Still working on the AppWindow and Dialogs. Hopefully, I would upload the new version for download tonight and also upload a youtube video for those who aren't ready to test it.

xterra2: Wow so nice & at this time, its only for launching twitter angry birds no ? Though they all re_direct to google.com
Now everytime I open chrome your sage os load also, how can I stop it so I can open it manually ? Am not used to chrome my second time of it only, am used to firefox but 'll switch to chrome soon

I noticed the following:
-it is NOT html5. I right clicked & went to view page source and I saw the doctype declaration for html5 the doctype is <!DOCTYPE html> the doctype you use is html4 you can make more research on it
-after setting up my username & password the first time, when re-open it shows me the account pic and ask me to insert my username, if I do so it won't open but if I put my password it works so that's a mistake

Questions
-which software do you use ? Dreamweaver ?
-what features do you want to add in the near feature

And btw, am having exams soon if am through with it can I join you ? So we can do it together ? I'll help with what I can
I want to add a status bar showing time only when the user hovers around the time I wld use css3 transitions for it to animate & bring up full time & date, the time would be on the bg image itself
I also have some nice features to add

Yes, that version only goes to google when you click on any item. Its not a bug, just for testing. That version takes you away from the OS totally. But that has changed. Now you can use the AppTray to see other opened apps.

Soon, you'll be able to prevent the OS from starting up automatically from the settings page. Although, this would be the default behaviour. Also, you'll be able to open or minimize the OS window by pressing the OS action icon near the address bar or tapping a key.

Yes, I am aware that my html isn't HTML5. That can be fixed later. Need to update my IDE which is phpStorm.

I will fix the issue with the log on page message. Thanks bro

I have some features I'd like to implement but first the basic features of an OS/Cloud OS must be added.

It would be great to have more people working with me. Actually, I plan to put it up on Github once it reaches a certain stage. I have added basic date and time but I'm yet to make it work realtime (not my priority yet).

Thank you for taking your time to post your findings. I appreciate it bro.

xterra2: Wow so nice
I wanted to ask:
-is it multi user ?
-does it have a settings page or something?
- can apps run on the os

Yes, its multi user but at the moment its restricted to one user session.

At the moment, I am yet to implement a settings page, but its going to be added soon. In the last version, it was included.

Right now, you can run hosted apps (web apps). In a couple days, I will be working on the API/Framework that would allow anyone to create packaged apps and extensions with offline capabilities.

Apps created with the framework would be compatible with any other platform the OS supports (firefox, andriod, blackberry and ios) in the future.

All right, i am back AGAIN grin. In my last post, i said i was going to start all over. Well, i did. At the moment, its still has nothing cool in it. What i have now is a sort of skeleton that i would be building everything on. With the current build, you can only install and create user accounts after which you'll be redirected to your "AppBoard". For now, there isn't any native or third-party app except for the placeholder icons.

Here is the download link for chrome users:

Sage OS v0.0.1 - 4MB Sorry about the file size (Have some on used background images in there)

Over the next couple of days, i will be posting updates with download links as i code.

Cheers smiley

okeyxyz:

okay!! I understand that these were not your choices, they were not my choices too. But in a team/collaborative environment, there is a period of brain-storming where everybody has a chance to make his argument to convince others of his idea, you probably didn't do that, and even if you did, you either win or lose & when you lose you have two choices: either you support the winning effort or you break away to form your own team. Yet you've done non of these, but you want to be the "dog in a manger".

Now if you say the PHCN idea sucks, how do you know that? You need to demonstrate how this is not gonna be viable. We all know there are challenges to that choice, thus one of the reasons we embark on any project is to work out effective & efficient methods to solve or at least alleviate those obstacles/failures. So PHCN does not follow their distribution models, ok!! can you think of an innovative way to tackle that?

what if these guys go on to successfully develop this app, to produce a website that will show a schedule of PHCN's supply plan, produce a map of all PHCN's switch stations in Lagos with the areas they serve & their power plans on a daily basis so that people know when to expect power in their area. In addition they will have a means vote on the site on whether PHCN in that locality is really supplying power like they were scheduled to or they are simply diverting these powers to other areas who have paid a bribe. what if the minister of power fall in love with this social participation in reporting PHCN performance(rather than what officers report to their oga's), He adopts it & government decides to sponsor it's further development? Maybe you were too busy considering ideas of "Einstein proportions" these simple values didn't occur to you.

Okay. Thanks for the article. I was wrong, I shouldn't have called them "suckish" ideas. Carry on.

Fools. Instead of appreciating what the JTF is doing, you are all making jokes. I guess you all think you safe here in the South. Arresting these commanders is good development. One day one of them may just provide that intel needed to crush them assuming they are not of the PDP.

Dude, you had a chance to suggest something better but you didn't. No one is saying the ideas that were chosen where top notch -- they happen top be the ones that got the most votes. Let's just deal with that and do better next time.

Okay! cool

Call me a detractor, It doesn't take away the fact that a the two ideas are "suckish" ideas. Simply tells me how a lot of Nigerian programmers aren't creative. Budget monitoring app may still be ok, but an app to guess when PHCN takes or brings power sucks (even PHCN don't follow their distribution model at times).

Before you guys start developing a budget monitoring app, maybe you should see this http://yourbudgit.com/. Besides, who would be providing/updating the data ? Crowd sourced?

I am in support of the Recharge Card based payment system. Such system would be extremely popular at this time when we are going cashless. It could just be our answer to a Nigerian Paypal.
Politics / Re: BOMB Blast In KANO Few Minutes Ago by worldbest(m): 7:23am On May 01, 2012
The only solution to this problem is a new constitution that provides for true federalism where there is respect for ethnicity and religion. As It is, we are aheading for a bloody and inevitable seperation.

Moreso, I think this recent bomb crisis is a plot by some theives to divert attention from the pension and fuel subsidy scams.

Programming / Re: Is 5 Months Enough To Learn Java? by worldbest(m): 6:20am On Apr 26, 2012
Learning to program takes months or years of practice. But learning to use a programming language could take less than a month. Concentrate on learning to use the language for a month then give yourself a project. If you complete the project, start another one. That's how you learn to program.

Long time no update, i love your html5 OS
its been a long time since you last updated 4 months by now you would have gone very far i suppose
Please we need status update
I would also email you in case you miss this thread

I got your mail xterra. Sorry i haven't replied. Been busy lately. Thanks for the mail.

@Everyone

I am really sorry for the silence. I haven't been working on this project for sometime. As usually, i digressed to something else - A search engine of some kind. I was successful with that but i don't have the funds to run a search application at this time. Anyways, i am back and i have acquired more knowledge that would help with this project.

I am going to start from scratch. Simple with minimal concentration on UI slickness. Also would be uploading updated versions of the app every week. Henceforth, this project will be referred to as Stack OS (a working title) the HTML5 companion operating system.

Right now, i am taking a look at the previous codes to see what i can reuse.

Once again, i am sorry for the silence. smiley
