PoliticsVIDEO: No One Can Point To A Single Lie From Me – Lai Mohammed by 247frolicboss(op): 1:47pm On Jun 04, 2017
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed looks to have lost his edge against a worthy opponent after he appeared on the latest episode of the Osasu Show where he assessed the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration at Two.

The Minister who seemed unprepared for the heavy lifting which came at him during the interview had earlier been questioned on his take regarding Nigerians who have accused him of telling ‘little white lies’ to which he replied that this was mainly because he was the face of the opposition party for nearly a decade.

He added that the second reason why Nigerians have accused him of telling lies to favour the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is because quite a big section of the internet is yet to forgive him for the role he played in ousting PDP from office.

He said: “I think quite a big section of the internet is yet to forgive me for the role I played in the coming of this government. Many of them hold me personally responsible for the defeat of the PDP.”

Lai Mohammed added that “It was Nigerians who wanted a new government,” and he helped.

The Information Minister further dared anyone to come out with facts proving he had indeed lied to Nigerians at any point to favour the Buhari-led administration.

PoliticsNigerians To Get Six Months Imprisonment For Shunting Or Distorting Queues by 247frolicboss(op): 8:16am On Jun 02, 2017
A new bill to impose six months prison term on persons who shunt or distort queues in public places has passed its second reading on the floor of the Nigerian House of Representatives.

The bill sponsored by Rep. Abubakar Amuda-Kannike representing Kwara on the APC platform passed its second reading on Thursday as the bill seeks to ensure proper conduct of Nigerians in public places.

Amuda-Kannike while defending the bill said it was a normal practice for some Nigerians to shunt or distort queues and go unpunished adding that the recent events have shown that some Nigerians lack the proper etiquette and are on the verge of losing its cherished sense of nationalism, cultural identity and hospitality.

He added: “The bill underscores the need to re-awaken a derailed national culture by proposing disciplinary measures to guide Nigerians in their daily behaviours.

“In our society today, out of total disregard for other persons, who strive to do the right thing by conducting themselves orderly in public places, a large number of Nigerians distort queues and go unpunished.

“The bill if passed shall provide a starting point of value and cultural re-orientation in Nigeria.”

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on Nigerians to stop birthing more children than they can cater for.

He spoke on Thursday when Mohammed malick Fall, the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) representative in Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit in Kano.

‘’for you to have kids you must make sure that the responsibility of their education, health, and general up-bringing both morally and otherwise are part and parcel of what a parent should do’’.

He said "it is not only giving birth to the child that matters, but how to take your responsibility as a parent to bring-up that child to grow and be a benefit to the society in general’’ saying ‘’if people are aware of this they will not even have many kids that they know they cannot take care of’’.

PoliticsSenate Passes NFF Bill by 247frolicboss(op): 10:20am On May 31, 2017
Nigerian Senate on Tuesday passed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Bill 2017 after third reading.

The passage followed a clause by clause consideration of the bill and a voice vote by the lawmakers.

Sponsor of the Bill, Sen. Obinna Ogba, had presented the report of the Committee on Sports and Youth Development before the passage.

Presenting the report, Ogba, explained that it had become important to repeal the extant law guiding activities of football in the country in view of controversies surrounding its implementation.

He said there had been series of court cases relating to football and that the passage of the bill would bring such to rest as issues regarding the NFF would be tackled by the Court of Arbitration and not regular courts.

“It has become necessary to repeal the Extant Act. This is because it requires a lot of amendments to bring it into agreement with FIFA required international best practices. It is to give the desired boost it requires.’’

EducationNigerian Teen Accepted Into 8 Ivy League Schools by 247frolicboss(op): 10:12am On Apr 11, 2017
A 17-year-old Nigerian teenager, Jude Okonkwo, based in the United States, has been accepted into the eight Ivy League schools.

Okonkwo’s story comes a week after another Nigerian-born teenager, Ifeoma White-Thorpe, also gained admission into all eight Ivy League schools.

The Chaminade high school student was accepted by Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University.

Speaking with WCBS-880, Okonkwo, said, “It’s a tremendous honour to gain acceptance to all eight Ivy League schools. It’s something I never could have imagined.”

Okonkwo, who wants to study medicine says he is leaning towards Harvard.

“Hospitals were severely impacted by the storm while so many people needed so much help. It motivated me to serve as a summer lifeguard for the disabled after we moved to New York,” he said.

“My parents enrolled me in swimming lessons after seeing the powerful flood waters Katrina brought ashore, and I realised I could use swimming to help people.

“Tragedies occur in everyday life, and I want to be someone who can help a person and their family heal in their times of need.

“Right now, I’m leaning towards Harvard, because I applied there on early action and I’ve had a chance to kind of engage with the community and get a sense of what the school is all about. But I’m still very much open to the other schools and I want to learn more about them.”
