Politics / “yahaya Bello Took $720k From State Coffers To Pay His Child’s School Fees” by samebony1: 8:45am On Apr 24
Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi, withdrew $720,000 from the state’s coffers to pay his child’s school fee in advance.

Olukoyede spoke in Abuja on Tuesday during an interactive session with media executives.

The EFCC boss alleged that the former Kogi governor transferred money from the state coffers to a bureau de change operator, and used the money for his child’s school fee in advance.

Olukoyede added that Bello made the payment in anticipation that his tenure was gradually coming to an end.
“A sitting governor, because he knew he was leaving office, moved money directly from the government to bureau de change and used it to pay his child’s school fee in advance,” the EFCC boss said.

“Over $720,000 in anticipation that he was going to leave the government house. In a poor state like Kogi, you want me to close my eyes under the guise of ‘I’m being used’. Used by who? At this stage of my life.”

Olukoyede said he inherited the case file of the former Kogi governor, noting that he did not initiate the investigation against Bello.

Subsequently, the anti-graft agency declared the former governor wanted.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has also placed Bello on a watchlist.

The anti-graft agency alleged that Bello, alongside Alli Bello, chief of staff to Ododo; and one Daudu Suleiman, diverted about N80.2 billion belonging to the Kogi government.

Travel / CNN Reporter Protests Nigeria’s $215 Single Entry Visa Fee by samebony1: 1:02pm On Apr 09
Madowo, who made this known on his LinkedIn account on Monday, disclosed that despite holding a Kenyan passport, which grants visa-free access to numerous African nations such as Uganda, South Africa, and Ghana, Nigeria requires a substantial fee of $215 for a single-entry visa.
He wrote, “Nigeria just charged me $215 for a one-month, single entry visa. Again. I was here three weeks ago – paid the same $215. This is actually my third time in Nigeria this year, so they have made $645 from me in 2024 alone.
“The visa itself costs $25, but Nigeria charges a $20 ‘processing fee’ and $170 for biometrics every time. My fingerprints haven’t changed since I was here three weeks ago. Why am I paying $170 to have them taken and to pose for a picture each time I visit? Isn’t that a standard part of admitting someone into a country?
“How can we achieve a borderless Africa, or the promise of the AfCFTA, if we charge Africans $215 for a single-entry visa?
“In the three weeks since I was last in Lagos, I went to Uganda, South Africa, and Ghana, where I don’t need a visa with a Kenyan passport. In fact, I’ve also been to South Africa three times this year. It cost me $0, like the ancestors intended.
“Nigeria’s visa-on-arrival system is similar to the ‘visa-free’ delusion of Kenya’s Electronic Travel Authorisation – you apply in advance, submit some documents, and wait for it to be approved. It can take up to five business days. If you know ‘someone,’ you can pay them $50 or more to ‘facilitate’ a faster approval.
“I love Nigeria, but the visa situation is showing me shege. It’s too much oo! Why this Shege Pro Max?”
I want to ask him if Kenyan gives Visa waiver to Nigerian

This was announced in a statement by Commissioner, Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho on Saturday.

Politics / Tinubu Confers National Honours On Super Eagles, Gifts Them Plots Of Land, Flats by samebony1: 2:13pm On Feb 13
President Bola Tinubu has coffered national honours on all members of the Super Eagles squad that won the silver medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The president also granted a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a flat to each of them for their feat at the just concluded competition.

Nigeria’s run to claim the country’s fourth AFCON title came to a disappointing end after the Eagles lost 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire in the final on Sunday.

The Eagles took the lead in the match after William Troost-Ekong scored a powerful header in the first half, but Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller scored in the second half for the Ivorians.

While receiving the team at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, Tinubu honoured every member of the silver medal-winning squad with Member of the Order of Niger (MON).

The president then praised the team’s resilience, sportsmanship and can-do attitude.

He also thanked the players for lifting the nation’s spirit with their performance at AFCON.

Afterwards, Nyesome Wike, minister of FCT, presented members of the team with forms to fill out and claim their gifts of lands and apartments.

Politics / Lagos Destroys Shanties, Dislodges Squatters Under Ijora Bridge by samebony1: 3:31pm On Feb 03
The Lagos State Government has commenced the destruction of illegal shanties occupied by squatters under the Ijora Causeway Bridge.

The government had earlier on Sunday given a five-day quit notice to squatters under the bridge and the Lagos Blue rail Line overhead bridge in Ijora to remove all their shanties for constituting a danger to the Lagos Blue Line corridor or risk demolition and removal.

The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, while giving the quit notice lamented the security risk the occupation of underneath the bridge by mini buses, block moulders, fuel sellers and miscreants posed to the safe operation of the blue rail line service, and said the government would not allow it to continue.
Sharing videos on his X handle on Saturday, Wahab stated that the enforcement team was led by ACP Bayo Sulaiman under the directive of the state governor to dislodge the squatters and clear the area.
He wrote, “Following the expiration of a 5-day quit notice issued to squatters under the Ijora Causeway Bridge by #followlasg last Sunday, the Enforcement Team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources #LasgMOE and Special Intervention Squad on the Restoration of the Lagos Badagry Rail Corridor Clean-Up led ACP Bayo Sulaiman begin enforcement by dislodging the illegal squatters and clearing up the area as directed by Lagos State Governor, #jidesanwoolu.”
Politics / Re: Why My SSCE Certificate Bears Sadiq Abubakar – Atiku by samebony1: 3:09pm On Oct 10, 2023
Just because you “went to swear an affidavit to say to say I am the same person as ATIKU Abubakar” does not automatically mean you are the same person.

I think we should ask WAEC search through their archives for the documents that were used to register this Sadiq Abubakar, just to be sure that nothing fishy has been going on for over 40 years.

Recall that the same request was made on WAEC for PMB’s result.
Politics / Why My SSCE Certificate Bears Sadiq Abubakar – Atiku by samebony1: 3:00pm On Oct 10, 2023
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday explained the discrepancies in his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) certificate.
Atiku made the clarification through Dele Momodu, in a post on his X handle.
Recently, a group had given Atiku and Peter Obi bi a seven-day ultimatum to release their academic records or face legal action to compel the disclosure.
According to Momodu, the clarification became necessary following allegations of forgery against his principal by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Momodu alleged that some members of the APC had questioned the name ”Sadiq Abubakar” in Atiku’s WAEC certificate as against his other credentials.
‘Yes I used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for my WAEC and after passing my exams I went to swear an affidavit to say I am the same person as ATIKU Abubakar.

“I went to ABU as Atiku Abuakar and passed my Exams as Atiku Abubakar. Interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission and hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So where is forgery there?’
But the same Atiku Abubakr that is quick to allege that another candidsate forged a certificate is now claiming that he sweore to an affidavit that both Saddiq Abubakar & Atiku Abubakar are the same person
Politics / Court Orders Delta To Account For Over N200bn UBE Funds Spent Under Okowa by samebony1: 8:29am On Jul 31, 2023
The federal high court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Delta state government to disclose details of how over N200bn in education funds was spent under the administration of Ifeanyi Okowa.

The funds were collected by Okowa’s government from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) between 2015 and 2019.

On July 17, Daniel Osiagor, the presiding judge delivered the ruling, following a freedom of information (FIO) suit marked FHC/L/CS/803/2019 filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

SERAP had asked Okowa’s government in 2019 to account for the spending of the UBEC funds but his administration declined at the time.
The anti-corruption group subsequently filed an FIO lawsuit, among other things, seeking to compel the Delta government to “explain the disparity between budgetary allocations to primary education and the reality that several of the 1,124 primary schools across the state are in shambles, and with very poor teaching facilities”.

In the judgement, the court ordered Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta, to “disclose details of budgetary allocations and actual spending by the Okowa government between 2015 and 2019, including specific projects carried out to improve primary education in Delta state, and the locations of such projects.”

The judge held that SERAP has a “cognizable legal right to inquire and know the way and manner public institutions manage public funds”.
“I must say that every citizen has a duty to demand transparency and accountability in the governance of public institutions,” Osiagor said.

“Why should a request for details of disbursement and spending of public funds between 2015-2019 by Delta state be a cause of litigation for four years? Public officials are fast developing a state of anomie and cold feet when confronted with requests for audit reports of public duties and budgets,” the judge observed.

Osiagor ordered the Delta state government to “disclose how the Okowa government spent over N7.28 billion, received from UBEC between 2015 and 2017, and N213 billion received from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) in 2018, at an average of N17.8 billion monthly”.

The Delta government is also to disclose “details of the primary schools that have benefited from the projects carried out on access to free and quality primary education”, including information on indirect costs, uniforms, exercise books, and transport costs to students and their parents

Politics / Tinubu's Open Letter To Chief Bode George by samebony1: 11:32am On Mar 16, 2023
Tinubu's Open Letter to Chief Bode George
15 March 2023

Dear Chief Bode George,

It is with genuine purpose and a peaceful intent that I write you this letter. I do so because the time has not yet come for you to proceed to political self-exile.

It will not be a thing of happiness for me that my emergence as President-elect will herald your departure from public life in Lagos and Nigeria. I, therefore, urge you to shelve all thoughts of self-exile and political retirement.

A capable opposition is a fundamental requirement of good governance, pushing the incumbent administration to be its best self or face electoral oblivion at the next election. In your many years in opposition in Lagos, you have never been victimised or persecuted; neither by me nor by any of the Governors who came after me.

The presidential election was hard yet cleanly fought. At the end, a victor was declared and, by the grace of God almighty, the Nigerian people chose to make me their next President. However, we must not take the battle so personally as to threaten retirement any time we fail to win. Defeat is as much a part of politics as victory.

As President, I will draw no distinction between supporter and antagonist. I will not grant undue favour to those who voted for me nor will I persecute those who voted against me. I will govern for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Under my leadership, Nigeria shall be a good and pleasant home. There will be room for freedom of expression. There will be economic growth and development. There will be opportunities for the young and social safety for the old. There will be security for all.

I hope you find it within yourself to stay and be a part of Nigeria's hopeful future. However, if you feel that you do not want to live in the new Nigeria, nobody, least of all me, can force you to remain here. Whatever you choose to do, I bid you Godspeed.

SIGNED
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

My friend it is clear ignorance, lack of exposure and bitterness is your problem and that of many others. Distribution hubs are rarely if ever In the Centre of large cities, they are almost always located in the outskirts of the city they serve. In the Uk for example, many of the logistic warehouses and distribution centers are on the motorways so that trucks can easily get to them without traffic.

Anyone who has been abroad driving on highways will have seen large distribution centers/ warehouses in the middle of nowhere.

Below are distribution centers for IKEA, Morrison and Tesco in the Uk, you can see they are in the middle of nowhere. The last pic is IKEA USA west coast distribution center in in the middle of the California desert. Apart from the issue of traffic and access, you require large acreage for distribution centers and land is cheaper in the outskirts.

You village idiots just post anyhow making fools of yourselves!!!!

You could have easily given him/her the example of NESTLE Distribution Center in Santo Otta. Probably because of ignorance or hatred, some people just don't think before they type.

15 classrooms accommodating at least 30 students each translates to 450 students.

True. But trying to do so with an overly energetic daughter running around the house like it is Christmas, everyday, is one heck of a difficult situation if one intends to write. Not to talk of the attention that I have to give to the yarns of the lady of the house after work. Anyway, I'm still working on it. Three chapters down, but I want to make it six or seven before I start posting.

My Guy, I know what its like to be a dotting father, not to talk of the lady's need for attention. But you will cope somehow.
Don't rush it. Write only when the juice flows, that way the best will come from that deep fountain in you.

Sorry ma, Its not the Bridge construction that is the major cause of traffic hiccups in that axis, but the irresponsible behaviour of drivers, especially the commercial Yellow buses, Tricycle drivers and street traders.
If all road users in that area obey traffic regulations, we will not have much stress on the road
