A severely disabled young lady from Germany has found the cure for her medically incurable disease in the unlikeliest of places – a church in Lagos, Nigeria. Nicole Wezolek came to The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) from her European base on a wheelchair after she was diagnosed with the debilitating disease of multiple sclerosis. Medical doctors had pronounced her a ticking time-bomb with little less than a year to live as her entire body became increasingly numb and failed to respond to all treatment. Having watched T.B. Joshua’s famed miracles on YouTube, Nicole decided to take the journey to Lagos, Nigeria, accompanied by her mother Marefe. Sitting in the church on Sunday 15th January 2017, Pastor T.B. Joshua approached her and gave a word of prophecy that she was plagued by a suicidal spirit and depression, facts her mother instantly confirmed. A video released by Emmanuel TV’s YouTube channel on Saturday 28th January 2017 shows Miss Wezolek falling heavily to the ground after Joshua’s prayer, the unusual contortions of her body showing the extent of the multiple sclerosis. The following Sunday, Nicole and her mother returned to The SCOAN to testify to her total healing. Showing her official card from the German government which classified her as a disabled person requiring the constant assistance of someone, Nicole said that feeling had returned to her body for the first time in one year after the prayer. “The numbness is gone,” she told congregants. “I can feel my body one hundred percent and I’m happy that I can walk again.” To cap off their miraculous Nigerian adventure, T.B. Joshua gave the duo $2,000 on their return to Germany. “It’s overwhelming,” Marefe tearfully concluded, “I am touched with all your help.” http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/photos-disabled-german-lady-receives.html

The Commissioner for Health in Plateau, Dr Kunden Deyin, said the state recorded four deaths, while laboratory tests confirmed five cases of Lassa fever since December 2016. The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday via telephone interview in Jos that 80 per cent of the mortality rate was due to late presentation of patients to health care facilities. Deyin said “the mortality rate is as high as 80 per cent; the reason is that people are reporting very late, Lassa fever is best managed when patients start taking the drug within the first week of contracting the disease. “The symptoms are similar to that of malaria such as nausea, body weakness and joint pains; it is at advanced stage that symptoms such as bleeding from the eyes, nose, mouth or private part occur.” The commissioner, who said that getting the drug for the management of Lassa fever was difficult as it was not readily sold in the open market, added that the state was trying to access the drugs from the Federal Ministry of Health. He said the state ministry had, however, alerted healthcare workers in the state to be on alert and to have “high index of suspicion.” http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/4-dead-5-cases-recorded-as-lassa-fever.html https://www.dailyafricagist.com/discussion/foto/lassa-fever.jpg?DailyAfricaGist |

Remembrance Day: NAF Releases Identities of 12 Officers Killed In Boko Haram Fight Each year, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) provides an opportunity to remember the gallant men and women who, as members of Nigeria's Armed Forces, died serving their fatherland. In the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), today’s remembrance celebration reechoes the sweet memories of the fallen heroes in blue uniforms who, at the expense of their lives, have paid the huge cost of preserving our sovereignty as a nation as well as the freedom and security of the rest of us. The NAF, in recent past, has lost a number of gallant officers and men to the counter insurgency and counter terrorist operation in the North East, as well as to other internal security operations across the country. They include: 1. Umar Abubakar: The very first NAF casualty of the Boko Haram insurgency was Sergeant Umar Abubakar slaughtered by the insurgents on 25 July 2013 in Maiduguri. 2. Flight Lieutenant Akweke Junior Nwakile:The heart wrecking death of Umar abubabkar was followed by the death of Flight Lieutenant Akweke Junior Nwakile who died in a helicopter crash on 21 July 2014 while on a training mission south of Bama, Borno State. 3&4. Captain Abdulrasheed Bamidele Braimoh & Wing Commander Chinda Hedima: The missing Alpha Jet (NAF/466), involving Group Captain Abdulrasheed Bamidele Braimoh and Wing Commander Chinda Hedima, is also a case to remember on this special occasion. The aircraft went down on 12 September 2014 at Kauri while undertaking an air interdiction mission against the Boko Haram Terrorists. Whereas the death of Wing Commander Hedima has been confirmed by own soldier who witnessed his killing by the terrorists, the fate of his co-pilot, Group Captain Braimoh, is yet uncertain for now as nothing definite points to his demise. While earnestly pray and hope for his return, the air of uncertainty about his whereabouts necessitated the current stance by the NAF that he is still missing in action. 5&6. Captain Ubong Akpan and Hosea Zabesan: The NAF again recorded the unfortunate loss of Group Captain Ubong Akpan and Master Warrant Officer Hosea Zabesan in another helicopter crash on 13 November 2014. The duo had embarked on an operational flight against the insurgents but went down near Yola, Adamawa State. 7. Flying Officer Duke Toryem: The painful death of Flying Officer Duke Toryem on 21 May 2015 is another case to remember. The young officer was on patrol when his vehicle stepped on landmine planted by the Boko Haram Terrorists. 8. Flight Lieutenant Ebitimi Owei: Furthermore, one cannot but appreciate the role of Flight Lieutenant Ebitimi Owei in the collective effort torestore peace to the North East. Late Owei, an F-7Ni pilot, crashed due to bad weather in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State while returning to base after successfully undertaking an interdiction mission against the insurgents on 28 August 2015.The victims of the ill-fated Dornier 228 aircraft that crashed in Kaduna is another death too many to remember at a time like this. The crew, along with passengers onboard, had gone down in the line of duty on 28 August 2015 while on flight from Kadunato Abuja. These heroes include: 9.Squadron Leader Adekunle Suara 10. Flying Officer Kehinde Olaniran 11. Warrant Officer Akpan Etim 12. ACW Naomi Abegunde. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/remembrance-day-naf-releases-identities.html cc lalasticlala

The Presidency has reacted to extra judicial killing of another Nigerian in the South Africa by security agents. The Senior Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the killing of a Nigerian in South Africa as “worrying and condemnable”. In a statement Dabiri-Erewa said the latest gruesome killing of Tochukwu Nnadi by Police in South Africa, was unacceptable to the people and government of Nigeria. While reiterating President Muhammadu Buhari’s calls to Nigerians to avoid crimes like drug peddling which attracts stiff penalties, sometimes death, she however noted that the killing of Nnadi had brought to 20 Nigerians killed in South Africa through extra-judicial means in 2016 alone. “The barbaric behaviour of the perpetrators is not only unacceptable, but also calls for urgent attention by diplomatic authorities in Nigeria and South Africa,” she said. Dabiri-Erewa urged the South African government to ensure that justice prevailed by carrying out investigation and bring the culprit to book. A Nigerian based in South Africa, Tochukwu Nnadi, was allegedly choked to death by Police in South Africa on Thursday, December 29, 2016 after he was arrested for allegedly selling drugs. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/presidency-reacts-to-killing-of-another.html cc lalasticlala |

The Presidency has released a statement explaining why President Muhammadu Buhari did not attend the recent security summit in Enugu state: Contrary to media reports alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari snubbed the recent South-East Economic and Security Summit in Enugu, below is the accurate account: The President was presented with a request to attend the Economic and Security Summit by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. The President happily accepted. The visit to Enugu was scheduled for Thursday 22nd as can be found on the weekly programme. After this was done, some other stakeholders from the South East came and advised him not to go in view of the closeness of the date to Christmas; given the sensitivity of the period to the people, a presidential visit may come with overexertion and possibly, be disruptive of Christmas. In view of this, President Buhari requested that the event be pushed forward to January 2017. Given his nature, he did not insist. He said if the change of date is not possible, then the event could go on without him. That is what the organizers chose to do. The President did not, and he absolutely has no reason to snub anyone. The singer who was nominated for the ‘Next Rated’ has been kicked off the list. The category will now be tightly contested by Ycee, Aramide, Humblesmith and Mr Eazi, as the ‘Pana’ hit star misses out on the chance. Nominees are expected to attend promo activities for the event, and also take part in promotion for the category sponsor, Hyundai.
