The National Economic Council (NEC) says the security situation in Benue Sate has improved.

Benue State Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, briefed State House correspondents after NEC meeting presided over by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday.

Abounu said that the National Security Adviser, Babagana Mongunu, briefed the council on behalf of the various security agencies on the critical security issues nationwide.

“This ranges from kidnapping, gun-running, cattle rustling, tension between pastoralists and farmers, pipeline vandalism and communal clashes that exist nationwide.

“There is a synergy between the security agencies in tackling the menace of security issues in the county.

“NEC noticed of course, that there is lot of improvement in handling the insecurity situation in the country.

“A particular example that was given is the issue of pastoralists and farmers crisis in some parts of the country especially, North-Central, the North-West and other parts.

“For instance, the deployment of Operation Whirlstroke in Benue, has brought about improvement and especially put a near end to the killings that was very rampant in the area,” he said.

The deputy governor said that the state had started enjoying relative peace.

He said that the council decided that the military personnel in ‘Operation Whirlstroke’ should not be withdrawn in a hurry because their presence will bring about the needed stability.

According to him, such stability is needed to enable the internally displaced persons to return to their various localities.

Abounu said that troops had been deployed to the various flashpoints and a lot of improvements had been recorded.

He added that there were plans regarding the handling of other security problems especially pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.

Mr Ahmed Haruna, an All Progressives Congress lawmaker representing Gombe North Constituency in the State Assembly on Thursday announced his defection to the Peoples’ Democratic Party and resigned his post as Minority Leader.

Haruna, who announced his defection and resignation during plenary, alleged that the APC in Gombe State had made several attempts to blackmail him.

He said the attempted blackmail and suspension issued to him by the state chapter of APC, and the failure of the national leadership to respond constitutionally to his complaints were responsible for his defection to the PDP.

“The attempt by the Gombe chapter of the APC on May 30, to blackmail me, despite being a faithful member of the party, is obvious they are not following the party’s constitution.

“Also, the letter of suspension issued to me by the party without following the constitution, shows that the party has no regard for the provisions of the Nigerian and APC constitutions.

“ I wrote to the national office seeking for justice over the undemocratic suspension, but nothing was done. With all sense of respect, APC has no regards for the provision of the party.

“As a loyalist, I realised that the APC manifesto was there for campaign purposes and not for implementations; I will not allow myself to be ridiculed and rubbished, so today, I formally announce my defection from the APC to the PDP.

“Having defected to PDP, the action has changed my status from minority leader to majority member and since it’s obvious that a majority member cannot be minority leader, that position is gone,’’ he said.

The Speaker, Nasiru Nono, immediately welcomed him to the PDP and said that the House was happy to receive him.

Amos Fabulous, the majority leader of the House, also congratulated Haruna for his decision to defect to the PDP.

Reacting to the development, Mrs Naomi Awak, APC Public Relations Officer in Gombe, in a telephone chat said the party was unmoved.

She added that with or without him, APC would emerge victorious in the state during the forthcoming elections in 2019.

“APC is not moved. With or without him, we will win at both the state and national levels in 2019.

“It’s not surprising, because he has been working with the opposition to destroy the APC in Gombe.

“Having failed, he has gone back to where he belongs and the party will move forward with or without him,” she said.

Following the defection of the minority leader, NAN reports that the House now has 17 PDP and seven APC members.

A senior lecturer at the Department of Religious Studies, University of Jos, Professor Umar Habila Dadem Danfulani has explained true facts behind the recent massacres in Plateau State.

The don cautioned reporters and media houses to stop attributing the killings to mere clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

Danfulani, himself a native of the troubled Plateau State said the killings were basic ethnic cleansing.

Fielding questions after delivering a keynote address, “African Pentecostalism: Probity and Accountability,” at the just concluded International Conference on African Pentecostalism, ICAP, the cleric with the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) is of the opinion that Christians in the southern part of the country do not understand what is happening in the North.

Asked to give his perspective to the much talked about fear of Islamisation, the Plateau-born Prof. Danfulani said: “When you are in the south, I don’t think you understand the problem that people are facing in the Middle Belt of Nigeria. I don’t think it’s so much a problem of islamisation than it is of ethnic cleansing.

“It is not herdsmen-farmers clash! Lots of journalists continue to publish rubbish that what is happening in the North is a clash between farmers and herdsmen. That is not true.

“Let me give you a scenario; you have a man who has some cows and he’s moving around with AK47—-because I am in a crisis area, I know a bullet costs N500. To buy an AK47, you need between three and four million naira. So how many cows will I sell to be able to buy an AK47 riffle together with ammunitions? Does it make sense?” he asked.

Continuing, he said: “Economically it will be penny wise pound foolish. So then what actually is happening? In Jos, we have been in this crisis since 2001, some people forget, they think that this is something new. No! It’s a continuation of that. Yoruba Muslims in the North, ethnic Muslims in the North, have they been spared because they are Muslims?

“If you’ve answered this question, you will now know where the problem is coming from. It’s the problem of ethnic cleansing. It’s not just the agenda of Usman Dan Fodio spirit of Islam, it’s the agenda to grab the land and to push the indigenes that are seen as infidels away from the ancestral land and to take over.

“I’m telling you it has already been happening in Jos for a very long time. From the period between Gov. Joshua Dariye and Gov. Jonah Jang, Fulani herdsmen have settled in four local governments and all these local governments are bounded together. They have sent out the indigenes from that area since 1999 till date.

“So the last programme that happened in Barkin Ladi and Mangu local governments was just an attempt to extend their frontiers. They have said it is possible because they did it there and nobody said anything.

“You can see that all the emirs from the North are quiet, which means they are in support of what is happening. If not so, at least one of them would have spoken. So it is a programme! It is an ethnic cleansing and it is unacceptable because the only way that the indigenes can respond is to organise themselves and return fire for fire because the government is already implicated.

Asked to assess the Federal Government’s involvement in all the brouhaha, the COCIN cleric said: “If a whole retired Lieutenant General from the Nigerian army and a man who was known to be involved in so many military coups in Nigeria, General Theophillus Danjuma, can come out and say very clearly that you are on your own then you know really you are on your own.

“Military personnel were seen being dropped from helicopters. No Fulani is fighting the people; the people are fighting with the federal forces of Nigeria—-mercenaries and some people that have been carefully picked.

“We have been living with it and we know exactly what is happening. No Fulani is fighting us. The Fulanis are using the federal might to fight us. That is the truth. Even the Head of State knows it,” Danfulani said matter of factly, pointing out that most of Service chiefs have blood on their hands.

Nevertheless, the university don believes that Christianity has always blossomed more where there’s persecution, pointing out that the people are usually empowered in such a way that Christianity will actually ride on the wings of persecution. ”That is our history.

“Before Constantine, Christians were being butchered and killed; Christian corpses were being used as torches in the night to light the streets. It was that bad. But at the end of the day, there was respite. Before Constantine died, he allowed Christianity to flourish and his children made it an official religion. Remember China, during the period of Mao Tse Tung,” he consoling Christians.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai and 49 senior officers on Wednesday at the Army Headquarters, Abuja took a language proficiency test in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba languages.

Brig.-Gen Texas Chukwu, the army spokesman, said the test was part of the army’s effort to ensure that all personnel were proficient in the use of the three major Nigerian languages.

Chukwu said the test came after eight months of intensive lecture organised by the army headquarters for the senior officers.

He said the belief in the army was that understanding those languages would aid troops during internal security operations across the country.

“This will also enhance mutual cooperation between the army and the general public,” he said.

Chukwu said the senior officers that participated in the test included Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters, Corps Commanders, Directors, among others.

He quoted Buratai as commending the officers for their conduct throughout the period of the test.

The army chief said the result of the test will be announced soon and urged them to prepare for another exam next week.

…FG Committed To Enhance Enabling Environment For Shipping

The multimillion dollar floating Dockyard owned by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) which arrived the country recently will save the Country millions of dollars in capital flight once operational noting that efforts are being made to create enabling environment for the growth of indigenous participation in shipping.

The Director General of the Agency, Dr. Dakuku Peterside who made this known during an interactive session with Journalists in Lagos said that the facility which would be operated on a Public Private Partnership model will be located at a facility of the Nigerian Navy.

The NIMASA DG said that the Floating Dockyard would commence operations immediately after the commissioning by President Muhammadu Buhari. He added that when fully operational, Nigerian Shipowners and their foreign counterparts would no longer need to take their vessels outside the country for dry docking.

According to him, “Nigeria looses up to $100m annually simply because when our shipowners need to dry dock their vessels, they mostly take them to neighboring countries like Ghana and Cameroun thus spending avoidable forex. When this facility is fully operational it has the capacity to drydock any vessel in-country and save the much needed foreign exchange”.

Speaking further Dr. Peterside noted that the facility would be operated in conjunction with the builders as technical partners. He also assured that it will create thousands of jobs for teeming Nigerian youths as well as provide training opportunities for seafarers, adding that the NIMASA floating dockyard would also be available as a training facility for the students of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko and other maritime institutions in the Country.

“We are planning to ensure that the permanent location of this facility would benefit our students for training and we have also engaged the builders to manage the facility for a one year period at a Naval facility” while further arrangements are being worked out”, he said.

Speaking on other issues, Dr. Peterside said that the Agency is working on a special foreign exchange intervention for vessel parts acquisition and loan repayment processes to enable indigenous operators compete favourably with their foreign counterparts. He added that there is a team working with the Central Bank of Nigeria on how best this policy can be implemented. He said this is aside working towards the disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) which will give room for a full-fledged Cabotage regime with more job opportunities created.

Commenting on the Agency’s Survey, Inspection & Certification Transformation Programme, Dr Dakuku Peterside disclosed that 3,752 Certificates of Competency (CoC) were issued in 2017 to successful Seafarers. Representing a 149 % increase from the CoCs issued in 2016.

Dr. Peterside said that the impact of this is the confidence of stakeholders who now willingly verify certificates without prompting. He further informed that a total of 1,880 certificates were authenticated for stakeholders in 2017 alone, a significant rise when compared to the 1013 CoCs verified in 2016.

The NIMASA DG further informed that the number of Nigerian Seafarers placed onboard vessels from January to June this year is 2,337 representing 58.9% increase in the number of seafarers employed stating that this move has led to job and wealth creation in line with the Federal Government Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP.

Operatives of the Enugu State Inland Revenue Service on Tuesday sealed a branch of Sterling Bank Plc in the state.

The tax agency accused the financial institution of not remitting the necessary taxes to the state government as required by law.

It was gathered that the bank was specifically sealed on Tuesday over alleged non-remittance of withholding tax on interest deduction due to the Enugu State government for the period of 2015 and 2016.

The revenue board accused the bank of owing it to the tune of N72 million.

The bank was sealed after the Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue reportedly obtained a court order to carry out the action.

The affected lender’s branch is located on Ogui Road.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the bank for comments at the time of filing this report were not successful.

The National Assembly will not reconvene on Tuesday, contrary to the announcement made last week by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun.

Abdul-Razak Namdas, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, gave reasons while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

According to him, the National Assembly would not be reconvening, because there was no firm decision to that effect.

“We are working towards resumption but not tomorrow (Tuesday) specifically.

“I want to tell you that the entire leadership, this time around, not just some (members), will meet and a definite decision will be taken.

“For us to do anything jointly, we need to be on the same page.

“We will achieve that and I think that, very soon, either this night or so, our leaders will meet on this matter and we will make it known to Nigerians when exactly we are resuming,” Namdas said.

Police have arrested a man who beat up his wife to a pulp because she had not cooked food for him by the time he got home.

The man Naftali Luzuli pounced on his wife and beat her up almost to death because she hadn’t used the KSh500 he supposedly left for her to buy food.

The victim, identified as Valerie, is currently admitted at Moi Referral Hospital.

Pictures of the victim, which have been circulating on social media, shows her with a badly swollen face.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari over the Federal Government’s youth empowerment scheme, otherwise known as N-Power.

Speaking to Thisday, Atiku noted that with National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealation that 7.9 million Nigerians had lost their jobs in the last21 months, giving people “handouts” through N-Power would not solve unemployment.

The Wazirin Adamawa also mocked Buhari’s choice of appointees, saying they can’t achieve anything because they were not successful business owners.

He said: “The current government cannot create jobs because it is headed and peopled by men and women who have never run successful businesses. They even ran their own private businesses down.

“So, how can you expect them to run the public’s business up? What I am assuring Nigerians is that if they elect me, I promise them that everyone who wants to work will be given opportunities.

“Even this thing they are doing, called N-Power, is a product of their poverty mindset. Nigerians do not need handout. Nigerians need a leg up! Our people are not lazy.

The Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) in Ekiti State has bemoaned the assassination of Comrade Bunmi Ojo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former Personal Assistant to ex-governor Segun Oni.

The party said the killing of the commissioner in the Federal Character Commission by yet-to-be-identified gunmen is a challenge to the security agencies on the safety of Nigerians in public places.

Ojo was shot dead in Ado-Ekiti on Friday night by armed killers numbering about six, who invaded a viewing centre where he had gone to watch a football match.

In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday by PPN State Publicity Secretary, Rev Moses Ajagunigbala, the party condoled with the Ojo family, his community, the APC and Ekiti State on the untimely loss of the promising Nigerian through the action of killers.

The party stated: “We call on the police to move swiftly to uncover and apprehend those behind the dastardly act with a view to ensuring such does not continue in case the killers are on a mission to exterminate some perceived enemies.

“The police must also spread their dragnet to rid the state of arms which had found their ways into wrong hands. This killing is a loud statement that arms still litter the state and indeed the country. The security agencies should step up efforts to recover all such arms. Only such could prevent repeat of such heinous crime and restore confidence of citizens on safety.

“The governorship election is behind us in Ekiti State, but the forthcoming general elections are around the corner, efforts must be in top gear to ensure peace and security of lives and property. The security agencies must not take anything for granted.

“The PPN in Ekiti State is particularly worried because of our conviction that peace is a necessary condition for the development of our state which we are craving. So, all hands must be on the deck.

“We are deeply touched by the killing of this humble Ekiti man. For a man of his status to have gone to a viewing centre with friends to watch soccer showed how humble and people-centred he was. We commiserate with with his immediate family and Ekiti State in general. It is our prayer thatGod gives the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Ajagunigbala said.

Falz who had reacted to the NBC ban on his song ‘This is Nigeria’ which they say contains vulgar words, has threatened to sue the agency a day after he shared a letter which revealed that a Radio Station in Jos was fined for playing the song.

The call for the song’s ban had first been made by MURIC, who claimed that some ladies in hijab were dancing Shaku Shaku and they believed it was against the Islamic religion, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. However announcing the song’s ban this week, the NBC said;

This is Nigeria, look how we living now. Everybody be criminal,” stating that it made the song vulgar and it was in contravention of Section 3.6.1 and 3.13.2.2 of its constitution.

Falz who disclosed that he felt it was ridiculous for the commission to ban the song, argued that it was not a vulgar song but a socially conscious piece of art which addresses the current issues in the country.

In his Interview with Saturday Beats, Falz said;

“There is absolutely nothing vulgar about the song and I think it is ridiculous that the Nigerian Broadcast Commission singled out the least vulgar line in the song and ascribed it to be the reason they banned the song. It is a very simple and clean song. The only thing is that I was very blunt about the way I talk about things. I do not know maybe some messages in the song hit them and that is the real reason they banned the song. The line was, ‘This is Nigeria, look how we living now. Everybody be criminal.’ If they ban this song, then I do not understand them because that song is definitely not a vulgar song.”

He also stated that he he does not know if there was any conspiracy to ensure that the song never enjoyed airwaves, but he was aware that the song could have hit some nerves of certain people. Falz added that his lawyers will be investigating why his song was banned.

“I do not know if the fact that some group wanted me to retract the song is linked with this new development but I know that there were a lot of messages in the song and it is hitting a lot of people in the wrong places and that is what is making them react in that manner. However, there was absolutely no basis for the NBC to ban that song. I am going to have to write to them through my lawyers to find out what is really going on. When I find out the reason behind the ban, I could ask them to lift it if need be and if they do not adhere to my request, I might have to seek legal redress,” he said.

The board of trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing to meet with all presidential aspirants of the party, to discuss the possibility of picking a consensus candidate for the 2019 elections.

Chairman of the BoT, Walid Jibrin, disclosed this at a news conference in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Jibrin said if the aspirants do not agree on a consensus candidate, the party will be left with no choice than to conduct a primary.

“Efforts are on ground by BoT to bring all the PDP presidential aspirants together to consider how best they should accept one of them to stand, realising that despite their number, only one person will emerge as a candidate during the primaries and also only one person will emerge as the president of Nigeria,” he said.

“We have men and women of honour in the BoT that will never sell their conscience, and ensure that the best will come out of the presidential aspirant without fear and favour.

“I urge all organs of the party to partner with BoT in this respect. I call on all members of PDP to remain calm and resolute by remaining unshaken with the belief that PDP will take over government at the federal and states with majority of our members in national assembly and state assemblies,” he said.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, Ahmed Makarfi, ex-chairman of the PDP, are among the presidential aspirants of the party.

Senate President Bukola Saraki says he is not desperate to stay in office. However, a condition has to be met: his removal must be by two-thirds majority of the upper chamber.

Saraki said this on Wednesday while addressing a ‘World press Conference’ on Tuesday’s siege to the National Assembly by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Senate President defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July, sparking calls for his resignation/impeachment by the ruling party.

“The day two-thirds of our members no longer have confidence in us, we will leave this place,” Saraki said as he wound up his speech.

Campaign posters of Reverend King who is currently incarcerated in prison after being sentenced to death by hanging – have began to flood the streets.

The convicted prisoner is said to be running for the presidency in the 2109 election under the platform of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA).

The General Overseer of Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), was was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.

He was sentenced to death by hanging in 2007 by Justice Joseph Oyewole at a Lagos High Court tried for murder of a church member, Ann Uzoh.

The judgement was upheld by the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division and finally affirmed by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court in 2016.

But according to a Brazil-based church leader, Rt Rev Ernest King, many Nigerians have been going to the prison in Sokoto to mount pressure on Rev King to come and contest and deliver the country.

According to a report by Newsmakers in February (during Rev. King’s birthday celebration), Ernest King said:

“This is the man that has solution for Nigeria. He prophesied about Nigeria’s case 18 years ago, that the country will come to a stage where there will be no solution. He said that he would be somewhere resting and they would bring the issue of Nigeria to him for him to solve for them.

“That was how they went to the prison about two months ago pleading that he should come and take over Nigeria. He had prophesied this 18 years ago.

“If Rev King should be allowed to handle Nigeria under 5 years, Nigeria will be one of the best countries in the world.”

He added:

“This is the man that has solution to every problem on Earth, but Nigerians don’t know what God gave them. The wicked and occult people want to kill him, but it’s impossible. As he told them in the Court on that day, there’s no rope on Earth that can enter Rev King’s head.”

Some days ago, former P-Square manager, Jude Okoye, revealed that his first nights in Lagos were spent under a bridge.

Giving further details to Sunday Scoop, Okoye said, “I had my first album done in Jos in 1995 and all the friends around me told me that it was good and record labels would pay me good money for it. As a result of that, I took a flight of N2000 from Jos to Lagos in search of a record label that would pay me for the album. I went with two empty Ghana-must-go bags because I expected that they would pay me a lot of money.

Even though I didn’t know anybody there, I went to Ivory Music to see the talent manager. But when I got to the company, they told me that he was on leave and I would have to come back the next week. That’s when reality dawned on me because I hadn’t planned on how I was going to get back to Jos. From there, I went to the Ijora motor park hoping to take a bus back to Jos. On getting there, I found out that the bus fare was N600. I didn’t have that money so I ended up sleeping under the bridge. Being that my mother was a prophetess in Jos; once in a while, I ran into people who knew her and they gave me some money.

From there, I was able to get an attachment bus ticket, which meant I had to stand all through the trip from Lagos to Jos. After that experience, I still went back to Ivory Music two months after. It was then I met Zaaki Azzay and he shared his experience with me. The songs on my album were purely hip hop and he advised me to infuse some Nigerian flavour into it to make it more marketable.

When I eventually met the talent manager, a certain Mr. Morgan, he collected the tape and told me to come back in two weeks’ time. Meanwhile, I didn’t have a place to stay for that period so I had to squat at Bright Chimezie’s boys’ quarters with his friends at Ogba area of the state. When I went back to Mr. Morgan after two weeks, he didn’t recognise me. At that point, I was frustrated and I told them to give me back my tape. Still, I didn’t give up and I released my songs in Jos.

I became a local champion because the songs were popular then. From there, I decided that maybe a music career wasn’t meant for me and I focused on my kid brothers. Then, they were just dancers and weren’t known as P-Square. I wouldn’t say I sacrificed my career for them because it wasn’t working for me anyway.”

Continuing, he said, “At a point, I also went into Nollywood and I worked with people such as Jim Iyke and Ramsey Nouah. P-Square even made cameo appearances in some of my movies then.”

Stating that he is not ready to sign any artistes for now, Jude said, “Signing artistes is what every established entertainment entity should be doing. However, the calibre of up and coming artistes that we have today are just after being famous. They don’t even want to know whether they have what it takes to stand the test of time or not; they just want the money. Nobody wants to pay the price. I’m not saying that everybody should go through what I went through but there is a price to pay. But people just want to jump into the studio and buy big houses and cars. They then go on social media to rubbish the efforts of the people that helped them. Those are the things that discourage people. For someone like me with the reputation I’ve built, I don’t think I would let any up and coming artiste mess me up. I am not ready to sign any artiste for now.”

On whether he has hopes for a P-Square reconciliation, Okoye said, “I don’t want to talk about that. I have not made any comment on that in years and that is my decision.”

Commenting on the deal he signed with his former artiste, Cynthia Morgan, Okoye said, “I really don’t want to talk about anything that is behind me. I signed her and when her deal expired, we all went our separate ways.”

Speaking on his current projects, he said, “What I am doing now has nothing to do with entertainment. I am going to live and die in entertainment so I am not leaving the industry but the mistake I made was to make entertainment my major source of livelihood. Now, I am trying to change that.”

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has clarified reports making the rounds of its exclusion of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from the presidential race.

The National Publiccity Secretary of the Party, Kola Ologbobiyan said Atiku was still part of candidates being considered for the party’s presidential ticket.

Ologboniyan disclosed this on Twitter while responding to a tweet.

According to him, no one will be stopped from contesting for the presidential ticket.

He wrote: “Atiku excluded from the Presidential race -this is a misleading story/tweet.

“Everyone and anyone in our great party is free to contest any position he/she deems fit.”

After 24 hours that the office of the impeached Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, had been locked, policemen attached to the state Government House, Owerri, on Thursday evening unlocked it, Punch has revealed.

This is coming even as the aides of the impeached Deputy Governor had continued to attend to work.

The office was still locked on Wednesday but when Punch visited the office located on Imo State High Court Road on Thursday evening, it has been unlocked.

A journalist attached to the office of the impeached deputy governor, Iheanyi Enwerem, confirmed to our correspondent that the office had been unlocked.

According to him, some policemen locked it on Wednesday, but they unlocked it on Thursday.

He told our correspondent that the impeached Deputy Governor had not visited his office since the state lawmakers purportedly removed him from office despite a court order.

Madumere had, through his media aide, on Wednesday insisted that he was still the deputy governor of the state.

Madumere argued that there was no proof from point of law to ascertain that he had been impeached.

He said his removal from office hours after an Owerri High Court presided over by Justice Benjamin Iheaka gave an order stopping further proceedings on his impeachment until the matter was determined by court was not known by law.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has criticised the Senate President’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party. The minister said that the ruling party has gained nothing from the office of the Senate President.

“APC gained nothing from his office as the Senate President under the ruling party and will lose nothing through his defection”, said the minister

His comment comes after the Senate President disclosed that his reason for leaving the party was due to lack of peace, dialogue and cooperation with the party. [READ HERE]

The Senate President said that the APC has done everything to ensure that the basic rules of party administration, which should promote harmonious relations within the party were disregarded.

The information minister, however, rejected Saraki’s criticism of the party and the Federal Government rather blamed him (Saraki) for the delays in budget and appointments.

“This present administration would have done better under a Senate president under an opposition but instead has suffered more, through delays in budgets and appointments masterminded by the Senate President”, the minister noted.

He promised to ensure that the ruling party remains stronger with genuine members on board as he alleged that the entire leadership of the PDP in Kwara have moved over to the APC.

He further described all other defections as a storm in a ‘teacup’ and insisted that the President has no hand in the Benue saga.
