The House of representatives ad-hoc committee, Tuesday summoned former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele and former Accountant-General of the Federation, Jonah Otunla to appear next week Monday to explain their involvement in the alleged misappropriation of the pension funds.

The committee believed in its wisdom that not only the fugitive Abdulrasheed Maina should be held accountable but all those who participated in the then Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform. And it was even alleged that about N2 billion naira was squandered by the team.

This was predicated on the basic idea that the team was constituted to track stolen public fund and should be regulated by the principle of collective responsibility.

The investigation was meant to cover the periods from 2010 to 2013 and activities of the other successor agencies.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Anayo Nnebe said it would be unacceptable for the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, to claim that there was no recoveries made in the period under review and asked them to come with comprehensive reports of recoveries so far made.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he does not rush to visit violence-hit states, because he prefers to monitor developments first.

Buhari stated this while speaking in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, during his visit to assess the situation.

No fewer than 200 people are believed to have been killed in communal disputes and herders/farmers clashes in the state.

The local government areas worst hit by the herdsmen/farmers crisis are: Lau, Ibi, Gassol, Bali, Wukari, Takum and Sardauna, where scores were killed in renewed violence at the weekend.

“I am here (Taraba) to meet with the leadership of the state, to offer my condolences to those who lost loved ones and properties in violence.

“People, sometimes expect me to rush out to the fields, to go and make noise.

“But I have my ways of gathering intelligence. I get to know what is happening across the country without necessarily going to those areas.

“I will be going to Benue and Zamfara after I return from Ghana to also condole with the people,” Buhari said.

A show promoter based in Barcelona, Oluwatosin Oketumo, popularly called T-Cash, has claimed that his life is in danger after a show which was supposed to feature Rapper, Olamide flopped.

The show promoter said he contacted Olamide through his tour manager, Alex Ozone and they had an agreement of €8,500 to have the artiste perform at the event in Barcelona.

However, he gave Olamide’s camp €4,000 and he did not show up for the performance.

According to him, this had brought death threats to him as people are posting his picture with the caption RIP.

He told Punch, “The name of my outfit is T-Cash International Promotion and I am based in Barcelona.

I had a deal of €8,500 with O3 Media, Alex Ozone who is Olamide’s tour manager but I was unable to meet up with the whole money as of the time of the event.

“The initial agreement was that I was going to pay for the flight ticket and hotel reservation of five people from Prague, the Czech Republic to Barcelona, at the end of the day, I was told to add two more people to the list making it a total of seven people. I did not object.

“They were supposed to arrive on Friday but I booked the ticket a day before so that we could have a massive publicity for the show.

At the end of the day, the turnout was not as massive as I expected but I was able to gather €3,000.

With that money, I went to the hotel to talk to Ozone to plead with him to have €3,000 and I promised I would give them the full payment after the show.

” At the end of the day, they collected €3,000 plus the €1,000 I had given them earlier.

After I had begged, he said that he went to talk to Olamide and the singer said that he would not perform if his fee was not complete, and that’s how everything went wrong and they left Barcelona.

“Olamide was in his room and they did not allow me to talk to him. By the time I went to the venue to talk to the crowd, people had scattered everywhere and before I got back to the hotel, they had already taken a cab to the airport and travelled to Germany.

I have been trying to reach them but they are not saying anything and people have begun to rubbish my name.

“Some people have been saying that they paid me and I absconded with their money but it is a lie.

No one contributed a dime for me to stage this show. It was just me and three of my friends that came together to make it happen.

“Now I am trying to reach them to ask for my €4,000, even though I know I may not get the refund for the tickets I bought.

Right now, I am facing a lot in Barcelona just because Olamide did not perform as I promised.

Many people are writing nasty things about me with some posting my picture and writing Rest In Peace on it.

My life is in danger as I am being threatened constantly.

I am facing a lot right now just because of the show and it is also spoiling my business. I contacted Olamide through Ozone because he is his tour manager.

I am not thinking of taking legal action but I just want them to return my money and I would know how to sort the mess out,”
When contacted, Olamide’s tour manager, Ozone said that they had a contract prior to the show but T-cash did not meet up his end of the bargain.

“Did he tell you we had a contract prior to the concert?

“He didn’t meet up, that’s why I didn’t allow Olamide to perform.

So how would I have got the balance, he didn’t pay as agreed, so we had to leave.

“The contract stated that he would pay €8,500 and provide flights and accommodation for five people.

“I have a right to sue him for breach of our contract, the dude made me lose €5,000 for that show.

“He did a live video on his Facebook page where he even apologised for using me,” Ozone said.

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has been appointed as head of a team of observers to Sierra Leone’s general election scheduled to take place on March 7, 2018.

He will serve as leader of the Election Observation Mission of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).

Jonathan left Nigeria for Freetown on Friday.

A statement by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, announced the appointment.

It said the mission has observers drawn from civil society organisations and election management bodies from across the continent.

Eze stated that the former president “is pleased to be part of the process in support of a peaceful and transparent election in Sierra Leone.”

EISA is a not-for-profit election-focused organization that is working with national, regional, Pan-African and global partners throughout the African continent.

It is based in South Africa with field offices across the continent and has supported or observed over 100 electoral and political processes in Africa.

Its assignment in Sierra Leone is in line with the organisation’s “vision of an African continent where democratic governance, human rights and citizen participation are upheld in a peaceful environment.”

The match was to raise awareness against cancer and the ladies showed up to show their support and so did the men.

Renewed cult clash has claimed two lives in Cross River State.

One each died in Calabar south and Calabar Municipal.

MC EBISCO gathered that the killing was done on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

An eyewitness who gave his name simply as George told our correspondent on Sunday that “two young men were killed in the renewed cult clash between two rivalry cult groups in Calabar on Saturday and Sunday.

“One was killed at Nyahasang close to a transformer (Calabar Municipal) while the other was killed at Dr Dean in Mbukpa in Calabar South local government area.”

He further said that the Nyahasang incident occurred on Sunday morning while the Dr Dean incident occurred on Saturday by 7pm.

When our correspondent called the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo, she did not pick calls, neither did she respond to text message.

But a reliable Police source who pleaded that his name should not be mentioned said that three young men had been arrested with machetes and a locally made pistol by Mbukpa Police station.

“The two cult groups are Klans and . Somebody from Klans killed an Axe man on Saturday and this morning there was a reprisal from ,” he stated.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Saturday, said it had secured a judgment in a court in the United States of America against Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu, over human rights violations of IPOB members.

The spokesperson for IPOB, Emma Powerful, accused some Igbo leaders of trying to sabotage the Biafra cause in order to please the Federal Government.

The statement partly read, “Ikpeazu was recently indicted by a US court for his role in the murder of innocent IPOB family members in Abia State.

“Also answering to this charge of mass murder is the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai; Obiano and others whose case is presently ongoing in a US District Court in Washington DC. The trial is in connection with their roles in the mass murder of IPOB members in Abia, Anambra and Enugu states.

“The Federal Government, out of desperation to divert attention from relentless criticisms of its role in the massacre of indigenes of Abia State in cold blood, and the invasion of the home of our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, which Okezie Ikpeazu and Nnia Nwodo played a major role, quickly decided to use the media to launch a counter attack to neutralise the adverse publicity their actions were generating.

Reacting to IPOB’s statement, Obiano’s media aide, Oliver Okpala, described IPOB’s claim of securing a judgment against Obiano as laughable.

He insisted that IPOB remained a proscribed organisation.

Okpala said IPOB should find a way to remove the toga of proscription by approaching a Nigerian court to that effect.

There is serious tension in Abraka Community in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State over alleged killing of a 56-year-old farmer, Mr. Happy Akpomiemie by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

It was learnt that the killer herdsmen also shot and seriously injured the 36-year-old wife of the farmer, Mrs. Patience Akpomiemie in the farm.

Their sixteen year old son, Elvis who was at the farm when Fulani herdsmen attacked, managed to escape and broke out the news to the community.

It was gathered that Mrs. Akpomiemie was referred by the General Hospital in Abraka to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara where she is currently receiving treatment.

Narrating the ugly incident to the community, Elvis said he was at the cassava farm with his father and mother on Wednesday when they saw many cows and herdsmen heading towards their direction.

He said they became very apprehensive as they were rounded up by the gun wielding herdsmen.

Elvis stated that his father asked him to escape and as he began to run, his mother, Patience Akpomiemie followed.

Elvis claimed several gun shots were fired at his mother by the Fulani herdsmen.

Elvis further claimed that he managed to escape lying in the bush from 4pm till 10pm when he managed to broke out the news to the community.

His mother mother, Patience also escaped with serious gun shot injuries scattering her thighs.

Meanwhile, the member representing the people of Ethiope-East constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Evance Ochuko Ivwurie has reacted to the development, describing it as the “saddest day” for the people of Ethiope-East Local Government Area.

The lawmaker said, “I am personally fed up with this Fulani herdsmen politics our President and political elites of the country are playing.”

He said President Muhammadu Buhari and some politicians in the country had failed to address and take solid measures to stop the killings.

Hon. Ivwurie stated that the people had decided to resort to self help since the government had failed them.

Nigerian singer Banky W is on the verge of restructuring the music label he co-founded Empire Mate Entertainment (EME). According to Banky the record label had been dissolved since January 2017, as it is to venture into other business platform.

Banky w said that EME's business venture will now be marketing, advertising, public relations, branding, shooting of television commercials and documentaries. It will also continue to produce and make music as it is not shutting down that aspect entirely.

Eme has operated for nine years and it could be said it has been successful as it has found and nurture many great stars today. EME was once home to Wizkid, Skales, Niyola and Shaydee.

Speaking on an interview, Banky W named DJ Xclusive, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Tolu 'Toolz' Oniru, and Adesua Etomi as the first set of clients of the rebranded company.

The wedding party star said

“Essentially we have restructured our business and instead of operating just as a record label, we have expanded and changed our focus a bit.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered that the missing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, be separately tried from the rest of his co-defendants.

Justice Binta Nyako made the order following an oral application by the lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Shuaibu Labaran, who noted that Kanu’s continued absence from court since he was granted bail in April 2017 “has frustrated progress in the case.”

“In the circumstance, the prosecution shall be asking for the indulgence of your lordship to separate the trial so that progress can be made in this matter,” Labaran said.

Other defence lawyers did not oppose the application.

Kanu, who, alongside his co-defendants, is being prosecuted on five counts bordering on treasonable felony, among other charges, was absent from court on Tuesday.

He had not been seen since September 22, 2017 when his team of lawyers and family declared him missing after soldiers allegedly invaded his home in Abia State during a military operation staged by the Nigerian Army to quell the secessionist activities of IPOB in the South-East zone of the country.

But the rest of his co-defendants were produced in court by prison officials for Tuesday’s proceedings.

The IPOB leader’s co-defendants are the National Coordinator of IPOB, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe; an IPOB member, Benjamin Madubugwu; and a former Field Maintenance Engineer seconded to the telecommunication company, MTN, David Nwawuisi.

Ruling on the application for separate trials on Tuesday, the judge held that she agreed with the prosecution that there was the need to severe the trial of Kanu from that of others in order “to meet the justice of the case.”

Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone has dismissed reports circulating on Monday on social media claiming that he is dead.

A message had appeared on Facebook claiming Stallone had been found dead at his Los Angeles home.

Stallone who took to his twitter handle to debunk the reports expressed sadness over the death prank which emanated from a site notorious for sharing celebrity death hoaxes.

He said: “Please ignore the stupidity,” the 71-year-old actor tweeted on Monday. “Alive and well and happy and healthy…Still punching!”

Stallone also dismissed images which depicted that he was suffering from an illness, prompting him to lose his hair, pointing out that the photos are most likely are from a scene he had filmed.

His younger brother Frank Stallone also took to social media where he slammed the hurtful gossip.

“Rumors that my brother is dead are false,” the 67-year-old tweeted Monday.

“What kind of sick demented cruel mind thinks of things like this to post? People like this are mentally deranged and don’t deserve a place in society.”

Report of his death began to circulate on social media over the weekend claiming the “Rocky” star had died after battling prostate cancer.

Bewildered Twitter users began to immediately ask if the actor had really died or if he was just the victim of another cruel joke.

This isn’t the first time Stallone has been the subject of a death hoax.

A UK-based news site had circulated rumours of his death back in 2016, prompting Stallone to upload a photo of himself with Russian boxer Sergey Kovalev on Instagram.

The same site had previously claimed the likes of Vin Diesel, Jaden Smith, Angelina Jolie, Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey and John Cena had all died.

The Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has expressed disappointment over frequent armed banditry in the state, saying he “felt let down” the killings have escalated under the Buhari administration.

In the latest onslaught on Wednesday night, at least 39 persons were killed in Zurmi local government area of the state.

Mr Yari, who is the chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, alleged that the state government had alerted security agencies on the impending invasion of communities by bandits.

Speaking Friday evening when he led five Northern Governors on a sympathy visit to the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Mr Yari said security agencies in the area have failed to tackle the problem of cross-border banditry and terrorism bedevilling communities in the area.

“Whatever humanly possible that needed to be done, we as a government have done to mitigate this disaster. But it does appear that security agencies are failing in their responsibilities.

“I feel let down facing the people of this state whenever I remember the promise I made to them that when they elect President Muhammadu Buhari into power, these killings will end. But unfortunately, things are now getting worse.

“As such, I urge you security agencies to up the ante so as not to lose this war. If you let us take issues on our hands, anarchy will reign which is not what we hope us.

“On this particular incident, we had intelligence reports 24 hours before it happened that the bandits were grouping and ready to attack.

“I alerted the security agencies but unfortunately they sent inadequate personnel to confront these people from where they came from,” he said.

In his remarks, the Emir of Zurmi, Atiku Abubakar, echoed Mr Yari’s lamentations, saying the bravery of vigilante groups who confronted the bandits, had reduced the casualty figures.

Giving insight into what really happened, the Emir alleged that 600 bandits made attempt to invade Zurmi but were repelled by vigilantes.

“They came on 200 motorcycles with three persons on each bike. Each of them was well-armed. We stationed 500 vigilante members who stood their ground and gallantly fought the bandits. Unfortunately, these same bandits turned their anger on travelers and other villagers on their way here, that was why we had 39 people killed.

“Thes terrorists are known to us. Their major hide-out is in a village called Kagara, very close to Bafarawa in Sokoto State, and a few kilometers from Shinkafi in Zamfara State. But despite several appeal to security agencies to storm the area, our appeals have failed.

“I need to state here that majority of weapons used by bad people in this country are brought in from this area. I had reason to personally inform Zamfara State Director of SSS sometimes back of a large cache of weapons being brought into the country but no concrete action was taken until the containers were moved away.

“I am happy that other Northern Governors are here because we believe the solution to this problem lies in cooperation among all of you.

“I don’t need to repeat here that we need a full battalion of soldiers here and in areas surrounding Maru, Maradun, Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs,” the visibly angry Emir said.

He added that the people have been pushed to the limit and a negative reaction from them will have devastating consequence on the continued peaceful coexistence of all communities in the area.

In his remarks, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno appealed to the people not to lose patience. He sympathized with the victims and prayed to God to grant the deceased eternal rest.

In addition to Messrs Shettima and Yari, other governors on the entourage were Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi and Umar Al-Makura of Nassarawa States.,

President Muhammadu Buhari will Saturday afternoon meet All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains at his country home in Daura, Katsina State.

Among those expected are APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Others are current APC national chairman, John Oyegun and former national interim national chairman, Bisi Akande.

The official agenda visit is to commiserate with the President who recently lost two members of his extended family in Daura.

However, the gathering is expected to discuss party issues as well as 2019 election.

Tinubu is leading the Buhari committee on consultation, reconciliation and confidence building meant to improve unity within the APC.

The president yesterday received the party’s governors.

They included the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum and Zamfara Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari; Rochas Okorocha (Imo); Abubakar Muhammed (Bauchi); Kashim Shettima (Borno); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Aminu Masari (Katsina) and Malam Nasir El-Rufa’I of Kaduna State.

Others were Gov. Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano); Godwin Obaseki of Edo; Yahaya Bello (Kogi); Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Abubakar Sani-Bello (Niger) and Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, while the governors of Benue, Osun and Ogun were represented by their deputies.

The governors of Benue, Ogun and Osun were represented by their deputies, while Yobe and Plateau were also represented by top government officials at the meeting.

While at the slavery museum in Badagry with some young people, they were made aware of the history of Nigeria and how Nigerians were sold into slavery. After the history lessons, the actress called on young people to free themselves from the modern form of slavery which she says is mental.

Daddy freeze responding to a comment made by D’banj that what the tithe money is used for is not any body’s business says it concerns everybody because it their money.

He further said that looking at the population of Nigeria which is said to be in a region less than 200 million has a total of 82.8million people living in extreme poverty, far more than India with a population of 1.3billion which has only 81.5 million poor people.

Daddy freeze said that even with this current poverty rate, Nigeria boost of the richest pastors in the world, having a total of five pastors among the top ten richest pastors in the world according to Forbes magazine.

The OAP also said that we are made to discard the laws of Moses yet forced to pay tithe that at such it is wrong. If we are the followers of Christ then we should do what Jesus Christ did rather than keep only one law from Moses and discard the rest, stating that it is a sin “For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

There is palpable tension in Delta State following the alleged killing one member of Aladja community by armed Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba youths at about 9:30am on Tuesday morning, DAILY POST reports.

MC EBISCO reports that three other persons were injured in the ensuing gun battle among the youths.

The cause of the latest attacks by the armed youths is not unconnected with the land dispute between the two communities.

Consequently, Parents have withdrawn their children from school as a result of the attacks while the Egweya (women group) blocked the entrance to Aladja community due to sporadic gun shots.

Former President of Aladja community council, Hon. Tabuko Kabedje who was spotted rushing one of the injured victims to the hospital, confirmed the report to Our Delta State correspondent, saying,” I cannot see or talk to you now. Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba are attacking us.”

Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka did not respond to calls put across to his mobile phone but the shooting is still ongoing.

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Trade and Investment, Mrs Jumoke Oduwole, has explained how the Buhari-led administration used a systemic approach to make Nigeria’s economy competitive.

She said that the strategic plan initiated by the Federal Government upon assuming office in 2015 led to the improvement in the country’s global business index.

Oduwole explained that this involves a collaboration of some ministers, some lawmakers, the Head of Civil Service and the private sector.

The presidential aide, who was as a guest on Channels Television’s Breakfast Programme, Sunrise Daily, on Monday said: “this administration has had a systemic approach to making this economy competitive.

“We have been 145 before, we started from 106 then last decade we went on a free fall consistently going backwards.

“When this administration came in 2015, we started immediately on this project and we were able to stem the tide.

“The first thing was that we stopped going backward, then we had a systemic approach chaired by the presidency. And that political will, with coordination of over 10 ministers, Central Bank Governor, Head of Civil Service and then later, high-level National Assembly representation, Lagos and Kano states and of course private sector made the economy competitive,” she added.

She recalled that Nigeria was judged the top 10 economies in the world on the ease of doing business last year and attributed the feat to the sincerity and commitment shown by the presidency.

According to her, “statistics show an improvement of the country’s ranking 24 positions up as against the previous position of 169 to 145 which is an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari is sincere with the economic recovery.”

Suspected herdsmen have allegedly killed a father of two, Olayemi Tunde, 32, in Ipao, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

He was killed Saturday afternoon while he was returning from his farm.

It was gathered that Olayemi, a commercial motorbike driver, who has a farm in the settlement in Ipao Ekiti had gone to his farm to harvest some cassava when he met his death.

The tragic incident has thrown the town into confusion as palpable fear has gripped residents.

Narrating how the incident happened, Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area, Mrs. Abiola Ajayi, who briefed newsmen on the tragic development said: “The deceased was an Okada man who has a farm in the settlement. He had gone to his farm to harvest some cassava.

“He was with one other person. They were heading back to town from the farm and have loaded the motorbike with cassava when they saw some Fulani herdsmen coming towards them.

“The two of them were said to have been surprised at seeing the herdsmen. They said it was at that point the herdsmen brought out their gun and the two of the farmers had to run for their life.

“The Bororos were said to have pursued the two men and eventually got Olayemi who they massacred like a cow.

“We have reported the matter to the nearest police station and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has since swung into action and sent two vehicles and they have gone to the scene of the murder to take the corpse and also commence investigation,” she said.

Head of the local hunters in the community, sounded very angry on the development.

Adebayo Odeyemi said the hunters had declared war on the herdsmen and would not allow such development to be repeated.

“We have not attacked any herdsman but they have killed one now and right now we will ensure they are not allowed to do this again.

“We are valiant men not cowards and we will face them this time around. They have massacred one of us mercilessly and this won’t happen again,”‎ he said.
