Politics / Imo APC Crisis: Senator Uzodinma Alleges Assassination Plot Against Him, Fingers by 2Ebisco: 11:11pm On Sep 30, 2018
Senator Hope Uzodinma representing Imo West Senatorial District, has alleged that there were plans to assassinate him following his insistence in contesting the governorship primary elections.

He said the fresh plot was as a result of failed attempt to kidnap him by kidnappers who disguised as security agents on Saturday, warning that the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha should be held liable if anything happens to him.

In a statement he signed and made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, he added that Okorocha was working towards the withdrawal of his security details in order to make him vulnerable to attacks.

The statement reads, “I have it on good authority that Governor Rochas Okorocha having failed in his plan to kidnap me is now in a fresh plot to assassinate me but to burn down my houses.

“I have been told reliably from his camp that he has embarked in getting security agencies to withdraw security from me,making me vulnerable.

“The people he sent to kidnap me gave him a reason that they were not able to succeed because I have a very tight security.

“He is now making all efforts both at the national level and state to remove all the security details attached to me so that he can make real his plans.”

Uzodinma, who claimed to have obtained evidence of assassination plot within the government circle, urged the Inspector General of Police not to belabour himself looking for, “who killed him” but should hold Rochas Okorocha responsible.

“I am using this medium to inform the Inspector General of Police, the federal government and all security agencies. Should anything happen to me during this primaries, they should hold Gov. Okorocha responsible.

“I have it on good authority and I can show you evidence that what I am saying is very serious.

“The question is, why will a sitting governor want to eliminate his citizen, whom he ought to protect.

“He has imports over 2000 violent and armed thugs into Imo State but that will not deter us.

“We will follow this primaries squarely. Our people must participate, we must vote, we must nominate the person we want to rule this state.

“I have reported all these happenings to the national leadership of the party for record purposes,” he said.

The lawmaker insisted on following the party guidelines in the ongoing governorship primaries, saying he will not be intimidated.

“Only this morning, he decided to deploy people that are favourable to him, the people to midwife the primaries without waiting for the national leadership of the party to send those who are going to conduct the primaries.

“He has already started the exercise. Our hope is that when the representatives from the national body come, that they will do the right thing, what is consistent with the guideline, approved by the party,” Uzodinma said.

Politics / Osun Rerun: Nigerians React As INEC Declares Oyetola Winner by 2Ebisco: 8:15am On Sep 28, 2018
Nigerians have reacted to the outcome of the Osun State governorship election, with the All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate Gboyega Oyetola beating Adeleke Ademola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

DAILY POST had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the gubernatorial election in Osun State.

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Adeola Afuwape said Oyetola garnered 255,505 votes to defeat his main rival, Senator Ademola Adeleke who polled 255,023 votes.

Reacting to PDP’s defeat, some Nigerians while accusing the APC of rigging the election, expressed disappointment with the entire exercise.

However, others claimed the election was free and fair.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST:

@OmosuleId, ‘Have we ever had an election in Nigeria? Now the film is glaring and everyone is on their heels not to see the end of it. Not only #OsunRerun Is the movie ,I am just ashamed when youth participate in these when we should be asking them to leave the seat for us ..I fear for 2019‏

@Gbemi1, “Posterity won’t forget the grand thievery that just occurred in the #OsunRerun elections. It’s a painful defeat but justice must and will prevail. #Adeleke’s mandate must be restored!”

@enyola, “At least, we now know that this govt is NOT interested in anything credible, free or fair. The #OsunRerun is a clear indicator of what we should expect in 2019. They knew they couldn’t do it directly with @inecNigeria, so they used the security agencies to rig it out. What a shame!”

@itzleothagreat, “Thursday, 27th of September 2018 Democracy was buried by an electoral body in Nigeria, under the authority of a political party in conjunction with some security forces and hoodlums. Slowly but surely, true democracy will germinate & flourish.”

@coded336, “INEC is a disgrace. No need to cast any vote in 2019. The security forces and electoral commission are allies of the ruling party and they’ve robbed the people of their mandate.”

@jamesogunjibi, “Today in history: Democracy was assassinated in Nigeria. Hitmen: Adams Oshiomole, Muhammadu Buhari, Rauf Aregbesola, Bola Tinubu, Men of the Nigeria Police Force: Survivors: Osun state indigenes who are about to be demoted from half salary status to no salary status.”

@goodyemi, “The people that lost out in this #OsunReRun are the Osun indigene they will suffer like mad. Suffer suffer for world.”

@Mhiz_midee,”What happened today has showed us exactly what will happen in 2019..Baba will just enter..FIAM..sometimes they make it look like we disturb ourselves to go vote. This is a pure abuse of power. Democracy Inconclusive.”

@Kany_10, “This INEC returning officer is a fraud. All other Party agents of even parties that I don’t know their national headquarters were against the PDP. This is what more money can do. Meanwhile, Osun civil servants are owed over 15 months salaries. More sufferings for Osun people.”

Politics / Osun Election: Adeleke Cries Out, Reveals What Is Happening In State Right Now by 2Ebisco: 2:13pm On Sep 27, 2018
The Governorship candidate under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has described the ongoing rerun election in seven units in the state as a ‘coup.‘

Adeleke, who spoke with Punch on Thursday said that supporters of the PDP were being denied access to ballot papers in the governorship rerun election.

“What is happening in Osun State now is not an election. What we have is a coup. That is what we are witnessing now.

“Our supporters are being harassed and are not allowed to vote at all. Let the whole world know that this is not democracy, ” he said.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Ademola Adeleke of the PDP led the race in last Saturday’s election with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than Oyetola.

The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where votes were cancelled.

Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

Politics / Aisha Buhari, Sani Baban-Inna N2.5 Billion Scandal: Probe Your Wife - PDP To PMB by 2Ebisco: 10:42am On Sep 27, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe his wife, Aisha, over the N2.5 billion scandal linked to her ADC.

Sani Baba-Inna, Aisha’s aide, was accused of using the first lady’s name to collect money from unsuspecting associates and government officials as earlier reported by Naija News.

The PDP, through its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan yesterday said the scandal has vindicated the stand of the opposition party that Buhari “presides over a government of corruption”.

Ologbondiyan said the ADC should be tried in an open court and be allowed to defend himself.

“PDP challenges President Muhammadu Buhari to show his zero tolerance for corruption by allowing for an open inquest into the N2.5 billion scandal, in which the first lady, Aisha Buhari, has already been entangled; instead of the spirited effort by the presidency to suppress a matter that is already in public domain,” the statement read.

“It is instructive to note that the first lady has already admitted that her detained security aide defrauded ‘unsuspecting associates and officials’, a position which inadvertently exposes the attempt by the Police to conceal the matter.

“The PDP and indeed Nigerians have always pointed to the very expensive lifestyle and personal effects, including posh jewelries, daily paraded by close relatives of Mr. President, thus belying gimmicks and stunts of the first family being saintly and pro-poor.

“Also, there have been allegations of acquisitions of sprawling and choice property in Nigeria and other countries by persons close to the president.

“Since the first lady, in her statement, confessed that her security aide defrauded ‘unsuspecting associates and officials’, the PDP demands that the aide be promptly docked in an open court and given the opportunity to defend himself and expose his accomplices in the alleged fraud.

“It is common knowledge that aides of former presidents and those of former first ladies are currently facing trial in open court over similar allegations and this should not be an exception. The PDP, however, hopes that the detained aide will not be ‘escorted’ out of the country to prevent him from opening up, as was the case of disgraced former minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun.

“Moreover, the PDP invites Nigerians to note that the presidency has suddenly gone dumb on a N2.5 billion fraud under its roof. Does this not amount to admittance of complicity by the Buhari presidency, which is becoming notorious as a den of certificate forgers and persons of questionable character.

“The PDP therefore holds that since issues have been joined and high profile personalities in the presidency 0 it hopes this matter will not be swept under the carpet.”

Politics / Osun Election: Why Adeleke Is Leading Oyetola – APC Chieftain, Chidike Ukauwa by 2Ebisco: 9:59am On Sep 26, 2018
A former governorship aspirant in Abia State and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ambassador Chidike Ukauwa, has reveled why Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party was leading Gboyega Oyetola of the APC in the Saturday’s governorship poll in Osun State before the election was declared inconclusive.

He said the party’s failure to field popular candidate was the reason Adeleke of the PDP took the lead.

He, therefore, warned the state leadership of the APC and delegates against choosing unpopular candidates that may rob of the party of victory in 2019 elections.

Ukauwa, who spoke with reporters Tuesday evening, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital against the backdrop of the outcome of the Osun inconclusive governorship election, said the election should be a big lesson to the APC.

He opined that only credible and competent candidates can ensure the success of the party in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Ukauwa pointed out that with the results so far displayed by INEC in the last Saturday’s election showed that the people have rejected APC.

He stressed that the masses were revolting against APC in Osun State over alleged failure of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to live up to the expectations of the people.

He said, “Again, as we approach our primaries, the party should eschew from imposition of unpopular candidates. Because why the PDP is leading in Osun election is because of our candidate there is not popular.”

“They should allow competent people to emerge in the primaries. Because for the APC to win Abia; we must bring out a credible and acceptable candidate that can sack Ikpeazu and PDP from the office in 2019.”

Politics / Osun Election: US Govt Speaks On Governorship Poll by 2Ebisco: 9:10pm On Sep 23, 2018
The United States Government has called for a peaceful conclusion of the Osun State governorship election.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, David Young, appealed to candidates of political parties and their supporters to be peaceful and respect the final results of the Osun State governorship elections that will be announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the coming days.

He said: “We request and urge all supporters to be peaceful as this process moves forward. This is part of democracy.

“We at the United States have had very close elections too. I urge people to be peaceful and respect the result that comes out in the time ahead.”

The US envoy also commended INEC for the conduct of the election.

He urged all political parties and agents to allow the electoral body to do its job.

He added, “The most important thing is that we let INEC do its work. They are moving forward and in a positive way. I think this is going to be a very close election. It is going to come down to a very small margin.

“I think one of the things we need to do is let the process go forward. Let the democratic process go forward with parties and their candidates raising any concerns they have through the legal process and for the results to be peaceful.”

Politics / Why Buhari Is Finding Difficult To Handle Nigeria – Bafarawa by 2Ebisco: 8:16am On Sep 23, 2018
Attahiru Bafarawa, former Sokoto State Governor and People Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s military background had made it difficult for him to handle issues on democratic governance.

Bafarawa, who spoke on Saturday in Jos, at a meeting with PDP supporters in Plateau, stated that only a true democrat could deliver sound leadership and solve Nigeria’s development problems.

“I am a true democrat capable of taking Nigeria out of its numerous problems. We need true democrats to pull us out of the woods. What we have now is not true democracy,” he said.

Bafarawa said that his main strength was his integrity, claiming he had never been involved in corrupt tendencies in the course of his various leadership roles.

The aspirant, however, said that he would support whoever emerged as the PDP presidential candidate.

On his candidacy, he said: “I am a man of integrity and have never been corrupt. When I was governor of Sokoto State, I left N13 billion in the state’s coffers after serving for eight years.

“I did not stay in the government house and was not even interested in salary. I am not a poor man. I am contented and I want everybody to be contented too.

“The election is not about Bafarawa. It is about Nigeria. If I lose the primaries, I will support the candidate because Nigeria needs the right person to take charge of its affairs”.

Politics / What Wike, Abe, Former Commissioners Are Planning To Do To Me – Amaechi by 2Ebisco: 7:17am On Sep 22, 2018
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi is accusing Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and Senator representing Rivers South-East, Senator Magnus Abe of conspiring to launch a smear campaign against him.

Amaechi who is also the Director-General, President Buhari Campaign Organisation has alleged that the duo of Wike and Abe are conniving to disparage and defame him.

The immediate past governor of Rivers State in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja claimed that the Governor and the Senator were plotting to use his former cabinet members to tell fake, concocted and distorted stories to the media that are meant to denigrate him, impugn his unblemished integrity and paint a very terrible image of him to members of the public.

The DG revealed that the plot is already far-gone and some persons are been coached on what to say and how to say it.

Amaechi noted that he would not be distracted by any cheap, fake and smear campaign of calumny against him, just as he urged the people to, “Pay no heed to the desperate attention-seeking duo of Wike and Abe and all of their fabricated lies, but focus on the goal of ensuring that Rivers State gets a better leader that would turn around the fortune of the State and its people for good, come 2019.”

He insisted that no amount of sabotage and fake stories will deter him and all genuine APC members, supporters and Rivers people from changing and voting out the ‘inept government in Rivers State next year.’

According to him, “I am aware that two former commissioners who served in the State Executive Council when I was governor have been procured by Wike and Abe, jointly and collaboratively, to carry out this hatchet job of ‘hack Amaechi down’ campaign. The plan is to throw as much dirt at me as possible and rubbish my image.

“While one is been coached in Rivers State Government House of what to say to the Press and how to say it, to do maximum damage; the other one is busy distorting, concocting and fabricating fake screenshots, text messages, documents and all sorts in Senator Abe’s Freedom House campaign office in Port Harcourt; that they intend to release to the media to tarnish my image.

“I want to alert the media and members of the public of the smear plot by these two political collaborators (Wike and Abe), to unjustly discredit and smear me for their selfish political reasons.”

Politics / 2019: ‘buhari A Monster, Let’s Remove Him Now’ – Fayose Tells Tambuwal by 2Ebisco: 9:01pm On Sep 21, 2018
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has identified the youthful age of his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as a great asset to Nigeria in the 2019 presidential race

Fayose made the remark in Ado-Ekiti on Friday when Governor Tambuwal visited to solicit support from the state’s delegates.

He stated that only a leader with age on his side could have the stamina, mental capacity needed to confront and provide workable solutions to the challenges facing the nation.

He added that Tambuwal’s experience in the legislature, where he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives for four years and as executive governor for four year, eminently qualifies him for the office of president.

Fayose said: “A man can never give what he doesn’t have.

“Buhari’s old age and tyrannical character cannot allow him to perform. An old man cannot perform.

“Anybody packaging Buhari to come back is packaging him for their personal interests.”

“Do not be afraid but work hard so that we can remove this monster. The fall of a tyrant always comes when he least expects it.”

Addressing all the presidential aspirants in the PDP, Fayose added: “You must take the outcome of the party’s primaries in good faith.

“If God favours you, try to be magnanimous and if you lose, join hands with the winner to fight this common enemy.”

Politics / Executive Order 6: Dokpesi, Senator Bala Mohammed, Others Drag Buhari To Court by 2Ebisco: 1:46pm On Sep 21, 2018
The Chairman, Daar Communications, Dr Raymond Dokpesi; Senator Bala Mohammed and Ambassador Bello Mohammed have dragged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation, before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The men are challenging the constitutionality of Executive Order No 6 of 2018.

Dokpesi and others in the suit, are demanding the court to declare that the Presidential Order 6 issued by the President unlawful.

They want the law to be declared null and void and of no effect whatsoever, having regard to the fact that the said order constitutes an attempt by the president to exercise to the detriment of the plaintiffs’ judicial and legislative powers not vested in him by the constitution.

They are also praying the court for an order nullifying the Order no 6 of 2018 on the ground that it constitutes a negation of the presumption of innocence of the plaintiffs until proven guilty by due process of law, as guaranteed by the constitution.

Dokpesi and co are also seeking an order nullifying the Presidential Executive Order on the ground that it scandalizes the plaintiffs by stigmatizing them as corrupt and labelling their assets as proceeds of corruption liable to forfeiture.

They are further demanding for an order of the court nullifying the Presidential Executive Order no 6 of 2018, on the ground that it constitutes a violation of the rule against self-help in that the president purports to take action detrimental to the plaintiffs in respect of assets subject to pending litigation between the Government and the plaintiffs.

Sports / POAK Vs Chelsea: Why Hazard, Luiz, Kovacic Will Not Play – Sarri by 2Ebisco: 3:40am On Sep 20, 2018
Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has explained why Eden Hazard, David Luiz and Mateo Kovacic, were left out of Chelsea’s first Europa League tie against Greek side PAOK.

The former Napoli boss has dropped the first-team trio for the away match, despite all showing good form in the Premier League.

Hazard scored a hat-trick against Cardiff last weekend, but Sarri said the playmaker requires extra rest after a busy summer at the World Cup with Belgium

Croatia midfielder and World Cup runner-up Kovacic picked up a knock in the game on Saturday and also requires extra rest.

Sarri is also keen on treating Luiz with caution after he lacked first-team football last season.

“David Luiz is in Cobham because he is playing without six months so I thought it was better for him to have rest,” he told press conference ahead of the clash.

“Kovacic it is better to have rest with the little injury.

“Hazard after the national team and the match with Cardiff he was a little bit tired.

“I thought it was better to have training and rest.”

“I don’t know about Loftus,” he added.

“For me he is a very good player. I don’t know if there is a spot tomorrow.

“Now, it is very difficult because in the first part of the season it is very important to play with a very solid team.

“I might change four or five players, it is impossible to change every player in the match.

“For Odoi in his position in the last match played Pedro and Hazard. I have also played [Victor] Moses and Willian. [Ethan] Ampadu, Odoi and Loftus are the future, I don’t know if the right time tomorrow is for Odoi.”

Politics / I’ll Teach You How To Defeat Tinubu In Lagos – Saraki Tells Lagos PDP by 2Ebisco: 7:31pm On Sep 18, 2018
Senate President Bukola Saraki has assured party members in Lagos State that he will do everything within his reach to ensure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) produces the next governor of the state.

According to Saraki who is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the PDP, he has the medicine of the man who is regarded as the godfather terrorizing Lagos.

He said: “What you have been fighting for many years, you will have it during the coming election because you now have somebody that has intention and charisma to deal with those disturbing you.

“I have a medicine of the man who regards himself as godfather terrorizing Lagos State. We have their formula, come next year, PDP will take over Lagos.”

Saraki went on to warn the party members to beware of presidential aspirants who are promising to restructure Nigeria. According to him, that is one thing a president cannot do on his own because he requires the legislature.

He said: “Many aspirants will tell you that they will restructure Nigeria, but don’t let them deceive you because restructuring is not something only a president can do because certain laws also need to change.

“So you need a president that has political sagacity to carry people along. But there are very few aspirants today that possess such charisma. Once I assume office, I will devolve more powers to the state.’’

Politics / ‘vote-buying, Threat To Nigeria’s Democracy’ by 2Ebisco: 10:10pm On Sep 13, 2018
Prof. Ra’uf Ayo-Dunmoye of Political Science Department, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria on Thursday identified “vote-buying” by political parties as a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

He made the observation in a paper he presented during a public lecture organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zaria unit in collaboration with ABU Mass Communication Department held in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the lecture is: “The Role of Media and Political Parties toward ensuring credible, free and fear elections.”

Ra’uf-Dunmoye, who spoke on the role of political parties towards credible elections, said if what happened recently in Ikiti election was something to go by, such action would negatively affect the credibility of the nation’s democracy.

The Don said democracy allows people to select whoever they want to lead or represent them through the process of election without external influence, especially money or threat.

He observed that democracy was referred to as a universally recognised ideal based on values common to people everywhere, regardless of cultural, social, political and economic differences.

“Democracy is meant to protect and promote with dignity and fundamental rights of individual and instill social justice and social development.”

Ra’uf-Dunmoye stressed the need for political parties to step up efforts towards ensuring internal democracy through transparent primary elections to guarantee success of the forthcoming general elections.

He, however, lamented a situation where governors hijacked the leadership of parties and appoint their loyalists as candidates into different elective positions irrespective of whether they qualify or not.

In his paper entitled: “The Role of Media toward ensuring Credible, Free and Fair Elections”, Dr Yakubu Suleiman of ABU Mass Communication Department, observed that media had a greater role of enlightening and sensitising the public on the 2019 elections.

He frowned at a situation where journalists ask for money before publishing stories, lamenting that some editors collect inducements in the form contracts to get stories published.

Suleiman charged the media to be unbiased, corrupt-free and remain patriotic before, during and after the general elections for the good of all.

The ABU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, who was represented by Malam Sama’ila Shehu, Director, Public Affairs, said the lecture was timely in view of the forthcoming general elections.

While appreciating the efforts of the NUJ and Mass Communication Department for organising the programme, the VC urged them to sustain the collaboration for the benefit of both parties.

Ealier, the NUJ Chairman, Kaduna State Council, Alhaji Adamu Yusuf had said that there was perception that months preceding elections in Nigeria usually come with all kinds of disturbing reports.

He identified such disturbing reports to include; hate speeches, name calling, harassmen, killings, thuggery and intimidation among others.

“So, our gathering here today will no doubt find possible ways of preventing them. For an individual, group or nation to grow and develop, the enabling environment must be created.

“Such environment must be made free for all to serve, hence the need for these two major stakeholders in the country’s electoral process to come together.

“As one of the critical stakeholder in promoting democracy, be rest assured that the Nigerian Union of Journalists will promote free, fair and peaceful conduct of 2019 general elections,” he assured.

NAN reports that the occasion drew participants from across political parties, INEC representatives, lawyers, security agencies, traditional rulers and students among others. (NAN)

Politics / ADC Will Take Over Oyo, Nigeria In 2019 – Defected APC Lawmaker by 2Ebisco: 11:28pm On Sep 12, 2018
Rep. Abiodun Olasupo (ADC-Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa) on Wednesday said that African Democratic Congress (ADC) would rule Oyo State and Nigeria from 2019.

NAN reports that Olasupo spoke during the presentation of a 33kv transformer to Oju-Baba community in Iseyin area of Oyo State.

Olasupo, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Compliance, recently defected from All Progressives Congress (APC).

He urged the people to keep their faith in ADC, saying the much touted wranglings within the state chapter of the party had been resolved.

“You see, when you asked me about wranglings in the ADC, you could see me smiling.

“If you had actually asked this question like three or four days ago, I might not have smiled.

“Probably, I might tell some stories but without the smile, but I am telling you this story with a smile because the crisis has been resolved.

“Today, we are one, we have resolved to move forward and ensure that the hope of the people in ADC to rescue them from the problems is not disappointed.

“We are in ADC, nobody is going anywhere, and by the grace of God, come 2019, ADC will rule Oyo State and Nigeria,” he said.

Politics / Justice Idris Threatens To Jail Orji Kalu by 2Ebisco: 10:26am On Sep 11, 2018
Justice Mohammed Idris on Monday vowed to apply the full weight of the law on former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, for absenting himself from the Federal High Court in Lagos for the continuation of his N7.65bn alleged fraud case.

Justice Idris recalled that on July 31, the former governor begged for a six-week adjournment on the claim that he had a surgery appointment in Germany.

“The letter for the adjournment of the 31st of July, 2018 was written on the 27th day of July, 2018 and forwarded to this court on the 31st day of July, 2018.

“From the email correspondence of 31st July, 2018 sent at 11.29am GMT by one Ifunanya, it appears that the said German surgeon was not even available for an appointment with the 1st defendant, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, when the letter of 27th July, 2018 was written and when the application for an adjournment was made on the 31st day of July 2018.

“It appears from the said email that as at the 31st day of July, an appointment had not yet been made.

“I agree with the learned counsel for the prosecution that there is indeed no letter from the said German surgeon that the 1st defendant, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, would require any surgery whatsoever. The entire scenario appears to be ridiculous.

“The conduct of the 1st defendant, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, in the matter since the ruling of this court on the 31st day of July, 2018, wherein the court dismissed his no-case submission is highly irresponsible.

“A litigant who deliberately or carelessly disregards an order of court cannot expect the discretion of the court to be exercised in his favour. Justice, after all, is said and done, is for all the parties.

“No one, no matter how highly placed, can be above the law. Let it be said loud and clear that this court will apply the law with the full force it requires,” Justice Idris said in his ruling on Monday.

”Kalu’s lawyer, Mr Gordy Uche (SAN), had lamented that “we seem to have a little problem with the 1st defendant.”

Uche, who appealed for adjournment, said: “The medical appointment was slated for the 2nd of August, but he couldn’t get a flight to Germany. Unfortunately, the surgeon went on summer vacation, however, the appointment is slated for today (Monday).”

Reacting, the prosecuting counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), contended that the former governor had no justification to be absent from the court.

“He (Kalu) cannot, on his own, extend the medical permission given to him by this court; a person going about everywhere obtaining chieftaincy title, doing politics in the country; this (surgical) appointment is contrary to the order of this court.

“Having jumped bail, I apply that his bail be revoked,” Jacobs said.

The judge, however, adjourned the case till September 20 and 21, 2018, stressing that Kalu must make himself available.

It has in the recent times, recorded deaths among our corps members,I want to use this medium to appeal to our corps members to stop frequent traveling on the roads via commercial vehicles. Celebrities / I’m A Proud Feminist Who Embraces Her Femininity – Genevieve Nnaji by 2Ebisco: 5:48pm On Sep 09, 2018
Prominent Nollywood actress and millionaire real estate investor, Genevieve Nnaji, has revealed that she is a proud feminist who embraces her femininity.

She made this statement during a recent interview with”Women and Hollywood”, where the star Nigerian actress aligned herself with the feminist movement.

When asked to name her favorite woman-directed film and why. Genevieve Nnaji said;

“Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman.” It was powerful and strong, and at the same time, feminine and sexy.I’m a proud feminist who embraces her femininity. I feel sometimes women are made to feel self-conscious and ashamed of their womanhood. Perhaps like “Wonder Woman,” we may wake up one day to discover that it is our superpower, and then we would be unstoppable.”

On the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, the Nollywood diva said;

“How quickly the oppressed have risen to the top, and yet the train has not stopped. If anything, they continue to create amazing content.”

History has shown that in almost every situation where a group of people or a demographic is being oppressed, it’s usually because the oppressors are threatened by the potential of the oppressed to be great. I’m happy women all over the world are discovering their superpower and turning “why me?” into “not me.

Romance / 28-year-old Man Rapes 40-year-old Woman To Death In Ogun by 2Ebisco: 8:22am On Sep 09, 2018

A state counsel, Mr Bale Nimnan, told court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 14 at 11.00 a.m. at his residence in Sango-Ota. Nimnan said the accused had several rounds of sex with the 40-year-old woman, Monsura Idowu, which resulted in her death.

Politics / New Minimum Wage: TUC Reveals Plan To Enforce Compliance by 2Ebisco: 7:51am On Sep 08, 2018
The President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Boboi Kaigama, has lambasted the federal and state government for failing to implement the new minimum wage.

He disclosed that members of organised labour across Nigeria were already proposing the abrogation of security votes.

The reviewed salary was expected to take effect in September.

Speaking after he picked his nomination and expression of interest forms for Taraba governorship election at the National Secretariat of the APC, in Abuja, on Friday, Kaigama said it was unfortunate that government was still giving excuses.

Kaigama said: “The issue of minimum wage is legitimate to the Nigerian worker. It is expected that five years down the line, employers are supposed to sit down with their employees represented by trade unions to review their wages.

“We are two years behind schedule on this. The dollar rate when the last minimum wage came into being was N150. It has now more than doubled that figure.

“Governors are complaining about the proposed minimum wage, but the fact is that you cannot sit down in your own house and be waiting for allocation from the federation account and think you can pay minimum wage. You have to be creative and develop your own resources.

“There is no state as far as the working class is concerned that will say they cannot pay the proposed minimum wage. The money is there but corruption and incompetence would not allow them to pay.”

Politics / APC Speaks On ‘planned Defection’ Of Governors, Lawmakers To PDP by 2Ebisco: 6:04pm On Sep 06, 2018
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that six Governors and twenty-seven National Assembly on its platform have concluded discussions to join the latter.

APC said it was now clear that the PDP has assumed the role of comic relief ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Yekini Nabena, National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Thursday, declared that Nigerians have rejected the PDP and all that it represents such as corruption, impunity, waste and greed.

“Hence, in the face of imminent 2019 defeat, the PDP has chosen to hide behind lies and false realities to save face”, he wrote.

“While the PDP hallucinates on APC members’ defection to the PDP, the APC is consolidating to go into the 2019 General Elections as a smarter, more united and stronger political fighting force.

“While the PDP wallows it its cooked up tales on the state of the nation, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration-led APC administration is focused on bettering the lives of Nigerians, addressing infrastructure needs, revamping the economy, restoring our rank in the comity of progressive nations, confronting the challenges we face as a nation and generally repositioning the country in line with the Change Agenda promised Nigerians.”

Politics / Why Saraki Cannot Be Nigeria’s President – APC by 2Ebisco: 7:28pm On Sep 05, 2018
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is unfit to lead Nigeria.

Yekini Nabena, APC National Publicity Secretary, said this in a statement on Wednesday.

He noted that while every Nigerian has the right to run for any office, there are many issues that border on such person’s integrity, antecedents, competence and capability to preside over the affairs of the country.

Nabena stated that APC was aware that Saraki’s presidential declaration was a tactic to deflect attention from the deluge of issues he deals with, particularly ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

He said pressure to reconvene the National Assembly, a fast-shifting political order in Kwara State, among others were a few examples.

Nabena wrote: “By virtue of Saraki’s antecedents, he is an abysmal failure and is totally incompetent to offer himself as a candidate for leadership of Nigeria. Saraki was a two-term Governor of Kwara State and Senate President in the last three years. What were his performance records in these two assignments?

“As Kwara State Governor, was his Shonga Agricultural Programme, not a white elephant project in which hundreds of millions of State funds was sunk into? The infrastructure, particularly roads network in Kwara State in which the present administration remains under his tight grip and political machinations long after leaving office, remains deplorable while state resources are mismanaged through corrupt enrichment.

“A Presidential aspirant who promises to create jobs and turn around the economy at the national level must have done so in a state he served as Governor for eight years. We challenge Saraki to give the nation his scorecard as a Kwara State.

“As Senate President, how Saraki used the position to superintend over budget padding, sabotage of the executive by frustrating confirmation of presidential nominees, stalling legislative approvals for election budgets and his recent shadow boxing on the Electoral Act, among other treacherous actions against the APC (which he was then a member) in pursuit of his selfish political interests has been well reported.

“Was Saraki’s Senate Presidency not a journey of shame and disgrace? – moving from one Court or Tribunal to another over charges of forgery of Senate Rules, false declaration of assets, and being linked with armed robbers who brutally killed and maimed innocent residents in Offa recently.

“Saraki says he is heeding the call of Nigerian youths to contest the Presidency. We are not aware of any meeting of Nigerian youths held during which they decided that. For the record, the #NotTooYoungToRun group berated Saraki for selfishly using their forum to make his presidential declaration. We are not surprised by Saraki’s selfish actions as it has come to define his politics and persona.

“Saraki says he will offer leadership driven by empathy. Coming from an incredibly selfish and self-opinionated politician this is indeed an irony. Saraki’s Presidential aspiration is a huge joke and should not be taken seriously.

“He has repeatedly displayed his character as extremely selfish, deceitful, untrustworthy and unreliable. His only goal is to get to the top, stay at the top, ruin or wreck whatever he finds there or in the event of failure, collapse the system or process.

“Nigerians have had enough of Dr. Bukola Saraki’s retrogressive and disruptive style of politics and deserve no more.”

Politics / Kwankwaso Reveals How PDP Is Better Than APC by 2Ebisco: 2:27pm On Sep 05, 2018
Former Kano Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has said that the opportunity given to the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in 2015 was not being handled properly.

Speaking during a visit to the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu on Tuesday, Kwankwaso said Nigeria faces poverty, insecurity and other challenges because of the Federal Government’s inability to check leakages.

Senator Kwankwaso, a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election, said: “We were thinking that Peoples Democratic Party is bad but now, we realise it is better than the All Progressive Congress.”

He added, “This is because the opportunity given to them to govern is not being handled well, we worked assiduously in 2014-2015 for APC but now, we are seeing the difference.

“The leaders lack the capacity to do certain things, that is why the country is facing insecurity and unemployment.

“Poverty is the biggest challenge in the country so we must ensure the leadership checks the leakages,” Kwankwaso said.

Celebrities / WHAT!! Gabonese Footballer Mario Lemina Hit With The Uk’s BIGGEST EVER Speeding by 2Ebisco: 5:17pm On Sep 04, 2018
Football star, Mario Lemina, who plays as a central midfielder for English club Southampton has received the UK’s biggest-ever speeding fine and been banned from driving for a year.

The 25-year-old was hit with the £96,000 fine on Monday after failing to tell police on three occasions whether it was him behind the wheel when his Mercedes-AMG GLA45 was clocked for speeding, according to Mail Online.

The Sun reported that the Gabon international claimed that he did not know whether it was his brother or cousin were behind the wheel of his £50,000 Mercedes-AMG GLA45. But he admitted three counts of failing to notify police after ignoring their letters.

Lemina received 18 points on top of the 21 he already had on his non-UK licence, adding up to a year’s driving ban.

According to the report, the fine of £96,000 is three times his weekly salary at the Premier League club, but it could have risen to £144,000 had he denied he was driving at the time.

Lemina did not appear at Aldershot magistrates’ court to receive his punishment but the £96,000 fine exceeded the £86,000 handed to television star Ant McPartlin for drink-driving back in April.

Lemina’s fine is understood to be the biggest to date for a UK motoring offence.

Sports / Kepa Ready To Challenge De Gea For Spain No.1 Spot by 2Ebisco: 10:45am On Sep 04, 2018
A poll conducted by Marca after the match showed nearly half of the fans asked wanted Kepa to take over in the first team for the next game.

Although Kepa himself insists he ignores any such surveys, he is prepared to contest De Gea for the position going forward.

"Being in the squad is already a reason for joy. We all want to be here and we all want to play; I work for that," he told AS.

"We'll meet the coaching staff in the first few days and get ourselves going, because we have two big games ahead.

"It's a question for the coach. What I will do is work, although obviously we all want to play.

"The coach will decide the best thing for the team, but in the training sessions I'll try to put in the effort, for the good of the group most of all.

"All players work to compete and to play. The coach decides and we accept whatever it is, always with good harmony.

"De Gea is a great goalkeeper and the goal is perfectly covered with him. The World Cup was how it was, we came back too early, but I don't pay attention to polls or what people say. I try to isolate myself and focus on myself."

Kepa became the world's most expensive goalkeeper when he joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao for £72 million ($91m) in August.

He has enjoyed an encouraging start to life at Stamford Bridge, keeping two clean sheets in the Blues' four Premier League wins to date this season.

Kepa insists his price tag has not added any extra pressure and is pleased to have taken a "gamble" by moving to London.

"It's the price it is because the market is like that, too," he said. "Higher and higher fees are being paid and I see it as a consequence of the market.

"I'm getting used to my new life: a new city, new team... but it's been positive because when things start well on the pitch, it makes everything easier.

"I have felt valued. In the last few years, a lot of Spaniards have done important things here and that's good for those of us to arrive most recently.

"This is a great club, who in recent years have won the Champions League, Europa League, the Premier League... it's a team with great players.

"It was an important gamble and I'm happy to take this step. I want to enjoy it."
