killed in the name of marriage. Domestic violence has taken the lives of several humans. Many people who claim to love themselves forever have turned on themselves to inflict pain and suffering, distressing legal cases and ultimately death.

Although our generation seems to be watering down the sanctity of marriage, marriage is still very much popular among almost all cultures of humanity.

3. Science: Science has a lot of credit to take for almost all the technological advancement of our world. Theists majorly and a handful of non-theists have been instrumental to the rapid growth of science. However, there has been evils such as racism which was carried out in the name of science.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_racism
In the late 1800s, until the 1980s, no that is not a typo, the 1980s, science was used to justify and support racism and other things. The United States sterilized women up until the 1980s for displaying “bad genes.” An example of “bad genes” would be something such as having a child out of wedlock.

There is another interesting term in scientific racism…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_racism#Eugenics
It is called Eugenics. Eugenics was the science of the day. It was the future of humanity. In eugenics, we could perfect the human race by eliminating “negative traits,” or “bad genes.” Does this sound familiar? There is a slightly famous event based on this science. It is called the Holocaust. Atheists claim that Hitler was using religion. No, Hitler was using science. He was perfecting the human race by eliminating the bad genes…by killing anyone that had them. The Nazis also preformed scientific experiments on people to “advance science.”

Atheists will probably argue that we NOW know this is bad science and that science has come a long way. That is true, but there is still bad science and a way of presenting facts to make a specific argument. In addition to that, scientists say unscientific things, which are construed as science by people that are not smart enough to actually look it up .

4. Sports: As lovely and binding as sports is to humanity, lives have been lost in the name of sports. Apart from fan riots and clashes, racism and discrimination, many have paid the ultimate price in the name of sports. Some examples are shown below:

Few weeks ago, a Chelsea fan kills himself after defeat to Barcelona.

Fan commits suicide over Arsenal FC

Manchester united fan commits suicide

Liverpool fan kills himself

Brazilian fan, others die from heart attacks in football game

And other stories of depression and suicide in sports

5. Culture and tradition: Several cultures and tradition have claimed several lives, especially in Africa. When I was younger, I was taught of how Mary Slessor, a christian missionary, stopped the killing of twins somewhere in Nigeria.
Till date, their are still some horrifying practices all over Africa, Some religious groups kicking against bad culture, Some cultures which can be argued to be misogynistic.

Many people have been stoned to death, body parts mutilated, tribal clashes e.t.c all in the name of culture and tradition.

A lot of people blame religion for altering African culture, but fail to realize that some of these cultures were bad and harmful to us. While religions such as Christianity have been blamed for Africas terrible cultures, several positive marks of Christianity to sub-saharan Africa have been documented.

Interestingy, all the above mentioned areas of life are still being blamed for evils committed by humanity.. And this brings me to the main point of this thread. Do atheists really question everything? Do they question these areas of life like they do to religion?

Do they question marriage for instance? A practice which they were brought up to believe or do they just play their part without questioning the things they don't want to question. Below is a rare example of an atheist on nairaland attempting to question marriage.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/6877364_img20180324152510_jpeg721cef792e0ca942b140368337a42ede

I agree that marriage did not begin with Christianity, but why do atheists fail to question the very essence of marriage undecided.
Why not have kids with every beautiful woman willing to have sex with one. Why do female atheists care about body count undecided Are we no longer upgraded version of animals?
Why don't atheists question all these social perception of morality? Do atheists really have a yardstick for being moral, if so who determines what morality should be served undecided if their morality is subjective, what grounds do they have to blame another human for murder undecided

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4179600_s8613510edit_jpeg23d9c58678516ec7fe6d950d24acdb09

Do atheists bother to question morality or do they just go with the flow undecided

Its clear that the only thing atheists seem to question is religion, other areas of life get a free pass. I don't think any atheist has been observed to question anything else other than religion, at least not on this forum.
This is worse than being selective in questioning since the only thing questioned is religion.
This makes atheism seem like the smug sense of worship of ones own superiority over religious people. To the atheist, religion is the greatest singular cause of humanity's problems. Eradicate religion, and we will have a perfect or near-perfect society.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/4284754_s17716603edit_jpeg9ab558c6ad86ebb9149411d826434815

In reality, the ones who question reality and others areas of reality are theists. This is why religious people have always majorly been the forerunners of development.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4284773_s18882728edit_jpeg8f3fdc2ad228e68b8fbf17db9fc76399
www.nairaland.com/attachments/4279387_s10974680edit_jpeg5a322312cb1b472b5e850d32ed3bdf8f

Atheism seems to be fixated on religion alone. They probably see religion as the greatest evil of society. And this explains why large portions of atheists focus on ridiculing religious people and their beliefs.
We can deduce that they are being dishonest because they claim everything must be questioned and then go ahead to question only religion while ascribing immunity to other areas of life, making them free from the questioning process. They also make the "atheistic worldview" itself free from the questioning process. Atheists never question atheism, except a few honest ones whose words are quoted in one of my threads.

I want to urge atheists, in their quest for truth, to try to question atheism and all other ways of life they were "indoctrinated" with, as well as those areas of life that has been and continue to be hijacked for the sake of evils. In my opinion, this will balance the wheels of their cart on their journey to truth. I also hope they don't turn this to one of those cases where they bash me and my religion. grin

Bless you...

Naah, I don't think that will be necessary Seun. In case you haven't noticed, I'm not here to win arguments. I'm not here to win converts either. Now or in a 100 years, with or without me, atheism will continue to be a minority worldview. It's self-defeating. I'm here to make certain points, concerning atheism especially. I'm almost certain about its effectivity too.

Every well meaning and reasonable person on this section must have observed that when atheists push their arguments, they coat it with all sorts of sugary names, pro-science, rational etc. However when they are being defensive, they retreat and tell you atheism is just a rejection of beliefs. First, here is an atheist blaming not only religion but politics and greed also for Nigeria's problems-

quote author=CAPSLOCKED post=65741314]

PROSCRIBING THEM AS TERRORISTS IS NOT ENOUGH TO DENT THEIR INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION.

THEY'RE MINDFUL, PROUD PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER, AND ARE NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT KOBOS FROM SPONSORS TO THROW BOMBS AT EACH OTHERS, LIKE THE NORTHERNERS.

IT'S JUST A SHAME THAT OUR ONCE MIGHTY RICH, PEACEFUL, AND POWERFUL NATION HAS BEEN TORN APART BY GREED, HATRED, TRIBALISM, RELIGION, AND POLITICS. undecided

When I have time, I will search and post more

I know you can almost never find a thread on this section which an atheist created to blame any other thing apart from religion. I also know that you'll rarely find any atheist here blaming anything else other than religion. However im willing to accept atheist quotes. When quoting, refer me the thread link where atheists have criticized any other thing apart from religion. I'm interested in exposing the real intent behind those quotes and to let people know that for every time an atheist becomes honest enough to criticize anything else other than religion, he must have criticized religion a 1000 times.
