Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Onyeka Nwelue has launched a political party named PP. Progress Party is mainly for Nigerian youths, he said. Based in the UK, Nwelue called on Nigerian youths to come together and join hands with him to exit President Muhammadu Buhari from office. He wrote this on his Facebook wall: #ProgressParty There is no electricity if you meet surgeons who know what they are doing. And if they have a blaring generator in Nigeria, there are other problems - they don't have the things needed. The hospitals in Nigeria are jokes! A few private hospitals still have to fly in foreign doctors. Even when the Nigerian public officers get sick, they jet off to India, Germany and the US. You can hear them proudly say these things. No iota of shame. It was so heavy for me today that I said to my mother, 'I'm tired!' She only went to bed after midnight as she kept looking at me and thinking. She came to my room and said: "Nna, I understand!” People have laughed when I said I want to have an organized control over Nigeria. I know people who came to Nigeria to contribute and the system changed them. We can't keep running. I'm never going to acquire any other citizenship. I will not. I have had the opportunities too, but I will not. I will stick with Nigeria, but whether Nigerians love it or not, we have to find a solution to our problems. Our parents have failed. My parents suddenly agreed that they failed and they want us to correct the mistake they made. We can't fail our children now. We can change Nigeria. We can get a metro system, we can have a shift in our mentality. We can restore the dignity of the Nigerian. We can see pride in our passports again. You can laugh all you want. Not to sound mischievous, some of us still have the privilege to run away, but if you're surrounded by poverty-stricken people, all you will feel is rage and angst. Nwelue is an assistant visiting professor of African Studies and Literature at Manipur University Imphal, India. http://www.newshelm.com/2016/12/onyeka-nwelue-to-launch-political-party.html cc lalasticlala

The holidays are here again, and everyone is excited about it. For so many people, it is time to travel to see loved ones, and do so many wonderful together. It also behoves on everyone to be conscious of the environment that we live in, also considering the security situation in the country. So many people have been victims of kidnapping, ritual killings, etc. Here is a look at some helpful ways you can keep yourself safe. 1. If you're a first-time traveller to a place, have a trusted travel guide: During Christmas, it cannot be displaced that so many people leave their base to celebrate at some other places – some of which they have not been before. If you are among these people, ensure you have a tour/travel guide. Don't be overly-excited of the new atmosphere such that you want to explore the place on your own. Stick to a travel guide who knows the ins/out of the whole place. 2. Ensure you walk in daylight or in pairs: Much more than any time of the year, December is a time to be very conscious and cautious. Whatever keeps you late at night for most times of the year should be avoided in December, and during Christmas. Ensure you have your plans properly mapped out that you arrive your destination in daytime, and if it is unavoidable to be home early, make sure you walk in pairs – it guarantees a level of safety. 3. If you're travelling, keep your travel plans offline: If you are planning to travel during the holiday season, be sure to keep your travel plans off your social media networks. Never post where you are going, when you are leaving, or when you will be back. This is prime information for a thief because he will know when your house will be empty. Even if you have the highest-level of security on your Facebook or Twitter accounts, posting this personal information is never recommended. 4. Notify a neighbour, or close associate if you're travelling: If you are planning to go out of town during the holiday season, be sure to notify a trusted neighbor. Ask the neighbor to keep an eye on your house and report any suspicious activity. Make sure your house looks like somebody is at home to prevent a burglar. It is also important to let your close associates know where you are off to so they can quickly detect if something goes wrong. 5. Don't hangout with a stranger: As much as the internet age has afforded us the opportunity to meet and connect with new people and friends from other climes, it is safe to advice that one should have a second thought on hanging out with newly-met friends at this time. Dates could be inviting and destructive. Weigh your options very well before hanging out with someone you just met via social networks, emails or telephone conversation. 6. Maintain frequent communication: Your mode of communication with people should be heightened at this time. Be in touch with people as much as possible. Especially loved ones, and close friends, communicate your movements with them so they can be assured everything is all right. 7. Keep you keep your social media profile active: Ah, very importantly, you have to be reachable! Don't go offline at this time! If you've a device that easily saps power, now is the time to get one of the small mobiles that conserves power, such that if the other one goes off, you can easily switch your active line to another device. Your social media accounts are also key at the time. A tweet, a Facebook post, an Instagram photo share can let people know that you are alive. So, as much as possible try to maintain an active social media presence so your followers can quickly know if something is wrong. --- All of the above is to ensure you are safe, and to have a happy holidays! http://www.newshelm.com/2016/12/7-ways-to-keep-yourself-safe-during.html cc lalasticlala |

The United Kingdom has adopted a new visa application process for Nigerians, British High Commission on Friday announced. Spokesperson of the commission, Joe Abuku, said the new process is only a bit different from the previous one. In order to avoid delays in the visa application centre, the Commission requested applicants to ensure they complied with requirement to provide all documents in A4 size, while any other documents smaller or larger than A4 should be photocopied onto A4 sized paper. http://www.newshelm.com/2016/12/uk-rolls-out-new-visa-application.html cc lalasticlala |
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has stressed the need for Nigeria to develop its own plan capable of effectively addressing the current economic downturn. Fashola, who spoke while delivering a lecture on “Freedom from Fear, Choices before the New Generation” to mark the 42nd convocation of the University of Benin, Edo State, said that Nigerians must overcome their fears and use their natural resources to create solutions and improve their lives. While addressing the graduating students, he said, “We will not pray our way out of recession; we will plan and produce our way back to prosperity and out of recession and you are the freshest, youngest and most energetic workforce we will have to work with. “You are the new batteries to power the engine of growth of our country. Your choices must be clear, free from fear, not reckless but driven by analytical thought, questioning and probing and ultimately determined by convictions.” According to him, young Nigerians must, like their counterparts in developed countries, free their minds from fear, rather than depend solely on spiritual answers to the problems. http://www.newshelm.com/2016/11/your-prayers-cannot-take-us-out-of.html

A document which was released on November 16th, shows that Dbanj signed a memorandum of understanding with a technology company on October 19, 2012, for the promotion of a concert organized by his media house, D’Kings Men Media LTD. Apparently, the contract states that Dbanj would be personally liable for the payment of the sums of money in the event of D’Kings Media failure to pay. When D’Kings Men media failed to pay back, Mindhub Technologies called for the repayment from Dbanj and he reportedly paid only $260,000 and N8,600,000, leaving the outstanding sum of $240,000 and N6,400,000. The company has now taken the issue up legally. They’ve made it known that all efforts made by them for him to pay proved abortive. In his bid to pay the aforementioned outstanding sums, Dbanj issued a Skye Bank cheque No. 10000039 on December 29, 2013, in the sum of $240,000 in the name of Henry Ojogho, Mindhub’s Vice Chairman. The cheque was returned unpaid due to lack of funds in the Dbanj’s account. D’banj issued another GT Bank cheque No.00000046 dated January 20, 2014, in the sum of N15, 000,000 in favour of Mindhub and it was also returned unpaid. Consequently, MindHub filed a suit in 2015 against Dbanj to recover the sums of money. The case is currently before Justice Oyebanjo of the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Division and would be due for hearing on December 9, 2016. http://www.newshelm.com/2016/11/photos-dbanj-gets-sued-over-n100m.html cc lalasticlala

She has asked for divorce and he beats the hell out of her for bringing it up, because it'll dent the image he has made society believe of him, she's currently under lock and keys and he's not letting her go out. She sent out an SOS and has asked that her story be made public. He's very influential with the police force so it's almost impossible to rely on them. He constantly threatens to kill her or take away her kids if she sneaks away. She has tried to leave many times but security is tight. She's terrified of him and is a shadow of herself but after years of domestic violence she has become bold enough to go public about it. If nothing is done, God forbid her corpse is the next we'll see! This isn't the first, second or third time, it has been happening and she's had so many hospital visits to treat the injuries inflicted on her by him. Chikwe Udensi is a womaniser, a violent abuser, arrogant and almost heartless. I'm calling on human rights activists, lawyers and just anyone that can help fight free this woman, No one deserves to die in marriage NOBODY! Please share till this goes viral, Chidinma is asking that this be made public before she's beaten to death. PLS PLS share as if she's your sister, niece, daughter, sibling till help comes. If you can help or know anyone who can help, kindly mail: savechidinma@gmail.com God bless" Mrs Udenzi shared a short video of her brutalized face today. Well, be as it may, Nigerians have taken solace in sport betting. It’s now a new normal in Nigeria to see young people, especially, on the streets and queues strugling their way to place their bets on the five major leagues in world football. The English premier league, Spanish Primera la Liga, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga and the French league. Other minor leagues are also not excluded. In short, Nigerian youths have seen sport betting as another way to make put food on their table. Why do many Nigerian youths engage in Sports betting? Here are reasons why. Unemployment: The high rate of unemployment in Nigeria has been responsible for the wild spread of sport betting in Nigeria, with so many youths pouring their money into it to get returns on investment. It is a two-way thing; others may have lost out but a lot of them have made huge cash. And it has put food on the tables of many as well. Influence: Sports betting is pervasive such that it is viewed in Nigerian society as 'normal thing - 'almost every body around you is involved and this serve as a ready influence. Love of Sports: The love of sports by many Nigerian youths is also the reasons behind sport betting. Nigerians are sport lovers. More engagement in sports: Besides the money a lot of people make from sport bettings, it has also polished their engagement in sports, in that they keep close tabs on games that they have staked on. Economic Condition: The economic condition has given way to why many Nigerian youths engage in sports betting. The environment is not safe for businesses. Some don't even have such enough huge capital to start up. They rather go for sport bettings- that they don't have to to spend much on. It is a Pot of Gold: Access to fast, risk free cash is one of the reasons many people engage in sports betting. It is stress free, and direct access to cash. Greed also comes into play. It could be tagged as a 'business' that you invest with as little as N50 to win as much as any amount, if the predictions are correct. Who wouldn't be enticed with such bait? http://www.newshelm.com/2016/11/why-people-play-sportsbet.html cc lalasticlala |
