if truly you've been their shareholder for over ten years then, i will not agree to that, that, nothing good has come. The stock rose from one naira to four naira in the time past. The stock will increase by hundred percent this year but still want to put tools together to microview every hidden signal

As a matter of fact, I was a shareholder of Wemak for 21 years. I watched my 15 million Naira worth of Wema Bank in 2008, fall to 1.3 million Naira in February 2013. I was able to sell all my holdings in february 2013.

Where were you when Wema Bank sold for N15.00k in 2008.

@manie You have really been in this business for a long time. Two things rule the market fear and greed. So you did not sell when you suppose to sell you still held on till it became difficult to sell in 2008 and sustain heavy lose. I sustain some lose too in 2008 but I sold off when I notice things are no longer bull forever. The same will still happen as usuall some bought at the apex of the move, despite fundamentals they are yet to recover.

Price is important in stock selection. fundamental technical or speculation is built into it. If WEMA did not go under like Oceanic, Intercontinental etc , solvency issue is not there again, toxic assets have been cleared. Above all the general economy is recovering from collapse , crash, or recession. The stock will do well for early entry or position at reasonable price. However bank stocks generally is not something you hold for a long term. The guys do so many hidden things!! bubble must burst, CBN governors keep changing policies from now and then. When you make decent gain cash out you can only rest with one eye still open with great food/beverage or service companies with good history of bonus ,dividend,Year on year increase in revenue, mergers . Amean almost monopoly in its area of ops. I know we all know these things but we are always carry away by emotion and quick money (Fear and Greed)

@born2berich,
D same way I had a dream of a sugar company few weeks back, but am yet to see any movement there.
Ftn and c& I is pure gambling. C&i rises to 70k and falls. The cycle rapeats. Ftn cocoa on its own rises to 69k or very close and falls again.
Unfortunately, my stock house bought ftn cocoa - 1 million units @66k even wen I ordered him to cancel d instructn and buy another stock. They just bought d 2.

Am trapped in ftn cocoa. I may leave it there for 2 years sha. Money must not loss.

Do you know that Wema bank was on technical suspension for over 3 years, I have been trying to sell for the past 5 years just got a buyer in February 2013.

As per holding a bank stock for long term, ask the holders of FBN shares since 1993. 1000 units of FBN shares valued at N3500, has grown to over 54,000 units valued over 1 million Naira this does not include dividend of about 100k received over the last 4 years.

Wema and Unity are the worst performers among the quoted banking stocks, when you look at performance and returns on investment over the last 10 years.

You echoed clearly the issue i have with ci. But, im an optimist. I want to believe that they will change that poor corporate governance and declare good dividend for investors. They need to toil these line of actions to boost their share value, because the value is there. I like the fact that as of 3rd quater, they have more than 2.7 billion naira in cash and cash balances. Thats 4x their market capitalization @ 511 million naira. At least, no solvency or reduced solvency risk. If you take that number divided by their current share outstanding, thats about 3.15 naira while current share price is 0.59.

I think the value is there. Management just need to make decisions that will unlock those values.

Generally for me 2 or 3 good ones out of 25( when they were 25) was a bad failure. Anyway thanks so much, it reminds me of over 25000 units FBN i left in special account some years back. I will go check doc to trace them. Hope they are still there with accumulated bonus. Then, they promised special protection, hope so?

@courage,
Please give me d formula to calc fair value.
Is it = cash and balances/share outstanding?

Or
Market capitalisation in naira / share outstanding?

Another factor that may push d price higher is that they intend to come and raise money by April.

Equity value = market value =share outstanding x stock price

I think fair value calculation is subjective. I think everybody have different valuation methodology that works for them; be it discounted cash flow, enterprise value, comparable transaction, liquidation analysis, ipo valuation or dividend discount model. What i have done was partial liquidation/ break-up analysis. Assuming the company is up for sale today based on current asset, how much would the shareholder get back.

DCF, EV(though very hard to calculate for Nigeria equities), and LA mostly work for me.

Don't believe all these reports. Most of these reports are not real. These directors and their auditors can be deceptive. All the banks that went under never declared any loses on their income statement and their balance sheet was strong. I beg invest the money you can loose. I know this sound harsh, but that is only way you can rest of mind in Nigeria financial markets. Don't trust Nigerian directors. Buying shares in Nigeria is like trading playing with shark. You have to be smart. DON'T TRUST THEIR FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.

For cashcraft, on the top right corner of the page, you will see quick search, select daily market report on the drop down menu and d pricelist will show. You can also check for previous days, months and years. Cash craft is very detailed. You can get any report you want, pe, eps, yield of diff stocks for d week, month and year. Year highs, market capitalisation, just any info, just move around. There os a button analytics on top right, you will get a lot of info/analysis there.
Proshareng will tell u daily price list as well as the stocks that are on strong bid and offer. It also ranks gainers and loosers for the day , give you news etc.
