Real Madrid will face either CD Guadalajara or the winner of the AFC Champions League in the semi-finals of the 2018 Club World Cup.

Madrid, who are looking to win the competiton for a third successive season, will travel to United Arab Emirates in December to contest the competition between the various continental champions from around the globe.

And having missed out on the European Super Cup, it will present Julen Lopetegui with the opportunity to win his first silverware since taking over as coach at Santiago Bernabeu.

Following Tuesday's draw, Madrid know they will kick-off their campaign on December 19, with a potential final date set for December 22.

The tournament will kick-off with UAE Pro-League winners Al Ain - who qualify as the representative of the host nation - taking on OFC Champions League winners, Team Wellington.

The winner of that tie will take on the CAF Champions League winners - with the African tournament currently at the quarter-final stage ahead of the final in November - with a semi-final against the Copa Libertadores winners the prize for the victors.

ABUJA—PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has told Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and other security agencies in the country to allow Nigerians to make their choice in the 2019 general elections without any form of intimidation or manipulation.

The President also made it clear that as a beneficiary of free and fair election, having suffered defeat thrice, he was not afraid of a credible process in next year’s elections.

He reaffirmed his commitment to making sure that the 2019 polls, under his watch, would be free, fair and credible.

This is even as he expressed disappointment over the handling of herdsmen and farmers clashes in the country by the media and advised that the media should make efforts to study its historical antecedents.

Speaking at an interactive session with Nigerian community in Beijing, China, yesterday, Buhari pledged that Nigerians eligible to vote in next general elections would be allowed to freely elect candidates of their choice.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, the President said: “I have no fear about free and fair elections because that is what brought me to the present position. I know what I went through and very few Nigerians could boast of trying four times (contesting for the presidency).

“Those interested in participating in the elections must get their PVCs, register in their constituencies and elect anybody of their choice across ethnicity and religion.

“The Nigeria police, law enforcement agencies and INEC must respect the people to express their wishes.”

Expresses disappointment over media reports of herders/farmers clashes

On herders and farmers clashes in Nigeria, the president told Nigerians in the Diaspora that while security agencies are doing their best to curtail the clashes, the Nigerian media need to complement the efforts through objective and informed reportage.

He appealed to the Nigerian media to make an attempt at understanding the cultural and historical implications of some of the misunderstanding between herders and farmers.

He said: “To my disappointment, there are a number of things which the press in Nigeria does not make enough efforts, in my observation, to study the historical antecedents of issues that are creating national problems for us.”

On Nigeria-China relation

On Nigeria-China relations, the President applauded China’s generosity and contribution to the development of Nigeria, citing the successful completion of Abuja-Kaduna railway line, built by the Chinese, and ongoing works on Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Abuja, Kano railway routes.

He said Nigeria and China were also negotiating on the Mambilla project.

President Buhari advised Nigerians planning to travel abroad for “greener pastures” to do so legitimately and not to expect too much from their countries of destination.

“You cannot seek greener pastures in a place where you are not respected because of the colour of your skin or your lack of education or other things. Personally, I think you will earn more respect when you remain at home and get a job,” he said

The All Progressives Grand Alliance is stricken by a crisis of confidence as the Board of Trustees and National Working Committee are feuding over the zoning of its presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections.

Investigations by our correspondent showed that while the BOT had resolved that the party’s presidential slot be zoned to the north, the NWC said it was not consulted in the resolution.

The BOT meeting that took the decision was, it was learnt, held at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital.

The meeting, it was gathered, was held at the instance of Governor Willie Obiano, who is the party’s National Leader and BOT chairman.

A communiqué of the meeting stated that the board members deliberated on the future of the party, with specific attention given to the upcoming general election and the options facing the party.

Stating the position of the BOT , the Secretary of the board, Sani Shinkafi, confirmed the decision.

He said,“After due considerations based on popular demand by party members, the party has resolved to field a presidential candidate with the ticket zoned to the North, while the Vice Presidential candidate will come from the South -East.”

But a member of the NWC of the party, who pleaded anonymity, said the NWC was not consulted when the BOT took the decision.

He said,”The decision cannot stand. It’s undemocratic and dictatorial. APGA has not taken any decision on the 2019 presidential ticket.

“Any person or group of persons purporting that such decision has been taken by our great party are on their own.

“My advice is that certain people should not allow their personal interests to destroy this party that had cost us our time and resources.

It was gathered that a meeting of the BOT and NWC is expected to hold on September 12.

The popular actress and mother of three described the last three months experience in her life as terrible as she took to her Instagram page on on Wednesday to share how she pulled through the dark moments of her life.

Mercy was said to have been ravaged by her mother’s death that her husband at a point had to declare he wanted his jovial and lively wife ‘back’.

At a stage, some people feared their marriage had collapsed after the actress purportedly deleted all the pictures of herself and hubby from her Instagram account.

She revealed that she had looked into the year 2018 with high expectations but things turned for the worse, following the sudden death of her mother.

Speaking on how she received the death of her mum, the actress said: “When you look into the coming year, you never planned for the worst. You always expect that life will have a way to make itself better. Sometimes, like this past year has taught me, there are other plans. Life simply happens.”

“I have learnt that life happens and sometimes we are powerless to change our circumstances. It has been very terrible in the last three months, but my fans have made me feel better and I thank everyone who took out time to share in my grief,” she added.

The People’s Elephant gaffer has admonished his players to suspend celebration as they seek a place in the last four of the competition

Enyimba coach, Usman Abdallah has stressed that the People’s Elephant’s immediate target is to progress to the semi-final of the Caf Confederation Cup after they sailed through to the last eight as Group C winners on Wednesday.

The People’s Elephant had the privilege of returning back to their home ground for the first time in almost three years and they needed a late goal from Wasiu Alalade to send back CARA Brazzaville of Congo empty-handed.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday hosted South West Caucus of the All Progressives Congress to a dinner at the First Lady Conference hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria gathered that the President and members of the South West APC Caucus used the opportunity of the dinner to deliberate and strategise on the forthcoming Osun State governorship election slated for September 22.
It would be recalled that the National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiohmole, had on Wednesday inaugurated a 63-member national campaign council for the Osun State governorship election in Abuja.

The Campaign Council is headed by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Wednesday blamed the scarcity of local rice in Nigerian markets to disconnect between integrated rice millers and the supply chain.

Who or what is responsible for the said "disconnect"?

Fatimah Aliyu, a Deputy Director, Rice Value Chain in the ministry, stated this in Abuja.

Mrs Aliyu spoke at the 2nd National Congress, Policy Dialogue and Inauguration of the Board of Trustees of Rice Assured Advocacy Forum (RAAF), facilitated by John A. Kufuor Foundation (JAKF).

She said though there was a huge market for local rice, integrated millers were reluctant to push out their products for fear of price competition with imported rice.

Mrs Aliyu was responding to complaints by representatives of some rice millers who claimed that most Nigerians preferred imported rice to local rice because of its cheap price.

The millers blamed the high price of local rice on production cost, resulting from poor power supply, high transport fare and smuggling of foreign rice.

“ There is market for Nigerian rice. There are people willing to pay the high price for it because of its high nutritional value, but they cannot get it to buy. There is that market disconnect that has to be looked into,’’ Mrs Aliyu said.

She urged stakeholders in the rice value chain under the RAAF’s platform to brainstorm on the issue and come out with suggestions on how to tackle the problem.

“We are open to all those suggestions because it is part of policy advocacy. Once you, the stakeholders, give us those suggestions, the government is going to look at them because the situation is also a problem to the government.

“Integrated millers have invested so much in the business, and even government has also invested so much in it. So, it is of importance that integrated millers succeed," she said.

The first National Deputy President of RAAF, Rafau Lawal, called for a policy to encourage consumption of Nigerian rice as is done in Tanzania and other countries.

Mr Lawal said that one of the policy measures being looked at was the branding of Nigerian shops for local rice.

NAN reports that RAAF is a national dialogue platform, aimed at harmonising rice value chain actors in Nigeria to advocate for better policies in the sector.

The above were the words of Prophet T.B. Joshua following the September 2014 collapse of one of the church’s buildings.

It was both shocking and horrendous; an experience no right thinking individual would quickly forget. The fatalities were huge and the level of damage could only be imagined. About four years ago, the devil and his cohorts raised their ugly heads to frustrate the wondrous work that the Almighty God had appointed the senior prophet of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet T.B. Joshua, to carry out to all nations of the world: the preaching of the gospel and bringing healing, hope and health to a troubled world in the name of Jesus. In September, 2014, one of the guest houses owned by the church had crumbled killing many and bringing a dark cloud to temporarily bear on the church of the living God. The world was shocked yet true believers and followers of the man of God were not discouraged.

Speaking to a rather troubled world, Prophet Joshua had insisted that God was behind him and that the perpetrators of the dastardly act would be brought to book. He contended that the CCTV coverage of the incident clearly indicated that an aircraft flew at an altitude that was dangerously too low, thereby triggering the collapse of the building.

Cynics and critics of the man of God laughed, debunking his stand that the collapse of the building had nothing to do with the structure of the building. That building did not collapse as a result of any result resulting from the structural integrity of that property.

After almost four years, precisely in May this year, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Alaba Haruna, told a Lagos High Court that an aircraft flew over the Synagogue Church of All Nations building at Ikotun-Egbe, just before it collapsed on September 12, 2014.

He said one of his patrol teams observed an aircraft flying low over the church and other buildings in the premises. Mr Haruna testified before Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of an Igbosere High Court on Lagos Island as a defence witness in the trial of the registered trustees of the church and four others.

The other defendants were the two engineers who built the building: Messrs Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, and their companies, Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company and Jandy Trust Ltd.

It must be stated that Mr Haruna, Area Commander of the Eastern Ports Command, Port Harcourt, Rivers, was the Divisional Police Officer at Ikotun-Egbe at the time the building collapsed.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is indeed worthy to here make a recap of what Mr Haruna said: “On that fateful day on September12, 2014 at 12.30 p.m., there was a radio communication from the police control room at Ikeja that they were receiving calls from the public of an aircraft flying at low altitude over the church.

“I was directed by the Area Command to confirm the incident and monitor the aircraft’s activities.

I wanted to go out and direct my men to watch out for the aircraft when I received another report of an airplane flying at a very low altitude. I went outside but I couldn’t see it, by that time it had gone.

“I received a call later from Insp. Lucky Ugbaja, stationed at the church that one of the church’s buildings had collapsed.” According to him, the radio room had earlier radioed the Police Airport Command to confirm whether it was carrying out any activity in the church vicinity.

Mr Haruna said when he arrived at the church’s premises there was a large crowd and the few police officers there were trying to manage the situation.

He said onlookers kept trooping in and the crowd spilled to the roads outside the church, causing serious gridlock. “We were overwhelmed,” Mr Haruna told the judge, adding that he called for more police officers and were provided.

According to him, the floors of the collapsed building were lying one on the other, “the church members and others at the scene were engaged in rescue operations.

Those I met there were church worshipers; they were bringing out so many people from under the rubble. Most of the victims were alive.

Some were injured, some were not. Later the Red Cross, Life Savers, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived and joined us in the rescue.” The various checks have been conducted both by local and foreign structural engineers.

They have the unity of submission that the structure was in perfect condition and was not defective. And now, a top serving police officer whose jurisdiction covered the church has testified before the court, corroborated what Prophet Joshua said of an aircraft whose activities brought down the building.

Today, while we remember the martyrs who died in the tragedy perpetrated by haters of the gospel, we must all offer prayers for the repose of the souls of those who died and the continued strength and fortitude for Prophet T.B. Joshua to continue in his master’s business of propagating the gospel of the Lord Jesus.

Yes, like the man in the synagogue said no matter how long a lie is told, truth will prevail. The case against the church should be struck out and if those responsible for the act are not apprehended by the state, many faithful take solace with the man of God that the Almighty God would serve vengeance of the evildoers.

Spice Girls singer Mel B was said to be planning to enter a rehab facility to treat her post-traumatic stress disorder, cex and booze addictions, but the singer has slammed this reports saying she is only going in for PTSD.

The 43-year old while on Ellen DeGeneres hosted by Lea Michele, cleared the air saying;

‘Well, it kind of got a little bit skewed with. Let’s put it that way. Now, I’ve been in therapy since my father got diagnosed with cancer nine years ago…

‘My therapy changed a little bit because I was in a very intense relationship, which you can all read about in my book… So, I do address a lot of those issues. But you know, no, I’m not an alcoholic. No, I’m not a cex addict.

‘You know, I was with the same person for 10 years and that was quite a turmoil, very intense. That’s all I can say about it. I’d like to say a lot more, but let’s just keep it PC. But yeah, I address a lot of those issues and I did kind of have to ease my pain.’

Opposition Party, PDP has called on the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, to use her state visit to Nigeria to uncover the alleged dismal state of the country by resisting what it called “choreographed plan by the Buhari Presidency to hoodwink her for an endorsement stunt.”

The party also called on the British leader not to allow the Buhari Presidency to confine her to the parlours of the Presidential Villa, but to insist on visiting other parts of the nation to enable her to appreciate the alleged level of lies and false performance indices which it said the Federal Government had been dishing out to the world.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, that there were plans by the Federal Government to roll out inaccurate figures during the visit to deceive the international community.

He said,;

“We have been made aware of plans by the Federal Government to use the visit to dish out more lies to the international community in an effort to cover its failures in governance in the last three years, for which Nigerians are clamouring for a new President under the PDP.

“The PDP further charges the British Prime Minister, as a parliamentarian, to take the Buhari Presidency to task on its unabated interferences and violent attacks on the institution of the National Assembly, including threats to forcefully remove the elected presiding officers of the Senate, as well as the recent invasion and blockade of the National Assembly by the Presidency-controlled security forces.

“The PDP also wants the British leader to put President Muhammadu Buhari to task on his widely condemned stand against the supremacy of the rule of law in addition to records of the violation of human rights in Nigeria.

“This includes government’s disobedience to court orders, reported extrajudicial killings, torture, unlawful political arrests and detention, restriction of free speech and media freedom and lack of government’s accountability as detailed in the reports by various international bodies, including Transparency International, Amnesty International and the US Department of State.”

Ologbondiyan said the British leader should also elicit discussions with the President on the recent report by Price Waterhouse Cooper which he said allegedly showed humongous corruption in his administration, including the circumstances surrounding the N4tn unremitted oil money in agencies under his direct supervision as a minister.

He urged the Prime Minister to engage Buhari on the alleged violent rigging of elections under his watch and extract a commitment from him on his administration’s preparedness to organise free, fair and credible general elections in 2019.

He said there “are apprehensions across Nigeria,” that the President’s actions, utterances and body language suggest otherwise.

Meanwhile, the PDP has asked President Buhari to explain the whereabouts of the alleged N4tn unremitted oil revenue and other “financial rots in the Presidency” as detailed in the audit report by the Price Waterhouse Cooper, a firm commissioned by the administration.

The party said the report had further confirmed that Buhari had been presiding over what it described as a very corrupt administration, while at the same time posturing as Mr Integrity and pointing fingers at everyone else but himself.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, that Nigerians, particularly those who he said had been defending the Buhari administration, were shocked by the revelations.

He said it was more shocking that the alleged theft of N4tn could happen under the direct supervision of ‘honest’ President Buhari, as minister of Petroleum Resources.

He said, “Nigerians are also shocked to learn how some ministers under President Buhari stole N413m from agencies and parastatals using fraudulent imprests.

Troops of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation WHIRL Punch have arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered 49 cows from him in Gawgawda village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Muhammad Dole, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Dole said the troops responded to a distress call on the activities of suspected cattle rustlers in Gwagwada village.

“While on the pursuit, one cattle rustler was arrested and 49 rustled cows were recovered from him,” he said.

He also disclosed that troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army (1 Div NA) under Operation WHIRL PUNCH received credible information about a location near Jumu Village in Chukun local government area.

He said the place was where bandits used as a base to perpetrate criminalities along Kaduna – Abuja road.

“The troops embarked on fighting patrol, located and raided the identified hideouts.

The deputy director, however, said the bandits fled the area on sighting the troops.

” After ransacking the hideouts, one AK47 rifle; one locally made pistol and one fabricated Dane Gun were recovered,” he said

He assured the general public that the troops would continue to dominate the Kaduna – Abuja and Kaduna – Birnin Gwari general areas with patrols and raids on the suspected bandits’ routes and hideouts.

Dole also assured that the pressure on the bandits would be sustained in order to ensure safe passage for commuters and motorists.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for challenging President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to a debate on good governance.

The party stated that it viewed the request as another laughable example of the PDP’s selective amnesia on the 16 years of locust it wreaked on Nigeria during its defunct rule.

Yekini Nabena, APC National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Monday said the PDP needed to be reminded of the reason why Nigerians voted it out unanimously in 2015 to give way to a progressive administration which is rebuilding the country in all facets from the foundation.

He wrote: “A Party synonymous with impunity; institutionalised corruption; diversion of counter-insurgency votes to political cronies and funding of political activities; illegal purchase of bullet-proof SUVs, limousines and private jet shindigs for ministers at public expense; non-remittance of $20 billion oil revenue; among other atrocities too numerous to mention, cannot be in a position to debate on good governance

“A Party whose administration placed the economy on life support through its voodoo economics and fiscal recklessness cannot be in a position to debate on good governance.

“The PDP in its desperation to position itself as the 2019 general election approaches cannot hoodwink Nigerians on who they truly are.”

When asked about his marriage plans, 9ice declared that he would not marry again after his first marriage with Toni Payne reportedly crashed.

Speaking on life after being separated from his wife, Toni, the Gongo Aso crooner had said, “I am okay, I have gotten over it. For me right now, I think it is a past thing. I have moved on and I am enjoying my life.”

In July 2008, 9ice married Toni Payne after the two were reportedly met through a mutual friend, Ruggedman.

In 2010, 9ice announced his separation from his wife. Soon after, there were speculations that his marriage crashed due to alleged infidelity claims.

It was also speculated that his controversial song ‘Once Bitten’ was directed at Toni Payne’s perceived romance with Ruggedman. 9ice’s career has not been at the high side lately. In April 2012, he relieved Dehinde Fajana’s role as his manager.

Popular Nigerian cross-dresser, Bobrisky has opened up that he is not gay and does not associate himself with anything that has to do with gay people especially visiting a gay club.

In this new interview with Christy Anyanwu of Sunnewsonline, Bobrisky talked about having a girlfriend who is not based in Nigeria and he plans to take her as wife one day.

Do you have a girlfriend?

Yes, I have a girlfriend and she lives in London. My girlfriend understands the game, I made her understand and told her not to get distracted with what she hears about me.

How do you relax?

I’m an indoor person, I don’t go out. After my business I stay in my house.

What is your favorite fashion accessory?

I love jewelry. I wear designer items. I love Gucci and Christian Louboutin, these are the fashion accessories that keep you classy and expensive.

What is your wardrobe made of?

I don’t have male stuff in my house. I don’t have anything male in my wardrobe. However, I have little men stuff I wear in my house, when I am all alone.

Some people find me interesting outside the country. In places like Europe and America, they find me interesting. They love my fashion sense.

They tell me I wear my dresses better than females. I did a lot of research on how to crossdress before I dabbled into it. People ask me if I’m a transgender and I tell them there are differences between a crossdresser and a transgender. So, I’m still a crossdresser.

So one day you will become a transgender?

I will never. Nothing will make me change my gender. Nothing. I have already drafted what I want to be and what I want for myself in life. So these are my secrets.

Would Bobrisky have a wife someday?

Yes I will. It’s going to be a lavish wedding and I will surprise the world.

When would that be?

That’s a secret for now.

Your girlfriend is in London, won’t that affect the relationship?

No. Because I travel to London often. I will be in London in less than five days.

You walk like a female, did you learn it?

I learnt all that. It’s all part of fashion. When you are into fashion you learn how to catwalk and how to walk on heels and how to behave when you wear native outfits. Some girls don’t even know how to behave when they are in traditional outfit or in Aso-Ebi.

They should act like a native or local person in Aso Ebi. But when you are in a classy English attire, you should act expensive and walk expensive. Most girls don’t know about that. I want them to come and learn from me.

Later, I will set up a grooming school to educate girls on how to catwalk, makeup and how to compose yourself as a woman. You see, many women act like men. They don’t know how to compose themselves. That’s why their husbands cheat on them a lot because their husbands want a sexy behaviour and comportment. I will teach all these things in my grooming school.

What lessons has life taught you as a person?

Just be yourself and be who God wants you to be in life; don’t allow anybody to distract you. Though a lot of people insult me and call me names on social media, I just laugh over these things because when they come to where I live, they are dazed, wondering where I get the money to do all these things? The more they insult me the more I make my money.

There’s a transgender club/crossdresser club. Do you belong to it?

No! Never! I even don’t have a friend. Like I told you, they have different reasons they do their thing, my own reason is totally different, which is to be famous and get my goods sold. You can never see me in gay or transgender clubs. What will I go there to do? You can never see me there because I’m not gay.

With all these are you still a Muslim?

Yes. But I won’t lie to you, I don’t practice Islam. I know this is wrong to say…. my busy schedule doesn’t give me time to practice the religion. However, I still kneel down before I sleep and talk to my God, thanking God for the day, his provision. It’s the prayer from heart that God prefers not the dramatic ones that you must go to the Mosque to pray. That’s why I founded Bobrisky Foundation.

What is your foundation about?

It’s about helping people. Helping widows and orphanage. I pay school fees for people because a lot of people helped pay my school fees. When my mother died, I went around my mum’s friends for school fees too and they were there for me. So, when I see people in need of something, I like to help because I have been there before.

Omoniyi Ademola, who was arrested for killing an Ekiti Monarch, Onise of Odo Oro, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin, has confessed that he did it to claim his throne.

The suspect who was paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Ahmed, at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti on Friday, was accused of stabbing the king to death in his palace on Wednesday shortly after the monarch held a council meeting with his chiefs.

Ademola who disclosed that his family had duly nominated him to take over from the late king, alleged that the slain Ekiti Monarch hindered his ascension to the throne despite having his seat declared vacant by the town.

“The crown didn’t belong to Oba Ogunsakin because the town had last year declared the seat vacant following the death of our Oba.

“My family nominated me to take over only for him to resurface again and said he remained the Oba. My family nominated me in December 2017, and since then, I have been trying to take over. That day when I got to the palace, it was the late Oba (Ogunsakin) that first attacked me and I attacked him back which led to his death” he said.

The State Commissioner of Police who spoke to newsmen, dispelled the insinuation that Ademola was a lunatic.

“I am not a medical expert to know who is mentally unstable or not. But the fact remains that, how could a lunatic commit murder and run over 100 kilometres from the scene of the incident? So, commonsense dictates that he must have known what he was doing to have run from that town to Ado Ekiti,” the CP said.

25 other suspects who were arrested for cultism and murder, were also paraded by the command. One of the suspects was one Toyin Ajakaye, who allegedly hanged a commercial motorcyclist (popularly known as okada rider) in his farm in Agbado Ekiti on Wednesday.

APC will invade and takeover Akwa- Ibom like Hitler took over Poland – Godswill Akpabio

For many Nigerians, the events of the World War 11 are distant tales that bear little impact on the developmental challenges of our country. With the exception of Nigerians who were recruited to serve in the British Army many of who saw action in Burma, the narration of the war remains in the realm of imagination.

So, when the immediate-past Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said the next general election in Akwa Ibom would be likened to the Nazi putsch towards Warsaw, Poland, it inevitably brought home to all what some people could be planning towards the election, political watchers and analysts have said.

Speaking during a church service in Aguobu-Owa, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State as part of the burial service of his wife, Nneoma’s grandmother, Akpabio was quoted as saying: “We can’t talk politics in the church, but in 2019, Warsaw shall see war and war shall see Warsaw. The return will be victory. May God grant us all victory.”

Suffice for Akpabio to say that he would not talk politics in the church, especially at a service to mark the burial of his wife’s grandmother.

It is not that he more than fouled what should ordinarily have been a solemn occasion in memory of the dead woman, the reference to war and brinkmanship more than fouled the aspiration for peace that many Nigerians are craving for in the forthcoming elections.

Reacting to Akpabio’s comments, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edet Udo, said, “By looking towards Nazi exploits of the World War 11, Senator Akpabio has inevitably brought to question his judgment and sensibility on issues pertaining to the rapacious atrocities of Nazi Germany. Indeed it is unimaginable that today someone could look to Nazi Germany for emulation in any conduct.

“Certainly, Senator Akpabio would not claim ignorance of the fact that at least 4.3 million persons died on account of the Second World War directly provoked by the Nazis. He also would not claim ignorance of the fact thousands of Polish citizens were killed directly in the Warsaw Uprising and other operations masterminded by the Nazi German forces when as Akpabio said, Warsaw saw war and war saw Warsaw.

“It may have sounded sonorous, but for those who experienced the war in Poland, it was undoubtedly not a laughing experience. So, when about 80 years later, just when those who experienced the brutish savagery of the Nazi German occupation forces were beginning to put that memory to the past or had even died, that Akpabio brought up suggestions of repeating the same brutish savagery on his people, it shuddered many.

“Of course, when the war Akpabio promises breaks out, it is evident that his children will not be at the forefront, or even be in any column on the way to battle.

“Politicians in this clime, who resort to killing, thuggery or other forms of violence to claim power often do not use their children. Can anyone remember ever seeing the child of any of the prominent politicians engage in a shootout, or even being involved in snatching a ballot box or any form of election violence?”

Also reacting, a Second Republic politician in the state, Nsikak Akpaide, said: “Indeed, as the elections approach, many politicians send their family members out of the country and fortify themselves with police officers and other forms of official and unofficial security operatives. Even if the official security is enough to guard their children, yet they still relocate their family members abroad”.

“It is this hypocrisy of the Nigerian politician that has again been brought to fore by this claim by Senator Akpabio.

“At a time that Akwa Ibom has returned to the civility and peace that eluded it during the Akpabio years, it is indeed shocking that the former governor would like to return the state to that ugly period when the value of life was brought to its lowest ebb in the history of the state on account of the brutish struggle for political supremacy.

“It is welcoming that several political disciples of Senator Akpabio seeing the mistake of their former boss, have uncommonly stayed away from backing him on this venture directed against his people. Even if Akpabio were to wage war and make his people see war, that his former supporters have stayed away from backing him is salutary to the common sense of propriety that should flow in the life of Akwa Ibom people.

“Even more, the quick disavowal of the move by Akpabio by some respected Akwa Ibom elders is welcome. They have told the former governor who ordinarily should be an elder, that they (elders) do not think that it is fair game to turn your state into a war zone because of political power.

“Among those reported to have rebuffed Akpabio at a political rally in Ikot Ekpene recently were the former minister of lands and housing, Chief Nduese Essien, the former deputy governor of the state, Dr. Chris Ekpeyong, former Senator Effiong Bob and a host of other elders of the state.

“That these elders all of whom were not too long ago in the same camp with Akpabio came out to distance themselves from the former governor’s war chant is indicative of the fact that even though some may still instigate war, but the forces against them under the guidance of God Almighty will not allow the war merchants to succeed,” he said...Read More Here

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has maintained that no amount of curses that people of the State place on him, can take effect on him because he is doing the right thing.

Ajimobi said this when he spoke with newsmen after the Eid el-Kabir celebration at Agodi Eid Ground.

He said this while reacting to the number of curses the state residents have placed on him following the demolition of the music house owned by singer Yinka Ayefele.

“The lesson I learnt from the sojourn in the last seven years that we have been running the government is that one needs to fear God. If one fears God, no matter the curses placed on him, such curse can never have effect on him.

And if someone does what deserve curses and people pray for such an individual, the prayer cannot work for such a person. For me, no matter the curses, it can never affect me because I know I’m working for prayers and not curses. I’m serving the people wholeheartedly and I’m happy that God will give us success.”

“I never persecute people, but follow the law and stick to it. Those who say you are wrong today, tomorrow they will see. As a leader, anytime you want to make a change, some people, enlightened, unenlightened, ignorant, mischievous will play politics with it. But, a good leader must have the courage to go ahead.

Reports has it that some gunmen forced their way into a clergyman’s apartment and shot Reverend Hosea Akuchi before leaving with his wife, Talatu Akuchi. The incident which happened on Monday at about 1am, has been confirmed by the Kaduna State Police Command.

The spokesperson disclosed that;

“The gunmen came at about 1am; I don’t know how many of them but they were shooting sporadically. We thought they were armed robbers, everybody was scared,” a witness said.

“They wanted to kidnap the pastor, but he was resisting them by struggling with them and they shot him. After killing him, they went away with his wife.”

NAN reported that DSP. Yakubu Sabo, the resident Pastor of the church was shot while struggling with the attackers.

“In the early hours of this morning, information reaching us that some armed men storm the house of Reverend Hosea and attempted to kidnap him,” he said.

“But after struggling with them, they shot him and took away his wife. It is quite unfortunate that while we are keeping the peace we are enjoying in Kaduna, some criminals are doing this to sabotage our collective efforts.

“We have visited the scene of the unfortunate incident and we are trying our best to get to the root of this incident and as soon as we get more information, I will get back to you” the police spokesman said in a telephone interview.”

Former tennis player, Gul Hamid, is now selling his trophies in order to live.

The 68-year-old who has been playing tennis for the last 50 years won three International Tennis Federation cups, reports Geo TV.

Speaking to Geo News he said, “I took my cups to sell to Arif Sahib, at Pakistan Sports Board, as I had no choice.”

Jobless since over a decade, Hamid now lives with his second wife in a remote village near Wah Cantt. His first wife and children live in Karachi and he is also responsible for them.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress has come under severe criticism from Governor Tambuwal over a recent comment.

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has said that he has what it takes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in any political platform.

According to him, if he wanted to remain in the APC and battle the party’s ticket with Buhari, he would have done so and win the presidency.

The Governor made this known in his reaction to the statement by the APC National Leader, Ahmed Tinubu, about his exit from the ruling party.

He attacked the National leader of APC, Bola Tinubu over a recent comment.

According to a statement on the State’s Twitter handle, @sokotogovthouse, Tambuwal said that Tinubu tried to rock the boat when he was denied as Buhari’s Vice President, adding that the former Lagos Governor thinks everyone was like him.

“If I wanted to and if the Presidency is what (why) Ahmed Tinubu thinks I defected, I could contest with President Buhari under the APC. I have what it takes to have contested with Mr. President.”

“Tinubu tried to rock the boat when he was denied Buhari’s vice presidency. He thinks every other person could behave his way. If I wanted to contest under the APC as president, I could have done so and only the votes could have produced a winner.”

He added that Tinubu’s statement could serve as a confirmation that there was no internal democracy in the ruling party.

He added, “In any case, Tinubu is confessing that there is no level-playing ground for all members of the APC; that there is no internal democracy in it and that some people were denied their right to internal democracy.”

The former Lagos State Governor had on Sunday alleged that Tambuwal wants to become president, the reason for his exit from APC: “Governor Tambuwal’s exit can be distilled to one cause. He covets the Presidency. However, he had not the stomach to challenge President Buhari in a primary. Tambuwal felt further insulted that he would be compelled to face a direct primary just to retain the governorship”

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmed has reacted to the resignation of 252 special advisers and assistants to Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

DAILYPOST had earlier reported that two hundred and fifty-two special advisers and special assistants appointed under Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s administration in Sokoto State on Sunday resigned from their positions.

Nollywood actor, Femi Adebayo, has explained that being an actor has made him do some terrible things such as slapping his father, Adebayo Salami, aka Oga Bello.

While speaking with Sunday Scoop, he said as an actor, one must be ready to do anything to play unbelievable roles. He stated, “I have been presented with scripts where I had to slap my father on set and I must do it as an actor. He has slapped me on set too countless times. The moment we are acting, I don’t see him as my father anymore; I see him as a colleague and we need to interpret our roles very well. He trained me and he is my boss in the industry. He has taught me not to fear whenever I come across a bigger actor or someone like him on set. But the moment the director says stop, I prostrate to him and apologise.”

Similarly, he said he and his father decided to support Jigan with their viral ‘Sho Mo Age Mi Ni’ skit on Instagram.He said, “Jigan is more like a boy to us. When he came out with the trend, we felt we could do a skit to endorse it. The irony was in asking my biological father if he knew my age.”

Adebayo, who recently featured in an English movie, The Island, insisted that he had no regrets being a Yoruba actor. He said, “The only difference between an English and Yoruba movie is the language but the reaction as well as interpretation, most times, are the same.

Given another chance, I would still prefer to come into the industry as a Yoruba actor because it has made me know my culture. All my days in school, I was taught a foreign culture and language. Later, I had the opportunity of learning about my culture, which I would not have learnt if I had started as an English actor. Majority of the people who started with English movies don’t have the opportunity I have had.”

He, however, admitted that there was no way Yoruba actors would earn more than English actors. Adebayo said, “English is a general language and it is universally accepted, unlike the Yoruba language. We cannot expect a Yoruba movie to have the same audience as an English movie. The majority of Yoruba movies’ fans are Yoruba people. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has rubbished stories claiming that he is at loggerheads with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Dogara made this clear in a statement signed by Turaki Hassan, his Special Adviser (Media & Public Affairs) and made available to DAILY POST.

“Please beware of evil people, merchants of lies, falsehood and mendacity whose primary occupation is to concoct, contrive, fabricate and brew mischief and fake news which they spread and broadcast like wild fire on social media.

“These paid minions who have sold their conscience and souls to the devil for a morsel have been broadcasting lies on social media especially WhatsApp with the sole aim of deceiving and hoodwinking the public into believing that there is a rift between the two leaders of the National Assembly – Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and His Excellency Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

“To the contrary, Dr. Saraki and Barrister Dogara have enjoyed harmonious working relationship in the last three years. The Rt. Hon. Speaker will never ever say those things about the President of the Senate. But for the unsuspecting members of the public and supporters of the two leaders, we would have ignored this latest round of fallacious and fictitious perfidy which is nothing but a piece of devilish fiction as it will fizzle out and end in the pit of hell where it came from,” the statement read.

Earlier this week, both leaders of the two legislatives houses, issued a joint statement explaining why the National Assembly could not reconvene.

David Adeleke, the Nigerian mega-star musician, popularly called Davido has declared his ambition to partner with the Rivers State Government to develop music talents in the state.

Davido who spoke during the visit to Governor Wike at the Government House Port Harcourt on Friday stated that Davido Music Worldwide has identified young musicians who will be promoted in the state.

The pop star lauded Governor Wike for being one of the best performing governors in the current dispensation, saying that his visit exposed him to several developmental projects of the governor.

He noted that his goal is grow international music stars outside Lagos and empower more youths through music.

He announced that his organisation will organise a major music concert in Port in December where local and international music stars will participate.

He appealed to the Rivers State Governor to support the governorship campaign of his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke for Osun State Government House.

The Mega-Star Musician condoled with the Rivers State Governor on the death of the Attorney General of Rivers State, Hon Emmanuel Aguma. He prayed God to grant him the strength to bear the loss.

Responding, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike assured Davido that the Rivers State Government will partner with him to groom young musicians in the state.

“We are committed to youth empowerment. Supporting musicians to grow is one of such avenues. Therefore, we will partner with you to grow Rivers based musicians”, he said
