NNPP has strong holds in kano, their major target is to reduce the votes the PDP and APC - Asuquo. Asuquo james, an assignment editor of TVC news, has analysed that the major aim of the New Nigeria’s Peoples Party, NNPP is to reduce the votes of the PDP and APC in the forthcoming presidential elections. He said this while discussing the failed alliance talks between the labour party and the New Nigeria’s peoples party on Arise TV. We could recall that the proposed merger between both parties(Labour party and NNPP) didn’t go through because they couldn’t quite reach an agreement on who will be president and who will be VP. Speaking on the matter, Asuquo james said; “When I was watching Rabiu Kwankwaso speak on the failed alliance talks, I was laughing because he was talking as if he already has the votes on ground and the labour party has little or nothing to offer to the proposed alliance. I don’t think the NNPP are as popular as they think they are, their major strong hold is in Kano, Jigawa and some parts of Kaduna. Their major target is to reduce the votes of PDP and the APC in such Areas in my own opinion”, James said. The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria may have spread across to the local government areas as councillors in Jos North LG on Thursday passed a vote of no Confidence and impeached the Council Chairman, Shehu Bala, citing gross misconduct. The situation however, took dangerous dimension when some thugs stormed the venue while the vote of no confidence was been passed on the Chairman, and began harassing councillors and journalists who were covering the proceeding leading to the destruction of some equipment belonging to the reporters. Tension was later calmed following the intervention of some security operatives from the C Division of the Nigeria Police Force. Similarly, the legislative arm of Mangu LG has impeached the Council’s Deputy Chairman, Garba Hassan, and suspended the Chairman, Daput Minister for 90 Days over alleged gross misconduct and inability to discharge statutory obligations. Efforts to speak to both Chairmen and APC leadership in the state were unsuccessful as none of them was willing to speak on the matter. The ruling APC in Plateau State has been grappling with some issues since its party primaries and the dust raised is yet to settle. Many believe that the outcome of the exercise is the reason for the continues crisis. Read more: https://www.mcebiscoo.com/apc-crisis-councillors-impeach-lg-chairman-deputy-in-plateau-state/

2023: Buhari Reiterates Commitment to Credible, Peaceful Polls President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday, assured that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would deliver peaceful, transparent, free, fair and credible elections next year, without any form of interference from his administration. President Buhari gave the assurance in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal while speaking at a meeting with representatives of Nigerians living in the country, cautioning the Diaspora Nigerians to also resist the urge to use social media platforms to incite political crisis back home. The President, who is in Lisbon on a state visit, told those at the meeting that his administration looks forward to a smooth transition to the next government, assuring again that his government would not compromise taking every right step to assure the welfare of Nigerian citizens, home and abroad. According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President said with the conclusion of the primaries of the political parties, all eyes are now on the 2023 elections in Nigeria. ‘‘We also look forward to a smooth transition to the next government. As I have said before, our Administration will not compromise on doing the right things and the welfare of Nigerians, home and abroad,’’ the President said. Citing the last gubernatorial elections in Anambra and Ekiti State, the President noted that his administration has proven consistently its zero tolerance for interference in elections and insistence that Nigerians should be allowed to vote for the party and candidate of their choice. The President also used the occasion to caution against the use of social media to insult and incite from a safe and anonymous distance, urging the Diaspora to always promote Nigeria’s unity. ‘‘The world is a global village and technology has shrunk the world even more. Although you reside beyond Nigeria’s boundaries, you can engage easily with the country. In fact, we see the impact of that engagement clearly on social media. ‘‘This platform has empowered Nigerians in the diaspora and given you great influence. As we have seen, however, social media can be a force for good as well as a force for evil. ‘‘Many countries, including our own have had to take strong measures against some social media platforms to curb their excesses and prevent them from destabilizing our societies. ‘‘I, therefore, call upon you to use social media responsibly. We all want the best for our country and people, so let us strive to build, unite and prosper our nation and people and not to insult and incite from a safe and anonymous distance.’’ President Buhari expressed delight in the successful involvement of Diaspora in various fields such as agriculture, health care, education, ICT, and the food industry in Nigeria. He noted that many countries, including Nigeria, have shown that their diaspora can be a veritable engine for growth and development. Acknowledging the huge contribution the Diaspora has made to Nigeria’s economy, the President said: ‘‘In every field of human endeavour, be it the creative industries, sports, health, academia, Nigerians in the diaspora have thrived and leveraged on their skills to raise our country’s profile higher, economically, socially, technologically and culturally. ‘‘It is for these reasons that this Government established the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to facilitate and support your engagement with our country for a win-win outcome in our effort to keep Nigerians united at home and abroad. ‘‘You must continue to be our ambassadors-at-large in your comportment, actions and character. ‘‘You must excel and be the best in all your endeavours. While here, you must also not forget home as you are the example we want to project to the rest of the world.’’ The Nigerian leader assured the meeting coordinated by Chairman NIDCOM, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa that the Federal Government would continue to do everything possible to catalyse development in various fields of the economy. He also encouraged them to key into the programmes of NiDCOM, so as to contribute to initiatives such as the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund. Nigerian Ambassador to Portugal, Alex Enan Kefas, told President Buhari that records indicate that there are some 3,000 Nigerians living in the country, who are generally well behaved and living peacefully among themselves and the host authorities. The Ambassador informed the President of the recent arrest and detention of about thirteen Nigerians for alleged offences of money laundering and cybercrime. He explained that the Embassy conducted a consular visit to the prison which revealed that the arrests were ‘‘disproportionate and unjust’’ as many of them were innocent of the allegations. He said the Mission is trying its best to ensure the release of the innocent to enable them to reunite with their families. At the meeting with the Diaspora, a Nigerian professional footballer, Saviour Godwin, who plays for Portuguese side Casa Pia, presented a jersey to President Buhari. A Federal Capital Territory Family Court sitting at the Magistrates’ District, Wuse Zone II, Abuja, has restrained Precious Chikwendu from making comments that could lead to the identification of children whose custody issues have been submitted before it for determination. Chiwendu is the former wife of ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, the applicant in the matter. The trial judge, Njideka Duru, gave the order following a motion moved by the applicant’s counsel, Adeola Adedipe, to the effect. The judge, thereafter, granted the order of interim injunction restraining Chikwendu “from publishing the names, address, school, photographs or making any comment, presenting any speech or paper whether at a public gathering or during a programme described as ‘Green Shift’ (Apostolic Roundtables) slated for February 24.” She also granted the order restraining the ex-wife from commenting “on any social media platform of any information likely to lead to the identification of any of the children whose custody issues have been submitted to this court for determination pending the determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.” Adedipe, in the motion, marked: MN/05/2022 filed on February 14 on behalf of Fani-Kayode, prayed the court for four orders, which include “an order granting leave to the applicant, to amend the originating process filed in this case. He sought for an order of substituted service on the respondent of the amended originating motion, motion on notice for interlocutory injunction and hearing notice. The lawyer also sought for an order setting down for hearing in camera, the conduct of any or all proceedings in this case, in the best interest of the children involved; to preserve their respective rights to dignity and privacy. He also asked the court for an order of interim injunction stopping Chikwendu or associates from making presentations at any public gathering or social media platform of the broken relationship. The judge, who granted the orders for substituted service and to amend the originating process, also granted reliefs 1, 2, 3 and 4(b) of the application. She adjourned the matter until March 24 for a hearing. Chikwendu, an ex-beauty queen, was on February 14, docked before Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja, for the attempted murder of her former husband, Fani-Kayode. Though pleaded not guilty in the charge number: FHCABJ/CR/1/2022 filed by the FCT Commissioner of Police against her and three others, the ex-wife was alleged to have attempted to stab Fani-Kayode with a kitchen knife on November 24, 2018, at Asokoro, within the court jurisdiction. Prosecuting counsel, John Ijagbemi, had also told the newsmen that the complainant planned to amend the charge to include an attempt by Chikwendu to kill the four children she had for the ex-minister going by the facts available to the police. Justice Ekwo had fixed April 27 for the trial. Chikwendu, who was accused of infidelity by the former minister, was also said to have withdrawn various civil cases filed against Fani-Kayode. Although the duo had parted ways, the former minister said Chikwendu had always been given access to her children under closed supervision due to her alleged mental challenges which could result in hurting the children. The former minister had also alleged that Chikwendu stopped calling the children on the telephone for about seven months now contrary to her habit in the past. https://www.mcebiscoo.com/court-bars-fani-kayodes-ex-wife-from-comments-on-family-children/

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has said the Federal Government is not serious about the case against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. Afenifere said this on Wednesday in reaction to the amended seven counts that the Federal Government filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja against the IPOB leader. The National Secretary General of the association, Mr Sola Ebiseni, in a statement said it appeared that the government was confused on what to do. The statement read in part, “With the amended seven counts against Nnamdi Kanu as released by the media, it appears the Federal Government has come to its wit’s end in the case with the Biafran leader and self-determination agitations generally. “Without prejudice to the determination of the case by the court, it is clear that its end will certainly compound agitations on the national question, an ill-wind that will blow the Buhari administration and Nigeria no good. “It is time that the Attorney -General, Abubakar Malami, exercised superintendence over his office as the chief law officer and adviser of the Federal Government in a way that the interest of the nation may be served than indulge in petty politicking to massage the ego and pander to the personal idiosyncrasies of the President. “For instance, the alleged name-calling of Muhammadu Buhari, in April 2015, even before he became the President, would ordinarily be ignored as childish vulgar abuse unworthy of a high-profile criminal prosecution. “In all the other charges, Kanu is either being prosecuted for alleged statements made in foreign land as alleged leader of the proscribed IPOB inciting secession in Nigeria or threatened that anyone who flouted his sit-at-home order should prepare his or her will.” It added “A Government that admits that mere words of Kanu has become the law, either by legitimate obedience or fear, even while in detention, should think out of the box. “The appropriate mindset is to admit that Nigeria, as a wobbling contraption of entrenched nationalities, is negotiable and that negotiations do not necessarily lead to dismemberment. Let the dialogue begin.” https://www.mcebiscoo.com/fg-confused-over-kanu-self-determination-agitation-says-afenifere/ 1 Like

Govs Sule, Ganduje, AbdulRazaq seek relief materials for victims 38 killed as floods worsen in Mozambique after second cyclone Residents brave the floods in Mazive, southern Mozambique, on April 28, 2019. – Heavy rains from a powerful cyclone lashed northern Mozambique on April 27, 2019, sparking fears of flooding as aid workers arrived to assess the damage, just weeks after the country suffered one of the worst storms in its history. Cyclone Kenneth, a Category Three storm on the hurricane scale, made landfall in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province late on April 25 after swiping the Comoros islands. It made landfall a day later, killing one person and wrecking thousands of homes. Desmond Mgboh, Kano, Solomon Ayado, Lafia, Layi Olanrewaju,Ilorin Heavy downpour which lasted for days has left many displaced in Kano, Kwara and Nasarawa states forcing governors Abdulahi Ganduja, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Abdullahi Sule to seek for speedy supply of relief materials to victims from the Federal Government. In Nasarawa, Governor Abdullahi Sule, yesterday, raised the alarm that scores of people, including aged men, women and children, were displaced and rendered homeless following a flood that ravaged Nasarawa town in Nasarawa Local Governent Area. Sule, who appealed to the Federal Government to quickly intervene in tackling flood and other ecological problems facing the state, said it was the second time flood would wreck havoc in Nasarawa in less than two weeks. He said houses were submerged, just as animals were killed, with some persons reportedly missing. The governor stated this, yesterday, when he visited the affected LGA where he ordered the evacuation of the displaced persons. He directed the state emergency management agency to provide relief materials such as food items and mattresses without delay to the victims. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the governor “urged the people of the state to desist from building on waterways and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages.” In the same vein, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Relief Agency (SEMA), Dr. Saleh Jilli, in an interview with Daily Sun, lamented that this year’s flood was far more devastating than it had ever been in the state. He said an assessment showed that there was no local government council in the state that was spared by the flood, adding that in some cases, over 100 houses were destroyed by the flood in a single local government council. While imploring the National Emergency Relief Agency(NEMA), Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Presidential Task Force on Relief and Rehabilitation and National Refugees Commission to deliver and assist victims, Jilli underlined the fact that most of the victims had been displaced and were in urgent need of support He equally appealed to well -to –do individuals in the state to assist the displaced, saying government alone could not shoulder all the responsibilities of ameliorating the suffering of the flood victims. Similarly, on Saturday night, torrential rains that lasted several hours wreaked havoc in Ilorin, Kwara state capital. One life was said to have been lost during the heavy rains, it was gathered. Two persons whose corpses were yet to be recovered were equally swept away at Taiwo Isale and Oko-Erin bridges in the metropolis, a source at the state Fire Service said. The heavy downpour also destroyed several houses and property. The rains started around 7pm and stopped in the wee hours of Sunday. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commiserated with families whose houses were affected. The state government urged the Federal Government to urgently consider Kwara for special support even as it is setting up a special disaster response team to collate data of areas affected and determine how the state government can offer support based on available resources. https://www.mcebiscoo.com/flood-displaces-scores-kano-nasarawa-kwara/

Ifedayo Olarinde, aka, Daddy Freeze, has finally apologized to the founder and presiding Bishop of the Megachurch Faith Tabernacle, and Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners’ Chapel International, Bishop David Oyedepo. Freeze had in video he made last three years ago, criticized Oyedepo’s teaching, calling him a ‘bald-headed foul’. The video however, resurfaced this year and generated negative comments against Freeze. Reacting, the Founder and General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, David Ibiyeomie, condemned Freeze for questioning and criticizing Oyedepo. He accused him of insulting Oyedepo. Ibiyeomie called Freeze ‘a bastard’ son of a Somalian and a half caste, threatening to kill and tear him into pieces. The outspoken Freeze, Saturday decided to apologize, saying that he did not intend to insult the personality of Bishop Oyedepo. In his recent video shared by ex-media aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Reno Omokri, Freeze was seen apologizing to Oyedepo, saying ‘he did not in any way intend to dishonor, disrespect, or disregard the person of the Bishop’. Emhasizing on the video Reno said: As I promised in my video this morning, Ifedayo Olarinde, AKA Daddy Freeze, has now apologised to Bishop Oyedepo over his comments of 3 years ago. He recognised his error and sought forgiveness. “Scripture says if a brother sins and seeks forgiveness, forgive him 70 times 7 times! I must stress that that video was done 3 years ago. The man has changed. It took great courage for him to do what he has now done, and for the sake of peace and unity in the body of Christ, I urge all those who have had an issue with him to love like Christ. Reno equally called on Ibiyeomie to withdraw his threats against Freeze and apologise to his mother. His words: “I also call on David Ibiyeomie to withdraw the threats he made against Daddy Freeze, and apologise to his mother, Professor Elisabetha Smaranda Olarinde, because by using the words he used on Daddy Freeze, he also insulted his mother, who was completely innocent in this whole matter. “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Watch video here: https://www.mcebiscoo.com/just-daddy-freeze-finally-apologizes-bishop-oyedepo-video/ https://www.mcebiscoo.com/just-daddy-freeze-finally-apologizes-bishop-oyedepo-video/

Sub-Saharan African powerhouse, Nigeria, which prides itself to be the giant of Africa, is a nation that has been blessed with abundant talent in all known genres of human endeavour. As far as the round leather game goes, Nigeria, over the years, has boasted of some of the most exciting prodigious talents who had been tipped to replicate the contributions of all-time greats like Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Finidi George, amongst others. Perhaps the most apt index to demonstrate Nigeria’s track-record of producing precocious youngsters in the game is evidenced by it’s lofty record of lifting the FIFA U-17 World Cup a record 5 times in its history; and this is saying a whole lot considering the great dominance exhibited by European and South American competitors in the sport. It echoes, therefore, as a great paradox that these exciting youngsters have in most cases failed to live up to expectation in the course of their respective careers, floundering tremendously and plunging into anonymity after etching their names in gold. Daily Times takes a look at 5 Nigerian players whose careers took a nose-dive after enjoying exciting and promising breakouts. (1) Stanley Okoro: Stanley Okoro came into the limelight during the 2009 edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, hosted by Nigeria, where he made a number of eye-catching performances. He played his first match in the tournament in a 3–3 draw against Germany and scoring his side’s first goal through a penalty kick in the 54th minute. He subsequently scored against New Zealand and Spain and was a starter in the eventual 0–1 final loss to Switzerland. Following an impressive outing during the U-17 showcase, a move to Europe beckoned. Okoro joined Spanish side, Almeria, where he failed to impress. He was eventually loaned to Bulgarian A Professional Football Group, Cherno More Varna, where he continued to struggle to re-produce a semblance of the form which inspired his move to Europe. In 2015, Okoro was released by the Bulgarian side. He returned to Nigeria where he joined Abia Warriors in 2016, and Plateau United the following year. Four months later Okoro was released by Plateau United. His release by the NPFL side three years ago remains the last time Okoro’s career showed up on the radar. Still only 27, it remains an unlikely wager to predict that Okoro’s career could match the high and lofty expectations which greeted his emergence on to the big stage. (2) Isaac Promise: The career trajectory of Isaac Promise doubles as not merely a disappointment, but ultimately a regrettable tragedy. He was the captain of the football team representing Nigeria which won the silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. As a promising youngster, Promise went on trials with Nigerian second division side Grays International. Attracting attention from several big-name football clubs in Europe, he went on trials with Manchester United alongside John Obi Mikel but found the trials unsuccessful. After being linked with Dutch outfit Feyenoord Rotterdam he eventually signed for Turkcell Super Lig club Genclerberligi in a three-year deal in August 2005. He spent the next decade traversing across lower rung Turkish teams in a disappointingly underwhelming career. In August 2018, it was announced that Promise would join United Soccer League expansion side Austin Bold for the 2019 season. Promise died of a heart attack on 2 October 2019, at age 31. A tragic end to a career which was tipped to blaze the trail for a teeming crop of Nigerian footballing talents at the time. (3) Sunday Mba: Seven years ago Sunday Mba was the name on every Nigerian’s lip following his heroics in South Africa where he helped Nigeria win it’s third AFCON title, scoring the only goal against West African neighbours, Burkina Faso in a cagey encounter. He signed for Bastia in December 2013 after a drawn-out negotiation that lasted most of the year. Two years later Mba joined Turkish side, Yeni Malatsyaspor, but after failing to impress he was consequently released in 2017. In October 2019, after 2 years without a club, he said he wanted to return to football; unfortunately for the former Rangers man, no outfit has come knocking. Now 31 and soon to chime 32, there is a very real possibility that this Nigerian hero’s career has gone down in a whimper after showing flashes of brilliance and promise. (4) Joel Obi: Joel Chukwuma Obi currently represents Serie B side, Chievo Verona. This is a sharp contrast for a player who spent 10 years at the top flight of Italian football with Internazionale under the tutelage of a number of world-class managers, including Jose Mourinho. Initially pegged to be a slight variation to his name-sake, John Obi Mikel, Joel later failed to engage a higher gear to his game, particularly during his peak years. A failure that saw him dismissed by Inter in 2015. He moved to Torino in 2015 and has been trading clubs a tad less than the previous one since parting ways with the Nerazzurri. (5) Macaulay Chrisantus: Not many Nigerians who watched the 2007 edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup may believe that Macaulay Chrisantus currently plies his trade with an unknown outfit in Saudi Arabia. A centre-forward blessed with natural clinicality in his youth, Chrisantus emerged as the top goal scorer in the U-17 tournament held in Korea, helping Nigeria to win the tournament alongside a host of impressive youngsters who have disappeared from limelight ever since. Born in Abuja, Chrisantus joined Hamburg in 2007 from Abuja FC, after attracting offers from several major European clubs, probably due to his contribution to Nigeria’s World Junior Cup win that year as the highest goal scorer and second-best player of the tournament. In summer 2009, he was loaned to Karlsruher SC for the 2009–10 season, but on 15 April 2010, KSC extended the loan deal for another year. On 21 July 2014, Chrisantus signed a three-year contract with Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor after his two successful years at Las Palmas in Spain. He would spend the succeeding years shuffling between lightweight teams in Greece and the Spanish segunda division, before ultimately signing for Hetten FC in 2020. Macaulay’s career plunge remains a model story in the archives of Nigerian footballers who failed to live up to the bidding, having dazzled at a global stage where everything he touched literally turned into goals. https://www.mcebiscoo.com/5-nigerian-footballers-faded-away-enjoying-promising-breakouts/

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally approved the official implementation of cost-reflective tariffs for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. The new tariff, which will now formally commence on September 1, 2020, was one of the preconditions given by the World Bank for a $1.5bn loan for Nigeria. Other preconditions include the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rate, which the Central Bank of Nigeria is implementing. In January, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission had announced that there would be an upward review of electricity tariffs across the country from April 1. However, this was suspended after reports indicated that electricity distribution companies had pushed for a postponement until key areas of disagreement were sorted. The National Assembly in June persuaded the DisCos to defer the plan till the first quarter of 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic on energy consumers. It was gathered that Buhari set up a committee earlier this month to look at the issues in the Nigerian electricity supply industry and come up with a report on the tariff structure among other recommendations. The committee was given two weeks to conclude its job due to the urgency involved and was chaired by a former Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr Fola Adeola. Aside from the former top banker, other members of the committee included Prof Charles Soludo and Dr Doyin Salami among others. According to the new tariff via a NERC order dated December 31, 2019, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company residential customers R3 that were paying N27.20 per unit will now pay N47.09 and N63.42 by next year. For the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company customers, the R3 category paying N26.50 per unit will now pay N36.49 per unit and later N58. https://www.mcebiscoo.com/just-nigerians-pay-electricity/
