PoliticsBuhari: I Was Detained For 3years For Fighting Corruption by 2Ebisco(op): 11:16pm On May 15, 2018
Senator Iroegbu in Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday vowed to sustain his administration’s anti-corruption war despite the fact that he was detained for three years when he attempted to tackle the problem as military head of state.

Buhari gave this assurance while commissioning the new headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

The President, who recounted how he was jailed for three years after his military regime was overthrown, said corruption successfully defeated him at the first attempt.

Buhari, whose military regime jailed several Second Republic politicians for corruption, was overthrown in a palace coup that brought the then Chief of Army Staff, General Ibrahim Babangida, to power. He was then placed under house arrest for several months.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony Tuesday, he said he would not bow to any form of pressure in his second attempt to tackle corruption in the country.

He said: “My first attempt to fight corruption, corruption fought back successfully. I was detained for three years and only released after my mother died. In spite of that, my objective of fighting corruption remains steadfast.

“War on corruption is not an easy one to fight, because it affects so many different branches of our lives, so much that some people do not even consider breaking trust is anymore a crime. It has become the norm. That is why we must fight this attitude and encourage Nigerians to change their attitudes and perspectives.”

Buhari said throughout his journey in national service and since 2015, he had made a very conscious decision to pursue a vigorous fight against corruption in public life.

He, however, noted that the fight would not be successful without the support of the legislature and judiciary.

The President expressed hope and expectation that the judiciary, which is a critical stakeholder and partner in the war against corruption, would continue to collaborate with the Executive to bring corrupt people to book.

He also called on the Legislature, which provides the legal framework for the anti-corruption war to support the determination of government to rid the nation of the brazen corruption witnessed in recent years, through a review of archaic provisions in the relevant laws.

“I call on the Judiciary and the National Assembly to join hands in this national effort,” he appealed.

The President said that since 2015, his administration had made significant progress in the fight against corruption.

He said anti corruption agencies “have recovered and are still recovering trillions of naira that were stolen in the past few years by people without conscience”.

Speaking further, Buhari said: “Everyone now knows that corrupt officials will be held to account, no matter how long it takes.

“We are pursuing recoveries everywhere and are making sure that anyone who has been found culpable is made to answer for his or her crime under the law.”

Buhari said the goal of his administration was to ensure the protection of public trust, adding that the anti-corruption war is at the centre of that goal.

Debunking claims of persecution, Buhari said “(We) never intended, and we are not engaged in witch-hunts, but we are determined within the laws to call people to account”.

The President called on Nigerians to support agencies like EFCC, adding that fighting corruption is everyone’s concern.

He also noted that quite a number of nations were signifying interest to help tighten their laws and enter into agreements with Nigeria to repatriate, not only stolen funds, but to make the culprits face the law.

He said his government was committed to working with foreign friends to stop the flow of stolen funds from Nigeria into their countries and to recover money already looted.

He said these assets, when repatriated, would be used to build infrastructure.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, in his goodwill message at the ceremony, debunked the picture being painted that “Nigeria is fantastically corrupt” except President Buhari.

Dogara said that the President was not the only corrupt-free Nigerians, adding that there are millions of hardworking and committed citizens equally passionate about the anti-corruption drive.

“Mr. President is not alone in this, he is not the only corrupt-free Nigerian. There are millions of Nigerians who are not corrupt,” he said.

The speaker while commending the President and EFCC for the new headquarters, called for further training of staff and improvement in their welfare packages so as to shield them from “temptations”.

Earlier, the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, said the building was both historic and a mark of legacy for generations to come.

Magu explained that in the fight against corruption, the increasing cost of economic crime made it inevitable to expand their scope of operations.

“What we have here today is a world class edifice that can stand side by side with the best in the world. The office complex is built to accommodate 700 staff with a fully equipped forensic laboratory and medical centre,” he explained.

Magu further said, “there is no hiding place for corrupt officials”, adding that the agency under his leadership has secured 486 convictions including that of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

He said the commission had also recovered over N500 billion with a promise to intensify the fight against corruption.

PoliticsAPC Came To Power Unprepared – Lamido by 2Ebisco(op): 11:08am On May 14, 2018
Former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress as a party of deceit, lies and people who were unprepared for governance.

Lamido, who is a Presidential Aspirant of the PDP in the 2019 general elections, stated this at a reception held in honour of the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Senator Babayo Gamawa yesterday at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall, Bauchi.

He stated that hunger and poverty has increased in the last three years that the APC has been in power.

According to him, “During the PDP’s regime, there was work and no hunger, there was peace. Buhari said the PDP are thieves, he said we in PDP are Boko Haram, he said in 16 years, PDP did nothing, they said we are a disaster and they voted us out of power and he (Buhari) took over power. Is there no hunger now? Is there no more Boko Haram? It is now left for you to compare and contrast.

He added that “We were in power for 16 years; APC came into power and have done nothing but are enjoying what the PDP did. PDP built the EFCC Headquarters and they are claiming that they built it. They can only claim it because they came unprepared.” He urged the party members to preach peace wherever they are.

In his speech, the celebrant, Senator Gamawa, stated that the PDP while in power did all it could to ameliorate the sufferings of the masses and improve their standards of living.

“When we were in power, there was no poverty in the land, the standard of living was low, people built houses, bought cars, going for pilgrimages but the case is different now,” he stated.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, represented by the National Vice Chairman 1, Elder Yemi Akinwunmi, in an address said there would be no more imposition of candidates, no thuggery, no manipulation but only popular candidates will be elected as flag-bearers urging aspirants to shun violence in their campaigns.

He described the Deputy National Chairman as a honest, dependable and reliable person.

PoliticsI Never Refused To Honour Senate’s Invitation, Says IG by 2Ebisco(op): 6:41am On May 14, 2018
The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, yesterday said there was never a time he turned down the invitation of the Senate.

He said he has always had high regard for the Senate as an institution, adding that there was never a time he was invited and he refused to honour the invitation.

Idris, who made this known last Saturday night in Kano in an interview with a local radio station, Dala FM, said he had no cause to refuse to answer the call of the Senate if the issue has to do with the national interest.

According to him, “I have high regard for the Senate as an institution, because there has never been a time I was invited that I refused to honour any invitation.”

Idris noted that he places Senate in high esteem and would never refuse to honour its invitation.

He said the invitation of the Senate, according to the letter sent to him, was on Senator Dino Melaye’s case which is currently before a court, adding that discussing such would amount to prejudice and contempt.

The IG explained that since assumption of office in June 2016, he had appeared 10 times before the Senate on different issues of national importance, noting that he holds the lawmakers in high esteem.

Idris explained that the upper legislative chamber had refused the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of operation audience, which would have enabled the senators to understand reasons for not being around when he was invited on April 26.

“The recent claim by the Senate that the reason for inviting me was to brief them on the recent killings in some part of the country could be an afterthought which can be seen from the headings of their invitation letters,” he explained.

The Senate at the plenary recently declared the IG as an enemy of democracy and unfit to hold public office for failing to honour its invitations three times.

On the spate of killings in the country, Idris said new area commands had been created in some volatile environments, with the deployment of additional policemen to Zamfara, Birnin Gwari in Kaduna, Benue and Taraba States.

Also, he said the mop up exercise of prohibited arms and weapons across the country has led to the recovery of over 5,000 prohibited arms from wrong hands.

According to him, “It is a continuous operation as those in possession of such arms will be prosecuted after the expiration of the window created for voluntary submission of illegal weapons.”

PoliticsAPGA Uncovers ‘plot By PDP’ In Abia To Parade Fake Members As Decampees by 2Ebisco(op): 8:21pm On May 13, 2018
The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in Umuahia south local government area of Abia state on Sunday said it has uncovered a plan by some group of persons to make a media show on Monday as APGA members, decamping to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

APGA stated this in a statement issued by the chairman of the party in Umuahia south local government area, Mr. Omerenma Ogbonna and made available to newsmen on Sunday evening.

The statement quoted the party as saying that the move is a cooked up plan to dissuade and discourage its teeming members and supporters in Umuahia south local government who are craving for change.

The statement advised all APGA faithful not to be discouraged by the people it described as paid agents who subjected Abians to untold hardship.

Parts of the statement reads, “It has been known that some group of persons who have not been in APGA nor aligned themselves with APGA in Umuahia south chapter before, are planning to make the media glow tomorrow, Monday, May 14, 2018 as APGA members decamping to PDP in Ubakala Umuahia south local government during the visit of the State PDP Chairman to Umuahia south.

“All APGA faithfuls should not be discouraged by these paid agents who will parade themselves as APGA members decamping to PDP on Monday at Apumiri Ubakala.

“It is a cooked up plan to dissuade and discourage our teeming APGA members and supporters in Umuahia south local government who are craving for change.

“It is now an undisputable truism that Umuahia south is now the base of concentration because of the blunt refusal of the APGA leader in Umuahia south to join the ruling party in the state after all undue persuasions from many angles.

“It is obvious that more like this in forms of vendetta, calumnies, blasphemies, innuendos and many types of confrontational mechanisms should be expected by the ruling party in Umuahia south before, during and after the 2019 general elections.

“There is hunger in the land caused by the same people who have resorted to gimmicks and games just to tarnish the ideology of APGA and discourage members.”

PoliticsHow Ekiti PDP Primary Was Won And Lost by 2Ebisco(op): 4:01am On May 13, 2018
In this report, Victor Ogunje provides an insight into some of the intrigues and horse-trading that typified the outcome of the Peoples Democratic Party primary election in Ekiti State

In a highly pulsating and keenly contested primary, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof Kolapo Olusola, on Tuesday, May 9 emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the July 14 governorship election in the state. In the election conducted under heavy security, he garnered a total of 1,119 votes to defeat the Ex-Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who polled 771 out of 1,961 accredited delegates.

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, displayed openness and maturity in the handling of the poll that was beamed live by major electronic media in the country. The security arrangements were tight and people were frisked to the pants before gaining entry into the venue. This added credibility to the poll and differentiated it from the chaotic primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The security around the venue was tight as combined forces of the Police, men of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) cordoned off all roads leading to the Uncle Eagle Hall in Ado Ekiti.

At the counting of the vote, Fayose, who always boasted to be generalissimo of Ekiti politics, became rattled. He stood up at a time to ward off tension that had suppressed him. His countenance depicted that of a troubled person and he never expected that the victory won’t come easy.
In spite of the transparency of the primary, Adeyeye, who initially lauded the process had resigned from the PDP and promised to announce his next political journey later. However, his dissension seems to be like a lonely voice in the wilderness and his disagreement is gaining little or no traction, because many believed that the conduct of the election was praiseworthy and substantially credible.

Before the commencement of voting, Olujimi had stepped for Adeyeye to make the victory hard for the governor’s candidate, but this could not salvage the situation. The former deputy governor said she decided to collapse her structure for the former minister for the progress of the party.

“For the benefits of our party, I offer myself as a sacrificial lamb to make our party great. I am collapsing my structure for Prince Dayo Adeyeye,” she said.

While announcing the results, Okowa hailed the contestants and delegates for displaying maturity, pointing out that this had again confirmed that PDP was truly a democratic party.
He said: “By the power vested in me as the Returning Officer, I hereby return Prof Kolapo Olusola as the duly nominated gubernatorial candidate of the PDP for Ekiti State governorship election, having scored the highest number of votes cast in this election. I want to congratulate Prof Olusola for his victory. I wish him well,” Okowa said.

Tactically taunting Ekiti APC over the violence that marred its primary and rendered it nugatory, Okowa added: “If you think this exercise was not peaceful, just look back and examine what happened in the past.”

He thanked Fayose for his support, particularly for the security men and members of the panel, saying this accounted for the success of the poll. He also commended him for playing a fatherly role, urging party members to immediately bury the hatchets occasioned by the scramble for the governorship ticket and rally support for Olusola so PDP can retain Ekiti.

With this, it is expected that the outcome will be acceptable to the loser, but this seems not to happen. The outcome immediately elicited dust with Adeyeye firing from all cylinders, threatening to bring the roof down. With the way the former Minister spoke, he had ruled out the possibility of reconciliation or be receptive to rapprochement even from National Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus.

Initially, four PDP bigwigs indicated interest in the primary. They included Prof Olusola, Adeyeye, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi and the immediate past Commissioner for Justice, Owoseeni Ajayi Ajayi.

While Ajayi had quit the race long ago on the premise that he was being cautious not to ruffle feathers with his godfather, Fayose, even though the relationship between the duo, dating back to 2000, when Fayose came to Ekiti as an underdog, seems to have broken down irretrievably.

Ardent followers of Ekiti politics expected that the PDP would be more crisis-ridden than the APC in the primary, taking cognizance of the brash approach Fayose adopted in the choice of his deputy.

Before he took the decision, rumour had it that his former Commissioner for Works, Kayode Oso, who hailed from Ado Ekiti would be adopted by his political group under the acronym ‘Osoko Mass Movement (OMM.). The governor later changed the gear and picked his deputy instead.

The action didn’t go down well with the Trio of Adeyeye, Olujimi and Ajayi and they resolved to fight on, which they did. Though their fight could not avail them victory, they were able to prove a point that an individual could not dictate the choice of governor for the state.

The kind of aura around Fayose and his enigmatic posturing about the politics of the state made the results of the PDP primary looked so surprising to many people. Some thought Fayose had a very firm grip on the party and expected Adeyeye to be caged to the extent that he would be unable to garner 100 votes.

However, many factors accounted for why the primary was tension-soaked. One, Adeyeye was resolute to prove a point that he was a factor in Ekiti politics. Again, Fayose being a-no-nonsense politician wanted to prove that he had the dexterity and mass appeal among the grassroots. These divergent views created bad blood between the two camps and made the game more intriguing.

Again, a few minutes before voting commenced, Senator Olujimi stepped down for Adeyeye and commandeered his delegates to vote for him. This, of course, helped in stemming the number of contestants and narrowed down the margin between the two contenders.

Added to these was the fact that zoning being agitated by those from the Ekiti South senatorial district. This also complicated the issue. Coincidentally, the duo of Olusola and Adeyeye are from the region. But one thing worked in Olusola’s favour, he hailed from Ikere, the second most populous town in Ekiti State. The number of delegates from the local government was overwhelming and this helped in the actualisation of the hard-earned victory.

Fayose was also smart to the extent that he gave those who were in his camp in all the 16 local governments branded dress called Aso Ebi. This, by those who were opposed to the idea, was meant to isolate those that were not in the camp and the strategy worked out.

The PDP constitution also helped Olusola in no small measure. Fayose is governor twice. And since serving and former elected officials of the party would vote, large percentage of them voted massively for the deputy governor and this paid off.

The visibly elated Olusola could not hide his joy as this was clear in his response after his victory.

“I humbly thank all our party stalwarts who made this victory possible, particularly, Governor Ayodele Fayose. I want to thank the doggedness of my co-contestant, Prince Adeyeye. History will have it that he put in his best for a better Ekiti.

“I am determined to move Ekiti forward by sustaining those legacies that were started by our amiable governor. We are aware of the plans of the interlopers, who wanted to grab power through the backdoor. Whether they like it or not, we shall give them another 16-0 again with the support of Ekiti people,” he said.

Reacting to the victory, which he believed had again confirmed his dominance of Ekiti politics, Fayose jokingly recommended Okowa to APC for the conduct of the rescheduled primary in Ekiti, saying “APC is worse than the PDP in every aspect”. He said he would reach out to Adeyeye and Olujimi to assure them of relevance in the party. The credibility of the poll notwithstanding, the dust generated by the primary is yet to subside. For instance, Adeyeye had descended on the governor, threatening to ensure that his anointed candidate fails in the July 14 election.

To show that he meant business, he immediately resigned his membership of the PDP. He also warned Fayose and other emissary he had been sending to him to desist, saying he was determined to bring down the governor for allegedly skewing the primary in favour of his preferred candidate, using all forms of subterfuges. Adeyeye said he was moving to another party to seek the votes of Ekiti people to develop the state.

The former PDP national spokesman promised to reveal the platform he would use to contest for the governorship. He said he would consult widely with his supporters before taking any step. He alleged Fayose’s agenda was to do a third term in office by installing Olusola in a bid to perpetually corner Ekiti’s commonwealth.

According to him, he would have won the PDP governorship primary “if not for the way Fayose intimidated delegates by forcing them to wear aso ebi to the venue.”

He revealed that Fayose allegedly coerced the delegates to same on local government basis to monitor how they voted which intimidated many of them. Adeyeye said many of the delegates voted against Olusola despite being put on surveillance, which he said attested to the level.
He claimed that the governor who had boasted that he would not get up to 50 votes was shocked that he got 771 votes, which allegedly made him to embark on an investigation of those who voted against his candidate, Olusola.

He accused the governor of stealing Ekiti funds and using same to acquire property while a majority of the people wallows in poverty. The former minister claimed that Fayose has wasted N8 billion Ekiti funds on chartered flights in the last three and a half years while the flyover project was jerked up from N5 billion to N17 billion.

Now that Adeyeye has declared a no retreat, no surrender war on the governor, threatening to bring Fayose to ridicule on July 14, Fayose on his part has described the threat as mere empty boast. But as it is, only the election can confirm who has the upper hand between the two political juggernauts.

In an encounter with MC EBISCO, actress Abimbola Ayeni revealed she has no limits when it comes to playing romantic roles. Bimbo who broke into the industry through her movie Dabira also spoke on ambitions of becoming a movie director.

“I will love to be a director because I am already an actress and filmmaker. For example, you see a character receiving a phone call and the phone he uses in receiving the call is blank. It’s absurd”, she said.

Abimbola Aiyeni believes in going the extra-mile in the interpretation of a role, she sees nothing wrong in her b**bs being touched in a movie, as long as it’s make-believe.

“One does not have to be stereotyped. It is acting. It’s just to touch boobs, people are behind the cameras. If one can kiss deep in movies, I don’t see touching of b**bs as a big deal.Yes, I can allow my b**bs to be touched in a movie.”

PoliticsAPC Congress: Ngige Finally Speaks On Why He Was Attacked In Anambra by 2Ebisco(op): 8:44am On May 09, 2018
Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has broken his silence on why he was attacked during the just concluded ward congress of the All Progressives Congress in Anambra State.

Report had it that hoodlums said to have been procured by a top politician, had allegedly made to assault the minister, before he was whisked to safety by his security detail.

The minister, yesterday, said his ultimate goal was to ensure peaceful, credible, free and fair congresses in the state, so that party members would not be disenfranchised.

A statement by head of his media office, Chikwelugo Obidiwe, said the subsequent violence that marred the stakeholders’ meeting in Awka on Sunday was not only condemnable, but a weird and dangerous phenomenon, completely unknown to opposition politics in the state.

According to him, the minister had actually intervened to rescue one of the six members of the Ward Congress Committee, posted to the state by the national secretariat of the party, Musa Yunusa, who had been beaten black and blue by the thugs.

“The minister, already taken to safety by his security, broke away from protection, to intervene to rescue Yunusa, almost lifeless.

“The doctors, as we speak, battled to save his life at Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, from where he was transferred to another hospital, because of the JOHESU strike.

“The interest of the minister, we wish to state, once more, was to ensure a credible exercise as the leader of the party in Anambra State.

“He is neither contesting the ward chairmanship, local government, state nor even aspiring to be a national officer of the party.

“He does not, also, need to run for governorship in 2021 as the two of the persons fuelling and stage-managing the crisis are angling for,” he said.

PoliticsYou Have Failed, Don’t Promise What You Cannot Do – Bakare Blast Buhari, APC by 2Ebisco(op): 6:46pm On May 08, 2018
The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has once again criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Bakare said APC has failed to deliver on its change mandate.

“APC promised change, but it appears the people have been shortchanged, don’t promise what you cannot deliver.

“APC’s right leg is CPC, left leg is ACN, right hand is ANPP, left hand is a faction of PDP, and right at the head we don’t know how many chromosomes are there.

“The problem is that the Nigerian populace don’t know their right from their left,” the cleric said.

He also took a swipe at Buhari, stating that a leader must “stand shoulder high above the perversity of his generation”.

“Any leader that calls himself a person of integrity, a patriot, someone who wants society to change cannot be like others, he must stand shoulder high above the perversity of his generation,” Bakare added.

PoliticsBuhari Alone Isn’t The Problem (check The Reasons) by 2Ebisco(op): 7:40am On May 07, 2018
NATION BUILDING SERIES

‎Monday Discourse

Though there is enough proof to justify the claim that President Muhammadu Buhari has fallen short of expectations, ‎the challenge of transforming Nigeria goes beyond the president, write Tobi Soniyi, Segun James and Shola Oyeyipo

Many are disappointed today because the president, Muhammadu Buhari has not been able to transform Nigeria into a new country where everything suddenly becomes functional.
Nigerians expected so much from the president. His party, the All Progressives Congress promised so much and is delivering so little to the disappointment of many.
As 2019 general election approaches, we are beginning to make the same mistakes.
We are hoping that whoever becomes president should be able to correct all the structural imbalances afflicting the country. But the bitter truth is that this is not going to happen.
The best we can get is some opaque tinkering with the existing structures which will not fundamentally change the country.
So, we should begin to lower our expectations.
Just like the president, we all have our fair share of the problem.

Buhari Is a Problem
But the president is a problem for many reasons. No doubt, a president is in a vantage position to steer the ship of the country to eldorado. And from the look of things, this president isn’t doing that. Just like his predecessors, and Nigerian past leaders, Buhari is turning out to be a disappointment.
This much was stated by Nigerian foremost novelist, Professor Chinua Achebe when he wrote: “The trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely a failure of leadership. There is nothing basically wrong with the Nigerian character. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian land or climate or water or air or anything else. The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of its leaders to rise to the responsibility, to the challenge of personal example which are the hallmarks of true leadership.”
Many had hoped that because of his spartan lifestyle, Buhari would make all the difference. With his abysmal performance so far, Buhari obviously isn’t the messiah Nigerians have been waiting for. Some of his shortcomings include: He is insensitive to the needs and feelings of the people he governs, his poor handling of the economy (allowing the naira to depreciate to as low as N350 to a US Dollar for instane), making appointments that ignored the ethno-religious setting in the country, his aversion for due process and rule of law.
Under his watch, in the last four months of this year, over 1000 persons have been killed in various parts of the country by herdsmen and, all the president did was to lament.

Since the killings began, the presidency was not only in denial but was also defending the atrocities. Those who should help him stop the killings are themselves bereft of ideas.
Apart from the herdsmen, militias have been on a killing spree in the northern part of the country. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye who usually refrains from commenting on political issues is unable to hold himself back after news broke out that some gunmen went into a church and killed people.
He said: “It doesn’t matter the denomination…by the special grace of God, all Christians in Nigeria call me daddy. So when any of them dies, it’s my son or daughter that is dead.
“It’s a terrible thing. A nation may survive a civil war, but no nation can survive a religious war and remains the same.”
He therefore called on the president to do more to stop the killings.
The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) also called for a national day of protest to draw attention of government to the killings. Jolted by the killing of two priests and 17 worshippers of St. Ignatius Catholic church, Mbalom, Gwer East LGA of Benue State, CAN President, Rev Olasupo Ayokunle, urged Christians to hold the peaceful protests within their church premises on Sunday April 29, 2018.

He said: “CAN urges Christians in Nigeria to hold peaceful protest on the set aside date, in the premises of their churches asking the Federal Government and the security agencies to stop the unending killings and bloodshed in the country.

“Christians are to carry placards with inscriptions meant to address issues about sustained killings, attacks and destruction of their property in Nigeria.

“The inscriptions on placards could read, “Enough of bloodshed in Nigeria”, “Enough of unlawful killings in the country”, “FG, Release Leah Sharibu from the bondage”, “FG, Stop Herdsmen Killings”, “CAN rejects FG’s poor handling of insecurity”, etc.

“Government should be called upon to perform their constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens now. No excuse should be given for this wicked act again and perpetrators must be brought to book now.”

But the President Isn’t the Problem
Many wrongly assume that Nigeria will become a better place once Buhari is no more at the helms of affairs, the truth, however is that this is not going to be the case.

If we remove Buhari and elect someone else as the president, will that person be able to stop the National Assembly from continuing milking the country? Even when the country is not earning enough to take care of the citizens, the lawmakers don’t love the country enough to make concession and reduce what they take from the country.
It will take our willingness as a people to do that which is right and good for the people before the country can be on a path to development.
Leadership is important, but we are wrong to keep on focusing on the Presidency as a place where this will happen. Not necessarily. History is replete with stories of those who changed their country even when they are not occupying any leadership position.
If we remove Buhari, will that solve the problem of electing into the National Assembly people who don’t understand what they do there? This reaction of Senator Abu Ibrahim (Katsina- APC) during the debate on whether to impeach Buhari for paying $469m to the United States of America to buy fighter jets without appropriation raises the question whether the Senator should he there in the first instance.
The Senator accused senators of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of conspiring to impeach Buhari.

He justified the president’s decision to make the withdrawal on precedence.

“He took action based on national interest, that’s why he authorised this payment. As far as I’m concerned, this is the first time that money drawn from excess crude oil account is being brought to the National Assembly. Since they begin to operate this account, I have never seen any expenditure that was brought here for approval.

“$17.7 billion was drawn by (ex-President) Obasanjo to pay the Paris Club without National Assembly approval. Obasanjo left N9.3 billion in excess crude account but former President Goodluck Jonathan …the money with no recourse to the National Assembly. The account was increased to over $20 billion in 2008 and decreased to less than $4 billion by Jonathan in 2010. It never came to National Assembly for approval.

“$2 billion was used by the previous PDP administration to fight Boko Haram in 2014. Governor Godswill Akpabio was the one who moved the motion at the National Economic Council to get the money. $5 billion was taken for power generation, funding was also sourced for Niger Delta, the same process was not taken by (ex-President Yar’ adua). It was later taken to the National Assembly and it was approved.

“This is a PDP conspiracy. I will like PDP to tell us which of their governors has taken the money released from excess crude oil account to the state assembly for approval. If this is a PDP conspiracy to tarnish the image of Muhammadu Buhari, they will not be able to do it because we are coming out with figures.”
People voted Buhari because they thought he would not be a Jonathan or an Obasanjo.
Besides, this idea of defending our tribesmen even when they have done what is wrong has become a part of our politics. The Southwest did that when Olusegun Obasanjo was president. The South-south and the South-east rationalised and justified all the wrong things Goodluck Jonathan did as president. No one should be surprised, the north is defending illegality perpetuated by Buhari. Those who should defend democracy and the people are busy defending their tribesmen.
The question is, if we get a new president, will this culture of tribalism suddenly disappear? Will loyalty to ethnicity disappear if Buhari leaves will our attachment to our ethnic group which often prejudices our approach to issues disappear?

Will the new president be able to stop states’ governors from stealing funds meant for their states and local government areas? One of the recurrent frauds the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has had to deal with is the issue of governors diverting and stealing funds meant for local government areas. Not one of those governors has been convicted. This isn’t a Buhari’s creation. If we have a new president, will this stop to be the case?
The states are already terrorising local governments, they withhold their funds, meddle in their affairs and determine who become chairmen and councillors. Yet the same states want true federalism. If we change the president, will the new president be able to stop this invasion of councils by states?

Will the new president be able to make the judiciary to become fast and efficient in justice delivery?
We like to blame the president for all the woes in the country. But is it the president that is making it difficult for the judiciary to stop the practice of taking notes in long hands which results in wasting valuable time doing what technology has taken care of in other climes? Nigerian judges waste enormous time writing down everything the lawyers say. And Nigerian lawyers are very verbose. So our judges are writing themselves to death. But they don’t travel to Saudi Arabia or London on horseback. They fly. They like the fact that technology has revolutionized how we travel but they refused to embrace electronic recording of court proceedings. They keep the nation backward and allow litigants to die before the courts determine their cases. But we all blame the president!
If the president moves in to help with this, it will become interference in the affairs of the judiciary. Nothing is going to change in the judiciary regardless of who becomes the president unless those in charge become bold and introduce the necessary reforms.

We need innovators and reformers in all segments of our society but what we get are people who tinker with the structures and make incremental improvements.
If Buhari leaves, and a new president comes in, will our attitude to obedience to law change? Has anyone asked why drivers did not obey traffic laws during Jonathan and are still not obeying the law now that Buhari is there?

Has anyone asked why the Nigerian Immigration Service’s offices nationwide collected more than the required fees to issue passports during Jonathan regime and they are still doing it now that Buhari is there?

When Jonathan was there, we paid for drivers’ licenses but we did not get the licenses Today, we still suffer the same problem.
The reality is that it will take more than a president to change this country. When will the people be able to have the courage to insist on what is right from those who hold power in trust for them?

If Buhari leaves will our politicians suddenly become democrats? Or will it suddenly inculcate in all of us democratic values?

While it should be conceded that there is no basis for comparing Nigeria with advanced democracies, there is nothing wrong with adopting that which is good from these countries. When you are given a job to do and it turns out that you can not do the job, you should honourably resign. Everyday, people are killed in outrageous circumstances, yet, the minister for defence is holding on to his appointment. The Inspector General of Police is safe in his job. If Buhari leaves or a new government takes over, will this stop to be the practice?
There are democratic values that are not written in any law which are observed in the interest of the people and the country.

Nigeria is racing towards another general elections, the likelihood is that the result will not produce any significant difference unless the electorate begin to act differently.
In this regard, the advice of a former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku is very timely and relevant. Speaking on the theme ‘Leadership and the Future of Nigeria’ at a symposium to mark the ten years anniversary of the death of Senator Abraham Adesanya, Anyaoku said: “Now that national elections are approaching in 2019, I would like to end by urging all intending voters to regard a firm unambiguous and time-specific commitment to the restructuring of Nigeria’s present governance architecture, as the pre-requisite for voting for any political party and its candidates.”

The electorate should stop basing their decision on primordial sentiments. They should stop mortgaging their future for peanuts. They should dig into the past of those aspiring to rule them and ensure that only people that demonstrate exceptionally leadership qualities are elected into public offices.
Again, we refer to the attributes of a good leader as identified by elder statesman, Anyaoku. He said: “A leader must, in my view, possess to a good degree inter alia the following attributes: the capacity to inspire and form affinity with the people that the leader is leading; the capacity to have and articulate a vision of where he/she plans to take the country concerned; the capacity to deliver electoral promises; and the capacity to identify with and be seen to be tackling the challenges facing the people he/she is leading. Hence, leadership is primarily about service, and servant leadership enables the building of trust with bonding and continuing inspiration of the people. A good leadership must be defined by discipline, resilience, perseverance, determination, unyielding devotion, and, above all, a strong political will to act without deference to sectionalism.

“It is not always easy to find a convergence of all these attributes in a single individual.”
He mentioned three examples of leaders whose performance in their countries had demonstrable achievements, especially in putting their countries on the global map and in some cases, lifting them from the nadir of developmental challenges
“A common feature of their successful leadership is their capacity, during electoral campaigns and on assumption of office, to spell out in clear and unambiguous terms the goals and guiding principles that would define their tenure in office”, he added.
Nigerians will have to begin to do things differently to expect a different result. Everyone has got a role to play. Nation building is not for those elected into offices alone, the citizens should not accept the status quo as it. They have to continue to strive for a better country.

CelebritiesChioma Akpotha Reveals How Her Secondary School Life Affected Her Relationship W by 2Ebisco(op): 6:39pm On May 06, 2018
Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha, has revealed that attending a girls’ only secondary school affected her relationship with men.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the actress admitted that a lot of people think she had an attitude problem. She said,

“I am aware that people think I am a snob, but I am actually a shy person. My job demands that I should abandon who I am. It used to be even worse for me because I went to a single-sex school; so, relating to guys was difficult for me. However, I am adjusting now because of acting.”

According to Akpotha, she tries as much as possible to protect herself and that gives people the impression that she is a snob. “When you meet me newly, the first impression you get is that I am cold. But I am only trying to protect myself from people I don’t know.

“If I am in a room and I know everyone there, I will be very comfortable and playful. But if I don’t know anyone, I will be cold. I am not trying to blow my trumpet; I am just saying that I need to know you to be comfortable with you,” she said.

Despite starting acting at the age of 17, she claimed that she did not indulge in drinking or smoking like some of her peers. She stated, “The way my mother raised us, especially as her first daughter, there was no way I would have lived a wayward life.

My late mother would have been a solider if she didn’t have a job. In Igboland, they pay so much attention to the first daughter because she must be an example to the younger ones. Also, I am allergic to smoke and many other things.

I act stupidly whenever I am high, which is not good for someone like me in public because I like to conduct myself well. I had friends who questioned why I did not smoke or drink but if you know who you are, you wouldn’t succumb to peer pressure. However, I am not saying the fact that I don’t smoke or drink makes me an extraordinary being.”

PoliticsMelaye’s Aide Reveals Senator’s Location, Next Line Of Action by 2Ebisco(op): 8:23am On May 04, 2018
The media aide to embattled senator Dino Melaye,Gideon Ayodele has said that his principal is currently at the Police Medical Centre in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, hours after a magistrate remanded the senator in police custody.

Gideon also disclosed that the senator’s lawyers would file fundamental rights enforcement at the Federal High Court, Lokoja, on Friday morning.

He said the lawyers believe the decision to remand Mr Melaye in police custody was flawed.

He noted that the team would spare no effort in ensuring that Melaye does not spend six weeks in custody as ruled by Mr Abdullah.

“It is important that we approach the Federal High Court tomorrow morning,” Ayodele added.

The police arraigned Mr Melaye before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lokoja on Thursday on seven counts of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

Sulyman Abdullah, a senior magistrate in his ruling said Melaye should be remanded in police custody till June 11 but the Inspector-General of Police must provide essentials for his health.

According to his lawyer, Mike Ezekhome, the police had insisted that Melaye be remanded in prision despite concerns from other lawmakers at the National Assembly.

At Thursday’s plenary in the House of Representatives, Speaker Yakubu Dogara warned the police to be professional with Melaye’s case, saying his health should be prioritised.

“I have not seen in any country where someone is arraigned in court on stretchers when he or she is not fit to plead guilty or not guilty,” Mr Dogara said. “If anything happens to him, (Dino) the responsibility will be on the security agency,” Dogara had said.

PoliticsI Relied On Pa Adesanya, Others’ Advice During Transition To Civilian Rule In 19 by 2Ebisco(op): 11:57pm On May 02, 2018
Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Head of State, said on Wednesday that the late Pa Abraham Adesanya was one of those on whom he relied on in piloting the transition to democracy in 1999.

Abubakar stated this in Lagos at the 10th Memorial Symposium of the late NADECO Chieftain, Chief Abraham Adesanya, where he was chairman.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that fate smiled on Abubakar in June 1998 when he had to take over the mantle of leadership in Nigeria following the sudden death of Gen. Sani Abacha.

He was military Head of State from June 9, 1998 until May 29, 1999, and oversaw the transition programme which saw the military return to the barracks, 16 years after it earlier truncated civilian rule in 1983.

Abubakar transferred power to president-elect, Olusegun Obasanjo on May 29, 1999, returning the country to civil rule.

The late Adesanya, on his part, was a leader of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), which was a thorn in the flesh of the military, constantly demanding a return to democracy.

Abubakar said at Adesanya’s memorial symposium that he had a good relationship with the late politician until his death.

“I had a good relationship with him when destiny brought me to be the Head of state of the country.

“I commend organisations that fought to bring democracy to Nigeria, and NADECO was the leading organisation.

“I relied on his advice and others to pilot the transition to democracy in Nigeria,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku described late Adesanya as a symbol of authentic combination of loyalty to one’s ethnic group and country.

He said he promoted and protected the interest of the Yorubas, democracy and the interest of Nigeria as a whole.

“He was devoted to the fight for democracy in Nigeria and he incurred the wrath of Abacha with an attempted assassination on his life in 1996.

“He was a political activist, a patriot and the defender of the truth and public interest,” he said.

A panelist, Chief John Nwodo, President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo, said leadership failure contributed to the current challenges experienced in the country.

Nwodo said Nigeria required non-tribal, patriotic and fearless leaders like late Adesanya to progress.

“Pa Adesanya saw himself as a Yoruba and a true Nigerian. He recognised the problems in the country and spoke to the problems without being tribalistic. We need such leaders today.

“I urge Nigerians to vote wisely in 2019. Do not vote anybody who does not recognise that we need a restructured nation to get out of our challenges,” Nwodo said.

In her address, Mrs Dupe Adelaja, daughter of Late Adesanya, said the symposium was to draw on the memory of her father and remind Nigerians of his legacies.

Adelaja said her father and others like him struggled for democracy in Nigeria at a time when the prospect seemed bleak.

She urged politicians to emulate the ideals and legacies of her father to help resolve the challenges of the country.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion include a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, Deputy Governor of Ogun State; Mr Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State; and Mr Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State.

Others include, APC chieftain, Chief Bisi Akande; KOWA Party chieftain, Prof. Remi Sonaiya, PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George, and former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Sen. Iyiola Omisore among others were also present.

PoliticsHerdsmen Attacks: Jos Christians In Massive Protest by 2Ebisco(op): 9:03am On Apr 30, 2018
Sequel to the directive from the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, that churches nationwide should embark on a protest over the spate of killings by suspected herdsmen, members of the ECWA Goodnews Church in Jos, on Sunday, took to the streets.

Members of the Church carried out the protest after the Sunday worship service over the incessant killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the country and the continuous captivity of Leah Sharibu.

The over two thousand members of the congregation sang songs of Praise, while chanting ‘enough is enough’, as they join other Christian faithful across Nigeria to observe the National Day of Protest.

Rev. Joshua Tuwan of ECWA Goodnews, while addressing the members of his church said the present government had demonstrated clueless approach in stopping the killings by herdsman.

Tuwan said, “If one of the most important thing a government should do is the protection of lives and property, yet after three good years of this administration this country is still being held to ransom by a few individuals, then something is wrong.”

The Clergyman said it was unfortunate a certain group of people had decided to invade the middle belt, eliminate and kill natives on the basis of their ethnicity and faith.

“We have discovered that this problem is taking a dimension to eliminate certain group of people and these people are identified collectively by what they believe in.

“We stand to oppose and to tell the world that this government must rise up to its responsibilities and ensure that the culprits are arrested.

“We want them to be prosecuted, if this government means serious business, or else 2019 is coming. Nigerians should show them the way out.,” he said.

Tuwan expressed dismay on the continuous captivity of Leah Sharibu the only girl still held by the terrorist group who abducted the Dapchi School girls.

“We want Leah to be out, we want the Chibok girls. We do not understand what is going on in the heart of their parents. These girls were abducted because of their faith . If this government is not religious, let them produce these girls.

“We will continue to shout, let the security begin to come and start picking us up. Let’s see, if there are no citizen if there will be government,” he further stated.

PoliticsResign Now, Catholic Priests Tell Buhari by 2Ebisco(op): 5:35am On Apr 29, 2018
Call For Review Of Nation’s Security

The group, Catholic Priests of West Africa (CPWA), has added its voice to calls for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over killings across parts of the country. The group also called for the restructuring of Nigeria’s security system, even as it condemned the killing of two priests in Makurdi, Benue State.

The group wondered when “this high level of barbarism and wanton killings would end,” stressing the need for tougher sanctions for the culprits.CPWA President, Rev Fr Martin Onukwuba, who made the call in Awka yesterday, said: “Citizens of Nigeria were known to love each other and had co-existed side by side all along, until recently.”

He regretted that the increasing attacks by herdsmen have not received commensurate reprimand or official condemnation from Buhari. He said: “We are sad. We are angry. We feel totally exposed and most vulnerable. Faced with these dark clouds of fear and anxiety, our people are daily being told by some to defend themselves. Since the Nigerian President, who appointed the heads of the nation’s security agencies, has refused to caution them, even in the face of the chaos and barbarity into which the country has been plunged, we are left with no choice but to conclude that they are acting a script that he approves. If the President cannot keep Nigeria safe, then he automatically loses the trust of the citizens and all.

“He should, therefore, no longer continue to preside over the killing fields and mass graveyard that the nation has become. Virtually all our meetings would not be complete without sordid details of mass killings and atrocities of fanatics and zealots unleashed in almost all parts of Nigeria daily.”

Onukwuba urged Nigerians of voting age to use their ballots more wisely in the coming general election and vote out the current government. He also endorsed the call by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for peaceful protests and special prayers for the removal of persons working against the peace and progress of the country.

My dearest friends and followers, I greet you this blessed Friday. Most of you may have heard about my sad story of accident that caused the life of a beautiful and amazing human, Dr. Suraj Giwa. For 12 years, I have remained silent; internally mourning, grieving and praying that time would heal his family and mine. Through those years of my silence, stories were manufactured in the mainstream and social media about the accident. There were so many stories. My character was assassinated. I did not tell my story. Nobody heard from me, until now. Please take few moments to read the next posts as I share my story of what really happened and seek forgiveness, peace for both families. I finally got the courage to tell my story to Azuka Jebose. It was a burden lifted off my soul. As you read, please continue to pray for the soul of Late Giwa, his family and my family. Thank you for your supports and prayers. God bless you. May the soul of Dr. Suraj Giwa continue to be at peace. Amen

MY STORY

DEAR NIGERIA, I AM SORRY.” “ Dear Azuka,
I greet you. Thank you for allowing me to respond to your recent post here about my political ambition and the fatal accident of 2006. I need to tell my story. I stayed silent for so long and watched as my life, character and person were being ruined in published reports, including social media. This is my story, told for the first time on social media platform.

My heart has never stopped aching. It will not. An accident took the life of someone. I am forever in mourning because of this. Two families’ lives have been changed forever with this unfortunate fatal accident. It was an accident. Dr. Suraj Giwa didn’t have to die. I wished I could bring him back. I am sorry for the pains caused. I have also been maligned and disparaged in the media: I am a monster. I am a killer and a murderer, I am a drunk… No. Azuka. I am none of these.
I am just another human being that was in a deadly accident and the accident caused the death of Dr. Suraj Giwa.

It’s been 12 years of heartache, pain and depression for me. My eyes are rivers of tears.
Some days I feel like killing myself. Life has no meaning to me.
I think about Dr. Giwa every day. I pray for his soul and I pray and seek forgiveness from his family for the pain and agony. I am very sorry.
It didn’t have to happen. I wished I knew it would happen that unfortunate day, I would not have travelled that road. I was not drunk that day.

Azuka, I was driving along Lekki road, returning home after picking up a friend’s daughter from a church Fellowship. Suddenly, a red car overtook the SUV in front of me. The SUV was travelling slowly, so I shifted to its front, too. The red vehicle was being driven by a young man and had his friends with him…I drove past the red car. I think that might have angered the young chap because he swiftly sped from behind, drove past me and made a sudden stop in my front.

I tried to avoid hitting those boys in the red car. I swerved and lost control in that moment, the impact dived my vehicle into inbound lane.. Dr. Giwa was inbound, thus he drove into my car and both cars collided. I collapsed and passed out.. Three days later, I WOKE UP IN A HOSPITAL bed to learn what had happened. I was weak, sore and in pains. I could not move my legs. I had been sedated for three days. Doctors said they had to sedate me to numb my pain. Meanwhile, the police had been informed that I was in that hospital. The Lagos State Police came to the hospital to take my statement of what happened. After I gave them my statement, I was arrested at the hospital and charged to court.

At my court appearance for hearing, the judge noticed how sick, weak, incoherent an disoriented I was: he also saw my injuries. He ordered that I should be sent back to the hospital for further treatment until I was well enough to stand trial. I could not walk then.

Later at the hospital, I woke up from coma and to reality. I was afraid and shocked. I could not believe I was involved in an accident that had taken a life. I was like: Wow!..Someone died in that accident. Oh my God!. I didn’t know the family. While I was in the hospital my family contacted the family of Late dr. Giwa who died in the accident. My family was there for the funeral and did everything during the mourning season. I was afraid. But I met them in court and tried to approach them. I understood the anger and pain I had caused them, so I accepted their anger toward me….his sister was really angry at me… I wanted to talk to her… it was hard for me to get close to her… I understood all these: the pain and distress they felt as a result of the accident. I felt their pain. I wanted to tell them how sorry and remorseful I was… It was an accident. I did not intend to wake up that morning, went out and had a fatal collision.
Weeks later, I was arraigned. I attended all my court appearances. During the process I visited the family and attempted several times to make peace. I never ignored them. I am always sorry. I know the pain is tough, so I understood their anger but I kept begging. I am sorry.

I did noent out and had a fatal collision.
Weeks later, I was arraigned. I attended all my court appearances. During the process I visited the family and attempted several times to make peace. I never ignored them. I am always sorry. I know the pain is tough, so I understood their anger but I kept begging. I am sorry. I had gone to so many good people and friends to assist me in pleading for forgiveness from the family. One of such friends is late Iyalode of Lagos. She assisted me in begging the Giwa family: when I became well and able to walk, she took me to The former Imam of Lagos and the Present Oba of Lagos: these traditional and religious leaders begged on my behalf, pleading with the family for forgiveness and showed how sorry and remorseful I was that the accident happened. I never ran away from the scene of the accident.
I was unconscious.
How could an unconscious accident victim remove plate license and registration papers from the vehicle as reported in the media? Why would I do a thing like that? How could I have done a thing like that?

I became a monster in the eyes of everyone. So I thought suicide was the best option to end all these and find peace for my family and Dr. Giwa’s family. I lost myself.
I was no longer Ibinabo.
I didn’t know who I was.
I became a stranger to myself and my family, afraid of life and living, scarred by and scared of human beings.
I withdrew and became clinically depressed.

I could not take care of my children. I was dying.
Azuka, I was dying. Life had no meaning to me. I became a lonely zombie: a mother that could not care for her children, distressed, disturbed and severely depressed.

I was sent to Kirikiri female Prison. I wanted to die there. I accepted to end it.
But one preacher came to the prison and preached to us. It was like he was talking to me. During his sermon, I fainted… I was revived by prisoners that attended the service. When I woke up, I was soaked in water and the prisoners gathered around me… I asked what happened and they told me I had Passed out during the service.. That opened my eyes. I asked myself then: Ibinabo, do you really want to die?. I said no. I must turn my life to purpose driven, to rescue the weak and helped those that society had turned against.. I held onto God. I told Him it was up to Him. I didn’t want to see any lawyer again, I had no money. My family bailed me out after three months and three days…. I came out to pursue the appeal…
I was living my simple life…I engaged in works with youths in my village. I enjoy spending time in my town. They know me there. They love me there… I was on my way to a funeral when my lawyer called me.. Earlier the previous day, I called to inform him I would be out of town and hoped the appeal date would not be soped the appeal date would not be scheduled while I was out of town.
He said no. I told him I didn’t want the court to think I jumped bail… He called me on my way to the funeral, the next day and said the court date was actually that morning. I had to hurry back to court.
I lost the appeal. I was shocked.

My lawyer did not understand what was going on. That day, I was taken back to Kirikiri maximum security prison… that was 2016…

While at Kirikiri, I discovered I had a lump in my breast. I had to do surgery… when I was released, I went to the village so that I would not breakdown and collapse into depression again…
Yes I want to serve my people.. I want to be positive and impact people’s lives. And yes, Azuka, I remember that this sad situation is still here…
I do not know who else to talk to…

I do not know what else to do. I need help…
The family sued me for N200Million in a civil case…
Where will I get that money from?. So we have been negotiating to see where we can get to, so I can begin making payment by installment.

We have agreed to settle out of court… we are not there yet. It’s a process… Though I have appealed this case to the Supreme Court, what is important to me now is making peace with the family: that is more important because it will heal me… his family and I would have peace.

Azuka I am not a bad person. I do not know what else to do. People think I am a murderer. I am not. I am not. Azuka, free me….Free me… It was an unfortunate accident. I didn’t do it intentionally. That’s all I have been begging…
I have begged…I do not know what to do…I am truly sorry it happened…

I am not running for any political office. My people wanted me. A group of youths from my place asked me to run for office, I said no. They went and printed poster and placed it on social media. So I endorsed it.

Eventually, I must live. I have to do things to my fulfillment, to what God wants me to do; to be able to help youths help people generally… Life in Okrika is not easy… I need to help the youths believe in themselves… they are aching.. In my region, simple things of life are a struggle to get. I need to change their mindset that there is alternative way to Life… I have become a seeker of peace for my people… Life hasn’t been a bed of roses… But I must deal with this issue. I seek forgiveness from the family and peace of mind. I need to find closure and peace.… I am not a killer… I care too much… I am a caring person. I put myself in the shoes of Giwa’s family and I can understand their pains. I am very sorry for the loss of life of Dr. Giwa. I am. I am not arrogant.

I never, ever said to his family that I would not offer public apology.
I was offered to do a public service announcement across country with regards to Driving While Impaired. I said if I did that, it then meant I accepted I was drunk when I drove my car. I wasn’t drunk. I would do anything but that. I wasn’t drunk… they assumed because I owned a night club in the past, so I must be an alcoholic.

This is exactly the truth. It’s not fair to admit that I was drunk.
The police did not arrest me for drunk driving.. The court never charged me with drunk driving.. There were reckless and dangerous driving charges.
Those were what I was charged by the court…. I was not charged with manslaughter.
Not murder…

My pains through the years include: Bouts of depression Attempted suicide I Had surgeries in my breast to remove lumps. I cannot do a lot. This unfortunate experience has affected my job prospects. I am unemployable I have stopped acting for a while. I just do charity works.. I am not flamboyant.. Dear Nigeria, I am sorry. I will forever regret what happened.
Giwa was a father, husband and son. He was the sole and soul provider of his family. I feel terrible he died during an accident which I was involved. I feel really bad. I am sorry. I need prayers. Please pray for me and the soul of Giwa and his family.

I know I have found God through this experience. But I still need help. I am receiving therapy for my depression and suicidal thoughts… I am able to share these with you.. I am healing… one moment at a time..I am not a killer. I am not a murderer. I am not an alcoholic. I did not drive while intoxicated. I was involved in an accident that resulted in death and for that I am very sorry. I have had periods of feeling miserable in the last 12years as a result of this accident. I need to find peace. I seek forgiveness. I am sorry… Thank you” ** As told to Azuka Jebose

PoliticsIgbos Should Pray Hard, Only God Can Give Igbo President – Ohanaeze by 2Ebisco(op): 10:08pm On Apr 27, 2018
Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Charles Odunukwe, has said Igbo people should pray hard and hope in God to be president of the country.

He said no human being can do anything for Igbo to get the position without God’s intervention.

But, Deputy Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, Ugonna Ozuruigbo, said Igbo man will be president of the country in 2023, after President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office.

The duo spoke at a seminar in Onitsha, Anambra State, organised by Human Rights Defenders of Nigeria (HRDN) in collaboration with Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Onitsha branch, yesterday.

Odunukwe said: “There is hope for Igbo man to become the president of Nigeria, but, I want the Igbo people to continue praying to God that one day, God will answer our prayers.”

He said the leadership of the Igbo apex organisation under Chief Nnia Nwodo is intact and described the news about his removal as president as fictitious and fallacy.

“Most of the news on the social media about our organisation and leadership removal are fictitious news.

“There is nothing like removing the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“You may ask yourself who removed the president? With me, here, is the current president of the youth and his executive members; and, if you see them with me, who will remove the president?

“I want you to discard that from your mind, there is nothing like that.

“Our President General, Chief Nwodo, still remains the president. He was elected on January 11, 2017, with myself and the vice, and we have a four-year tenure; we have only served a year plus, so, on what ground or reason are you removing anybody. The president and the National Executive Council (NEC) are doing a fantastic job and you can attest to that.” Odunukwe said.

Regardless, Ozuruigbo said: “The shortest court for Igbo man to become the president is giving a Northerner another opportunity for second term, so that when the presidency comes back to the South, it would be the turn of South East, because South West and South South have taken their turn, so, naturally, it will be South ‘s turn to produce the president.

‘This is why we are clamouring for President Buhari to continue, and after the next four years, Igbo man will take over the leadership from Buhari.”

On the issue of who takes over from Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, he said: “I’m part of the 20 Assembly members who endorsed Uche Nwosu to be the next governor of the state, not that the party has endorsed anybody, but, everybody has a particular candidate he supports for the governorship seat.

“We are free to support anybody who is qualified to run, and if, at the end of the day, the party says otherwise, it is binding on me to support whoever the party has chosen.”

He said he sponsored a bill that is today a law in Imo State on the prohibition and abolishment of monetary transaction of baby factories in the state among other bills that have improved the lives of the citizens of the state.

PoliticsBREAKING: Buhari Departs Nigeria For US, Gives Reasons by 2Ebisco(op): 6:37pm On Apr 27, 2018
The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria on Saturday for the United States of America.

MC EBISCO had earlier reported that President Donald Trump will host his Nigerian counterpart, Buhari in Washington on April 30 and that the meeting will focus on “fighting terrorism” and “promoting economic growth.”

In a statement signed and forwarded to MC EBISCO on Friday, by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the presidency said Buhari, “will leave Abuja on 28th April 2018, on an official working visit to the United States of America, on the invitation of President Donald Trump.

“President Buhari will have bilateral meeting with President Trump and a working lunch on Monday 30th April 2018.

“The meeting is to discuss ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries and to advance shared priorities, such as: promoting economic growth, fighting terrorism and other threats to peace and security.

“The meeting will further deepen the US-Nigeria relationship as the United States considers Nigeria’s economic growth, security and leadership in Africa to be critical aspects of their strategic partnership.

“Later in the day, President Buhari will meet with a group of business persons in agriculture and agro-processing, dairy and animal husbandry.

“Ahead of the visit by President Buhari, meetings have been scheduled on 26th and 27th April, 2018, between senior Nigerian Government officials and executives of major US companies in the areas of agriculture, aviation and transportation.

“In the area of aviation, the Nigerian officials will be meeting with Boeing, the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, on the National Carrier Project.

“On agriculture, they will meet with large equipment manufacturers with focus on harvesting and post harvesting equipment.

“In the area of transportation, the officials will meet with the GE-led consortium for the implementation of the interim phase of the narrow gauge rail concession.

“In the interim phase, a substantive concession agreement will be negotiated and finalized to provide the consortium the opportunity to invest an estimated $2bn, to modernize the rail line from Lagos to Kano (Western Line) and from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri (Eastern Line). During the meeting, the concession framework and the interim phase framework agreements are expected to be signed.

“The Nigerian officials will also meet with US-EXIM Bank and the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation to explore competitive financing arrangements.

“It is noteworthy that in 2017, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the United States Department of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote and encourage commercial and investment ties between Nigeria and the United States, with initial focus on infrastructure, agriculture, digital economy, investment and regulatory reforms.”
