Good day Nairalanders,

I have consistently followed this page and I find it so informative. Thank you guys for your dedication.

I am currently undertaking a Masters in South Africa but just applied to study another masters at the university of saskatchewan. I have gotten a supervisor but the program will be fully funded by my parents.

May I know if my sponsor's Nigeria bank account statement can be used to apply for my TRV here in South Africa?. Does it appears safe to apply in South Africa or Nigeria. Thank you as I will need guru's guidance.
Hello,

Since you have a valid study permit in SA, you can apply for a Canadian study permit from there. Do you have a genuine reason why you're going for another masters after your current masters degree in SA. CIC would normally expect you to show a progression in your study. so, I would suggest you explore the possibility of securing a PhD admission. Your Nigeria bank account statement shouldn't be a problem as long as it is verified by the bank (stamped statement and attached cover letter from the bank).

Regards.

The London people was at it..

Hello Francis,

Sorry about the refusal. You don't have to reapply "sharp sharp". First, you need to request for gcms note. Also, you need to get a new admission letter if the current one is for fall. Ircc will still ask for a new offer letter when they are about to approve your visa for subsequent term.

Hello Gurus,

I have 10 yrs study gap and have been refused twice. I have applied for GCMS note after my 2nd refusal and i am still waiting for it. The summary reason for refusal is 1) purpose of visit 2) travel history

it is obvious am refused based on my huge study gap. And i already know that a strong SOP should be able to tackle it.

I need suggestion and sensitization from people with knowledge or history of tackling study gap for over 5 yrs

To add to what mcobex said, is your intended programme related to your previous programme of study in your home country and how your current work experience is related to the program you're going for in Canada. .

Hello guys I hope we all get our TRVs soon.
Just asking; Is getting a call to do your medicals some time after submitting an online application a good sign of getting the Canadian student visa?

Hello;

Yea, it is a good sign but not a certainty the person will get the trv. Put in mind that people still get denied after medical mail. The thing is, you have moved a step further as people sometimes get rejected without receiving the medical mail.

Does anyone understands OUAC. This thing is giving me headache !! I applied through uOttawa and paid app fee $100 today

Hello,

Are you talking about Ontario University Application Center?. OUAC gives you access to apply to your school, once your payment has been confirmed.

After making payment, you create a profile on ouac. I really cant remember the next step. You will use this ouac to submit your application

Hello house.. im new here and i have a question , would be glad if anyone can enlighten me.. im a graduate and i want to apply for student visa for canada.. but the problem is, i finished with a pass..Firstly, what i wanna know is if there are schools in canada that doesnt require bsc for student visa and secondly if there are schools that accept just pass to apply... im open to any course.. Would really appreciate constructive responses. im prepared to spend any amount.. i just need genuine source and know the possibilities , so i wont fall into hands of a fake agent..Thanks

Hello,

By "prepared to spend any amount", you just attracted fake agents to yourself. Well, my advise to you is that you should shun any agent and do it yourself.

Also, considering your grade from the University, i would say you should consider going for a new undergraduate course, that is if age is on your side.

Hello house, please I would love to ask a question;

I made a bullet list of my supporting documents to add to my SOP in the Client Information PDF. I currently have 26 pages of supporting documents ranging from BSc, MSc, Police clearance, previous UK visa, receipt of first semester tuition payment & etc.

It’s that not too much? I’m scared of boring the Visa Officer?

Hello,

Are you going for another MSci or a PhD?

Hello,
Dont be discouraged. Second time will be different. You can start by applying for your gcms note. Also, try making efforts to attach land documents on your next application. Im sure the gurus will still comment on your situation

Hello House, I’m new here. I applied to George Brown College for Business Administration for September 2018. But I got a response from the school I applied late (May3rd). But they told me to could get the study permit late which means I won’t be able to meet up for September but they noticed I also applied for Business Administration and Human Resources for January 2019 which I did. So they asked if they cancel out the September and focus for January. But my question is what month would they start working on January applicants and how many weeks/months does it take them to process applications?
Thank you!
Henry

Hello,

The last time i checked processing time, it was 9 weeks and that was last month. You can apply for your TRV as soon as you get all your necessary documents; admission letter from the school inclusive. They dont keep applications, they start processing as soon as you submit. Applying early would give you the chance of getting your TRV early or also reapplying if denied. I would advise you apply now, if all your documents are ready.

Hello Nairalanders,

Please what goes on in ''Background check'', mine has been showing ''We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information'' for 2 weeks plus now. smiley Who has an idea of what is done?

Hello,

Just two weeks? Lol. Two weeks is too short to start getting worried. Background check should be review and verification of all documents and details submitted minus medicals. May include family, work experience and others.

Do Brandon university offer MSc computer science by research (thesis based)?

Any funding available for MUN graduate research students (MSc computer science)?

Is there anyone here currently studying or being offered admission into memorial university of Newfoundland, graduate studies?

What's MUN actual cost for Msc computer science (research) I can't really get the full cost analysis.

Does the special fees page exempt MSc computer science (research)??

If granted student visa for graduate studies by research, can my spouse work full-time

Is it true that after completion of phD or MSc program in Canada, you are not eligible to apply for PR within Canada as a student visa holder??

Kindly forgive my numerous queries, I really need these answers to enable me make informed decisions.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hello,

For the last two parts, as an international student, your wife is eligible to apply for spousal open work permit. This enables her to work in canada while you study.

Also, upon completion of msc or phd, youre eligible to apply for a postgraduate work permit which is usually 3 years. .. depending on the duration of your study.

Finally, cost analysis can be gotten by simply checking the school web page.

Regards.

After denial with Pgd, who can suggest a good university for msc computer science. And is ielts compulsory?

Hello,

IELTS is not required in any canadian institution that i know of. What they normally ask for is TOEFl and its usually waived for nigerians because nigeria is classified as english speaking country. Some schools might still request for it though.

Nice please what is accommodation like in windsor

I do not know if this has been answered. Accommodation is usually shared 3 to 6 bedrooms around the school area with rooms in the basement, ground level and upstair(attic). Houses closer to school are more expensive compared to farther distance from school. A budget of 350 to 450 a month will work fine for accommodation. Except you want to stay alone, you should budget more.

There is also the option of getting accommodation on campus.

In writing SOP, for a PGC applicant. Should I mention my inability to apply for a Masters program as a result of my poor undergrad result.

Hello Mightyola,

I will not advise you to do that. Schooling in canada is not any easier. So if you cant get a good grade in your home country, you probably would appear like someone who cant in canada. i would suggest you state other reasons like looking for more skills or knowledge in that particular course. It is just a personal opinion.

Best wishes

Got $16K in graduate assistantship, I don't have any supplemental funding. Should I apply?

Hello,

Before you apply, check the cost of your annual tuition, living expenses and incidental cost, will the 16k cover all?

Some schools and programmes are so expensive that 16k is not sufficient for just tuition.

You are one of the persons that inspired me. Thanks.
A quick one for you, one of the conditions on my funding is that, i have a valid study permit during the duration of my studies, if i decide to apply for the express entry and i get it, what happens to my funding?

Or is it possible to keep the PR and complete one's study with the study permit?

I am a lady and a recent graduate just rounding off nysc. I dont have a large sum of money in Nigeria or a business or a job prospect and my parents have not linked any of their asset to my name.

Please what other alternative do i have? Or can a visa be denied if i dont necessarily show any of the above?

Ma,

Your parent, sibling, and parent's asset are good enough home ties to get your visa. The asset does not necessarily have to be linked to you. Just show proof it exist and it belongs to your family. You can attach the Certificate of Occupancy, survey plan and valuation of the land.

As long as you show enough fund to cover your tuition and living expenses, you should be fine.

Also, the job is not a necessary requirement as youre just completing your mandatory NYSC. I just suggested it as a good home tie.

Best.

Thanks for your reply.
Please what can i use to prove my relationship with my uncle apart from him writing a letter of sponsorship, what other document can i use as proof that he is my maternal uncle because we dont bear same surname, would have been easier if paternal

His birth certificate, Your mums birth certificate and her marriage certificate should work.

If your uncle gives you money regularly through bank transfer, you can also point the visa officers to it in the statement

Hello everyone,

I must say I am very impressed with the detailed information that have been passed on this forum by patriotic citizens. Good eye opener. I recently got an admission to study Master of Public Health. I am really taking my time to gather all documents required to apply for my study permit, also have been making my research to identify loop holes in denied visa applications and try to fill them when I start my application. Nairaland has contributed immensely to this.

Did my undergraduate in public health and graduated 2016, started service 2017 and I will be passing out from NYSC on the 12th of April, 2018. My uncle will be my financial sponsor and he is a citizen of U.S.A and lives there. I have read all the documents he will need to provide to satisfy the financial support requirement during my application.

However, I want to know...as a recent graduate who has no employment offer, no land or personal assets as ties to home country, no spouse, no child, and am the second daughter in the family, how do i defend my home ties and intention to return to Nigeria after my study in Canada?

I anticipate your reply..thank you much

There are a lot things that can serve as home tie. Anything that will make you want to come home at the end of your study.

It could be your parent, siblings, a large sum of money in Nigeria, a business, your parents assets, or a job prospect in Nigeria.

The onus is on you to prove its a tie.

Best.
