PoliticsRe: President Jonathan’s Faulty Self-Assessment by 1MCN: 9:03am On Jun 11, 2013
Btruth: Thanks for making us all know about your self achievement Mr Ajala travel. Meanwhile, we are not talking about the little selfish privilege folks like you here, we are more concern about the much numbers of ordinary nigerians that cannot even avoid a 2 meal a day in a country that is rated as one of the highest producer of crude oil in the world.

If Jonathan like, let him scored himself 120% on his paper scoreboard. But one things is certainly sure, 2 people cannot surely missed out on a lie. I will just advice him & his entourage to travel from Iyana-Dopemu via Iyana-Ipaja, Abule-Egba, Kola to Toll-gate to see how improved the Lagos-Abeokuta has been.

I'm very happy to hear that the electricity has so much been better in Abuja & its environs though, but what about other parts of the Country? Many artisans has so much deserted their various profession and turn to Okada riders, many have been so much frustrated to the level of turning to "Agberos" (tout). So, how is Mr President rating himself?

I will simply just advice Mr Jonathan or whatever he calls himself to pick a copy of Billy Clinton book titled " My Life: The Presidential Years" to read.
I think your comment rather gives credence to the achievements claimed by the FG. I used the Iyana-Dopemu to Toll gate, Sango-Ota (Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway) you mentioned everyday between Wednesday last week to Sunday. You said it has greatly improved. That road is a Federal Govt road and was improved by FG last year. I dont claim to know what it used to be hitherto cos am not resident in Lag or Ogun. I first used that road last December. If it has been so bad before now then the FG might be correct in its claims on road rehabilitaion. Not every section of that road is perfect still. But if only traders will stop displaying their wares on road centres then travel on that road will cease to be as difficult as it is up till now. It is the duty, I think, of state and local efforts and authorities to help to address that ugly situation of using highways for market palce.

PoliticsRe: President Jonathan’s Faulty Self-Assessment by 1MCN: 8:36pm On Jun 10, 2013
I think the writer of the artcle told only half truth, maybe cos of scarcity of points to dig his anger around.
1. I used the said Benin-Ore road yesterday. In 2008 when I 1st used it I got to Owerri by 11pm but yesterday I got to PH by 4:15 (I left by 8am in 2008 & 7am yesterday & Owerri-PH is more than an hr journey).
2. I cant hold forth for GEJ on fight against corruption. The president says he believes in a different of corruption fight--corruption prevention. And I think that's better and saves more time and money. But I know that apart from the pardon of Alams, Nigerians have not observed any direct involvement in corruption on the part of GEJ unlike the days of Ghana-must-go bags in the National Assembly and Aso Villa (1999-2010).
3. Power was said to be at 2,600MW before 2011. But now we have 4,600MW. If it took us over 50yrs of Independence to produce 2.6MW and 2yrs to hit 4.5 then I thinks it's only commendable.
4. Maternal mortality is high. Apart from poor govt committment over the years, religious and cultural believes have also contributed to our shame. Otherwise, how can one explain the killing of Immunization staff in Kano recently.
5. We hear that govt have cut down the number of Oil importers from 128 to 38. And today no one ever sees a queue in any fuel station in Nigeria, not even the almighty NNPC stations! Fuel is sold at the same rate nationwide! This is historic magic in Nigeria. I even saw a station in Lag along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway last week with a promo ad that says BUY PETROL AT N96.
6. This govt has been untraditionally transparent. Some people will read that as trying to buy public approval. But I think the govt is trying to reach a social contract with the citizenry in its polity.
7. I wonder how we can say that BH could have been crushed by GEJ in 2010 when Lai Mohammed and Buhari still think in 2013 that the boys are been victimized. Maybe they shud be left to stay till the next millenium. But if only they'll return the arms and ammunition their northern elite friends gave them.

PoliticsRe: NAMA Grounds Oshiomhole’s Chartered Helicopter Over Aerodrome & Landing Fee by 1MCN: 7:03pm On Jun 07, 2013
I love this! Nigeria's upperclass must realize that everyone is subject to regulations and rules. The pilot said that it was a fee they could pay later. Yes. But that's in the OLD. When I buy an air ticket I pay for everything. None is paid later. Same with ABC bus ticket. The poor Philipino pilot has been used to our lacadasical procedures here but am not sure that also happens in his home country.
For those dragging Jonathan into this. I think he's guilty as charged. Yes. He and Stella Adaeze Uduah have taught those big and above-all Nigerians that they have to shape their sizes. He has made Aviation staff and Departments sit up and know that it's no longer business as usual. Yes that's his sin. And he cant deny it.
Thank God it wasnt even an ACN convention that Adams was attending-- we no for hear word again. If this could happen to a governor gracing a call by a Presidential Aide then 'all man go need to level im head.'
Nigeria and Nigerians must be forced into that change we all desire in all areas of national life wether by metamorphosis or by alchemy!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: MTN Replaces 285 Expatriates With Nigerian Workers. by 1MCN: 10:38am On Jun 07, 2013
I think the major reason mtn had to go local isnt just to save cost but in compliance with FG's local content law, even though this also hugely saves them cost. Am wondering why NLers are saying some disparaging things about this move. Do you mean that Nigerians (you inclusive) are good-for-nothings? Or do you mean you'd rather hear that MTN sacks 285 Nigerian workers for expatriates? Sometimes it juust seems to me some people reason with something other than their brains! And with this kind of mindset you're jobseeking? You must be an occupational/career hazard.
I can attest that the Oil and Gas Companies are also going local content in their staffing. All of the Supervising Engineers I now work under are Nigerians! Positions hitherto preserved for Oyibo.
I believe a Nigerian can deliver. They shud shun favouritism, nepotism, quota system and racketeering. They'd certainly get the performers onboard.

PoliticsRe: Rivers ACN Blast Tinubu For Meeting With Amaechi by 1MCN: 9:10am On Jun 07, 2013
This, I think is the true position of things. Amaechi is winning largescale relevance and fame from the people and leaders of the SW and losing it from his own SS people and its leaders. The reason why SW and ACN politicians are supporting and pushing Amaechi isnt cos he has impressed them in any very special way but only based on the philosophy that AN ENEMY TO MY ENEMY IS MY FRIEND. Since ACN National sees itself as arch enemy of GEJ they cant wait a split second to align with anyone of supposed friends of GEJ that falls out with him. Tinubu may not even be that interested in Rivers governorship or Rivers governor. All he wants is to shake abuja as violently as he can afford.
Amaechi has lost hold of Rivers state and may well soon head to self destruction if he doesnt watch his steps. PDP will of course feed those starved Rivers ACN with cash so as to do the grassroot spoiling for both Amaechi and Tinubu (remember in politics no permanent enemy or permanent friend. Only permanent interest. And in our Nigerian case unfortunately money seems to be that permanent interest)

PoliticsRe: Labaran Maku Blasts Fashola At Ministerial Platform by 1MCN: 7:35pm On Jun 03, 2013
The achievements of Fashola in Lag is self-evident. So I dont think Labran should have used such a puerile flippancy to deride or water down the streaks of Fashola.
But however, I dont think Fashola and GEJ are on the same pedestal. Office of the Gov of Lagos state cant be compared with the most powerful office in the African continent. The challenges and the interests are parallel.
Then, we're talking about Fashola's 6yrs in office against GEJ's 2yrs. I think they dont add very well. Maybe we would need a comprehensive score card of Fashola's 2yrs in office too so we can better compare notes (putting other factors into consideration though).
Finally, I want to let some Lagosians here on NL remember that after ABJ Lag is the second state with the highest Federal govt interest and presence. When Fed govt does a project in Lag Fashola takes the glory. Well, insofar as the people get better live, the glory can go to anyone for all I care. But I think GEJ has done for Lagos more in this 2yrs than most other presidents.

Whenever I hear the utterances of this elder, Prof Ango Abdullahi I feel so bad for the mere reason of the shame and embarassment he's bringing to the Academiae--worst still whenever they mention the former VC of ABU Zaria part of his title! How can a man of such high learning reason like a teenage Almajiri? Just imagine him saying he'll blackmail northerners who are not on their side of thought and make the illiterate and uninformed locales to believe that they're working against the north? Is he gonna do this with truth and logic or with mischief and deceit? Why not insist on issues rather than dubious character assassination?
Shouldnt the issue be about how to give the people good living rather than how to give the elites Power? No wonder these people wont let their people acquire good and quality education so that they can continue to commercialize from their illiteracy.

PoliticsRe: Hezbollah Terror Cell Uncovered In Kano by 1MCN: 10:40am On May 31, 2013
I keep wondering what in the world of Islam makes it impossible for muslims to openly condem terror and reprimand terrorists! No matter how hot it is or how dare the consequences might be a moslem must find a way to support/and or defend either directly or indirectly the cause and act of global terrorism in any part of the world! During the militancy in the ND the locales and leaders urged the boys to denounce terror and embrace peaceful dialogue (at least before the public), everyone in the SE speaks openly against kidnapping for ransome, but the reverse is the case for the moslem north!!!
PoliticsRe: Rate The President's Mid-term Report by 1MCN: 9:00pm On May 29, 2013
The problem I have with most of us is that a good number of people who will talk more about this never watched that programme. How can this help for a seasoned intellectual debate?
Again, avowed supporters had watched with the sentiment of 'to listen to our President', so with this sentiment they'd never naturally find any thing wrong or fallacious with any fact or figure. Call it skew sentiment. And opposition who risked the heartache of watching were busy searching for a blindspot, e.g the 65% portable water spot. Call it prejudcious colour blindness. Then again, we have those opposition who never bothered watching cos for them everything is a LIE. Call it stereotypical mischief grandstanding. But we all who watched with a thoroughly fair refereeing could say, maybe this man GEJ is painfully and meticulously etching his name on granite. Maybe only time will tell. Hear what the American Pst Jesse Jackson said, 'for all my years working with govts around the world I have not seen any govt working with so much dedication to transparency and transformation like this one in Nigeria.... Nigeria, you are important.'

FIRST READING Sirach 36:1-2.5-6a.11-17
Let them know that there is no God but you.
Have mercy upon us, O LORD, the God of all,
and look upon us, and show us the light of
your mercy; send fear of you upon the
nations, and let them know you, as we have
known that there is no God but you, O LORD.
Show signs anew, and work further
wonders. Gather all the tribes of Jacob, and
give them their inheritance, as at the
beginning. Have mercy, O LORD, upon the
people called by your name, upon Israel,
whom you have likened to a firstborn son.
Have pity on the city of your sanctuary,
Jerusalem, the place of your rest. Fill Zion
with the celebration of your wondrous
deeds, and your temple with your glory.
Bear witness to those whom you created in
the beginning, and fulfil the prophecies
spoken in your name. Reward those who
wait for you, and let your prophets be found
trustworthy. Listen, O LORD, to the prayer of
your servants, according to the blessing of
Aaron for your people, and direct us in the
way of righteousness, that all who are on
the earth will know that you are the LORD,
the God of the ages.
V/ The word of the Lord.
R/ Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM 79:8.9.11.13
R/ R. Show us, O Lord, the light of your
mercy.
1. Do not remember against us the guilt of
former times. Let your compassion hasten to
meet us; for we have been brought very
low. R. 2. Help us, O God our saviour, for the
sake of the glory of your name. Free us and
forgive us our sins, because of your name. R.
3. Let the groans of the prisoners come
before you, your strong arm reprieve those
condemned to die. R. 4. Then we, your
people, the flock of your pasture, will give
you thanks forever and ever. From age to
age we will recount your praise. R.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION MARK 10:45
Alleluia, alleluia!
The Son of man came not to be served but
to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for
many.
Alleluia!
GOSPEL
A reading from the holy Gospel according to
Mark 10:32-45
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and
the Son of man will be delivered.”
At that time: The disciples were on the road,
going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was
walking ahead of them; and they were
amazed, and those who followed were
afraid. And taking the Twelve again, he
began to tell them what was to happen to
him, saying, “Behold, we are going up to
Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be
delivered to the chief priests and the scribes,
and they will condemn him to death, and
deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will
mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge
him, and kill him; and after three days he will
rise.” And James and John, the sons of
Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to
him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us
whatever we ask of you.” And he said to
them, “What do you want me to do for
you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit,
one at your right hand and one at your left,
in your glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You
do not know what you are asking. Are you
able to drink the chalice that I drink, or to be
baptised with the baptism with which I am
baptised?” And they said to him, “We are
able.” And Jesus said to them, “The chalice
that I drink you will drink; and with the
baptism with which I am baptised, you will
be baptised; but to sit at my right hand or at
my left is not mine to grant, but it is for
those for whom it has been prepared.” And
when the Ten heard it, they began to be
indignant at James and John. And Jesus
called them to him and said to them, “You
know that those who are supposed to rule
over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their
great men exercise authority over them. But
it shall not be so among you; but whoever
would be great among you must be your
servant, and whoever would be first among
you must be slave of all. For the Son of man
also came not to be served but to serve, and
to give his life as a ransom for many.”

I once went to the local Eke market in my country home and stopped over at an 'aboki's' shop. I spoke my dialect to him with the expectation to just psych him. I was bewildered about the how rustic the guy could speak my native tongue with (almost better than myself) and he's making huge sums from that place in tens of thousands daily with peace of mind.
With this kind of news I wonder why "my own people" cant be treated same way in those places. This is painful.
I know about relocation inertia but am forced to say it is madness that Igbos still prefer to risk their lives and businesses up north. Some have returned though, but our people say if you tell the ear and it refuses to hear when they cut the head the ear follows along.

Friend, did you say Adamawa has not known any insurgency? I thought it's among the SOE states?
@OP, Well, I guess it must be for the security operations going on there. Maybe there's a reliable intel the JTF has got so it needs to cut the insurgents off communication. It must be a challenging time for our brovs up north. They must have paid in lumpsome for this whole mess. But whatever such sacrifice gets us all as a nation out of this mess may be said to be worth it. I pray heavens to help you all with the strength and sense to bear this pain.

PoliticsRe: What Has Jonathan Done For Niger Delta? by 1MCN: 4:23pm On May 27, 2013
Although am not totally supporting the regional sentiment behind the thread cos a President should be for all regions, but let me try to put a few things straight.
Firstly, most of the people commenting on this thread aint from or live in the ND region. I've used the EW road severally, and most recently. That road might possibly be the longest road network in Nigeria as it passes thru almost all ND states. When in plied it last(Rivers-Bayelsa axis) on 16th of this month I saw a lot of work ongoing. That road is billed to be completed by end of 2014. And the fund is huge. Friends, if only you know the terrain of this place am mentioning you'd doubt if that date is even realizable! As a Soil Science and environmental expert I must frankly say the soil mechanics, physics and chemistry is very challenging (maybe you need to see things for yourself).
About the refineries, I've lived and worked in Aleto, Eleme where the PH ref is located and my elder brov is also an oil (small scale) dealer and I must say there's been tremendous change in both output and organisational structure there in the past few 1 and half years.
Bayelsa state where I am presently is indeed a small state, but I think it's injustice the amount of federal projects going on here now. Unless it's the same in all states. Last Saturday I was at the Federal Poly, Ekowe, Southern Ijaw LGA. This large school is virtually built on water! It's a land reclaimed from swamp and curved around by Peremabri creek. You wont accept admission offer here! It costs several hundreds of million naira to reclaim less than a plot of land for the oilfield project that has brought me here. I wonder what govt is paying to erect that school.
If you've been to Bayelsa, Imo, Rivers, Delta and Edo (the ND states I've been to) for field work you'd understand what am talking about.
Unfortunately am not the type that does a lot of pix things, so what I say might as well not be believed. But I know I've stayed on the path of moral truth here.
So you can say exactly what you may have seen from where you are--if you're truly in the ND region--and not those who comment from their school hostel or hotel suite or highstreet somewhere in the midcity.
Meanwhile, the water here is so bad that I cant use borehole here to bath (only rainwater). Nwoke n'ife. All in the pursuit of happiness. I now have 1st hand idea of what the UNEP report means! The people dont value eductaion that much here, especially in the deeper communities, everything is expensive. Youths prefer allocation and egunje and settlement to honest wage. Women and men are too loose. But yet I see very promising youths too. State govt isnt doing very badly too.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Misses Speaking Slot At AU Gathering by 1MCN: 11:14am On May 26, 2013
But let truth be told, in the final analysis, when all is said is done, is it GEJ's speech that mattered most at that meeting? Was he billed to deliver a keynote address?
Why did SR not report that at that meeting GEJ and his accolytes secured AU's support for Nigeria's appointement to the permanent seat of the UN Security council? A struggle Nigeria has toasted for more than a decade. It didnt make their news?! Chai. Thank God for those who want us to fall, they give us a stronger reason to pin our toes into the soil.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Misses Speaking Slot At AU Gathering by 1MCN: 10:32am On May 26, 2013
Eko Ile: Do you know who is bringing your country down? Your useless and incompetent dullard president who failed to carry out his Nigerian and AU membership obligation. The people shaking their heads at the AU summit didn't shake it at Sahara reporters, they shook their heads at your worthless president and Nigeria.
God forbid I should say no man should critique our leaders. They must be. I keep saying thank God for opposition in politics everywhere. But my good friend, imagine SR reportage. Pure infantile. Pure speculation. Rash and harsh and rabid miscalculation. This isn't a responsible critiquing in my own thinking. Anonymous interviews. Hasty conclusions. Bin reportage.

And next, am considering not following your comments. I apologize for the earlier mistake of attempting to. I dont know how old you are, what stage of life you're in, whether you're a student or working class. I dread your incessant use of foul words. I know Yorubas are known with respect for elders. If you can so easily use such unprintable names to a man of such meat I wonder what my fate will be the day I disagree with you. In the spirit of civility I'd suggest you speak more gentlemanly. Criticize with respect for human dignity--whoever it is. I'd love to see you try that change. Thank you.

I wonder how these guys will stay in far away NYC and do everything to bring their home country (if they're truly Nigerians) to disgrace and failure just cos they dont like the face of the man there and his family. What will happen to them if they ever report good about our Nigeria?! This is corossive hate. God will bring all those who wish us evil into their untimely pulverization. Amen

PoliticsRe: The Politics Of Niger Bridge Project by 1MCN: 1:55pm On May 25, 2013
I think the construction of the second Niger bridge is one thing that'll give Jonathan more score to the people of South east than perhaps any other thing. The Works minister have severally acknowledged the facts mentioned here and I hear that full arrangements are been made to give that bridge a world class attention. Let's hope it incarnates. Considering that people from the South east hold some of the most enviable positions in the present cabinet and the support Jonathan enjoyed from that region during the last election and uptill now, there's not much reason to fear that this promise is a scam.

Again, late President Yar'adua had started a moot dredging of the lower niger. I wonder why am not hearing much about it again. I doubt if that project is still alive. If the lower niger is fully dredged and ships can deliver into the port I bet that LAGOS WILL DEFLATE cos most of the importers are Igbo and most of what they import are used in Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba so it'll make no sense importing from Lagos when there's Onitsha port. But painfully enough Nigerian politics for decades has been that of 'starve them so they become beggarly and pliable and menable and victory is sure.' But in the end we all keep ourselves on the ground.
God bless Nigeria and Nigerians.
PoliticsRe: Can Jonathan Be Interrupted Like Obama Was Addressing National Issue by 1MCN: 8:21am On May 25, 2013
This is what I think will happen if GEJ is interrupted in the middle of a speech: he'll immediately pause and allow the interrupter say what s/he wants but continue thereafter. If he feels the contribution wasnt agreeable with him he wont even give the person that courtesy of acknowledgement that Obama gave. He'll just loop over that and say only what he wants to say. As for his aides, I dont think they're that rabid to want to interfer or intervene.
But the biggest problem is: Will GEJ ever give Nigerians the chance of open press access. The guy hates to talk worst than anything I can think of. I've hardly heard him grant open interviews where people can put spontaneuos questions accross. I wonder what his fears are.

Restructuring and repositioning Nigeria will certainly take some tie and most of the good and laudable economic programmes and policies of this present administration will also take some time to become evident. Nigeria is a country in a haste, but like the proverbial tortoise in Igbo folklore that was trapped in the latrine for several days and on the day his kinsmen came to help him out of the pit he started shouting to them, ' do this fast am dying of shit stench here'. berem: Kudos to Leo Stan Eke. ndi imo are proud of you but it will be wise setting up some of your business in imo state.
I know he has always had a manufacturing plant in London and an assembly plant in Owerri. I hope he begins a manufacturing plant in Owerri or Aba or Onitsha or Awka or Nnewi or Enugu. These are very huge commercial centres and he'll create so much jobs for people. Well, he's a businessman and not a village chief or Igwe so he's more interested in a place that guarantees more return on investment.

When I listen to what PDP supporters say about anything concerning Opposition parties I only but wonder if they ever know that no society survives on a single political system without opposition. But then, when I listen to what Opposition parties supporters say I only but wonder if they only think a society is virile only when opposition just suddenly surreptiously wrestles power from ruling party.
@OP, I think this group have got a whole lot of work to do if they truly want power at the centre (that is, if their hope is not just illusion)going by the way things are turning out now. I've noticed that their previously vociferous support is waning very badly lately. They seem to be disappointing most of their supporters lately.
But then, must they always accuse ruling party of plotting to destabilize their show? Are they saying this just to lay a cushion at their back so that when out of their own mistake they fail they'll fall on the soft spot (of blaming that ruling party have caused their)? If they don't have a means of hedging themselves properly then they're no better or credible option.

This idea has been previously sold by the CAN president Pst Ayor, I think sometime in 2011, that in any state where there is violence and destruction the federal govt should use the allocation of such state to prosecute the restoration of peace, safety and security of people and property in the area and to repair the damages incurred. By this, the govs will do everything to nip in the bud any attempt to disrupt public tranquility in their state cos if not the osusu that shud enter their ministry will be on a long thing.
Thank God the legislators adopted this far reaching measure.
I think GEJ might win big in this whole fight, and those who want to use this to achieve Presidency are already been tossed by overwhelming tempest.
God bless Nigeria and Nigerians

From the very first day I saw this man Leo Stan Eke the owner of the company in 2007 I knew he was a very visionary fellow. May God bless his efforts. Am waiting to hear this kind of gooodnews also about Mr Okey (hope I got the name correct) the MD of Computer Warehouse in London. He impressed me a lot when I met him in a seminar in 2008.
God bless all men who work hard to make life good for themselves and others.
