PoliticsSaraki Seeks Eradication Of Child Labour by 247frolicboss(op): 6:55pm On Jun 12, 2016
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Sunday called for eradication of Child Labour as part of activities marking this year's World Day Against Child Labour with the theme: "End child labour from the supply chain".

Saraki in a statement by his Special Assistant on Gender Advocacy, Fatima Kakuri, urged all stakeholders to work towards bequeathing a future devoid of child and all other forms of inhuman practices against children.

The statement reads: "In this 2016 World Day Against Child Labour, we wish to express our support and join the global community in eradicating child labour from the supply chain. We find this year’s theme (end child labour in supply chain) both apt and significant as we reflect on the particular challenges that our nation faces which have heightened considerably the vulnerabilities of our children to exploitation.

"Millions of our children are trapped in child labour, hawking on our streets, working under appalling inhuman conditions in small informal sector enterprises instead of being in school. These challenges are huge and complex and not unconnected with the security situation and economic conditions of most families. Yet we must find a way out of this problem.

"We recognize the menace of child laour, abuse, rape and abduction in our dear nation; the Chibok girls remain fresh in our minds and our hearts remain with the families of the girls until they are recovered.
.
"Among our peculiar problems, early child marriages, baby factory syndrome, domestic violence tied toconservative religious and cultural beliefs remain serious obstacles in our quest to liberate the Nigerian child.

" The good news is that, the Senate is doing all within its powers to see that we reverse the situation. Presently, we have embarked on a comprehensive review of our Labour laws and the Child Rights Act to eliminate any gaps, offer adequate protection and provide mechanism for redress in cases of child labour abuse. Equally, we are working to ensure a uniform enactment and enforcement of the Child Rights Act in all states in the nation.

"We remain concerned and committed to putting an end to child labour by catalyzing action with key stakeholders and engaging the full capacities of the senate oversight functions in our determination to change the status quo. We are also committed to supporting the executive in its pursuit to eliminate the manace of child labour which at best perpetuates poverty and illiteracy.

"Protecting our children from abuse and all forms of exploitation must be a priority. We hope for a better Nigeria and must join forces and renew our commitment to make the future of work in Nigeria, a future, without child labour," he said.

Signed

Fatima Kakuri
Special Assistant to the Senate President on Gender Advocacy

Oluwasegun Fayose, Brother to Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has stated that he completely disagrees with his brother on his comments about Fulani Herdsmen.

Fayose snr. Had been credited with statements that indicate that he’d welcome farmers’ attack on Fulani Herdsmen.

Segun Fayose in an interview with the nation disagreed with this move and many other utterances from the Ekiti state governor saying that they were embarrassing to the rest of the family.

“I totally disagree with him. I do not like what he is doing. He is dragging the family name in the mud. I read in national dailies that Ayo Fayose was inciting Ekiti people against herdsmen.

“I have never seen where a leader talks like this before. I spent most of my life in Europe. I left Nigeria in 1976. My children are still there. I want them to be able to come home. I do not want to be harassed. Let it be on record that I do not support this kind of aggressive method of governance. He is too vulgar for my liking”

Oluwasegun went on to advise his brother to keep quiet as his statements don’t portray the family in a good light.

PoliticsRe: PHOTOS: JTF Frees 157 Boko Haram Captives At Gombori Village, Borno by 247frolicboss(op): 4:23pm On Jun 01, 2016

PoliticsPHOTOS: JTF Frees 157 Boko Haram Captives At Gombori Village, Borno by 247frolicboss(op): 4:21pm On Jun 01, 2016
The Nigerian troops deployed in Operation LAFIYA DOLE and their neighbouring counterparts under the Multinational Joint Task Force have been very busy clearing the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in their respective areas of responsibilities. In the process, they were able to rescue quite a number of abducted persons, arrested suspected Boko Haram terrorists, recovered weapons and equipment.

The troops of 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion, 25 Task Force Brigade on 30th May 2016, received 79 persons who claimed to have been kept captives by Boko Haram terrorists at Ngwalimiri village but escaped at their location. They comprised 12 men, 24 women, 31 children and 12 infants. All of them are undergoing preliminary investigation and screening to determine their status before onward movement to Internally Displaced Persons camp for rehabilitation.

In furtherance of the efforts to keep Bitta-Damboa road open and secure to commuters, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade have cleared Bulajani, Mulgwo and Muotu villages of remnants of Boko Haram elements.

During an encounter at Moutu specifically, a soldier sustained an injury on the forehead, while 5 Boko Haram terrorists were killed by the troops, while a few others were suspected to escape with gun shot wounds. The troops recovered 3 locally made guns.

The advancing troops linked up with their counterparts of 25 Task Force Brigade at Gombori village and rescued 157 persons escaping from Boko Haram terrorists captivity. The rescued persons comprised 47 women, 91 children, 19 men. They are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and thorough screening to also determine their status.

In a related development, troops of 7 Division Garrison arrested a 28 year old suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ spy, Musa Mallam Aman, around the Garrison Headquarters complex in Maiduguri metropolis. Preliminary investigation confirmed that he hailed from Maradhi village in Niger Republic and added that he was not alone as there were Boko Haram terrorists spies in Maiduguri. While efforts have been intensified to track and arrest his other accomplices, Musa has since been handed over to Joint Interrogation Committee (JIC).

Troops of 22 Brigade Garrison and their Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Dikwa have also embarked on routine and fighting patrols to maintain security on construction and rehabilitation works of public buildings and infrastructure that would facilitate return of public officials and people back to their ancestral homes.

In addition, the troops have been carrying out clearance operations and patrols to keep Maiduguri-Mafa-Dikwa-Gomboru Ngala road open and secure.

The troops of 26 Task Force Brigade on their part, have intensified patrols and clearance operations in their area of responsibility. It was in that process that they discovered an Unexploded Object (UXO) and its casing at Hausari Street Gada Mayo yesterday afternoon.

Similarly, another patrol team of the Brigade yesterday successfully cleared Boko Haram terrorists hideouts along Gwoza-Kwatara-Kasa-Uvaha hills. The troops also rescued 4 men, 2 women and 5 children that fled Boko Haram terrorists location at Uvaha as a result of the formation’s offensive against the terrorists.

In a related development 77 Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered themselves to troops of 122 Task Force Battalion. They comprised 17 men, 16 women, 16 male children and 28 female children. The surrendered terrorists have been moved to Yamteke by combined team of 26 Task Force Brigade for preliminary investigation and screening.

Troops have also arrested a deserter soldier, 03NA/53/3098 Corporal Musa Titima of 117 Task Force Battalion, attached to 114 Task Force Battalion, who absconded from duty while on Operation CRACKDOWN at Bitta. The soldier was also allegedly involved in a fracas with Mr Salisu Ngatha at Kabang Ward on 30th May 2016 that led to the death of the civilian. The soldier has been moved to the Brigade headquarters for proper investigation and other disciplinary process.

Following tip off by well meaning Nigerians, troops of 7 Division Garrison, conducted clearance patrol at the following villages; Abachari, Asanari, Mediari, Toluwari, Chuwnari, Gaya, Zarumari, Alanari, Shuwari, Ngadaya, Chempo, Samaa, Matari, Utoro and Kayamla in Jere and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State on 31st May 2016.

During the patrol, troops came in contact with members of Boko Haram terrorists group at Samaa village, killing a number of them and recovered 3 motorcycles, 143 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 2 bicycles, 2 bags if mango, 1 tricycle tyre pump 2 water bottles and pellets for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) making.

The morale of troops in the theatre of operations remains very high.

We would like to reiterate our earlier calls on the public especially in Borno State, to be security conscious and cooperate with the security agencies.

You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

PoliticsNiger State Governor – I Can No Longer Pay Workers’ Salaries by 247frolicboss(op): 4:02pm On Jun 01, 2016
https://i2.wp.com/www.gidipoint.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Abubakar-Bello.jpg?w=409
The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello on Wednesday declared that he is finding it difficult to pay workers’ salaries due to the currently economic hardship the country is facing.

Bello made the disclosure while addressing State House correspondents shortly after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to Bello, “We have laid the cards on the table; we are not hiding anything. We are very transparent as much as we can but the truth of the matter is that I cannot give what we don’t have. I wish I had; personally if I had, I would have paid (salaries) from my pocket but I can’t.”

Noting that his government as at May ending was indebted to the tune of N3bn, the governor said the state government had been borrowing from banks since January to augment whatever comes as Federal allocation.

Bello while stressing that should the trend continues till December, his state’s debt profile will have risen to N10bn, maintained that it was not healthy for the state government to continue borrowing to pay salaries.

“I think we should go back to the table. Of course, we can’t give what we don’t have.

“We are facing difficult times now, so let us sit down and see what we can do.

I really think it is unhealthy to keep on borrowing just to pay salaries. Apart from that, we are not just there to pay salaries, there are a lot of issues.

“I got a call this morning from one Girls’ Secondary School that their roof is off in six out of seven dormitories. Where will they sleep? Now if I take the whole revenue and pay salaries, how am I going to fix schools, hospitals?” the governor wondered.

The governor revealed that with N1.5bn from federation account, the state still had to borrow to pay 40,000 civil servants against over three million people that needed to be catered for.

He, however, called on people of the state to make sacrifices, saying nobody should be blamed for the sharp drop in oil price which has brought untold hardship on the state.

“I am willing to make sacrifices, all my appointees are willing to make sacrifices.

“We have shown example by cutting down our expenditure, we have cut down the expenses of the Government House from N150m a week to between N20m and N25 million a week.

“So we have cut down Government House expenditure by over 70 per cent and I mean these are all sacrifices,” he said.

PoliticsFeels Good To See The PDP Play Oppostion Party- NEWSHELM.COM by 247frolicboss(op): 8:33pm On May 29, 2016
For the first time in the history of Nigeria, it feels real good to have The People's Democratic Party play the oppostion!

APC might not be "doing great" as expected, but we all know that growth and change comes gradually.... If the PDP had kept their twitter buzzing during their years in power as they have for the past 12 months, reached out to the citizens at the local level, seen what they are condeming now etc, they would have had alot more legitmacy than they presently have or may not have even lost the presidential seat in the past elections.

But as it were, it feels good to see Nigerians taste the true meaning of democracy in this our quasi-federal state. The lesson the APC leaders should learn and understand is that Nigerians now know that their votes count and as the PDP was voted out after just a tenure of Goodluck Jonathan they can also be voted out of office just within their first tenure after about a 16 year wait.

If the affairs of the country does not change course for the better in a very short time and make the ordinary man on the Nigerian street feel the effects of their positve efforts, then the next two years will see the PDP gather more popularity again, but honestly, another oppostion party would do (on a more democratic note).

Fellow Nigerians, welcome to our new democratic setting!
