michlins: unfortunately there's no God to do that. You don't wall into a fire and expect not to be burnt. The only way God can change their situation is if the man doesn't father the kids
Lionessza6: LOL, you could start with pidgin , Afrikaans also started off as such . Just eliminate the English words though lol. I understand this can't be easy in many African countries, I would say we were mostly lucky because at the time these languages were made official we all had one enemy and I can imagine that people had no energy for any more fights, especially fighting ourselves . There are calls to combine all the languages and come up with one , although I don't see that hapenning anytime soon , I think it would be a great development .
Yes , coloureds are the mixed race people.
LOL, really?. I don't know of any black artist who sings in Afrikaans, perhaps you listened to our national anthem? .
They do , but there are few of them in south Africa. We have pockets of their communities here in my home province and the Northern cape ( not the impostors ).
Do you have the accent? . How are race relations over there ?. Not only between blacks and whites, but also Asians ?. I've been seeing a lot of news about Asian miscreants over there , but don't know what to make of it (I'm always reluctant to believe most things from your BBC ). Were you born there ?. How are relations between you guys and the Carribeans in particular the Jamaicans ?.
Hmm..ok that's an idea but pidgin has so many English words it's going to be hard.
Lol for real I feel like your languages do sound a bit dutch has anyone mentioned that before?
Do the khoisan ppl relate with everyone else or do they isolate themselves?
Yes I do have the accent but when I'm with fellow Nigerians I soften it a bit. Even on this forum I type in a very Nigerian way but not with other ppl. And yes I was born here but have lived in naija for a bit.
I would say race relations are just ok. There is a little bit of racism here and there. I'm not sure if you heard about a white comedian joking about the new royal baby being a monkey. Asian miscreants? Lol..are you talking about the islamization of Europe/ the west? The so called asylum seekers that come to Europe from Muslim countries and start reeking havoc on the locals and turn the neighbourhoods into mini Saudi Arabia. They want women to dress modest and they want sharia law and anybody who speaks out on this is called islamophobic and racist.
I feel like blacks aren't the problem of whites anymore they have a new problem. I think the whites actually prefer blacks now because unlike the Asians we assimilate more into western society and it's rare to meet a black person that doesn't understand English in the UK. Quite a number of Muslim Asians don't understand English like blacks and they don't assimilate like blacks cos they don't like western society.
Not understanding the language of your host country shows disrespect and shows you don't care especially if you've been in the UK for decades. It's also likely the person also doesn't have a job and is living off someone else. That's also something the whites are frustrated with about the Muslim Asians.
Between carribeans? lol..our relationship has definately improved especially among we young ppl because we are more open minded and obsessed with social justice unlike our parents/ grandparents.
When afrobeats became more mainstream that helped us showcase and be proud of our identity, cos ppl from other cultures started knowing more about African music and wearing African prints became more fashionable. So the Jamaicans liked it too. because back in the day I would say about in the 80s to the noughties being african was looked down upon. So Africans would lie about their nationality and claim Jamaican. The Carribeans called us ugly and dirty with hard hair. That doesn't happen now, Africa has been on the map.
Africans in return did also look down on Jamaicans cos they are slave descendants. They say Jamaicans have no language and culture with baby mamas eveywhere lol this is only popular with the older generation of Africans. Older ppl in general can be narrow minded. Do you live in SA?
Lionessza6: Maybe !. There were a lot of disagreements initially because other smaller groups who wanted their languages recognised were forced under the official 9. I know in my home province there are still cries about it , but no one really cares , we are all xhosa now to everyone else . How many tribes do you have in Nigeria ?.
Most Coloureds speak Afrikaans as their first language. There are not many young black people that are fluent in Afrikaans but we use a lot of words from the language in our daily communication (mostly slang). There are a lot of white people ( mostly farmers ) who speak African languages, there are also a lot that don't.
Race relations are rocky at the moment ( it was election time) , this is usually when a lot of hate becomes visible. Normally , people are generally " friendly " . Basically those who want to socialise with each other do so , and those who prefer to hang or live among their own are also free to do so. But the last part ( living with your own) is getting more difficult as more and more South Africans join the middle and rich classes ( particularly for whites).
Do you live in Nigeria ?
Lol..there are over 200 ! But with 3 large popular tribes, so that could never work out. There would be a war, it has happened before.
Are coloureds the mixed race ppl?
That makes sense cos when I hear black SAn songs I feel like it does sound a bit dutch.
nwanneni: the guy may be like 28yrs old at the time. Men my dad went crazy!!! but one thing about my sister is that she isn't somebody that can be fooled tho. She has been like that since inception. Even my brother's laundry guy at the time wanted to play something silly at the time too but he didn't succeed. You mean the fool even gave appointment time?
Thumbs up to your sis tho.. the typical naija kid is expected to say 'yes uncle'
IronGalaxy: the ethnic groups of South Africa ( excluding white and indian people ) are Pedi Swati Ndebele Xhosa Zulu Sotho Tsonga Venda Ndebele San/ Khoi tribes Some ethnic groups are more concentrated in certain regions ,for example.... Zulu is the most spoken and understood language in South Africa however the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal has the most Zulu speakers since it's the kingdom of the Zulu. The Venda , Tsonga and Pedi are more concentrated in the Limpopo province. Xhosa people are mostly found at the Cape. both Eastern and Western Cape. Swati and Ndebele are mostly at Mpumalanga province The Tswana and Sotho are mostly found at North West Gauteng province, the economic hub of South Africa is the melting pot of all tribes. Afrikaans, although synonymous with white people is however mostly spoken by non- whites.
Oh I see.. that's not alot at all compared to Nigeria. It's easier to make your language official.
So black South Africans speak Afrikaans too? Do the whites also speak black SouthAfrican languages too?
My father reported the boy to his father and he got the beating of his life from his dad. Then my father made my 10 year-old brother write a love letter to their only 8 year-old sister(an only daughter too), and made sure THEIR DAD read it too!
The randy 17 year-old son kept his distance FOR LIFE!
Lionessza6: There is no language that is dominant through-out the whole country , but I would say Zulu is the most used and easier to learn for many of us.
We have 9 Provinces /States and 6 out of the 9 have one language that is dominant , the other 3 have two or more dominant languages.
Most South Africans can speak about 5 or 6 of the official languages , and many can understand the rest but cannot speak or write them . We are forced to understand most of the languages because most soapies/ dramas on SABC( state owned broadcaster ) do not use much English . The news are also delivered in all languages ( different languages have their time slots). In parliament you can use any language you want, that goes for the courts and other public institutions. Everything that is important is written in all languages e.g the constitution. There are talks of developing a new language that unites all the Afrian languages though, which would not be such a bad idea but that will take a long time as we still have a lot to deal with.
How is this possible tho? How many ethnicities/tribes are in SA? Doesn't each ethnic group have their own region and dominant language? Do the 11 languages represent the most dominant groups?
