In cases like hers, the saving grace is always the need by some men who have to marry "properly".

Some men would marry anyone who fits into their desired social/academic status, regardless of beauty.

Some men don't care about your status as long as there is a living brain in the head, and a very beautiful appearance.

Now imagine if she had no fancy education or fancy job or entrepreneurship, that would have been too much an obstacle to climb in the harsh struggle for a life mate.
